La mesita del comedor (2022)
The darkest commedy I've ever seen? Sure!
Wow. This movie was a rollercoaster of emotions and impressions. The main protagonist gets in a situation that I do not understand anyone could comprehend and he then tries to brush it over and go about the day, until his brother starts asking questions and then it comes to light what happened. The second the thing happend I was in shock because you don't really expect this outcome whatsoever. You think the director is not going to break the "golden rule". Well he did and it came out in an excellent movie that will shock your for the duration of the movie and you will most certainly not forget this insane flix.
Lady Macbeth (2016)
Thought provoking period drama
Lady Macbeth is a provoking movie about a woman that is sold and married to a man that she really do not love. She is told to stay indoors and "do what is asked of her". It shows very clearly how partriarical the 1800s where and how women were seen as objects for men. Katherine is a very interesting character that I feel is very fleshed out, and one that will do whatever she has to do to get what she wants. Movies like this always provoke me, I truly hate to see women being treated this bad, just because of their sex. We still have a road to go when it comes to equality but at least it's a bit better in the western world. But remember that women are still treated this way in many countries around the world.
A truly amazing movie. I would also suggest watching another movie that Florence Pugh stars in: The Wonder (2022), a truly great movie, and like this movie, also a period drama.
Next Exit (2022)
It was worth it!
I didn't really think this was going to be a good film seeing as the premis presented wasn't interesting or groundbreaking at all, but I found it to be a very good story about being desperate and to try find a way out of a horrible mental situation where the two protagonist is willing to basically commit suicide to be "part of something great", or to be able to talk with dead relatives. It's a really emotional rollercoaster that is worth watching.
The characters is really written good and they meet themself in the door as one might day. Totally worth watching, just ignore the whole storyline with ghost and whatnot it's more of a metaphor I feel than anything.
Kimitachi wa dô ikiru ka (2023)
Magical
Hayao Miyazaki have done it again. His movies always touch me deeply and so did The Boy and the Heron. I've been a big fan of Studio Ghibli my whole life ever since I watched Spirited Away along with many other movies from their universe. It baffels me how amazing they are to create these movies. There is truly no one other than Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli that comes close to their storytelling. Their movies always feel so alive and with good reason. Go watch this on the big screen if you can, I'm very happy I did. But the great thing about their movies is that it works everywhere. If you don't catch it in cinema watch it when it comes out in another media.
The Devil on Trial (2023)
Fabrication and that's what all these "hunted" cases are
I was pleasantly supprised by this documentary as it clearly shows that the whole case was in fact fabricated. I've through my own life had experience with people claiming to be psychic and in fact the whole thing is based on their egos and them imagine and making things up for their own profit.
The part where thd mother in the family actually seems to have been giving her family sleeping pills trough the food is shocking to say the least. Using a defence of the "devil made me do it" is so insane and idiotic that it had to have come from people that had something to gain from the situation. The documentary also tells us that Loraine Warren talks about murder to the police and probably also the family before it even happened. She basicly gave the murder in the case an alibi he could use in the case before he commited the murder. It's just insane.
It's great of the creators of the documentary to give us a realistic picture of the case and that it's all been fabricated.
Tin Star (2017)
Great show
This series reminds me a lot of Hell on Wheels, Justified and other dramas like them. I really think it's a great show and I'm so happy I started to watch it.
I've read that there is a few people that was very critical to this show but I dunno why. Maybe it just don't float like they like.
Either way the cast is amazing and Tim Roth plays perfect as he always dose.
The story is intriguing and heavy just the way I like it. It's really worth a shot if you like these types of dramas and a good story. I feel like it's not milked the way som tv series are, three seasons are just enough for this one.
Enjoy!
Ich seh, Ich seh (2014)
Shocking and creepy
Ich seh, Ich seh or Goodnight Mommy as it's known in english is a very powerful movie about two boys that comes home to their mother. The mother have just been in a facial surgery and the kids soon start to think that it's not really their mother anymore.
I feel the movie shows very well what child psychopathy might look like and it's a terrifying tale of how this child essentially try to figure out if this is his mom or not. It seems like he is also struggling from schizophrenia, or is this just the child imagination? I'm not totally sure to be honest.
This version is far more brutal than the new movie starring Naomi Watts. But i liked both of them.
Goodnight Mommy (2022)
Alright remake
I have yet to see the original austrian movie but i found this movie very good.
It is a very unsettling and quite frankly scary movie from a psychological perspective.
Imagine if you were to come back home as a child and all of a sudden you didn't feel like your mom really is who she says she is. She's covered in a mask so because of a plastic operation and you simply start feeling that she really is not your mom and that someone else might have taken her place. Maybe have she had some changes in her personality since you last saw her? It's a thought provoking feeling.
I'm going to watch the original movie now to see how different it is. But i don't mind this movie.
Edit: So i did watch the orignal movie and it was sure something wlse than this remake. But i think the new movie is much more accessible to more people where as the orignal is far more brutal. I have to say I like both versions and I don't mind them making a new one when it was this good. But anyway if you would like to see a more brutal version go ahead and watch the original Austrian movie. If you like less gore then the 2022 version is more for you.
Resurrection (2022)
Powerfull.
This movie was masterfully directed and the cinematography was stunning. The acting was just totally amazing from everyone if the cast.
This is one of the most painful movies I have seen in a good while. You really feel for the protagonist and her issues facing her past as she meets the psychopath that destroyed her teens years and now want to again take control and manipulate her again.
Tim Roth plays a convincing psychopath coming back for his prey. He plays this role so convincingly that I was shouting at the screen multiple times for Rebecca Halls character to kill him. I wanted to see him suffer after all the mentally abuse she went through.
This is definitely on my list for favorite film of the year. It made me cry and few movies ever do.
Memento (2000)
Simply Amazing.
I've been wanting to see this movie as I'm a big Nolan fan. It did not disappoint, not at all!
From the cinematography to music this was a great watch. The story keeps you on your toes untill the very end. The way it's filmed and cut together might make you want to see it once more to get the whole point. I might just do that one day as well.
Love the characters. If i would say whay charachter other than the main character i loved i would have to say Natalie and Teddy. But to be honest every character and actor was amazing.
A must see movie if you like puzzling movies like Inception or Shutter Island.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
Horrible characters and story. Pretty good at gore
I really did not like this movie. The gore was pretty good but the story and characters where just so disapointing.
I watched the original on cinema a few years ago. Me and my friend was really laughing trough the movie because it was just not scary and it really had not aged that well in my opinion. But i really liked the concept of it and i feel like this movie just trashes it. It was gory as hell but what is gore without a good underlying story?
I have to say the gore is superb in this film. With loads of good shots troughout and i think that's the only thing that was good in this one. Was it scary? Not at all.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Okay comedy but to long.
Funny movie but I feel it could have been much shorter as it became very long to sit and watch this to the end. They could have cut about 30 minutes of this movie and it would have been better IMO.
Ambulance (2022)
Alright action flix with some plot holes
I saw this yesterday and I enjoyed it quite a bit. I had seen some reviews beforehand and I think they might have been to critical. It's one of the Michael Bay movies I have liked the most. I'm not the biggest action fan but this was pretty fun.
The filmography was really stunning and I found most actors to really do great job in this film.
If you're unsure that you're going to like this film do yourself a favor and just go and watch it.
One critical thing I can say about the movie is that I would love for it to have some calm moments in between all of it.
L'immortale (2019)
Ciro L'immortale
Ciro is alive after getting shot by Genny and now he has to flee to Latvia to be secure. There he meets a man that brought him into this world.
This was truly a great spin-off that give us more background story about Ciro. It is a sad tale about a kid that loses his mother during a earthquake and ends up with the wrong people who get him into criminal acttivites. We see this in flash backs.
Gomorra (2008)
Meaningless violence in paradise
Gomorra is based on Roberto Saviano book by the same name.
We are shown 5 different stories with similar endings and most of them end in tragedy.
A kid that can't even be more than 12 is working for his mom delivering groceries, ends up being involved in the killing of one of his customers after getting involved with the mob.
We see the inside of a illegal taylor business and how one of the employees almost gets killed because he takes a job for one of the competitors. The three others in the car was not so lucky.
Two teenagers that don't seem to understand the consequences of robbing and stealing from the mob and other business gets lured and killed.
Don Ciro delivers money to people that used to work for or are related to the local mob, we see how competitors force him to help them kill people of his clan to save his own.
It's a masterpiece of a movie that truly shows a realistic, gritty and disgusting portrait of the naples camorra.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
Mixed bag
This movie is great in some ways, while in others it fails fall out.
James Wan is know for making movies scary by building up tension and then releasing it on to you. This movie do the exact opposite with cheap jump scares. If you are looking for a a scary movie this is really not what you are looking for. However if you are looking for a horror with a great story you have come to the right place. While the horror of the film is very basic and not scary at all the story is great. I really loved the pace and the overall feeling of the film with the exceptions of the jump scares.
The cinematography was very good and the music and sound was also excellent.
I would recommend this to anyone that loved the stories of the previous installments of The conjuring but just remember this is not a James Wan movie. Don't have to high hopes going into this movie because then you will be left disappointed. But if you rather let it be on It's own terms then i think you will enjoy it.
The Hunt (2020)
It's ****ing great
This was a blast to watch. If you are fan of all out bat s**t crazy violence that also happens to be really funny you have come to the right place.
The lead actor is amazing, so is the rest of them.
La mafia uccide solo d'estate (2016)
Amazing series
I'm blown away by how good this series is. It's truly amazing how the acting, script and everything in between are so good.
The series follows Salvatore Giammaresi and his family in Sicily in the 1980s. We see Salvatore going to school and all the issues that follows, we also follow his mom Pia and Lorenzo and their struggle in a city where you cannot live "normal" without connections. It get's clear from the get-go that Sicily is not a easy place to live, at least not in the 1980 with the mafia corrupting the city.
We are witness to Lorenzo having to determine if he should report a crime he has been witnessed to or not, if he do it might have reputations for his family,
There is so much beauty and love that has gone into this series that it's just amazing.
I would with my full hearth recommend this series to anyone.
The Family Stone (2005)
Family drama with a touch of humor
I've watched this movie many times with my family, we kinda have a thing where we watch this every Christmas. One thing we would agree on is how similar the family we see in this movie are to the ones in our real life.
I read read some reviews here about this movie not capturing a realistic picture of a family, and that it was so dysfunctional but that was from my point of view the whole point of the movie.
A fiance are coming to meet her soon to be husbands family. Of course there will be awkward, and some times in these situations you are not welcome, or feel welcome. I think they portrayed it perfectly.
From a person that have been in a dysfunctional family all my life i can say this movie is on point.
As for comedy... There is some in this movie, but i think the broader part of this movie is a drama about how some family's just don't function all that well.
Some times its refreshing to see a drama where everyone is not perfect, where you see that yes people have issues. For that i think this movie is a great one for that.
I have as said watched this many times and i still love it. And hate it cause it reminds me of the dysfunctional family I'm in, but you know what? It's good to see that you're not alone in this world with just that.
Manhunt (2017)
Great series about one of the most known terrorist
This series is maybe one of the greatest Netflix has made to date.
It's stunning and shocking.
And to be fair, you get sympathy with Ted Kaczynski. He is in a world where he does not belong. He's a man that do not function in the society in which he lives. He believed that the society at one point will cease to exist if it doesn't stop it's industrialize.
You will come to see that Ted wasn't that crazy after all.
