Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
A fine action movie
I think I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't seen Fury Road. But since I had seen Fury Road, I constantly kept thinking of it and comparing this prequel to that movie. I know it isn't fair and I shouldn't do that but this is the problem with remakes and prequels; you will compare them to the original. And when the original is a classic or just an amazing movie, the remake or prequel doesn't stand a chance.
And where you can expect remakes to sometimes do their own thing and change the story, you don't have that possibility with prequels. So, when you are watching a prequel to a movie you've already seen, you know a lot of the things that are going to happen and that inevitably lessens the tension and excitement. You know who will probably die, and who will survive based on whether they play a role later on or not. And if a character is missing a limb in the other movie, you are constantly waiting for them to lose it somehow.
Unfortunately, unsurprising plot developments aren't the only problem I had with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. I also kept being reminded of the awesome amount of practical effects and stunts in Fury Road whenever I saw a CGI explosion on screen. Watching Fury Road you could see and feel that a lot of it was done practically on location and enhanced with CGI, where you could also tell that in Furiosa it was mostly just CGI and that the footage was shot on stage. And a lot of it simply felt overindulgent.
It wasn't all bad though as I still thought it was a fine action flick and I must admire George Miller for making movies like this at his age. This movie is very well made, and Chris Hemsworth is a particular highlight. He was very fun and entertaining in his role as the seemingly goofy antagonist who can be stupid and selfish but also displays hints that there might be more to his character than meets the eye.
God Bless America (2011)
I wanted to like it more than I actually did
When I first read the description of this film I knew I had to see it. And after seeing it, I have to say that... I didn't love it. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed the film quite a bit but I just fidn't love it, like I hoped I would.
The main character, Frank's opinions and point of view are very relatable. Especially if you hate modern popular culture of reality tv shows full of narcissists and hate mongering idiots who spout off stupid speeches either to make money or because they are just crazy and stupid. And the character of Roxy is a fun and entertaining teen sidekick to Frank. Both actors do great job in portraying these characters whose views you can often relate to.
However, at certain points the film gets a bit too preachy with its message and it seems like it loses some momentum and becomes a bit directionless as it goes on. But I did still enjoy it regardless, and would recommend this film to anyone who reads the description and thinks that they might enjoy it.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
In the True Multiverse of Madness
I heard good things about this film and was curious to see it. I finally did and wow, what a film! It has imagination, action, comedy and drama. And the film juggles all of these things very well. But what most surprised me is the fact that this film also has a lot of heart and can make you laugh and cry almost simultaneously. I highly recommend.
Animal Soccer World (2005)
Wow, just... Wow!
This "game", this damn "game"... It needs to be seen to be believed! It is simply amazing! Trying to list everything that is wrong with this thing would take too long so I'm not even going to bother going into detail with this. Besides no words can do this thing real justice. As I said it needs to be seen to be believed! So go watch it! But be prepared for the fact it's not really a game (it's not even an animated film if I'm being entirely honest) and I'm not sure what to call it but it's definitely not an actual game.
If it was a real game I probably wouldn't have even bothered with it as I'm not into games but since I knew that it was going to be closer to an animated film I decided to check it out as I love all of the so-bad-they're-actually-good films like The Room, Birdemic and all of these Dingo Pictures/Phoenix Games products that are marketed as "games" but barely qualify as "animated films" even.
However this thing takes the cake on all of these so-bad-they're- good films (at least when it comes to animated films) for me personally since it's so ineptly put together. First of all it has probably only one guy doing all the voices (without a script and improvising all the lines!) and the sound editing is all over the place with lines not even matching characters' mouth movements and sometimes there are lines uttered when there is no character on screen at all! And other times there are characters clearly speaking but nothing is actually being said. On top of that the backgrounds are completely static and sometimes only parts that are animated at all are the characters' heads/mouth while the rest of their bodies are part of the background drawings.
And if that isn't enough for you then there's also the fact that the lines, the story and the setting make absolutely no sense at all! Even when you compare this thing to other stuff made by Dingo Pictures it's just awful! And it's hard to believe that something like this was made in 2005!
So in summation, animation sucks, dubbing sucks, writing sucks, character designs suck and none of it makes much sense. I give this flick 10/10! Simply for being damn enjoyable!
So if you're like me and enjoy awful movies that are so bad that they make you laugh at how bad they are then you need to see this one. You don't even have to look far as it's available online so don't worry about having to hunt down the actual PS2 disc that this film was released on. And even if you could get your hands on a physical copy, no matter how cheaply, DO NOT waste your money on this piece of garbage! People who made this film deserve nothing for this lazily put together "game". So definitely check this one out online, it'll be worth it to see one of the absolutely laziest "animated films" ever made!
I'll end this review here so that you can go watch this asap. Have fun!
