Ray Donovan (2013)
Such a let down
After initially hearing good reviews of this show i was eager to check it out, so before buying it i checked a few trailers and admittedly i was impressed. I was also impressed by the cast, I've always liked Liev Schreiber work. Sadly Liev Schreiber isn't enough to save this show though.
I don't know where the blame lies, is it the actors or the characters? After getting into the first few episodes it amazed me just how bad Paula Malcomson and Jon Voight actually are in this show. Am i missing something? Does Paula Malcomson's character have bipolar in the show? Is she happy? is she sad? is she angry? you just can't seem to tell. Simply put her actions are terribly erratic in the show and just don't seem to make sense at times that coupled with her poor portrayal of emotion and facial expressions just make for a slightly uneasy and annoying performance. That being said John Voight should never EVER be allowed to act, who ever put him in this acting role and set this role up for him should be fired and sent away and banished from the acting world never to be seen again. A 60+ year old plastic gangster who is out of touch in seemingly ever way possible doesn't make for easy viewing. Again i don't know if it's poor acting or poor characters but Paula Malcomson and Jon Voight's roles do seem to make the show un-watchable at times, for me anyway they're that annoying. On the plus i really do enjoy Liev Schreiber in this and particularly like Steven Bauer and Katherine Moennig in the show.
For me they don't seem to make up for how poor Paula Malcomson and Jon Voight are in it, mainly based on the fact how big the parts they have are. In the end i'm really glad i didn't have to buy this and it's only my time that I've lost and i wouldn't even attempt Season 2.
P.s i forgot to mention, if you're feeling down or a little low/upset just go and listen to Paula Malcomson's accent it should definitely bring a laugh or a sarcastic smile and shake of the head to you.
Showgirls (1995)
Hideous, just hideous
Is the only way I can describe Elizabeth Berkley's so-called acting in this film!. The acting plummets from the moment she pulls out a knife and gives her best angry face in the first two minutes, the acting gets so cheesy it makes Jedward look like a formidable act. I know I seem far too critical but seriously at times the acting gets THAT bad you start feeling awkward, about as awkward when you watch a film with your parents and a nude scene pops up. I just think that the whole film is ruined by Elizabeth's poor acting and cheesy child like mood swings and hissy fits. The dancing looks awful Elizabeth is constantly looking stiff, angry and robotic. If you're looking for a cheap B list movie and a bit of skin then this may be the film for you but be warned the painful part is having to sit through watching it.
