The Witcher: Blood Origin (2022)
Another lousy rewrite
This show is yet another blantant example of how show writers and runners try to rewrite an established lore to suit what they THINK is best, based on what little, if any, knowledge they have of the original subject matter.
The Witcher was, before the TV series, a set of books. This meant that some people already had an idea, a vision of what the story should be. The challenge was to bring these ideas and visions to life. Yes, thete would be some changes due to shiw restrictions, but tryinf to keep it as close to the original idea was, and continues to be, ESSENTIAL.
This new series ignores all that ans transforms the Witcher so many have come to love into a miserable excuse for a show.
The TV universe will be a better place the moment this monstrosity is remived, buried and forgotten.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
Simply brilliant!
She-Hulk (the comic books) were always meant to be a very light-hearted run, breaking the fourth wall whenever they could. Think of She-Hulk as a PG-Rated Deadpool, and this TV adaptation is right on the money.
People are far too critical nowadays. She-Hulk is meant to be FUN, and it is. She is meant to be a realistic role model, and again she is. Both my daughter absolutely LOVE her and can't wait to see more.
As a woman, she possesses power beyond her special abilities... she's a lawyer. As a woman, she is relatable, having learned to control her anger years ago thanks to the constant social issues surrounding her.
This show is awesome and people need to get off their high horses and take it for what it is - a fun, enjoyable and relatable break from reality.
Thunder Force (2021)
Not funny, not one bit
I gave it 2 stars for nothing more than the concept. Could have been a thousand times better but let's face is Melissa McCarthy is not the greatest actress. The best she can try for is comedy and that is barely within her limited acting reach.
As for the movie itself, the plot is all over the place, the attempts at humour are beyond forced and miss the mark every time.
Watching this movie was painful. In an age of Marvel's Avengers and Justice League, this one should never have gotten off the draft board.
The Grinch (2018)
Another lousy remake
I loved the original cartoon. Grew to adore the live action remake which managed to keep the spirit and message if the original. This one fails on all fronts.
The grinch is not scary, not even a little bitty.
Cindy Lou is not cute, might have been better had she been mute.
The script was changed in the worst of ways, leaving many to wonder why waste so many days?
The voices were wrong, from start to end, so this movie I simply cannot recommend.
Sorry that I have this to say, this is not worth a minute or second of my day.
The Order: Introduction to Ethics, Part One (2019)
Why?
It is not because GoT did it and managed to make it work that every other show has to try and kill off great characters as a main part of the story.
Even if we ignore that severe lack of judgement mentioned above, the story itself took a major turn in the wrong direction when they decided to kill the ethics professor. He was a voice of reason, a key counter balance that could offer key insight into things that could have extended far beyond the narrative of the story. Instead, they decided to just kill him off for some cheep thrill.
Tales from the Loop (2020)
A stunning exploration of the impossible
A remarkable look into what truly maked sci-fi great. There is no huge space battles, no laser blasters or end-of-the-world cataclysm. This show is about ordinary people finding themselves in impossible and amazing situations. It is about the human element when pushed beyond what we believe to be the limit.
If you enjoy thinking and imaging about the endless possibilities of 'what if', this show will keep you coming back for more.
The Flash: So Long and Goodnight (2020)
Sigh... The show is called The Flash, right?
What is the use of having the title character be this useless in his own show. The writers have completely lost their creative focus, trying to tell multiple stories instead of focusing on the heart of this show, say THE FLASH.
I know I am coming across as a broken record, but they need to reboot the timeline, restore the multiverse and allow the Flash and the team return to doing what made them great. This current storyline is the pits, the characters are growing to be less and less likable. When a second-rate villan is the best part of the episode, and this mostly because if the soecial-effects, you know there is a problem.
The Flash: Grodd Friended Me (2020)
Too many changes
"3.5 BILLION changes since Crisis," Gidian sums it up in perfectly.
Crisis destroyed the multiverse and "merged" what was left into a single world and I am still waiting for someone or something to come in that will FIX THIS MESS.
Nothing about the post-crisis Flash feels right. The characters are all wrong. The plotline is all over the map. The writers ignore or rewrite powers. All of this for what?
This episode is slightly better than those that came forth since the end of crisis but it is still far from the quality the show had before. This 'it was not like this before' is beyond annoying and is make my this show unbearable to watch.
The only way to save this show is to reset the timeline prior to crisis. Anything short of that, you might as well cancel this sorry excuse for what used to be a great show.
The Flash: A Girl Named Sue (2020)
Broken mirror
Another sorry excuse to trying to pick up the pieces following the Crisis story arc. Writers grasping at straws, forgetting that this show is meant to have The Flash front and center, not feel like he is only a supporting character.
The entire show needs to reset the timeline and go back to what worked. Destroying the multiverse was just one of countless errors that need to be corrected before the show completely tanks and ends up cancelled.
The Flash: Love Is a Battlefield (2020)
Jump the shark
The Crisis story was good but it set up things in the most awful of ways. The episodes that are following are going from bad to worse. I keep expecting and hoping that something will happen to reset the board and give up the heroes and stories we loved.
We lost the entire multiverse for this??? Really! The writers are now grasping at straws, and it shows, BIG TIME!
Locke & Key (2020)
Good idea, lousy writing
Who the hell is writing these episodes? This is not a case of the good guys trying to win against evil, this is nothing more than 10 episodes of the protagonists making one stupid decision after another and getting their proverbial rear-ends handed to them time and time again.
By mid-season you actually stop rooting for the good guys because you know they will end up on the losing side. The plot twists are seen coming a mile away and only push this "impossible to win" scenario into the ground. What is the point of watching this if all you get is one defeat after another? Even when the writers try to make you think the good guys finally won something, they immediately take it away.
Apparently, writing a happy ending, or anything that remotely comes near it is not something that is done now a days.
Another Life (2019)
Bad across the board
Good idea but the way is was given form stinks. The conflicts amongst the crew are way out of place for the importance of their mission. The Chief Engineer acts like a child more than she actually is. A young female engineer has been bone before (Kaylee from Firefly) but one could be counted upon to be a solid addition to the crew, the other seems to be waiting for her parents to show up. I was unable to enjoy the story due to the complete lack of chemistry of the crew, and the inter-personal side stories just made things worse.
The Orville: The Road Not Taken (2019)
Time travel part II
If the previous episode was brilliant, this one is even better. The perfect conclusion to a two-part story arc.
Found the musical score and several of the visuals to be very familiar and taken from a completely different franchise. In no way did it take away from the episode, in fact, I would say that it made it much better. I will you be the judge of that.
The Orville: Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow (2019)
Time travel twists
Every sci-fi shows does the time travel thing, but this one was enjoyably different. Absolutely loved it.
Captain Marvel (2019)
A truly enjoyable and multifaceted movie
Where should I start? Captain Marvel gives us an all powerful being who is still very much human, especially in the fact that she doesn't know the extent of her own limits. Carol Denver's is strong, fierce, a perfect female role model while at the same time showing us that her emotions are part of what makes her who she is.
Goose is a riot who deserves his own movie, but I digress. Captain Marvel manages to keep a light-hearted approach to some very serious issues. Betrayal and mental abuse are only a few of the issues addressed on a much deeper level, something that I understand will turn some viewers off as this requires them to actually think about what they have seen or heard.
This movie is not an orgy of action and battle scenes. It is not a linear story that can be followed while half asleep. It is a remarkable piece if writing and acting that takes the origin of the character to a whole new level. We understand her motivation, her reasoning and learn in the process that there is no such thing as a black or white universe.
Captain Marvel is a force to be feared and respected. A woman who proves to anyone in her way that she can dish it out better than anyone else, all while remaining caring towards others.
Whatever the final say will be of those who cannot look beyond the multi-layer story, this movie will be for me a must show to my girls. No matter who tells them "you can't", I hope that this movie will show them that with strength and determination, they will in the end prove them all wrong.
