Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
Another Zack snorefest
Zack does it again, another overlong movie that has zero character development, near enough no original story and completely devoid of some kind of emotion which seems surprising when the whole point is that the team should form the soul of the movie.
Visually the movie looks pretty good, some of the blending with reality could of been better as it looked very obvious that it was mostly cg.
If you are a fan of Zacks style you'll likely give it a 10, but if you have seen movies by pretty much anyone else then i imagine you will be in the generous 4-5 territory.
Pretty lifeless affair overall. Not sure i could be bothered to watch the 2nd part.
Too obviously intended as a star wars film but what they didnt say was that it was written in the style of Attack of the clones, only inferior.
The Stand (2020)
Horrible in its original format....watch the edit
The original cut of this was horrid but mostly in the way it was edited and layed out to us, with some needless chunks.
But if you are a fan of the story try to fan edit that is out there. Completely rebuilt to more closely resemble a linear story, cuts out a lot of the needless stuff and just tells a much more comprehensible story.
I don't know why they chose to go the route they originally went, but thankful someone took on such a passion project to show how all the good work from cast and crew. It really is very watchable in the new format and really enjoyed it much more than i did from the original edit which i gave up a couple of episodes in.
Cowboy Bebop (2021)
Shame it didn't get given a proper chance, fun show.
I actually really enjoyed this show, have watched it through a couple of times. Its the kind of fun action sci fi show we don't get much of anymore. Would have loved to have seen a second season.
Great performances all round, i'll go against the grain and say that Pineda was awesome and brought a lot of balance to the trio.
I cancelled my Netflix subscription not long after this as they just keep cancelling good shows after a season and yet other much worse shows just go on for what feels like forever.
At least the season was fairly self contained and rounded out the main arc, even if it did end on a somewhat sour note.
Shame no other network was willing to pick it up, it had a lot of potential.
Black Adam (2022)
It can only get better, right?
Another disappointing and lacklustre DC film. Kinda hope this is the last film under the old leadership team as it seems to fit well with the existing dcu, in that it is all a bit dull with cruddy villians and cringeworthy scripts. Dwayne biggest asset is not his body but his personality and that really had little room to shine here. Hopefully the next outing under new leadership will take us somewhere better. Rather than being the restart of the dcu it feela like it should be the end.
Mid credits scene was probably the highlight for me. I liked the Justice team on the whole in the movie all the other characters were pretty bland and annoying especially the kid and his mum.
Resident Evil (2022)
Worst addition to the franchise
Easily the worst part of the Resident Evil universe, and thats saying something, as there have been many highs and lows (increasingly low so). Not sure how this even got the go ahead, absolute drivel. Poor everything.
The Bob's Burgers Movie (2022)
Bob's burgers the really long episode
Love BB. But this was expecting more of a story line for a movie edition in a new location. If this was like a 3 part episode then it is fine, but didnt work as a movie. Not particularly funny compared to other episodes from the show either.
The Bubble (2022)
Really wanted to like it, but couldnt sit through it
Started off with a couple of good laughs but by halfway through i just couldnt sit through any more. The thought of sitting through an additional hour filled me with dread. Save your time and watch something else.
Cyberpunk 2077 (2020)
Minimal bug experience on ps5. But pretty short.
I actually went in with some apprehension, but was surprised by minimal exposure to bugs. Sure there are plenty of options for making it a more bussling city it did feel a bit bare at times. Missions and main story were pretty fun, only major letdown for me was that the game felt incredibly short. It had barely got going when you reach the point of new return. Was expecting to be playing it for weeks not 3 or 4 days.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
Fairly average
Big fan of casting and JG. But this felt forced throughout, pacing was a little odd at timed and just somehow missed the mark for me. First watch i probably give it a 7, but a subsequent watch was lesss appealing and feel unlikely to watch again or at least anytime soon so dropping to 5/6.
Jungle Cruise (2021)
Really enjoyed it
For those that like 90's fun action adventure films this is a great, is it a cinema masterpiece, well no and it isnt meant to be. Did it pass would i watch it again test? Yes for sure.
Great soundtrack from James Newton Howard.
Mortal Kombat (2021)
Finish it........it was a struggle
Follows the trend of Street fighter, Teken, old MK movie and DOA have all set in being god awful. Save yourself a couple of hours and watch something else, like paint drying.
Those giving it 9 or 10 are out of your minds. That is like saying it is one of the best films you have ever seen.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
More of the same....much much more
Better than the 2017 version, but not by a mile. Major pieces are the same, lots of filler and a pace that will send you to sleep in the first 2 hours. Not a fan of how it is constructed, feels very disjointed in places.
Goes from a 3 to a 5. Are the people putting 10 seriously saying this is the best film they have ever seen?
Glad the fans got to see the original vision though.
Shadow in the Cloud (2020)
Good acting but the film is just bad
Chloe really needs to work on finding a better agent. Good actress, but terrible film choices.
Film was complete nonsense, lots of story arcs non relating or going anywhere fast. Save your 1hr10 and do anything else..
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Can see why it went straight to hbo max
Overall pretty lacklustre, enjoyed the first one a lot more. The test of any movie is, will i watch it again? No, not in this case.
Doom Patrol (2019)
1st season great, 2nd season ...urk
Really enjoyed first season, second season is a mess though. Really struggling through it, will be hard to support a third season.
Deadly Class (2018)
Great show, cliffhanger ending
We really enjoyed this show. Bewarned though you will get no resolution at the end at all. Massive end of season cliffhanger....then no more. Real shame.
Mulan (2020)
Fantastic
First good remake. Great camera and costume work, very enjoyable. Highly recommend.
The 1 and 2 srar reviews need to get out more. If your childhoods have been ruined, then couldnt of been much to note to start with.
The Old Guard (2020)
Pretty mediocre
Borrows heavily from Highlander without really developing its own flare. Theron was best person in it everyone else screamed low budget tv movie.
Warrior Nun (2020)
How did anyone enjoy this?
Pretty horrible show. Was hopeful and watched half the season, writing is absolutely terrible with horrible voice over. Just painful to watch, couldnt stick with it.
Jim Jefferies: Intolerant (2020)
Ouch
Big fan of Jims work over the years, this is well below his usual standard.
Artemis Fowl (2020)
It wasnt so bad
I havent read the books, so not outraged they werent reflected word for word. The film overall was an ok afternoon movie. Didnt really go anywhere and not much happened (they only leave the house in the last 10 minutes). Cast were fine for the most parts, main failing was Artemis, kid just couldnt act and had no personality to drive it along. If you havent read the books and kids want a movie for 90 minutes then it is worth a view. Just dont get your hopes up for much, doubt the sequel they was setting up will ever happen.
Bad Boys for Life (2020)
Just bad
Whatever magic they had previously seems to have dried up with age and left a husk of a franchise. A 5 is generous, those giving it tens are either paid, delusional or in desperate need to see some good movies.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Great end to the saga
Fantastic movie, best of the new trilogy and in top 3 of the 9. I honestly dont understand the lower reviews, what did you want? I dont think anything would of pleased them, im sure most havent even watched it.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Well i loved it
Whats up wth the fanboy bs? Was a decent sequel to T2, really enjoyed the change up in story approach and stepping away from being boxed into a John Connor corner (i mean they have told that story over and over, where else could they take it?). Great to have Linda back in it, she has always been the heart and soul of these films for me and not John. Lots of fun, all cast were great. Make your own minds up on it and go see it.
Hellboy (2019)
David Harbour was the sole redeeming factor
All 3 stars are for Davids portrayal of Hellboy. The rest of the movie was an absolute mess, terrible acting (everyones accents were so bad), CGI was awful, Script was awful, Directing was all over the place, Sasha Lane was dreadful (seriously who thought she could act?)
Save your time and watch the original two, despite their age they are far more enjoyable experiences. Is a real shame as I wanted to like this movie, just not much redemption to be had here. Would like to see Harbour return to the role though, but with some major changes to cast and helm.
