Star Wars Resistance (2018)
Disney trolls DESPERATE to improve ratings!
When you have THOUSANDS of bot "reviews" defending this, you KNOW that this is terrrible. I mean come on, this is shown when kids are in bed, so HOW are the kids watching this? The GENUINE trolls are the one giving this utter garbage anything other than the bare minimum!
And it wouldn't surprise me if these "genuine" reviews aren;t disney staff themselves!
Come on! It is PROVEN BEYOND DOUBT if the blank bot accounts were removed, it would be getting just 10%.
FACE FACTS, under Kennedy, Star Wars is DEAD! And just look how they defend it - if you hate it, you're a manbaby! OH THE IRONY
Doctor Who: The Woman Who Fell to Earth (2018)
Jodie Whiitaker is NOT the doctor not even close!
WOW - How ANYONE can lie to defend this garbage is beyond me. Bradley Walsh is a great actor, would have made a great doctor, but he's going to be made a laughing stock in this!
SPOILERS AHEAD - They are on the Yorkshire moors, he throws his bike off a cliff - HOW ON EARTH DID IT LAND IN THE MIDDLE OF A FOREST - UNSCRATCHED!
The number of plotholes are so large, I lost count! She's a probationary officer, yet hasn't got a supervisor and is allowed to drive a police car on her own - women officers are NEVER on their own!
He has a medical condition preventing him riding a bike - so WHY do they think trying will help?
A crane driver who is afraid of heights! His dad owns the yard, so WHY does he need to ride a train to work ?
Why is a cockney bus driver getting cancer treatment in Yorkshire?
HOW can a sonic screwdriver be built using 21st century tech and STILL fit inside somethign she can hold?
How come the clothes fit her?
How come the blue alien is covered in HUMAN teeth? What not one non human prey?
WHY are they drinking tea outside in a cold Yorkshire winter - Bradley was shivering!
The story was insipid uninspired, the cast was made up of a such a diverse group that could only ever exist in a 90's Benetton poster!
I could go on and on about the plotholes, but this simply isn't worth the effort!
I've been a fan of Doctor who for around 45 years, yet if THIS is what we can expect now - I'm OUT!
This is beyond awful - AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
So much to pack into 1 film - should Infinity Wars have been a trilogy?
First of all when I rate a film, I use this system for rating - 5 is a pass, 6-7 merit, 8+ distinction. I NEVER give a 10./10 because it's IMPOSSIBLE to make a perfect film. Thus my 8/10 would be 8.5 (distinction) if I could give half a star. Thus this film is VERY GOOD, but has a few issues.
Because of the nature of the film, there are a LOT of characters, so inevitably some characters (2 in particular) is glossed over. Even Stan Lee's cameo was as brief as it could be (but considering his health that is understandable. This is the ULTIMATE crossover movie - virtually all marvel movie is represented in some way.
To say this film is action packed is an understatement - if anything there is TOO much action - I could make a decent case this is 2 films rolled into 1 - hence the title of the review! Having said that, all action scenes were well done, and the issues re CGI I had against Black Panther weren't present here.
As was shown in trailers, Thanos is on a quest to gather all the infinity stones to complete his plans for the universe. As such, Vision is a key target. We begin however in the cosmos with the Ragnarok survivors in a spot of bother. Loki shows his best & worst, and my appreciation for what Tom Hiddleston has done with this character is never higher than here. From here keeps flashing between earth & the cosmic realm - bringing into play the guardians.
From here, it is standard MCU fair - if you've enjoyed any of the other movies, you will love this one. The big difference is Thanos - played fantastically by Cable - sorry Josh Brolin (nod to deadpoll ;-) ). and BOY has he done a fantastic job. All the claims that killmonger was the best villain in the MCU - are made to look VERY silly after watching Thanos. His plan is beyond diabolical, but the way he is played, it is quite possible to sympathise with him. Without saying WHAT he is trying to do, his motivations are to be benevolent! Whilst if he succeeded would be about as horrific as is possible, he doesn't do it to be evil destructive. In HIS mind, he is trying to prevent an even worse catastrophe! Yes the film plays it from Thanos's POV, and Thanos is taking a macro view of the universe! What is so great, is how Thanos is portrayed with a level of sympathy. It's as if Thanos doesn't WANT to do this, but he sees it a the only way to ultimately save the various species!
I can see why people may not like this, there's things in here that I wouldn't have done. But for me, there is NO QUESTION this is an excellent film - but unlike many of the recent MCU films, no way could you consider this a romp! It's a complete tonal change from Ragnarok. And that is what I love about the whole MCU. They aren't afraid to change a working formula.
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, I've DELIBERATELY not discussed much, as this film needs to be seen - if nothing else Josh Brolin's performance. This DESERVES to make way much more money than Black Panther. When politics change, Black Panther will not date very will - Infinity War WILL in my view.
the trailers fairly represent the movie. You like them, you WILL love this. Oh and Peter Dinklage shows why he is such a giant talent!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
This has made me not want to watch another Star Wars movie!
How could they got this SO wrong? I have been watching these from the very first day of release back in the 70's! I've spent months excited giddy with anticipation for the next Star Wars movie. I've been excited about every little thing about Star Wars.
And yet the Last Jedi has changed all of that! It has turned into an SJW snoozefest about how powerful women are and how men are incompetent, cowardly or just plain evil. Does ANYONE think had Luke not been the core character of the first trilogy he would even be in this garbage?
I'm all for strong female roles, but seriously {SPOILER} Leia does her superman impression - but looked like an action figure being thrown across the room! And what about Admiral Akhbar? What's with MILITARY leaders wearing ball gowns and purple hair? What's with second in commands going on suicide missions? What's with those suicide missions!!!
I'm so disappointed - this was WORSE than the prequels. TWICE they had potentially powerful and interesting baddies - Snoke and Phasma - and they are just tossed aside.
And then there are the porgs..... WOW at least the ewoks had a role, all the porgs were there for ,was to sell merchandise.
The more I think about it, the more it's apparent that Star Wars is being turned into a soap opera - a BAD soap opera.
No doubt it will make it's money back many times over, but it SHOULDN'T. GARBAGE like this has spat on the legacy that came before it. I appreciate things move on and attitudes change, but there is a REASON Star Wars is the largest franchise in cinematic history.
Can ANYONE claim they would have become life long fans after watching this?
And what's worse, is they have given an entire trilogy over to the culprit of this crime against cinema - Kennedy should be FIRED for this.
Still what does my opinion matter? After all I've only been a fan for 40 years, bought the merchandise, the books the toys etc.
BUT NO MORE. Kathleen Kennedy you've FINALLY managed to do something I never thought possible. You've made me not care about a star wars movie!
SHAME ON YOU
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Welcome to the USS lensflare! Someone needs to get fired for this!
It gets 1 star, because 0 isn't an option! From the woeful acting by the "lead", to the terrible stuttered speaking of the klingons, to the use of lens flare at a level even JJ would be annoyed at! This fails at ALL LEVELS!
I was going to make this a spoiler review, but frankly the makers have already spoiled this! I cannot fully express just how awful this is. Case in point the opening scene. This nonsense cost CBS around $6m per episode I understand, yet you can actually see where the makeup ends and the actors face appears! Indeed it looked to me as if it was peeling away from his face!
Then you have the main character - Michael Burnham. A woman with a man's name because reasons, played by the walking dead alum. Boy she CANNOT ACT! I appreciate her backstory implies stunted responses (now apparently Spock has an adopted sister after over 50 yrs!), but even the times when she is showing emotion, she seems to have the range of an electric car with a broken battery cell. And as she is the core of the programme - oh dear.....
And then we get to the lensflare! Even JJ would be ashamed of how much lensflare and how it was used! Put it this way, they are situated within sight of a binary star system, and they don't appear to have darkened viewing screens - hasn't anyone of these people heard of how you look at a solar eclipse? They even at one point use a telescope to look directly in that direction!
Then you have the interaction between the lead and the rest of the crew. It's all seems as if they are at a speed dating event at a works Christmas do, and your boss and least favourite colleague are the only options! And all of this is at the beginning of the first episode!
It's SO BAD, I nearly stopped watching after the first 10 minutes - and I am a MASSIVE Star Trek fan! I don't know how much more I can express just how enraged I am at what they have done here! To paraphrase Clinton supporters NOT MY STAR TREK.
I'm SO GLAD, I'm based in the UK and don't have to make the decision NOT to pay for CBS all access! I cannot believe they think this is going to be a draw for this site!
And what is just so disheartening was that I was hoping against hope that all the bad press was like with the Orville. I was genuinely hoping that the anti-hype was overblown and that they could pull this out of the bag.
I feel dirty. I feel violated. I seem to recall Jason Isaacs challenging Star Trek fans not to watch this. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED.
DO NOT WATCH THIS - AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE - SOME PEOPLE AT CBS NEED TO BE FIRED OVER THIS!
Wonder Woman (2017)
DCEU finally gets it! Gal Gadot Was BORN for this!
There was a lot of pressure put on this movie to deliver. and BOY did it deliver! The film covers the origin story of Wonder Woman to present day, spending the majority of the film split between her isolation on Paradise Island, and WWI Europe. The film gives all characters - even the "minor" ones have some character development and depth.
Gal Gadot was BORN for this role! Chris Pine was superb as Steve Trevor.
If you enjoyed the trailers you will love the film! Patty Jenkins has put her stake in the ground. this is the NEW standard for superhero movies- MCU should take notice!
I NEVER give 10/10, because no film can ever be perfect - but this is close!
Whatever Patty Jenkins makes next - I shall watch!
Top Gear: Episode #24.5 (2017)
Top gear is dead - Avoid like the plague
It gets 1 star, because giving it 0 will mean I cannot review it!
Where to begin. It lacks originality, humour, interest. As viewers it is so painful to watch Joey from friends sound more wooden than Groot!
You have Chris Harris doing some sort of grumpy old man routine, and what planet is Eddie Jordan on! I am desperately trying to find ANYTHING positive to say about this show, but I can't I just can't!
I mean the buggys in the desert sketch, has just been done on the Grand Tour! These clowns LITERALLY don't have an original idea in their head!
No doubt the paid BBC trolls who gave this trash high scores haven't actually watched it! I come away with a sense of anger. An anger based on my TV licence being thrown away to massage the ego of the talentless Joey from friends.
If it were just a web series or they put it on the worthless BBC three fine, but they are STILL using the same high budget as the TRUE Top Gear, whilst it is almost down to 1/3 of the audience! This might be forgivable if at least the DVD sales were going well, but NO ONE is buying this bilge!
I beg the BBC put us all out of our misery. ANYONE who gives this more than a 5 has an agenda.
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE
Ghostbusters (2016)
Avoid like the plague
I would have given this film a zero, but it doesn't allow comments unless you give at least one star! Ignore Rotten tomatoes assessment. I tried to post my review of ghostbusters, but for some reason my negative reviewed could not post! Funny how positive reviews are allowed though!
The levels of sexism in this film are staggering. All the way through not a single male character is portrayed in a positive light! And don't get me wrong I LOVED bridesmaids, enjoyed Spy, and there are many many films with strong female characters. But somewhere along the way Paul Feig has decided that men are the bad guys and he MUST downplay them / denegrate them at all times. Even the boss is destroyed in a way that makes men feel uncomfortable.
Now ALL of this could be forgiven IF it was a half decent movie, however it fails there as well!
It has many cameo, but they are there simply for the sake, they add nothing to the film and if anything break the flow. I'm not a massive fanboy of the original - I enjoyed it, but not a massive fan. But this is unmitigated garbage. There is NOTHING to recommend this movie!
As the title says - AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE.
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Highlights just how bad BvS was
Civil war shows how an ensemble comic book hero movie SHOULD be done. The CGI in this movie didn't look like CGI - the airport scene - shows how a superhero movie with multiple main characters SHOULD be done! No doubt you've read all the critics reviews, and by and large they are RIGHT!
But CGI alone cannot carry a film (again one of the major flaws in BvS). The story itself is compelling. You can watch this film and enjoy it without watching any other Marvel movie, but it is SO more satisfying to get all the backstory!
Words wont do this movie justice - WATCH IT - ENJOY IT - you won't be disappointed!
It gets 9/10 because NO film can ever be perfect!
Narcos (2015)
A reason to subscribe to Netflix
There are very few series that deserve to be considered great. This could well be up there.
It's based on the true story of Pablo Escobar. I don't know how accurate it really is, but at the very least it FEELS 100% accurate.
The series hasn't gone down the English with columbian accents route, they have used Spanish with subtitles. For me it just adds to the authenticity of the series! Pablo's part is played effortlessly by the Brazillian actor Wagner Moura. He seems born to play the part! It has gone down the scorsese / goodfellas narrative approach. So if you don't like that style, you will be disappointed! If you are looking for a well researched authentic look into the life and deeds of the most notorious of the columbian drug lords - THIS IS IT! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! (It get's a 9 because NO series can ever be perfect!)
Honeymoon (2014)
Another in the wont get that time back list
I could mention the awful acting I could mention the awful plot I could mention the atrocious special effects There is no excuse for a film to be THIS bad!
The main draw of this film is the cast! For someone who cannot abide GOT, this was NOT a draw! This film is SO bad, it doesn't deserve more than the bare minimum!
This film was NOT shown at cinemas After watching it - I can see why! Do I REALLY need to say anymore?
It fails right across the board!
BEYOND awful
The Odd Couple (2015)
It's like microwave re-heated food
With the Odd Couple being so beloved from yester year, it was absolutely no surprise that people would flock to the reboot! Whilst I never personally caught the original TV series,I remember fondly the cinema version.
How sad it is to see what they have done to what is considered a classic!
As my Summary implies, this series hasn't withstood the reboot! The chemistry between Oscar and Felix is all but non-existent. Having one of the one dimensional ex-friends may on paper look like it would work, but after Joey and now this, I suspect that the use of friends brining in viewers has well and truly sailed!
For all the history of the show, this is a generic run of the mill sit-com that we have seen hundreds of times before! I have no problem making it politically correct for today's market, but if you add in characters it is unforgivable to make them unfunny!
Quite frankly his assistance adds nothing to the show! I cannot blame the actress, the scripts are simply terrible!
I mean to go from 12.5 million to just over 1/2 that in 5 episodes tells you all you need to know! Imean it comes off the back of TBBT yet is now getting less then MOM!
I'd like to put in spoilers, but the show is so generic and formulaic, I genuinely cannot think of a noteworthy bit!
TBF Felix has caught the essence of the original, but that is hardly saying something!
Maybe I am too familiar with the film version! I could actually believe the characters of Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon were friends (oh the irony!).
If you like generic formulaic sit-coms, then this might be the show for you.
Still it's better than the McCarthys - but that is hardly a selling point!
Nothing to see here
Horns (2013)
Better than I expected
I have to be honest, I have been scathing of some of Daniel's previous work, so I wasn't going to bother with this film. However, I watched the mini series he did with John Hamm A Young Doctor's Notebook, and Daniel showed that he has a lot more to his talents than Harry Potter! So I decided to give Horns a chance - I am SO glad that I did! Horns isn't your usual horror story and in my opinion is better for it! It's the story of a man coping with heartbreak and all the while under suspicion for the murder of his childhood sweetheart.
Early in the film the main character Ig (Radcliffe) starts to grow horns. These horns make all those around him with a guilty secret unable to hide this secret and they are compelled to announce it to the world and enact it! Only if you have sin will you see the horns! As you can imagine everyone in the town has skeletons in their closets. At first it is overwhelming for Ig, however as he grows accustomed to his new powers, Ig resolves to find out exactly who killed his girlfriend.
The only person who is unable to see the horns is his best friend Lee who is acting as his attorney - the only person in the town not convinced of Ig's guilt! Eventually however we discover exactly WHY he cannot see the horns, as he is wearing Ig's dead girlfriend's necklace! When this is removed, we discover exactly how Lee knows Ig didn't kill her - because Lee did it! Ultimately this is all standard fair for this kind of film, but what is so refreshing, is the way Daniel seems so convincingly to convey the sheer turmoil of someone who has lost the thing most dear to them.
It's refreshing, and enjoyable, and I liked it!
Gotham (2014)
A Worthy series
I like Gotham. I had my doubts initially as it tried to introduce so many main characters from episode 1, but as it has progressed, I like a lot of what it is trying to do!
The Penguin is played brilliantly. True it has basically shown all of Penguins character - so isn't going to evolve. That said, I much prefer the rise in power of Penguin rather than his personality!
Edward Nigma- I can see some potential here. He is being evolved far more gradually, and it is good to have the anticipation of the event(s) that cause him to eventually flip to the dark side. Will it be the librarian that causes this?
I like Bruce Wayne & Alfred - I like the chemistry of that pair. Not convinced by Selina Kyle, but it plays well.
Jim Gordon. I like his character, and could see why he would be made commissioner.
Here is where it fails for me - Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett SMith). She must be paid by how much she overacts! I find her utterly unbelievable and cannot see how she fits in. She can only be there to act as a foil to Penguin's ambitions, but considering there is ALREADY a mafia don that has it in for him, why would a mafia don's underling be such a problem for Penguin?
If there had to be one major character to go Fish Mooney is a No Brainer!
But that is a minor blip in an otherwise very good show!
Well done DC!
Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014)
I am torn - James bond or Kingsman - Gritty or SPECTACULAR? I simply LOVE this film!
NO FILM can possibly get 10/10, because there can ALWAYS be an improvement! HOWEVER 9/10 is the maximum I EVER give a film (likes of Goodfellas & The Godfather get 9/10 from me!)
I mean when out of the blue Mark Hammill appears as a British scientist, you KNOW you are in for something special!
I cannot express just how refreshing this film is for the spy film genre!
I'm torn on Samuel Jackson's character. As a megalomaniac then great it's Samuel Jackson for goodness sake! But that accent! It's amusing for a short while, but by the end the joke wore off. But that is a small price to pay - FOR GOODNESS SAKE THE BADDIE IS SAM JACKSON!!!!!
If you are looking for an eat prey love of a tinker tailor, then this film is NOT the film for you!
It is an escapism film - pure and simple! Will it impress the critics? WHO CARES!
If you are a fan of Juno or french rom-coms then I'd guess you won't enjoy this!
I would happily watch this again - as far as I am concerned I cannot give it higher praise!
It isn't for everyone - but which film is?
Catch it on the big screen - CANNOT WAIT for the sequel!
Oh and I LOVE how the offer from the princess tips it hat to James Bond, and updates it BEAUTIFULLY!
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014)
Pretentious Over Hyped Calptrap
I could go into detail as to just how awful this film is, but I would rather throw a glass of water at the wall to watch the paint dry!
I have no doubt that the actors enjoyed making this dross, and I have no doubt the technical aspects of the film making techniques are impressive (copying Hitchcock's attempt to make it as a single shot).
HOWEVER, as a film goer, all I want to have is an entertaining film! And as a paying customer, this film didn't just fail, it failed MASSIVELY.
It's a pretentious art-house film attacking films successful films / actors for daring to pander to what people want rather than what the actor's think is worthy!
No doubt the makers thought it was a blistering insight into this world (it may well be), but IT IS JUST PLAIN DULL!
THe fundamental film, is that it claims to be a comedy. Thing is IT WAS NOT FUNNY!
If you like this art-house pretentious type of movie (anything with Edward Norton in basically), you will like this garbage.
I half expected one of the Wilsons & Bill Murray popping up in cameos as they are want to do in this genre of film.
I'd contain spoilers, but there is NOTHING to spoil, as spoiling implies there are good bits!
Instantly forgettable Prententious GARBAGE
AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE
Dr. Cabbie (2014)
Kunal Nayyar struck lucky with Big Bang Theory!
Because based on this utter tosh he doesn't have a comedic bone in his body! What a travesty this film has the gall to call itself a comedy! Without wit timing or anything resembling humour, I cannot help but get the feeling that the £200k or so it got from "box office" was a private personal screening of the Nayyar family! Maybe it's a cultural thing, maybe I'm not supposed to get the jokes because they are so subtle. Or maybe these glowing reviews are written by people PAID to do so! I cannot imagine ANYONE bar people directly involved in the film giving it anywher near 5/10 yet alone 10 stars! I'd give spoilers, but that would imply there were good things in this film that could be spoilt! I mean the entire premise of the film necessitates suspension of belief, and I am more than happy to do so IF it is entertaining.
Kunal Nayyar was the SOLE reason I watched this film - it was morbid curiosity to see if he is a really poor actor (as I suspected) or his part in the Big Bang Theory was played that way.
Sadly it's him - he just isn't a very good actor! AVOID
The Interview (2014)
Standard Seth Rogen fare
Can only assume some of the "reviews" for this film are politically motivated rather than genuine reviews!
Anyway down to a genuine review. I will be honest not the biggest of Seth Rogen's stuff, however there are some things that tickled me. It is never going to win any comedy awards and certainly isn't going to win an Oscar, but I have seen far far worse!
Basically if you have seen any other of Seth's films, you will know EXACTLY what you are in for. Ultimately it is what it is.
Certainly I cannot see why there is so much vitriol from critics, then again I have to question the judgement of certain critics!
As I said I am not a massive Rogen fan, but there were slapstick parts that I did enjoy, and it did have an enjoyable premise.
I wont be buying the DVD, but I certainly wont be denouncing it!
I give it 7, because it was better than I thought it was going to be!
The McCarthys (2014)
Prime example of sit com by the numbers
Can forgive cliché filled one dimensional character, 30 yr old script, dull as dishwater delivery, inane premise, and obvious stereotypes (sports obsessed Boston family, idiot son, loose daughter etc). ALL of this could be forgiven if the show was funny!
This was done nearly 30 years ago and WAY WAY better in Married with children.
This genre can be funny, if it has a decent script. Just take a look at IT Crowd, Father Ted, or to a lesser extent Big Bang.
NONE of these are particularly original, but are funny! Surely the ONLY criteria a comedy is supposed to be judged on IMHO!
Not sure if it is going to be a big US hit, but it most definitely isn't going to cross the pond!
This show needs to be put out of our misery!
DULL DULL DULL
Mrs. Brown's Boys D'Movie (2014)
Yet another 2 hours of my life wasted
Where do I begin?
I can forgive the dated "humour", I can forgive(well maybe not) the racist blind ninja character (using herro instead of hello etc), I can even forgive the totally ludicrous plot line (£96 in old money becomes a debt of 4 million euro).
These can be forgiven IF the film was funny. Sadly it just isn't. Well that's not true, there was an outtake that made me smirk once, but honestly this film is just plain awful!
I mean the grandad character is now a former IRA terrorist and they use a plot line of planting a carbomb is supposed to be funny!
Brendan O'Carroll claimed Irish comedy is different to typical English humour. Hence I watched this film and gave him the benefit of the doubt. Now, maybe I'm biased, maybe I am spoiled by watching Father Ted or IT Crowd or Black Books (all written by IRISH writers BTW), maybe I am not the target audience. But this was just painful to watch.
To use his words for feck sake they didn't even have the Mrs Brown Theme tune!
TBF there was a group in front of me who laughed throughout, but then again, these same people thought it a good idea to come in late and then shout where are we seated, and THEN shouting sorry for shouting! If that is the target audience, then fair do.
I didn't expect much from this film, it failed to deliver on what I expected.
Father Ted this is NOT.
Let's just say I wont be rushing out to get it on DVD!
AVOID LIKE THE FECKING PLAGUE!
House of Cards (2013)
How is it Netflix Original when House of Cards was on BBC?
TBF the BBC version had Francis Urquhart (not Frank Underwood), but it is basically the same show!
However, this is not in anyway a failing - in many ways it has originality, wit, intelligence, and above all for a programme on a subscription only basis - high entertainment value. I mean just the first 5 monologue from FU, and you know they have made a very good copy.
But if ever you get to watch the original, please take the opportunity!
Is this show as good as the original?
You may very well say that, I couldn't possibly comment!
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)
So awful I LITERALLY fell asleep!
Where can I begin with the "superlatives" of how poor this film is? Way way too long, scant reference to the books (Considering the ONLY reason these stories are so popular was because of the strength of the writing!) a ridiculous and crass "love" story. Add the criminal under use of Martin Freeman and the "crimes" against Tolkien start to add up!
No question the effects are stunning, but with technology as it is, even films with smaller budgets can have great CGI nowadays. Having stunning graphics simply isn't good enough any more! For the Tolkien purists they will be horrified to what they have done with the book. Seems film writers think they know the hobbit better than Tolkien - THEY ARE WRONG! No question people will watch this in their droves, and no question the final film will get a huge following. All I can hope for is that the final film is better than this, because this film STINKS
The Woman in Black (2012)
Radcliffe / Potter - more wooden then a forest of trees!
Watching Harry Potter- SORRY Daniel Radcliffe I was reminded on the old spitting image sketch about Roger Moore.
In it The Moore puppet's only facial expressions for all his emotions was either one or the other eyebrows lifting.
It appears young Mr Potter / Radcliffe prescibes to the same "method" acting school of thought. The guy just CANNOT do emotion!!!
With the sound turned down you cannot tell if he is happy, sad, angry, afraid, or indeed whether he needs the loo! To say his acting is wooden is doing an injustice to trees! I'm sure he tries hard but he simply cannot do emotion. He is trying to play a grief stricken widower, but you can't help yourself thinking 10 points to griffindor! He has made multi multi millions from that franchise, so will never have to worry about working again, which is just as well as from the basis of this pile of horse's business, he is going to find it hard to get work! No doubt Harry Potter mania got him this gig, but this guy is NEVER EVER going to get an Oscar! But he might earn a few rotten tomatoes! AWFUL AWFUL PERFORMANCE - still I'm sure he's crying all the way to the bank!
Skyfall (2012)
WOW - SIMPLY WOW - Daniel Craig Nails it as Bond !!!
No film can EVER be perfect, hence Skyfall only gets a 9/10! Superb opening title sequence, and Bond showing his human side more than ever before.
Strong final performance from Dame Judy as M, and her death scene at Bonds family estate was really moving. Also shows how moneypenny gets to where she is (qualified but not able as she sowed by accidentally shooting bond in the title sequence!) and Ralph ( its RALPH - Not Rayph!) will i'm sure be a superb replacement M! The new Q looks like he will from now on be a more prominent character.
from the fabulous titles with Adele's haunting melodies to the re-invention, Sam Mendes should be a dead cert to make bond films from now on.
Must be so frustrating the US not getting Skyfall til Nov 9, but hey its worth the wait! Spoilers or no - this is a SUPERB MUST SEE FILM IN IT'S OWN RIGHT!
