Ad Astra (2019)
meh...
Ouch, what can I say about this stupid thing...
Very expensive lemon.
It's boring, badly edited and someone I guess forgot that ''science'' is one of the words that makes up ''science fiction''.
I'm Still Here (2010)
1st viewing, I was perplexed......
I watched this movie twice:
The first time when it just came out where I was unable to tell if this was real, partly real or the whole thing just a big hoax wanting to pass on a serious message. I guess I pretty much watched it as being real, I almost walked out part of the way as I really like JP and thinking that he would go down such destructive spiral made me sad for him, still I stayed til the end of the film, a clue in the end credits started convincing me that it was all an act.(I'll not mention what it is as I don't like to have spoilers, it's not a film description, it's my impression of the film).
The second time was tonight, October 21st 2019, I wanted to watch it again with the optic of knowing it was all a big hoax, actually if you think of it, an incredible hoax because JP had to pretty much stay in character for near two years, many months after filming was booked. But the important thing in this movie is the crude message of how easy it can be to go way up but fall way down and be unable to control the drop, it is a good film to understand the sort of mental distress fame may have on some famous people, how much stress it might be to have to constantly watch what you say or do as it does not seem to take much in this fickle world to get dumped and ridiculed. I can see where some might just loose it and just suddenly want to be themselves and do and say whatever they want without the constant self destruction clouds above them.
Read all the negative reviews, some are a lot of fun hehe, some of the good reviews are interesting too and show empathy in understanding the message to gain behind the raunchy wrapper.
Twin Peaks (1990)
So lame and cheesy..
Few year ago I tried watching this and gave up, I just tried again as I had forgotten why I had not gotten around watching it seeing it has a lot of very good reviews. I was not even able to watch one episode, it's super cheesy, wooden acting, the dialogues lameness was unpreditable, not because they are original but because it's so deeply cliche that you wouldn't expect it. Dialogue keep explaining things that are self explanatory if you have eyes and are older than 5 years old. But the thing that bothers me the most is the melodramatic music, which whenever used in a show or a movie is done to try to compensate for poor acting and lack of cinematographic ambience . Or a little jazz suspense music with 2 guys sitting at a table looking like they forgot they had to fake the seriousness of the scene. Anyways it's just terrible, why so many people review this as if it was a jewel really baffles me.
What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (2018)
Not a Trekkie but DS9 was my favorite..
Not sure this documentary is for everyone but it is for sure for anyone who really enjoyed DS9. Characters had so much depth, the whole thing seemed to be about them first. Because of the choice of cast it also had a bit of a theatrical side to it, in fact many of the cast had done quite a bit of theater prior to DS9.
This documentary is interesting and fun and was nice to see all those people again.
Mayans M.C. (2018)
Schoolboy's MC...
I have mixed feelings about this show, usually Sutter is a decent writer, what went wrong here? It does not seem like his writing, is it mostly written by the co-writer?
It feels like most characters lack depth somehow and most of the bikers are like actors playing bikers... Oh wait, that's what they are but anyways I do not enjoy being reminded all the time.
There's also one giant plot hole or more like a goof in there, they make a point to tell us that the Mayans story happens before Jack Teller's time, yet Chucky el Masturbator is shown as missing his fingers already, which did happen during Teller's time... How is such a goof even possible???
I'm still watching it, trying to give it a chance, I will most likely come back to update my ''review''.
After watching 6 episodes, it still feels hollow, some of the only parts with depth were the ones with Edward James Olmos , he also seems to play the only character with an interesting background. I had given this 5 stars but re-adjusted to 4 stars.
Hux (2016)
Honest and powerful.
I find it hard to review this short gem without giving away anything.
I think this is only my second review, I just needed to leave one.
Hux is a young woman faced with autism, I found that the effects that external stimuli can have on a person t times were very well represented, I myself suffer from pretty heavy social anxiety at times and some of the film brought me back to some moments.
I just found it lovely, it just makes me want to spend more time with Hux, get to know her, see how she copes, what is in her future...
Thank you, I enjoyed it.
Valhalla Rising (2009)
Wake me up someone
I find very little to say about this movie other than it's pretty empty...No real plot...Very little acting.. I guess the one good thing is some of the photography but who wants to view a 90 minutes long gallery.. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz It pretentiously wants to be something it's not, I slept through about 10 minutes of it and when I woke up I didn't feel like I missed something. I noticed that some viewers were confused about parts of that movie, I do not understand, for it to be confusion there has to be some substance.. Or maybe it's just confusingly soporific This is a hard movie to write 10 lines about..
