The world of "Star Wars" is full of great characters that are instantly recognizable, with some even reaching icon status. Characters like Darth Vader, Darth Maul, and Boba Fett have simple yet memorable designs that can be boiled down to recognizable silhouettes. Even when their personalities and characterization aren't all there (like with Maul and Boba), their look tells you everything you need to know about them.
Then there are all the different and unique alien creatures in the franchise, like the Jawas, the Gungans, the Twi'leks, or the Mon Calamari. These feel like nothing else on film and TV, and they make the "Star Wars" universe feel bigger and more lived-in because it's more than just humans and human-like creatures that inhabit this sci-fi galaxy.
This is why it's so hilariously cool that, when "The Mandalorian" introduced the latest addition to the greatest "Star Wars" characters ever, it really is just space Swamp Thing.

Meet Titina! Screen has released the first promo teaser trailer for an animation project from Norway called Titina, a story about a dog that joined an expedition in the 1920s. It's still in production and is expected to be completed sometime in 2022, for release in the fall next year in Norway. This teaser is being released as a Cannes Market promo to gain interest from international distributors. "It revolves around the adventures of real-life fox terrier called Titina, who gained celebrity status in the 1920s when she accompanied her master, the Italian aeronautic engineer Umberto Nobile, and Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen on an expedition to conquer the North pole in an airship. The adventure will be retold through her eyes as she becomes the first and last fox terrier to visit the North Pole, an environment to which she is wholly unsuited." This teaser also features a whale that she spots from the ship above.

The famed Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen led the first expedition to reach the South Pole, so when you watch “Amundsen: The Greatest Expedition,” you may think you’ve got a good idea of the movie you have in store: an adventure at once exciting and treacherous, set in the frozen wilderness, with a stoic Nordic hero at its center — the kind of man who might have been played a few decades ago by Max von Sydow. “Amundsen” has scattered moments of tense physical drama, set against glacial Arctic vistas of fantastic authenticity. You really feel like you’re there.
The movie opens with two men in a propeller plane conking out in the middle of the icy nowhere. One of them is the aging Roald Amundsen (Pål Sverre Hagen), who reveals a hawkish profile of calm, imperious, almost sneering indomitability; the other is a man who can no longer feel his feet.

Torun, Poland – Norwegian cinematographer Pål Ulvik Rokseth is making his mark with such recent high-profile films as Paul Greengrass’ “22 July” and Espen Sandberg’s “Amundsen,” both of which landed him in the main competition at the EnergaCamerimage Intl. Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography in Torun, Poland. Rokseth spoke to Variety about the challenges of shooting “Amundsen,” working with Sandberg and the difficult experience that was “22 July.” How did you get involved in “Amundsen”? I knew about the movie and was very interested in what kind of approach Espen Sandberg was going to take, telling the story of Roald Amundsen. I got the script from Espen Horn, one of the producers, and I was truly amazed at how the film was angled – not at all the action movie I thought it would be, but rather a character study, not only of Amundsen, but also his brother Leon and people...

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Casey Affleck is now attached to star in the Warner Bros. film Race To The South Pole, which is being produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck through their production company, Pearl Street.
The film tells the true story of two explorers in the early 20th century racing to be the first man to reach the last unseen territory on the planet, the South Pole. Affleck stars as Englishman Robert Falcon Scott who is ultimately bested by Norwegian Roald Amundsen (Amundsen has yet to be cast.)
The film’s writer is the relatively-unknown Peter Glanz, who is coming off his directorial debut, The Longest Week. Damon and the elder Affleck’s team-ups have usually proven successful, and Casey Affleck is known for being very selective about his scripts, so for those three to be on board with Glanz script, you can be sure it’s something special.

THR reports (via The Playlist) that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon will be producing Race to the South Pole, starring Ben's little brother, Casey Affleck. The story centers on Royal Navy officer and explorer Robert Falcon Scott (Affleck) and Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen. In 1912, Scott took his men on a long trek to the South Pole. The expedition took about three months, and many men turned back due to the treacherous conditions, but they finally made it to their destination. Unfortunately, they realized that Amundsen and his team had gotten there first — five weeks earlier. Scott was crushed and wrote in his diary, "The worst has happened;" "All the day dreams must go;" "Great God! This is an awful place." He never made it...

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are teaming up to produce the drama Race to the South Pole for Warner Bros. In fact, two Afflecks and a Damon since Casey Affleck is attached to star.
Written by Peter Glanz (The Longest Week) the film will tell the true story of Englishman Robert Falcon Scott and Norwegian Roald Amundsen, who in the early 1900s battled each other to become the first people to reach the South Pole which at the time was still largely unexplored.
That’s quite an ambitious project, and perfectly suited for an adaptation to a motion picture, so here’s hoping this one keeps moving steadily along.
Casey Affleck will play Captain Scott in the movie.
‘Amundsen’s victory and Scott’s defeat have acquired a mythic status over the years: a battle between cold, Scandinavian efficiency and British have-a-go pluck and cheery amateurishness. The victory of the former was therefore assured,...

After leading his brother's film Gone Baby Gone, actor Casey Affleck is collaborating with his brother yet again. THR reports Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are teaming up to produce Race to the South Pole, a new drama with the younger Affleck attached to star. The true story follows two explorers in the early 1900s and their pursuit to be the first person to reach the South Pole, which is the last uncharted territory on the planet at the time. Affleck will play Robert Falcon Scott, a British man who is up against a Norwegian Roald Amundsen (a role yet to be cast), in a race seen as heroic and internationally intriguing for the time period. Obviously, if you want to see which man went down in the history books, you can consult Wikipedia, but this film will be more about the journey rather than who won. Over the past decade,...

Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are to produce a historical drama for Warner Bros. The actors and friends will team up for Race to the South Pole via their company Pearl Street, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Race to the South Pole, which has been pitched by director Peter Glantz, will tell the tale of explorers Robert Falcon Scott and Roald Amundsen as they aim to reach the South Pole during the so called 'heroic age' of Antarctic exploration in the early 20th century. Affleck's brother Casey Affleck is attached to play (more)...

Peter Glanz, who recently wrote and directed his first feature film The Longest Week, has gotten two big time names to produce his next project and a great star attached as well. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are now both attached to Race to the South Pole as producers and Casey Affleck is set to play one of the lead roles. The project is being set up over at Warner Bros. where Damon and Affleck have their Pearl Street banner set up. THR says that the film is based on the true story of two explorers who battle each other to become the first people to reach the South Pole (naturally, the story is set in the early 1900s). The race was between Robert Falcon Scott, who was an Englishman, and Roald Amundsen, a Norwegian. The race, according to the trade, "sparked international interest and galvanized the world to see...

Casey Affleck is attached to star while Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are set to produce the true story drama "Race to the South Pole" for Warner Bros. Pictures and Pearl Street says The Hollywood Reporter.
The film will deal with the famed rivalry and race to the pole undertook by Scott and Amundsen in the early 1900's. British explorer Robert Falcon Scott (Affleck) and Norwegian Roald Amundsen set out on rival expeditions arriving on the icy continent within days of each other.
Amundsen's expedition got their first and returned with no casualties, Scott's expedition was an infamous disaster and no-one returned alive including Scott himself.
Peter Glanz is penning the script while Jennifer Todd will also produce.

What's better than one Affleck? Two Afflecks. And what's better than two Afflecks? Two Afflecks and a Damon. That's right all three are coming together, putting their Voltron like powers toward a project that's a bit unexpected. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are set to produce "Race To The South Pole," with Casey Affleck set to star, THR reports. We just bought our ticket. Penned by Peter Glanz (who recently shot his directorial debut "The Longest Week" with Jason Bateman and Olivia Wilde), and picked up by Warner Bros., the film will tell the true story of Englishman Robert Falcon Scott (Affleck) and Norwegian Roald Amundsen, who in the early 1900s competed in a race to reach the South Pole which at the time was still largely unexplored. That's pretty excellently ambitious stuff, and perfectly suited to the big screen so here's hoping this one keeps moving right along. This...

All siblings squabble from time to time, but sending your younger brother on a mission to the frozen ends of the Earth? That seems a little bit more serious than a Chinese burn. Still, that’s what Ben Affleck is planning for Casey in the movie Race To The South Pole.Admittedly, it’s not a case of family fighting: it’s a new project the elder Affleck is producing along with Bff Matt Damon and their Pearl Street production company. The duo’s team, along with Warners, have picked up the drama pitch from Peter Glanz. It unfolds the true story of two explorers in the early 1900s who aimed to be the first people to reach the Pole. Yes, Robert Falcon Scott and Roald Amundsen were the brave sorts, and their noble quest / huge competition became worldwide news.Spoiler alert! One of them made it. The other did not.

Warner Bros. has picked up Race to the South Pole, a drama pitch from Peter Glanz with Casey Affleck attached. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are producing via their Warners-based banner Pearl Street, as is the company’s newly installed president, Jennifer Todd. Like its title suggests, the project aims to tell the true story of two explorers in the early 1900s and their pursuit to be the first person to reach the South Pole -- the last uncharted territory on the planet. Englishman Robert Falcon Scott and Norwegian Roald Amundsen were explorers from antithetical countries: one from the era's most

Restored documentary footage of Scott's doomed trip to the South Pole can finally be seen on the big screen
One hundred years ago, the former whaling ship Terra Nova sailed out of Cardiff harbour for the Antarctic. On board were 24 officers and scientists who would carry out research in biology, geology, glaciology, meteorology and geophysics during the voyage. More importantly, the ship would later land Captain Robert Scott and his colleagues Henry Bowers, Edgar Evans, Lawrence Oates, and Edward Wilson on Ross Island in Antarctica. From their base camp, Scott and his men launched their doomed attempt to become the first men to reach the South Pole.
The story of the expedition – which led to the deaths in 1912 of Scott and his four colleagues after they discovered they had been beaten to the pole by the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen – is one of the most poignant episodes in the history...

"For scientific leadership, give me Scott; for swift and efficient travel, Amundsen; but when you are in a hopeless situation, when there seems to be no way out, get on your knees and pray for Shackleton." -Sir Raymond Priestly
