The Outfit (2022)
Great movie for all but the last 10 minutes
I really enjoyed this movie and tentatively gave it a 7. Until the last ten minutes. Absolutely stupid. So I gave it a 5. Don't waste your time or money.
During the movie they had some unpredicted twists and turns which made the story quite interesting. But. For some reason the writers decided to add one last final twist which was just totally silly. And then to top that off just when you thought that the whole disaster was over they add a little bit more of a twist. C'mon guys!!
The actors are fine and all play their parts. The directing is also fine. As is the cinematography. But .... The story line just absolute fails at the end.
Maria by Callas (2017)
Maybe the first review I've written.
This documentary just brought tears to my eyes and love to my heart. It's fabulous. I just loved it!
I love opera and have sung at the sydney opera house in the choir but this documentary just moved me so much.
You have to watch it it. The "personal" conversations with Maria Callas were wonderful. I'm back to Spotify to listent to some of my old opera favourites.
Her life is like an opera tragedy and I knew this but listening to her was just out of this world.
I kept using Shazam to find out if I could listen to the music later. And of course I can!
The production was great. The continued use of the David Frost interview was very very done.
I have always loved Maria Callas but this lifted my interest and admiration tenfold.
La dernière folie de Claire Darling (2018)
Absolute garbage
I have been in love with Catherine Deneuve all my life. I cannot imagine why she got involved with this absolute rubbish movie. Sorry. The plot is absolutely infantile. The characters are even worse. I o would normally have switched off but I really tried to watch. Big mistake.
Hacker (2016)
What a dreadful joke
The movie was OK until I saw "Z". The worst piece of makeup I have ever ever seen. What were they thinking? I just don't know why they covered this guy with brown sill putty. Silly really.
The story is OK as far as it goes. A bit over the top but that's OK. There is enough to get interested until you see Z.
The 39 Steps (2008)
A disgrace
Absolute drivel. The only resemblance between this rubbish and the book or the early movie is the name. Rubbish.
They have lost all the mystery of the "39 steps".
Right from the beginning it is leaves the John Buchan story. There is no interplay between Scudder and Hannay over a number of days. Just murder within minutes.
Where did the girl come from. Holllywoid claptrap.
Where is all the drama of the different chases???
It wasn't the Archduke Ferdinand hat was assassinated in the story. It was someone from Turkey who was murdered in London.!
I cannot believe that they tried to call this 39 Steps!,,
Les Misérables (1998)
Absolute Rubbish
Hollywood ruins the classics. The only thing it has in common with the greatest novel of the 19th century is some of the characters names are the same!!!
Whole chapters are missed.
Key facts like the following are hopelessly turned around:
Valjean could read in the novel. Not in the movie. Valjean did realize who the bishop was in the novel he certainly did not hit him.
I can understand leaving whole sections out like the details of Battle of Waterloo but so much is left out that the story is comic book like and the characters meaningless.
