Nick Fury: Agent of Shield (1998 TV Movie)

David Haselhoff is Nick Fury, this movie isn't...
5 July 2006
This movie was atrocious. There, I said it. The only good part, sadly, was the Hoff. I found him to be a believable Nick Fury. Everyone else on the other hand, whoa! Boy did some of them suck. Viper? Holy cow, someone give her some anti-pyschotics. There is a difference between acting in a comic book movie and acting like a cartoon character. She was WAY over the top. I was afraid she was going to jump out of the TV and stab me with her pinky nail. She reminded me of the over acting from the Dick Tracey movie villains. And what's with her and her brother? I really kept getting that weird incest vibe from these two. I half expected them to start making out in front of their froze fathers corpse. And that English dude? WTF was up with his over the top accent? It's like they said, "be REALLY English, people will love it." It's really distracting. And speaking of distracting, was anyone else really distracted by Val's HUGE F'ing lips! Sweet Jesus, I thought Angelina Jolie had huge DSLs! I wish they'd not let some of these people's performances detract from this film like they did. I don't even really know what the story was now, but it doesn't matter. I couldn't sit through those peoples' garbage again.

Superman Returns and Apologizes for the last 2 movies...
30 June 2006
I was completely floored by this movie. I felt tingles in my body when I heard the beginning of John Williams' Superman fanfare and kept feeling them throughout the entire show. Superman Returns delivers. Brandon Routh is Superman just like Christopher Reeve was Superman and just like George Reeves was Superman. He is also Clark Kent. He is not carbon copy of Reeve's portrayal, but he IS the character. I believe he can fly. I believe he can catch an airplane. I believe he is bulletproof. Kevin Spacey was Lex Luthor. The best. Just the right mix of megalomania and psycosis. Kate Bosworth was Lois Lane. She was strong, a real woman. She didn't swoon at the sight of Superman after a 5 year absence, she just went, "Oh he's back, whatever, I have a life and it doesn't revolve around him." Bryan Singer rocked my socks off with his great composition! Long live Superman and I hope to see a few sequels.

Great Cartoon, disappointing voice acting
19 March 2006
This was a great cartoon. I remember getting up early on the weekend to catch this show. It really did well to get me into the comic books. I started buying them every chance I got.

I recently saw it on cable again and realized something: this show had some bad decisions on voice actors. The only really well cast parts were Marlowe, Spartan, Void, Zealot, and Helspont. However, Maul sounds like a big black guy when he gets large, but he is a white guy normally. Grifter sounds like a little guy trying to force a bad gruff voice. Voodoo sounds like a screechy little girl. Pike sounds like a well mannered white guy, but is supposed to be black. Choices like these didn't bother me as a kid, but now they seem odd. Maul should have been played by a gruff voiced guy like Ron Perlman. Grifter by anyone that actually sounds like a a gruff person and not someone just doing it for show. Voodoo would have been voiced well by someone with a more seductive voice (children's show I know, but in the comic she's a stripper). Pike should have been voiced by someone like Keith David (Goliath, Spawn). It's kind of distracting after having not seen the show for so long to go bad and hear the voices are wrong.

But, all in all, this was a great show that worked well and translated the comic well.

AWFUL waste of $15
11 March 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I had the displeasure of seeing this movie. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. It is the most vile piece of garbage ever.

I really don't understand how Johnny Depp could want to do this movie. His character is the most vile cretin ever imaginable. I can understand why he'd never want to see himself on the screen after this movie. By the end he looks as disgusting as he is.

The trailer was misleading. My fiancée showed me the preview and it looks like it'll have horses and sword fights and the occasional TnA. But no, the only sword "fight" involves Depp's character's friend hitting a town guard and getting piked to the gut and Depp running off and saying I told you so to the other guy's body.

Why oh why did I waste my money on this garbage? I want my $15 back.

Best Sci Fi western ever. Joss Wedon really did well when he made this show. If only it had been aired in the right order or in its entirety it may have caught on. I wish I had had a chance to see it when it was originally aired, but I was involved in school activities when it came on. After I got ahold of the DVD set, I watched it sraight through. Every episode was greatness. The only thing I didn't like was that every one I watched brought me closer to the end of the story that has no true ending. The characters are the best around. The stories were awesome. The humor was great. GREAT SHOW! I wish I could turn on the TV and sit down to Captain Mal's continued adventures, but I guess that can't ever happen. I hope Joss comes up with something of this caliber for TV again after he finishes his run on X-Men and the Wonder Woman movie. I'd really like to see some more of his highly developed worlds.
