Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
Slow, boring, unbelievable
What do you get when producing a movie in slow motion half the time? That's right, a very slow movie. I was hoping for a Guy Ritchie in space, with a few touches of Kill Bill. And the atmosphere of Dune. It's all of that kind of, but failed. It's not witty, exciting or epic. It's incredibly slow, with long dragging scenes and awful dialogue. Most of what is happening or said is unbelievable. Why the whole village suddenly there, as if it's one person? Because it's convenient. Why are their beds separated by see-through curtains? Most of this movie doesn't make sense and it takes a great deal of perseverance to get to the better part of it. No they should remake this movie and do it better, using actual writing that is proven to be good.
Assassin's Creed II (2009)
One of the most defining games ever made
I'm playing it through right now and I'm still so amazed by how good it is. The storytelling, the plot, the voice acting, intrigue, it's all so good. The different kind of missions tie the story seamlessly together. It's true the gameplay has certainly improved in many ways throughout subsequent games (like fast traveling, hiding in bushes and whistling). But the simplicity is part of the reason why I love this game so much and I absolutely disregard AC Valhalla. The city building in this game is beautiful, filled with people, opportunities and obstacles, so much more than in sequels. Ezio and Desmond are perhaps the first and last characters within the entire the AC universe that I truly effortlessly rooted for.
Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
Very entertaining and beautiful
I thought it was a very entertaining movie with gorgeous animation and music. It uses a mix of cliche and original ideas, which makes it familiar enough to be easy to watch, but original enough to make you curious. I loved the world and culture building and I somehow find myself craving more of it. The story, setting and characters would make for a excellent adventure video game, combining Uncharted gameplay with God of War interaction with the environment, and perhaps turn-based combat would suit it well... Anyway, just an enjoyable movie with great animations, music, world building, voice cast and characters.
Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Better than Ahsoka
Not sure what all the hate is about. Just watched it for the first time after watching the (boring) Ahsoka finale and man o man, I was on the edge of my seat! In my opinion, much better and much more "Star Wars" than Ahsoka. It's got a strong Jedi: Fallen Order / Survivor feel to it (aside from the literal references), which personally couldn't excite me more. That and references to the Clone Wars ties this series nicely with other material in the canon, I think. A few elements of a psychological thriller were thrown in here and there, making Obi-Wan's experience post-Order66 more realistic. Loving Owen. Gotta give little Leia credit for her performance. Recommended for Star Wars fans!
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (2023)
Right in the feels, I can't even
I thought JFO was a wonderful story, I was absolutely loving Cal Kestis as a young Jedi character, figuring himself out. In Survivor he has become one bad ass Jedi: I'm eating his character arc up. He truly is one of my favorite SW characters ever. The story is action packed, tense and emotional. No spoilers, but I'm not even finished and I already feel I should get some therapy to help me cope. I've yelped and screamed and cried out loud at the TV more than once. For me at least, it's an immersive experience.
The game itself is beautiful, the gameplay is diverse and the combat makes me feel like an absolute rebel Jedi, which is super entertaining.
I do wish there was more variety in destinations, to organically take you to most corners of the maps.
And I also wish there was more significant rising action in the middle part of the story. There's a lot of action at the start and at the climax, but in between it felt kind of repetitive to me, going back and forth playing fetch between two worlds. It does all make sense, but I would have liked some more holy-hell events in between.
Doesn't prevent me from loving this game though, and I'm definitely replaying it once I finish!
