Lie to Me (2008)
Very Good Film
I saw Lie to Me at the Newport Beach Film Festival. The film was about the complicated relationships between 20-something professionals. The dialogue and situations were very true to life. Courtney Ford and Steve Sandvoss play the leads and were excellent. I had never seen Ford or Sandvoss perform before and I was quite impressed. Brandon Routh, best known for playing the lead in Superman Returns, had a slightly smaller role but was also quite good. The supporting cast, which included Nick Wechsler and Shoshana Bush, lent fine support. I would highly recommend this film firstly because it's good and second in case you're a fan of any of these up-and-coming actors.
Superman Returns (2006)
Exciting and Romantic
Despite originally having reservations that they would both look too young for their roles, both Brandon Routh and Kate Bosworth gave good performances in the movie. What I liked best about them was their romantic chemistry, and they do spend some time in the movie fawning over each other. It's hard to judge Routh's performance as Clark Kent, because Clark does not get all that much screen time. In fact, after about 70 percent of the movie is over, you don't see him at all again. And while I could throw out descriptions like heroic and chivalrous to describe Routh's characterization as Superman, the only adjective that really sticks with me is this: sexy. He played Superman sexy. I would watch Kevin Spacey read a phone book. So I have to say I was a little disappointed with the way he was used in this movie. The land scheme Lex Luthor concocted was pretty lame, IMHO, and for that reason I feel that Spacey was kind of wasted in this movie. The action sequences were top-notch, especially the plane scene which I'm sure any die-hard fan has already seen clips of several times on TV. Overall not a perfect film, some big plot holes (which they will hopefully address in future sequels), but still exciting and romantic.
