The “Silk: Spider Society” live-action series has been scrapped at Amazon.
The show was originally greenlit in November 2022 in a deal with Sony Pictures Television to develop a suite of shows based on Marvel characters that Sony controls. It was meant to debut on the MGM+ linear channel domestically before a global launch on Prime Video.
“The Walking Dead” alum Angela Kang was onboard as executive producer and showrunner, with Kang also signing a multi-year overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios in the process. Kang will continue under that deal. Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal were also executive producers on the series.

Shōgun is a limited series no more: FX is gearing up for more installments of the historic drama.
The renewal was expected and foreshadowed by star-producer Hiroyuki Sanada closing a deal to continue as Lord Yoshii Toranaga. Also back are co-creators, executive producers and writers Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo as well as EP Michaela Clavell.
For now, FX and streaming partner Hulu are saying that they are working with the estate of Shōgun author James Clavell to to develop two additional seasons.
There is no mention of a green light, and a start date for production has not been set, but a writers’ room is being assembled and will begin this summer. There is also no information on source material, whether the new seasons will stay within the Shōgun universe or will also draw from the other books in Clavell’s Asian Saga.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Mary & George finale, “War.”] Mary & George was always headed towards a deadly end. The excellent Starz period drama is based on Benjamin Woolley’s non-fiction book The King’s Assassin: The Fatal Affair of George Villiers and James I. The title alone should tell you everything you need to know. But even if you did know how Mary & George could end thanks to history, it didn’t make the violent conclusion any less tragic, and the creators took a creative liberty with how one character was killed that kept viewers on their toes. The King’s Assassin explores the evidence that George Villiers, the Duke of Buckingham and longtime lover of the Scottish King James I (successor of Queen Elizabeth I), actually murdered the monarch instead of the king dying peacefully in his bed. Rumors immediately surrounded the largely disliked George saying that he poisoned the king and that ...

To say Marvel fans have enjoyed the first season “X-Men ’97” — the continuation of the beloved animated series from the 1990s, widely credited for laying the foundation for the explosion of superhero cinema in the 2000s and 2010s — is a bit like saying Wolverine has a bit of an anger issue. Netflix’s rom-com “Mother of the Bride” and Will Forte crime drama series “Bodkin” led the Luminate streaming originals chart for the week of May 10-16, elbowing past higher-profile competition.
Two buzzy streaming original movies — Netflix’s “Unfrosted” and Amazon Prime Video’s “The Idea of You” — held up well in their second full week in release. The Jake Gyllenhaal starrer “Road House” continues to be a work horse for Prime Video, which confirmed earlier this week that a second installment is in development. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Doctor Who Season 1 Episode 3 “Boom.”] Welcome back to Doctor Who, Steven Moffat! The former showrunner wrote the latest episode, which puts the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Ruby (Millie Gibson) in the middle of a battlefield, with a few twists along the way. The one that will have everyone buzzing first is obviously the casting for one of the Anglican Marines (just one of several nods to Moffat’s Doctor Who past): Varada Sethu—who’s joining the series in Season 2 as a new companion—as Mundy. Moffat, understandably, is mum when it comes to even hinting at what’s ahead for Sethu on Doctor Who. “[Showrunner] Russell [T Davies] has a plan, and I don’t know what the exact details of his release of that plan are going to be,” he tells TV Insider. “I simply wrote the character of Mundy, and she did what she had to do in the story.

In “The Big Cigar,” contradictions weigh heavily on Huey P. Newton (played by the magnificent André Holland). He sees them everywhere. For instance, Huey notes that the NRA contradicted their general ideology by helping the GOP pass gun control laws in the 1960s, all because they were afraid of the group Newton co-founded: the Black Panthers. He’s also keenly aware of the contradiction inherent to a Black man being “set free” from a prison of bars and stone into the prison of the American way. “Contrary to propagated belief, I’m not living to die, but I am refusing to live without liberation,” Huey says during his opening voice-over narration.

After Gardner appeared to be tearing up during the goodnights at last week’s penultimate episode, there was speculation among some fans that this coming week might be her last, but in a new interview with goldderby.com, she made it clear that she intends to stick around.
“Every year I’m there, I try to get more present and more aware of how amazing this time in my life is,” she told interviewer Matt Dixon, “and I think I just really want to be in the moment next season.”
Gardner also revealed which former cast members she’d be most excited to meet at the SNL50 primetime special, which is set to air in the middle of next season.

If you’re still in Shōgun withdrawal, you can look forward to Peacock’s own take on a lavish historical epic this summer. Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan) is behind the small-screen adaptation of Those About to Die, Daniel P. Mannix’s book of the same name, which was also the inspiration for Ridley Scott and David Franzioni’s Gladiator.
This new period drama will come racing to our screens on July 18, with the decline of the Roman Empire as its backdrop. Peacock released a teaser for the series, starring Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hughes, and Iwan Rheon, among others, last month. And the streamer is now moving full speed ahead on promo with new images, including closer looks at the Roman Emperor Flavius Vespasian (Hopkins), who founded the Flavian dynasty; Titus (Hughes), Flavius’ son and successor; and games master Tenax.

The hosts of The View had some strong feelings about the latest “Bennifer” gossip. On Friday’s edition, one of the hot topics for discussion was the rumored marital discord between Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. In Touch reported on Wednesday, May 15, that the Hollywood power couple is heading for divorce and that he had already moved out of their shared home. The same publication later revealed a photo of the two being subsequently spotted together on Thursday, May 16, to watch Affleck’s son Fin in a school play. However, a source for the publication insisted their relationship was still strained, and it was just a “united front.” Prior to that sighting, they had not been photographed together since March 30 in New York, and Lopez attended the Met Gala on May 6 solo. Reportedly, Affleck was busy filming The Accountant 2 at the time. The New York Daily News, meanwhile, denied...

Studio 8G is going dark for two weeks as Late Night with Seth Meyers takes an extended two-week break starting Monday.
Meyers’ will be the only in-season show to take off next week. If this feels a bit like déjà vu, it may be because Meyers returned from another extended break just three weeks ago.
While he won’t be producing new episodes of Late Night, Meyers won’t likely be lounging on the beach, as he’s got a plate full of extracurriculars.
In addition to regularly performing standup (he’s set to tape his second comedy special this June), he hosts a podcast with his brother Josh called Family Trips with the Meyers Brothers and another podcast with The Lonely Island called The Lonely Island & Seth Meyers Podcast.
He also co-created the Emmy nominated IFC series Documentary Now, and wrote the 2022 childrens book “I’m Not Scared, You’re Scared,...

Penelope and Colin’s relationship blooms in Season 3.
Nicola Coughlan knows you’ve swooned over every sneaky peek of Bridgerton Season 3 ahead of its May 16 premiere. The moment her character, Penelope Featherington, confronts longtime crush Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) about a Season 2 slight? The passion. The time they hop into a carriage together? A winking nod to one of Penelope and Colin’s steamiest scenes in the Bridgerton books. And then there was the video of Polin, as they’ve been dubbed by fans, sharing longing stares in the Bridgertons’ drawing room…
“Luke and I love that clip. But it’s not even in our top five Polin scenes,” Coughlan tells Tudum on a cloudy day in London. “If fans love that, they’re going to lose their minds over Season 3.”

Just like the aristocratic ton, Bridgertonloves tradition. Season 3 follows in the steps of what came before. The premiere opens with a third Bridgerton sister preparing to make her debut. In Season 1, it was romantic Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor); in Season 2, it was anxious Eloise (Claudia Jessie), and now, in Season 3, it’s “pragmatic” Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd). Francesca is new to society, and Dodd is new to viewers. This is the actor’s first season on the show, stepping into a role that was recast for Bridgerton Season 3.
“Francesca has been preparing for [her debut] … Filming it was absolutely terrifying, because it was quite early on in production,” Dodd tells Tudum. “There was a little bit of life imitating art there. She was nervous and I was nervous. She was watching people, and I was watching people to learn. We were kind of going through it together.”...

When showrunner John Orloff took on the task of turning historian Donald L. Miller’s “Masters of the Air” into a series for Apple TV+, one task was paramount: putting the audience in the shoes of the Air Force pilots whose World War II exploits were documented in Miller’s book. “We all know what infantry combat looks like,” Orloff told IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit podcast. “We haven’t really seen what these air bomber combat missions were really like.” Knowing that authenticity, both in terms of historical detail and visceral emotional experience, would be key, Orloff turned to visual effects supervisor Stephen Rosenbaum to bring the era and action to life. Although Rosenbaum is known for his groundbreaking work in the fantasy realm on films like James Cameron’s “Avatar,” for “Masters of the Air,” he adhered strictly to reality.
