It turns out “The Last Song” was just the beginning for rising star Liam Hemsworth.
The Australian heartthrob best known for starring on and off screen with Miley Cyrus is gearing up to play the lead in the new action-thriller “Broken Run.”
Based on an original idea by Jay Longino and Michael Browning, “Broken Run” is about a young diplomatic courier who doesn’t take his job too seriously — until he finds himself framed for stealing state secrets.
John Singleton, who brought us adrenaline-packed blockbusters like “Boyz n the Hood” and “2 Fast 2 Furious,” is attached to direct, Deadline reports.
This marks (another) major leap forward for Liam, whose brother, Chris Hemsworth, has already landed starring roles like Captain Kirk in “Star Trek” and Thor in — you guessed it — “Thor.”
The success of this hunky duo is a rare story in Tinseltown. In fact, Liam had only been in Los Angeles for three weeks,...

Add one more to the cast of McG's This Means War, in which Chris Pine and Tom Hardy go to war over the affections of Reese Witherspoon. (Angela Bassett was just cast [1] the other day.) Mad Men's Abigail Spencer has signed on; she'll play Tom Hardy's ex-wife. Personally, I might do more fighting over her than Reese Witherspoon, but that's just me. [THR [2]] After the break, Ben Foster joins a Mark Wahlberg movie, and John Singleton will direct the younger Hemsworth. I'm more curious about Contraband than most of the other Mark Wahlberg projects that are on deck, mostly because it is a remake [3] of the 2008 Icelandic film Reykjavic-Rotterdam. (And is being directed by that film's star and producer, Baltasar Kormakur.) Now I'm far more interested because the very talented Ben Foster has joined the cast, as has Giovanni Ribisi. (Also a talented guy, obviously.) Mark Wahlberg plays...

John Singleton certainly knows how to get the hopefully right kind of pretty boys in his films. He was able to reel in "The Last Song" actor Liam Hemsworth to star in his new political thriller "Broken Run." The story will be penned by Michael Browning and Jay Longino, but the official synopsis has yet to be revealed. "Broken Run" is under Roar which is on the hunt for a buyer to finance the project. Although Liam won over a bunch of teenage girls with his role in "The Last Song," at least he's making hopefully the right choices to star in more than one set genre. Then again, his brother is Chris Hemsworth who's storming around as the mighty "Thor" in next summer's Marvel film, so Liam's trying to get out of his shadow. Liam is attached to be part of the action adventure "Arabian Nights," which also stars Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Hopkins.

The movie does not yet have a backer, but Michael Browning and Jay Longino are set to write the screenplay, which is set in Washington D.C. Liam began his career on Australian soap 'Neighbours' where he played the character Josh Taylor from 2007 to 2008 before having his breakthrough movie role in 'Knowing'. He is currently in the process of filming 'Arabian Nights' where he is portraying Ali Baba, and he is also rumoured for a role in extreme flying movie 'Northern Lights'. Director John Singleton is on board to direct the political suspense thriller Broken Run. No studio or production company yet is attached to the project and in fact there’s no real script either. The project is currently being shopped around with only a pitch with screenwriters Jay Longino and Michael browning currently writing a script.
And since Singleton is currently directing his new film Abduction and most scripts usually get rewritten at least several times and usually by different hands, it’s not sure yet when Broken Run will actually start production if it does.
For the record, the project which is set in Washington D.C. and deals with ”a recovering alcoholic who becomes addicted to the thrill of stalking strangers and discovers that her new obsession is perhaps more dangerous than she originally thought”. What exactly that means in anybody’s guess.

Liam Hemsworth who co-starred with Miley Cyrus in The Last Song, is signing with Wme. He is already repped by Morrissey management in his native Australia and by the Hollywood management company Roar which has just gone out to studios with a pitch called Broken Run with Liam attached to star and John Singleton directing based on an original idea by Jay Longino & Michael Browning. Co-star Liam Hemsworth is one of the hunky Australian brothers (Exclusive: Chris Hemsworth Is 'Thor') whose overnight success is one of those great Hollywood backstories that happens only once in a blue moon. Liam had only been in Los Angeles for 3 weeks and didn't even have an agent when he got cast as the male lead opposite Miley. Both brothers were living in their manager William Ward's guest house at the time. No more. So what's Broken Run about? I hear it's an action...

John Singleton already has his hands full leading America's favorite were-teen into leading man status, directing Taylor Lautner in the action thriller Abduction. Still, he's not going to waste any time while he's got his name associated with Taylor Lautner, and is already setting up what's next. Variety reports that Singleton has signed on to direct and produce another action thriller, Layover, this one about corrupt Tsa agents. Yes, this is when America gets to take out country justice on the airline industry. You may now commence rubbing your hands together with glee. Sierra Pictures is in charge of the production, having optioned the script by Jay Longino and Michael Browning. The actual story is about an ex-con whose family is kidnapped by those evil Tsa agents while the family is on a seven-hour layover, which sounds like pretty much the only thing that could make an airport layover any...

While most people get pissed off at the mere mention of a layover in their travel plans, it looks like director John Singleton has sought one out for himself as Variety reports that Singleton has signed on to produce and direct the action thriller titled Layover. Written by Jay Longino & Michael Browning, the story centers on an ex-con whose family is kidnapped by a group of corrupt Tsa agents while on a seven-hour layover (I'd be more pissed at the seven-hour layover). No word on casting yet, however, this is still a long ways off since Singleton will next direct another thriller, titled Abduction, starring the much swooned-over Taylor Lautner. Singleton's never really impressed me much as a filmmaker, with the exception of maybe Boyz n the Hood, and honestly, I might go so far as to call previous endeavors like Shaft (the one with Samuel L. Jackson) and 2 ...

Not long ago we heard that John Singleton would be in full-on director for hire mode as head of the Taylor Lautner action thriller Abduction. Everybody's got to eat, right? And if Lautner really is going to be as huge as studio execs believe, that could buy a hell of a banquet for Singleton. Now Singleton has a follow-up project set: another action thriller called Layover, which includes a group of villains that anyone who has flown in the past few years can be ready to hate: corrupt Tsa agents. Variety says the script, by Jay Longino and Michael Browning, is about " an ex-con whose family is kidnapped by a group of corrupt Tsa agents while on a seven-hour layover." Sure, we've already seen "Die Hard in an airport," but that was pre-9/11 security. So: another take on a similar premise? Sure, why not? Besides, it's easy to see how...
