The Coroner: Gilt (2015)
Season 1, Episode 5
7/10
Coinage
23 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Simon Armstrong plays Errol Prowse, who passed away at the age of 68 due to unlawful killing per the Coroner's verdict. I became a big fan of The Coroner soon after it debuted back in 2015, so nearly a decade ago init, and certainly season two found its feet and became compelling. Anyway, Gilt is from season one, and certainly season one is also worth watching. Sure, there are no big name guest stars (although I think having Danny Dyer would have given the series some heft) it's the undercurrent of the possible romance between Coroner Kennedy and DS Higgins that is a highlight, along with solving the crimes.

23 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Anyway, I became a fan of The Coroner soon after it was released in 2015, so that's almost a decade ago init, and the first season was finding its feet, and the second season hit its stride, but sadly and surprisingly and shockingly the BBC decided not to renew The Coroner for season three, and to this day we're not sure really why apart from the standard stock reasons. Anyway a Scotland Yard inspector, Ben Marshall comes on to the local scenery and whilst it's not Straw Dogs, there is a culture clash and all between the big London cop and the local constabulary and the coroner who know what's best init.

Mayoral misdeeds
23 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I discovered The Coroner soon after it was released in 2015, so almost a decade ago, and whilst the first season was a bit uneven, the second series really hit its stride, and there was much outrage in social media amongst the fans after the series was axed after just two seasons. To this day, the BBC has only provided a mealy mouthed explanation of the axing. Anyway, I've seen all the episodes, and That's the Way to Do It deals with mayoral misdeeds by Una Drake (played by Tilly Blackwood) who was having a ball with Danny Ball (Leon Ockenden). Anyway, this early episode of The Coroner was still finding its feet.

Booker: Someone Stole Lucille (1989)
Season 1, Episode 9
7/10
B.B. King
23 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I was a fan of Booker when it debuted 35 years ago believe it or not, as I was also a fan of 21 Jump Street with Dustin Nguyen and Johnny Depp. Anyway, I remember this Booker episode, Someone Stole Lucille, where Booker (Richard Greico) was desperately searching for B. B. King's famous guitar, Lucille, whilst looking after Max (Gedde Watanabe). Tawny Kitaen guest stars as Skylar Samperton. Someone Stole Lucille also features Thomas Haden Church, before his career exploded in Ned and Stacey. Anyway, when I saw this episode I was really hoping B. B. King would make a cameo appearance, but not to be.

Time after time
23 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I'm really enjoying wading in 1980s nostalgia by watching Pac-Man, and the cartoons are quite entertaining, even by today's standards. So in this episode, Sir Chomp-A-Lot, Mezmaron plays around with a time machine to send his ghost monsters 50 years back in time, and it's a lot of fun seeing Pac-Man resembles one of the Old Arthurian knights like in Excalibur. Anyway, it's hard to believe this series debuted over 40 years ago and it's gained a new audience on the internet from one generation to the next. Anyway, Pac-Man is lots of fun, and you knew Pac-Man and his team would always win init right.

With Russi Taylor
23 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The Pac-Love Boat features Russi Taylor and I'm a big fan of The Simpsons (well the first ten seasons pretty much), and it was a joy to discover Russi Taylor voiced Pac-Baby, as she later went on to voice Martin Prince, Sherri and Terri in The Simpsons. Anyway, this episode is set in on a cruise ship, and Pac-Man and his wife Pepper are celebrating, but it turns out Pac-Baby and their dog and cat manage to get on board through effective scriptwriting.

Lots of fun in this episode, and kind of a homage to The Love Boat but of course more for children who love Pac-Man. I'm enjoying this trip to the 80s.

Warning: Spoilers
I'm a big fan of The Simpsons (well the first ten seasons pretty much), and it was a joy to discover Russi Taylor voiced Pac-Baby, as she later went on to voice Martin Prince, Sherri and Terri in The Simpsons. Anyway, this episode is set in a circus and you have Pac-Baby and Dinky developing a friendship on their respective birthdays, which happens to be on the same day.

Anyway, I'm only now discovered the Pac-Man TV series, and thankfully the episodes are on the internet so I can wallow in 1980s nostalgia and how Pac-Man ruled the world, standing up for justice, and chomping and chomping away.

Pac-Mommy
22 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I'm really enjoying wading in 1980s nostalgia by watching Pac-Man, and the cartoons are quite entertaining, even by today's standards. SO in this episode, The Pac-Mummy, Mezmaron discovers a mummy and uses it to kidnap Pepper and Pac-Baby. When I watched it, it brought back memories of Pac-Man and I even started playing the game (not successfully!) on the internet.

Anyway, it's hard to believe this series debuted over 40 years ago, wow, four decades ago, and it's found new life by being available on the internet. Anyway, all that chomping is so addictive and lots of fun for gamers init right.

Murder on the Plymouth Express
22 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Unlike Murder on the Orient Express, there's isn't a squad of hit-people to perpetrate the deed on the Plymouth train because of some past historical misdeed in black and white footage and screaming newspaper headlines, although it's quite a revelation at the end as is always the case with Poirot. Anyway, I'm enjoying watching the early episodes of Poirot, and The Plymouth Express, whilst not as tense as Murder on the Orient Express, is worth watching for the English countryside and the Australian accents which kind of sound like the Australian accents in the famous Simpsons episode that was set in Australia.

Plane cake
22 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Anthony Shriver, from the famous Shriver-Kennedy dynasty and founder of Best Buddies, and the challenge that Buddy and his team have is getting the huge trophy cake on a sea plane. There were some shaky moments on the flight, and I was hoping they and their amazing cake were going to arrive safely. Anyway, Buddy and his sons spend some time at the gathering and Shriver introduces him to the crowd.

Carl Lewis makes a guest appearance at the Best Buddies gathering as he's supported them for a long time. Anyway, really how could you not be inspired by this episode, especially with the huge trophy cake for everyone.

The Critic wraps up
22 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Anyway, after becoming a fan of The Critic back in the 1990s, I'm finally bingeing on the webisodes and enjoying seeing Jay Sherman again, managing his internet fame, but unfortunately missing the regular cast of characters from seasons one and two.

Anyway, this is the finale of season three, and the finale of The Critic altogether. It's a shame The Critic didn't continue, and the way it was treated by the networks back in the 1990s was disgraceful. Really, The Critic was a funny show that poked fun at targets that needed poking fun at.

Anyway, do yourself a favor and watch The Critic init right.

Seinfeld and Jon Lovitz
22 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This episode has Jay and Jennifer seeing some broadway shows, and the Copenhagen one was hilarious. Also Jon Lovitz himself appeared, and also there was a parody of Death of a Salesman as performed by the Seinfeld characters: Jerry, George, Kramer, but no Elaine. The voice impersonations were so true to life. Anyway, Lovitz himself was a guest star in a Seinfeld episode.

Family ties with a long bow
22 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Normally I'm willing to give Law and Order some latitude, and the first 20 or so minutes kept us on the edge of our seat as to whether political forces were at play, but then the writers appeared to draw on contemporary events like a kitchen sink being thrown in and chained to the script.

Anyway, Sabrina Schlegel-Mejia does a decent job as Darina Meleshko, and hopefully Schlegel-Mejia can get more roles. Who knows, maybe she will pop up in a later season as one of the detectives or an assistant district attorney, as it's not uncommon for actors to have played a minor role before stepping up to play a major role, e.g. Harry Morgan in M*A*S*H.

The Good Karma Hospital: Episode #2.6 (2018)

Wrapping up season two
21 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I only wish that The Good Karma Hospital had more episodes per season. It was such a top quality series, and I can't believe there were only six episodes per season. It deserved more.

I became a big fan of Good Karma Hospital when it debuted in 2017. In some ways, when I saw Good Karma Hospital, it reminded me of the work of the American Dr Ida Scudder, a Christian doctor from America who set up the Vellore Christian Medical Centre in India, and which continues to this day really to much acclaim.

Phyllis Logan makes a cameo appearance as Maggie Smart in a very poignant moment for her widower Paul (Philip Jackson).

Guest starring Ankur Vikal
21 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This penultimate episode of season two is very, very dramatic, with the collapse of a building. All credit to the production crew, set designers, the extras for their hard work in bringing authenticity to this, filmed in Sri Lanka.

Ankur Vikal has a starring and pivotal role as Mohanan Kalita. It's good to see Indian and Sri Lankan actors playing more prominent roles as the series progresses.

Anyway, I find it strange that there aren't many other imdb user reviews for The Good Karma Hospital's episodes, because it's such a fine series. Anyway, it's a shame it got axed after four glorious seasons.

Paul's search
21 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I really became a big fan of The Good Karma Hospital when it debuted seven years ago. It was comfort TV and the sun was often out in the episodes! It was a fresh series starring Amanda Redman (famous for her leading role in the British police drama New Tricks) as the very tough-as-nails with the heart of gold Dr. Lydia Fonseca. Dr Fonseca runs the Good Karma Hospital in India. The series was filmed not in India, but Sri Lanka's Galle district, and I can somewhat imagine the logistics involved in the production in Sri Lanka. In fact, all credit to the unit directors and casting team for their work with the extras who are so seamlessly professional in their roles and give the series energy.

Here Paul (Philip Jackson) is understandably distraught and recovering from the loss of his wife at the end of season one.

Jennifer and Jay
21 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
In Harry Potter, Planet of the Apes, the relationship between Jennifer (voiced by Valerie Levitt) gets deeper, and Jay wonders if he's in over his head when Jennifer reveals that she has children. We're not sure if they're adopted or biological or what, and Jay has a poll at the end, which pretty much was a trendsetter for times to come when internet polls are everywhere.

Anyway, after becoming a fan of The Critic ages ago, I'm finally bingeing on the webisodes and enjoying seeing Jay Sherman again, managing his internet fame, but unfortunately missing the regular cast of characters from seasons one and two.

Jay and Jennifer's choices
21 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Anyway, this episode is one I haven't seen before, as I'm now only bingeing on The Critic webisodes after watching seasons one and two of The Critic ages ago. Anyway, here Jay looks back on films of 2000, and predictably his tongue twisted when he tried to pronounce the surname of director M. Night Shyamalan.

Only now have I finally been able to catch up on the webisodes that were released in 2000, and in many ways this episode was very prescient because back then in 2000 there was no huge website for video uploads for the masses, and nowadays fading stars become famous again through the internet init right.

Warning: Spoilers
Joining Jay in the webisode revival of The Critic is Jennifer, the make-up artist on Sherman's revived movie critic show. Jennifer is voiced by Valerie Levitt. In this episode, Jennifer's line about all three women on the internet pretty much spoke for the times, as this episode debuted in 2001.

Anyway, this episode was set at Jay or Jennifer's apartment, and really I miss the movie reviews by Jay.

Warning: Spoilers
I remember watching the 1980s reboot of Alfred Hitchcock presents ages ago. I saw Road Hog ages ago, probably in the 1990s, on late night TV, and it was a case of being hoisted by your own petard.

Mario DiLeo directed Road Hog, and it starred Burt Young, famous for his role in Rocky. Ronny Cox, famous for his role in Deliverance back in the 1970s, also guest stars.

Anyway, it's hard to believe Road Hog debuted nearly 40 years ago. I think some of the episodes from this series is on the internet, so definitely it's worth catching up. Maybe this series can be rebooted be hosted by acclaimed British actor Danny Dyer.
