Teyzem (1986)
It's a great film
I had opportunity to watch this film several times on TV. Each time it was able to capture me. The story is very realistic and touchy. It is so successful at telling hypocritical morality of a conservative "Turkish family. The pressure implied on women for keeping family honor" whereas conniving mistreatment of those women. Such mistreatment lead Uftade, the youngest daughter of the family and the aunt of the story teller- become schizophrenia over years. The film also allow us to observe the daily life of a low income Turkish family in early 1980s, see appearances of the country from those years and lead to nostalgia. All players are so successful.
Memoirs of a Geisha (2005)
Language problem
I just saw this film. I very much liked the music and the scenes. However, the language really annoyed me. I would enjoy it much more if the movie was in Japanese with Turkish sub-titles (It was in English with Turkish subtitles). If the film were in Japanese, we had a chance to hear how Japanese sounds like. Isn't it a very nice way of learning about other cultures and languages? But of course, since Americans do not like watching films with sub-titles the film was made in broken-English of non-American actors. It was very funny hearing Japanese people in kimonos speaking in English among themselves and from time to time saying Japanese words like "arigatto".
I am afraid that new American generations is growing up with the image that English is in the only language in the world, however other nations can not speak it well for some reason(because they are inferior or something like that). Is it only me who is curious about different languages and loves to hear them when native people are speaking? Movies are great way of hearing the languages, don't you think so?
Výlet (2002)
Lovely film about interpersonal relations and family
I watched the film years ago at Bursa Festival. It is a lovely film. It has a very interesting and entertaining story. The actors are very good.
Here is the story: A family travels Czech Republic and Slovakia in order to bury the cremated remains of their grand-father since the grand-mother tells that this was his last request. Three generations (grand-mother, daughters, son-in-laws, grandchildren, a stuffed rabbit) travels in two automobiles. It begins as a boring travel...There are generation gaps, personnel problems and quarrels between all family members and nobody except the grand-mother is willing to make this trip. Hoewever, the 2 days they spend together turns to be the most unforgettable days of their lives...
Trouble (2005)
Problem with the story
The film has a very interesting story. I found all players very successful. However, i think there were 2 points in the story which i could not understand: 1- At the beginning we had the impression that when Matyas was together with Elina in the dark room, Thomas went to Matyas's home and beat his wife. Then we find out that Elina and Thomas were same persons. Therefore, how could Thomas be in 2 different places ? 2- When Manyas went to Thomas's home for the first time, he met with Elina there. At that time, Thomas had been to Manyas's home and met with his wife. Again, how could this be possible?
Is there something i was missing?
The Journey of August King (1995)
The film has a strong moral message to give to the viewer.
The film has a strong moral message to give to the viewer. It raises a question on the mind: is it enough to be a person working for the well-being of himself and family in a honest way in order to be considered to be a good, honorable man? The answer is no. It is not acceptable to condone the cruelty or injustice of others, a conscientious man should fight against them.
At the very beginning of the film, there is a scene where a man kills his wounded dog. August King would like to stop him, but he did nothing, just turned back go his own way....At the end of the film he tells that he won't be the man he was used to be...i think he meant such situations...During his journey, August King turned to be a man who would not hesitate to break the rules to do whatever he thinks it is right to do.
In sum, the film is something much more than a love story and i very much liked it.
