In a sense, the original Star Trek is what I grew up watching and many of the ideas from this ingenious series are in use today, which is amazing. Along with the Science Fiction came some Comedy, which I love to see seamlessly placed in the right spots on what is mostly dealing with serious issues of our times.
In those younger years of my life, when Color TV was a new thing, I learned a lot about the Family values from TV from shows like “The Little House on the Prairie” and that “Television Programming” back then was used for far better teaching of what is right and wrong, while still showing Christian shows, then what it is used for today to our Children as they try to undermine Parents teachings and show kids that it’s great to be a Drag Queen, etc.. with that trash on Disney+ programming and commercials. They have exceeded my worst nightmares and I look at friends of ours and they actually have a TV in their Children’s bedrooms, which is something that we were never going to do to our Children as we did more activities with them and used Dinner as a time of Family Conversation, while never using TV trays to sit around a TV together as a Family, which seems insane to me, but is normal for most.
TV time was spent together as a Family after all Homework was done and chores, while watching TV that was agreed upon by all.
I did make my mistakes with my 2 boys, by watching my favorite Science Fiction Movies with Arnold Swartzenneger and Sylvester Stallone, while forgetting that the Programmers loved to throw seems of Sex in every movie, no matter how unnecessary it was. No Parent is perfect, but thanks to IMDB, I can now go to the review sections and find out what is really going on in a movie or tv show.
As an example of the person I grew up to be after growing up in Baltimore City in the late 60’s and early 70’s, I had no idea what Racism was, because my parents had their friends over to our house who were Black (I thought the word odd, since the skin color was never Black, but rather a range of Browns), Asian, Jewish, etc..
We had the Principal from our Elementary School over for dinner often and she was black, which taught me that the only differences were of interest to me yo learn more about their cultures they had grown up in. So, for me it is not about color of a man or woman’s skin but rather the persons ideological views and actions.
To this day, I believe the same way, as I see groups of people who have specific views or are the people they have become due to how they were raised.
To say I’m definitively a person of White Privilege is a complete Lie, because I grew up poor and when it came time to grow up, I was kicked out of the house when I was 18, just as my older Sister and Brothers were & we had to live at rock bottom and make our own way in life. I know that is more than likely Not how most people were raised, because in essence there are 3 types of Parenting styles, with 1 that has been raised a certain way and believed that if it was good enough for them, then it was good enough for me & the opposite view, that there is no way that I could put my Children through what I went through and make it as easy for them as possible, and finally the 3rd set of Parents, who take the Good from both of their Parents raising types and by throwing away the Bad, then filling in the rest with a lot of study on what works and what has not worked in parenting, while raising children to be Ethical, to have Morals and Virtues, as well as to teach them Financial Responsibility while they are young, so they learn valuable lessons with $100 verses $1,000’s when they are Adults. I could write a lot more about proper parenting, but I’ve learned that no matter how good of a Parent you are, your Children all have minds of their own and will learn life’s Lessons in 1 way or the other.
Reviews
The Banshees of Inisherin (2022)
Terrible, only watched until the end because of high ratings.
This was a sad excuse for a movie, not to mention, Nominated for "Best Picture".
Who are they Kidd here, when all you learn or glean from this movie is that one or both men are Mentally Insane, which is very obvious with the older man, who self-mutilates himself without any regrets.
To be labeled as a Drama/Comedy is another part of the Insanity, as it is barely funny at all and the story simply doesn't work.
I gave 1/2 a Star for the Dimmest Character who had to act challenged as though he were trying to be star in the movie "Rain Man".
I only watched this all the way the through because of the Oscar Nomination and high ratings, but the Professional Reviewers in this World must be part of the "Dumbed Down" movement!
The actual "Best Picture" winner should be "Top Gun Maverick", which is so well made with Filmography that is cutting edge and has never been done before, as well as the fact that the whole Family will enjoy it and it has the quality and story that makes you want to watch it over and over, which is a must quality to seriously be considered for "Best Picture or Film".
I will add "Avatar: The way of the Water" as the only other competition for the Best Picture Award, in my opinion.
Where the Crawdads Sing (2022)
Great Story and Artistry in this film that can only be found in the past
I did not read the book, so I had no clue where this was going, but when you start watching this film, you see the 1st hand brutalities that some went through in those times and still today because of alcohol, sex and other addictions.
This movie shows the hardships of the minorities and not all about color, but of culture, that I'm certain truly occurred back in the timeframe of the 50s and 60s.
The beauty in this movie, which was shown in the nature of the marshland was spectacular, along with the artistry of the drawings and seeing all the different insects, water creatures and birds.
As far as the story goes, I was completely guessing the entire time, while keeping me on the edge of my seat.
I simply hate to see injustices that take place against those who typically can't defend themselves, especially when it involves violent men against their wives or children, because I had a step-father who abused my mother.
I felt that the stories timeline did a good job, although the actress appeared to look exactly the same through a 7 year time period, so it was helpful to see the dates of each switch in the timeline as the story moves forward.
The outcast marsh girl was very convincing and it was so believable that the minority couple of strong faith that owned the town store and boat gas station were the couple without their own children who took the time to look after Kya when she was living alone and was basically her only support in the town, without the need to play the racism card that seems to infect everything in life today. It was a joy to watch their relationship grow throughout the film.
Then there are the 2 boys who are attracted to Kya, which becomes a big part of the film.
I loved how they portrayed the young man Tate, his 1st meetings with Kya when they were both older, his Dad letting him know to be careful with her (in regard to not having sex and his unwillingness to continue through with sex when they fell in young love, because he respected her too much and told her she was more valuable than that and had more to lose than he did, and I truly believe that there were many strong and good men of character to that degree back then, even though he failed her in other ways.
In regards to Chase, he was the high school football quarterback who possibly played on every girl in town and eventually Kya to the eventual point of rape. Kya correctly let her truly intelligent lawyer know why she never turned him in to the police, because the woman were never believed back then and it would have only labeled her as a whore, which possibly occurred more than we will ever know back then, by the young men who were never parented properly to respect woman.
All in all, this is a very intelligent take on a powerful story of a young girl growing up on her own in the marsh land and the way she learned and how she achieved so much throughout her life time there even throughout the worst of situations and a murder trial.
Home Fires (2015)
Absolutely Fantastic & Cancelled far too soon!
I Loved the time period Drama at the beginning of WWII and of course with excellent acting and actors from Downton Abbey to boot, but cut way too short, once invested after just 2 short seasons.
Great character building in the 1st season, which could have gone onward toward many years of success.
Lots to see if the Royal Air Force, as well as refugee Czech Soldiers who were based in England after their Country fell.
My ending with the Show Cancelled, was that the plane crashes into Bob the Idiot's house and burns all his writings to date as Pat stairs on in pure joy, since he wasn't worth anything to anyone anyhow!
Nope (2022)
A very creative New Take, Not Of Planet Earth (NOPE
I'm guessing people are giving poor reviews because they just aren't going into this movie realizing no that it's a Science Fiction take on an Extraterrestrial Predator or whatever, but Peele does an interesting job of creating for those of us who Love these types of films, a very new and interesting take on the Alien in the Movie.
There is nothing in the movie that is Political or Hollywood'ish, which is what turns me off of movies today.
After making this short case as to why I rated it a 8, after never seeing a Peele movie before, I can see how thought out this film actually is, with one example of the Disastrous Monkey show and the 1 shoe that stays standing up from the floor on its heal, which immediately let me know that what transpired throughout the movie, was not of this Earth.
I really like intelligent movies and I do realize that so many TV and Movie watchers actually hard it when they have to think through what they are watching, but that is what separates this film from so many others.
I hope this short take on the film, shows many who wouldn't think of watching the film because what seems like a dumb title, actually give it a chance, when NOPE, actually stands for, Not Of Planet Earth.
Prey (2022)
Nice jump upwards for Predator Franchise
Very Good Predator Movie with the Amarican Indian (Comanche) as the main characters and has a tremendously smart Female Star, in that through her character building was handled well as she tried to follow her Brothers footsteps.
She does a great job throughout the film along with her Brother as another great young character.
We see others in the fight as well, but like with the original Predator movie with Arnold needing g to use his brain over brawn to beat the Predator, this film actually makes the ending a real possibility, because it takes more Predator Class Earthlings than 1 to bring down this Predator.
There is a lot of blood and guts which are part of this franchise and it's done just right in my opinion .
Paper Girls (2022)
Great show for Mature Audience, profanity throughout
I personally love Time Travel shows and movies of all kinds and especially like strong female characters, which I believe this show brings to the table.
The show starts out a little confusing, but what Time Travel show doesn't, and it progressively gets better and better through the last episode, making you wish there were more to watch, which is the best way to leave your Audience.
The show is definitely for mature individuals and tells a Great Story in my opinion, which makes me wonder what type of research was done by the Writer, Producer, and Director, to come up with such unusual and unintelligent language for 12 year old Girls depicted here.
Many will not like my review because I believe the only decent thing to do is write a warning below for all the Parents who care about how their Children communicate and at what age they feel is Safe for their Children to watch shows like this one, which is intended for Adults and young Adults.
!Profanity Warning! - Show is Rated MA for Mature Audiences!
Now to be real about the time period and Profanity that this shows projects as Normal for that age. I was 4 years out of High School in 1988 and came from a broken home where our Mother left us during our Middle School years, close to these Girls ages and I cannot remember my Sister and Brothers ever using this pervasive of a level of Profanity that the Girls on this show use and our situation was closer to Mac, then any other Girl. This part of the review is needed to warn Parents who want their Children to remain decent, as this type of language is Not acceptable in Schools, where I have worked, nor in most Workplaces. So, in the event that you want to protect your Children from watching this type of appealing show to young Girls and you do Not believe that this form of communication is Intelligent, OK or Normal, you will now know how bad the language is throughout all episodes. The fact is that the 12 yr old Girls in this show use far more profanity than any of the Adults and my siblings and I never threw around F-Bombs like these supposed 12 year old girls do in this show. Enough of that or the immoral police will censor me for having standards.
The Expanse (2015)
Show just got better over time!
This story starts out Building a Story framework that's a tad slow, but if you stay with this show, you will understand why, as each part is integral to the next.
I'm writing this review after watching Season 6's finally and I have to say that if the Show continues it will be great and if that was the last Episode, it will be great! What a finally that fulfills all your hopes, but also leaves questions, like all great ScyFy shows and movies do.
This show makes you feel like you can believe that this could happen in the future.
Simply have to watch again to catch all I missed from originally believing it was over at the end of Season 4, but so glad that it came back.
Well worth taking up on Amazon's free month of Prime just to watch this series alone.
Anatomy of a Scandal (2022)
This story is simply unbelievable!
I made it through 2 episodes to realize that this Story was about "Giving it to the MAN"!
I was hoping for something good based on a book, but I guarantee the book was no where near this bad or unbelievable.
You don't have to be a lawyer to know that things in this show were simply not done correctly, so I decided to skip the boredom a random access memories and the ridiculous notion that anyone would believe the young intern based on here-say.
Then you find out that it was best not to waste another minute of your time, no matter how much you want to see Mary, from Downton Abbey do well after that great show.
Skip at all cost or read the book, as it's certain to make more sense.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Another failure by Disney, Big Fail!
Let me say that it just doesn't follow any of the original Stan Lee Marvel Comics.
Possibly the Worst of all the Movies made this far.
I feel terrible for Dr. Strange and The Scarlet Witch for having their characters so discombobulated.
If you can just buy anything that Disney shoved down your throat, than you will love this movie.
Just Ughfull.
Ms. Marvel (2022)
Disney didn't totally screw this Marvel hero up.
Not bad at all and pretty entertaining to see the story behind the young Kamala Khan.
Not Woke as I thought considering that the population in the area was repress and the Pakistan India story was an excellent part of the story giving us some Historical Fiction to boot.
More geared towards the younger Fans, but enjoyable for most of the Family.
Keep doing it like this Disney and you may not go broke.
The Lincoln Lawyer (2022)
Loved it because it was Family Friendly and had me guessing.
This show, along with most based on a book are worth the watch and are typically written intellectually.
My Wife & I loved it and recommend this series to everyone based on the entertainment and the twist in this Lawyer, Crime Drama.
There are a lot of bad reviews written by younger people who are used to the garbage most shows put in them to attract their age group, but it's not here and I'm referring to the Sex Scenes, which simply do not need to be on televised shows that children can watch by themselves in their bedrooms.
I liked the idea of the Back Surgery from his accident that kept him from practicing law for several years and I get that part, because I've been there. Others in the negative reviews find that unbelievable, but to me, that is really what happens in real life.
There is so much to root for in this show, with a twisted ending that I doubt any of the naysayers saw coming, as I certainly didn't see it coming until it did.
I hate Wokeness in TV just like the next person, but to be critical of this show because the lead role is by a Latino/American is literally over the top, especially considering this is LA we are talking about.
All in All, great Family entertainment possibly toned down from the books I haven't read and definitely better than the trashy Lincoln Lawyer movie that I watched following this series, which portrayed the Defense Attorney as garbage, instead of how this show teaches us that "Everyone is presumed Innocent until Proven Guilty" and shows that being a Defense Attorney can be a Noble Profession after all.
Sorry for those who Hated it, but I'm guessing there from a younger generation.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Finally, a Star Trek Worth Watching!
I've suffered through the recently politicized Star Trek Discovery's last 2 Seasons, but this Star Trek "Strange New Worlds" tells a good tale of the Adventures of Enterprise Captain Pike, before James T. Kirk takes over.
Several of the best actors from the time that Discovery was working with the Enterprise have been brought back and Season 1 has been a Hut, Episode through Episode, as it emulates the Truer picture of what Gene Roddenberry had created and I can't wait for Season 2.
The only Liberal Wokeness you will see, is the beginning Rainbow left by the USS Enterprise tail stream through space, which made me think that this may have the same garbage most other shows from Star Trek Discovery last 2 Seasons that now seem so far fetched, as it doesn't mirror any other Gene Roddenberry type Series. Thankfully, this is an intellectual take along the true Star Trek line of good shows that allow us to believe that what we are watching could actually happen, without so much focus on the Liberal Agenda that left a bad taste in many of our memories from how Bad Discovery became with most characters being an unreal representation of Humanity, then what is typically normal in real life. I'm all for Diversity, but not in total reverse, as I and most normal viewers will no longer accept.
Disney has destroyed the Star Wars Series, as well as all future Marvel movies in their attempt to make the World believe that there are more LGTBQ-RST+ people in the world, then there are normal people and I for one will not watch those shows anymore.
So, High Praise for the 1st Season of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" with Captain Pike and Spock, with a little taste of the future Enterprise mixed in.
Win the Wilderness: Alaska (2020)
Really Educational and Beautiful Show
This was a true joy to watch and Learn about Duane Ose and the humongous task he worked on with his Wife for 30+ years.
I absolutely loved seeing the raw Video footage from 1986 and onward regarding the early days deep in Alaska at Ose Mountain.
As for the Couple's who were vying for taking on such a Beautiful yet harsh lifestyle, I knew it would be a hard choice in each stage and found myself with the same choices through each episode, except who left in what order in the Final 3.
I did tear up at the end because of how tough the choice had to be, but also because I felt that the Ose's left their legacy to the right couple who worked best together.
I'm not sure why they would choose English Couples to compete, because none of them would have the necessary skills to deal with deep snow, which in and of itself rarely happens in Great Britain. So, I figure that a British Television Station made the best offer to the Ose's to do this show.
Definitely one of my Favorite Reality shows where everyone is rooting for each other the entire time and act civilized along the journey.
Snowflake Mountain (2022)
Extraordinary Growth of Snowflakes
This show showed me what the term "Snowflake" refers to and the reality of how the Millennial Generation has dealt with their crisis incorrectly, instead of doing good for each person based on their own personal Struggles and Fears, that have crippled their growth into productive adults.
This show is so addictive as you watch how change takes place in positive ways for each person involved and the satisfaction they each feel through their achievements.
I recommend this to everyone and really hope to see another season real soon.
It is one of the few reality shows that I have watched due to what it involves in turning Adult Children into true Adults!
This Show has Winner written all over it!
The Saint (1997)
Loved Val's multiple Characters
The Saint with Val Kilmer is one of my Favorite Films, based on Val's ability to truly act out each part.
The Story is very good as well.
Forget about the original because it has nothing to do with it and is a new story on its own and is very entertaining. So much so, that I've watched it multiple times and just recently to rate it.
London Fields (2018)
Terrible acting!!!
Amber Heard shouldn't act anywhere, not in Court and especially not on the movie screen.
She is far better off going back to modeling so she can pay all her losses off.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Season 1&2 decent, then got Woke
The best part about this series is hopefully the Spin off of "Strange New Worlds" in 2022.
The worst part is that there will never be a Captain of any Spaceship that is so over the top empathetic and constantly wrenching her face, near tears, as the way the lady captain did in Season 4.
Season 3 was barely watchable, but I had hope it couldn't get any worse.
I skipped most of the way through Season 4 and at the end of the last ridiculous episode, out walks Stacey Abrams, the biggest Fake President Wanabe Politician from Georgia, who's done every cheating scheme to get elected, but never could, and yet somehow qualified to walk onto the set of this worst ending I've ever witnessed in my Life's Love of Star Trek.
Shut this Ignorant Show Down and fire everyone involved in Season 4.
Strange New Worlds will hopefully do a better job of staying out of the Liberal Woke Politics that this show did and who knows why, when there is NO Logic in Liberal Thinking, NONE!
We Own This City (2022)
So Poor and I'm embarrassed to say I lived there
This is just a run of the mill piece of garbage about a City that is become the laughing stock of the Nation, with so many corrupt officials going so far back, I can't remember how long it's been.
I performed service in City Hall and I caused a slight toaster smell and the building cleared out, because that's how badly the people in the building need a break in their meaningless days.
Now they have a joke of a Head Prosecutor who doesn't prosecute crime.
Time to turn Baltimore Off!
Fortress (2021)
WOW that was BAD in every way!!! Bruce Willis, seriously?
I can't believe Bruce Willis would be in such a bad and predictable movie that absolutely has no realism.
The Fortress is basically retired people from Government living in horribly painted dark green, 1 room buildings that have a sofa and recliner.
The Story is bad, acting is atrocious and non of it makes any sense.
To think one critics review stated that there is already a 2nd movie is ridiculous.
My personal dream for poor movie makers like this is to go out of business by bankruptcy.
Dune (2021)
Fantastic, beyond the book & previous makes
This Movie is just the 1st part in a series, which best portrays the book I once read and fell in love with the ideals of Science Fiction to a believable sense which includes a foretold Prophecy a a Savior of a desert World.
The unique ability of today's FX and the best in Science Fiction Story Telling of the Past brings another great Tale, of the Good verses the Absolute Evil.
Watch on as you will not regret it, except possibly for the wait until the next part.
IO (2019)
If you're looking for believable, do not watch!
Took me a minute to realize I've watched it already out of boredom and the love of Sci-Fy, but that is where it ends.
She runs out of oxygen in her tank, then Runs to her 4-wheeler to get more oxygen and makes it just in time.
Then she hopes on a 4-wheeler with a combustion engine and it starts up fine without O2. I Turn it Off and give it a bad review.
News flash to writers today of Scy-Fy, it at least has to be believable!!
The fruition of the "Dumbing Down of America" as I quickly made my way through reviews until I couldn't take it anymore, due to ignorance and the fact that mankind adapts.
We Adapt and if we really had an O2 level issue to deal with (such as Climate Changers Claim) we would see a change in CO2 levels as well, which is something I haven't recorded myself in 30 years of reading it for Indoor Air Quality, where the Outside CO2 has been a constant 400 ppm CO2 in Rural areas and 500 ppm of CO2 in the Cities.
Enough with Climate Change End of the World Fear-Mongering, because it's a Lie.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Hollywood & their End of Earth Climate Fear
We are smart enough to build spaceships to go into space for long periods of time and we are aware enough to cut back on Carbon Emissions, but we will never stop the World from being obliterated because humans live here on Earth.
Leave it to Hollywood and Political Elitists who really know nothing, to try to convince the rest of us how wrong we are.
The Movie was just a poor excuse for using a Climate Collapse to build on, with an inhabitable moon not that far away and ultimately, everyone on Earth dead with only a Man and a pregnant Woman to go back to live on the Moon until their deaths.
This movie is an insult to anyone with Intelligence!
The Social Dilemma (2020)
This should be the Greatest Concern to Americans Today
This is a Must Watch Documentary for all Family except those who have never been drawn into this Social Media thing (because no one really knew what was driving it).
If you have seen any of the Congress sessions recently pertaining to the problems shown here, then you are simply not aware of the Biggest Ever System of Brainwashing ever used on Mankind.
Not everyone wants to know the Truth, similar to the Matrix, but when people are Depressed through a pandemic while still in touch with their friends on Social Media, then Social Media is NOT helping anyone, but is in fact Harming our own Family Members.
If you have Family that has never been in Social Media, then you have witnessed how much more content with their lives and real socializing.
Trump Card (2020)
A Thinking Persons Documentary! Brilliant
If you want the Truth revealed in this day and age of False News, Government corruption & the Leftest Agenda.
Open your minds and research this information for yourself.
2 Tim 2:15 "Study to show yourself approved to God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
Deep Blue Sea 3 (2020)
Climate Change is reason for killer sharks
To start with, I love the Shark movies as Fiction, but please, please do not bring fake news into movies.
The Fear-Mongering occurs constantly from one radical excuse to another.
I work with CO2 levels and they haven't changed in 15 years & no Ocean Rise has been recorded, except by 3 scientists. If you go back and watch a Leonard Nemoy Documentary in the 70's, it was an Ice Age coming.
Can we please watch an original idea for a Shark Thriller.
