Chef David Burke has built a massive name for himself through decades in the culinary industry. Originally from New Jersey, Burke took his career to new heights at a young age while working in nearby New York City, and has since opened restaurants all over the world, from the United States to Saudi Arabia.
Of course, during that time, fans became familiar with Burke from his appearances on TV shows like Top Chef and Iron Chef America. But after spending time on both, Burke revealed he prefers the former.

Actor Tom Burke has reflected on how influential his godfather, the late Alan Rickman, was on his life.
Rickman died of cancer in 2016, at the age of 69. He was a good friend of Tom Burke’s parents – actors David Burke and Anna Calder-Marshall.
Talking about Rickman in a new interview with The Observer, Tom Burke said: “When Alan died, Juliet Stevenson got it right when she said we’ve lost a king. You did sometimes feel like you were at Alan’s court. He had a sense of mission about him and was invested in so many people.
“Even if you only met him once, he could become a momentary huge influence in your life. He had a way of asking very penetrating questions, often without necessarily meaning to. People would walk away and make quite big life decisions.”

Downton Abbey alum Allen Leech and Normal People star India Mullen are set to lead the cast of The Vanishing Triangle, an upcoming Irish drama series for AMC Network’s Sundance Now. As reported by Deadline, the pair will headline the six-part series, which is expected to start production later this year in the U.S., U.K., and Ireland. The show (and its title) is inspired by real-life events that shook Ireland in the 1990s when several women began disappearing, starting when American woman Annie McCarrick went missing in the spring of 1993. Mullen will portray reporter Lisa Wallace, who faces prejudice and police incompetence while attempting to investigate the mysterious murder of her own mother nearly 20 years earlier. Leech, meanwhile, will play David Burke, a detective helping with Lisa’s case but who is dealing with his own struggles regarding his sexuality. The project comes from Ireland’s Park Films,...

Exclusive: Allen Leech and India Mullen will lead the cast of an Irish drama series for AMC Networks’ Sundance Now and local broadcaster Virgin Media Television, we’ve learned.
The pair will topline six-part drama The Vanishing Triangle, which goes into production later this year with a U.S.-UK-Ireland production set-up, and Eccho Rights attached as international distributor. The show is inspired on true events that shook Ireland in the 1990s, when several women disappeared. While the characters and events in the series are fictional, the producers have spoken to several of the real life victims’ families, and hope the show will keep their stories in the Irish public’s mind. The show title is regularly used in the Irish media to refer to the events, which began with the disappearance of American woman Annie McCarrick in 1993 and spiraled to involve many similar cases.

Lest anyone think Paul Verhoeven’s latest shocker was intended to be a serious look at sexuality in religious service, the promotional poster for the film plastered around the Cannes Film Festival — where “Benedetta” bowed in competition — depicts actor Virginie Efira dressed as a 17th-century Italian nun, her white habit pulled open to reveal an airbrushed nipple. This is an erotic film, full stop, and though “Benedetta” is smarter in various respects than such sisters-in-exploitation as “Put Your Devil Into My Hell” and “The Killer Nun,” in others, it’s much, much dumber.
Let’s begin with the wooden statue of the Virgin Mary that is young Benedetta’s most prized possession when she enters the Theatine convent as an 8-year-old novice, and that, by the film’s end, will have been whittled into a shape through which ecstasy is far more easily achieved. Everything is either obvious, vulgar or...

They call Phil Kennedy the father of the cyborgs, a man intelligent enough to connect the brains of paralysed people to computers, giving them back a means of connecting with the world, yet not smart enough to tell his girlfriend before undergoing elective surgery on his own brain. He's the kind of subject who makes a documentarian's life easy, yet director David Burke has gone all out to make this film visually interesting and richly contextualised. If you have no prior knowledge of this type of science then it may take you a little while to find your feet. If you know it well, you'll find this more interesting as a character study than revelatory. Either way, it's a stimulating experience.
This is the kind of subject routinely described by outsiders as "more like science fiction than science fact," and accordingly Burke opens the film with clips from assorted science fiction.

The film also stars John Bradley (HBO’s “Game of Thrones”), Michelle Buteau (Netflix’s “Michelle Buteau: Welcome to Buteaupia”) and Utkarsh Ambudkar (“Mulan”).
Kat Coiro (“Dead to Me”) will direct the film. Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Lopez’s producing partner and Benny Medina will both serve as producers on “Marry Me.”

Though it might seem like just any other puppet you’d find at the Laika stop-motion animation studio, its hardest challenge yet was creating the furry, plump and bright orange monster that became the title character of their latest film “Missing Link.”
The team of stop motion animators had to determine how to make Link’s belly jiggle as it walked, how to stretch its arms, and how its fur should move in the wind. And like any troublesome actor, that often meant this diva of a puppet frequently showed up late to set.
“This little avocado with a face is the most complicated thing we’ve ever created at the studio,” Brian McLean, Laika’s director of rapid prototyping told TheWrap’s Steve Pond following a screening of “Missing Link” at the Landmark Theatres in Los Angeles. “His simple shape and silhouette was really difficult to figure out how...

The latest iteration of the comedic superhero series will debut its second season Friday on Amazon, but deciding to bring the Tick back to television for the third time was something that Edlund admitted wasn’t easy. “It’s a very chilling, scary concept to try to do it again,” he told IndieWire. On a February set visit to Bristol, a group of journalists chatted to Martin Freeman about Sherlock’s Victorian-set Christmas Special…
Read the Sherlock special set visit round-table interview with Benedict Cumberbatch, here.
Filming on Sherlock’s first Christmas Special, The Abominable Bride, took place at the beginning of this year. Back then, very little was known about the episode, and the BBC was naturally keen to keep it that way.
Prior to visiting the Bristol set in February, we'd been told that the Special was set in the Victorian era, and that was more or less where the certainties ended. The rest was a hotchpotch of rumour, deduction and inference.
If the following cast and creators round-table interviews seem to have a hint of courtroom interrogation or parlour game about them, then, that air of secrecy explains it. Regardless of the constraints on what could and couldn’t be confirmed,...

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman return to Sherlock for the 2015 Special. Here's a round-up of the Special news and rumours so far...

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman were both snapped by trusty #setlock fans wearing the same period costume as in the preview image released by the BBC in November (see above).
Underneath that handsome top hat, Cumberbatch is sporting a shiny slicked-back hair do that, as does his costume, bears a strong resemblance to that worn by Jeremy Brett in the 80s-90s Granada Television Holmes series. I have to admit that when I see the name Opie, I immediately think of Mayberry, Andy Griffith and Ron Howard before he shaved. Now I understand that shock jock Anthony Cumia was fired last week by Sirius Xm for being, I think the technical term is, a tweeting moron. His on-air partner Greg Hughes — known to all by the same moniker as Sheriff Taylor’s kid — is said to be “devastated.”

The trouble had begun a few weeks earlier, during a year-end special, when the curmudgeonly commentator expressed his opinion that “too much alcohol, too much food,...

The trouble had begun a few weeks earlier, during a year-end special, when the curmudgeonly commentator expressed his opinion that “too much alcohol, too much food,...

Might the BBC’s Sherlock adapt The Adventure Of The Blue Carbuncle for its 2015 festive special?
Feature
Whether by accident or design, Martin Freeman let the world in on the secret of Sherlock’s 2015 one-off episode weeks ago. Though the C-word was absent from the BBC’s official announcement, Freeman’s rogue comments identified the episode as “a Christmas special”, which is motivation enough for us to fire up the wild speculation engines.
As Arthur Conan Doyle readers will tell you, one Sherlock Holmes story in particular is ripe for adaptation as a Christmas special. With its playful plot, lack of murder or violence, and frothy story of a hapless jewel theft, The Adventure Of The Blue Carbuncle essentially is a nineteenth century Christmas special. It’s a quirky 27-page mystery with a happy ending that finds the Great Detective in a jocund, sportive mood. It features a goose, a...

Washington -- A hometown boy is becoming the first "Top Chef" to transition to sister Bravo program "Top Chef Masters."
Bryan Voltaggio, the star chef behind Volt, Family Meal and Lunchbox (all in Frederick, Md.) and Chevy Chase's Range, will be the first "Top Chef" contestant to compete on "Top Chef Masters," Bravo announced Wednesday:
Well, apparently Bryan Voltaggio can stand the heat because he's not ready to get out of the Top Chef kitchen. Bryan will become the first Top Chef to compete on Top Chef Masters, Bravo -- that's us! -- announced today. The new season, which will premiere July 24th at 10/9c, welcomes 13 chefs -- including Bryan -- competing for the title of Top Chef Master.

Despite some controversy surrounding its origins, Us drama Elementary has proven to be quite a hit - CBS recently ordered two bonus episodes of the detective drama and also awarded it the coveted post-Super Bowl slot... For our money, much of the show's success is down to star Jonny Lee Miller, who makes for a fantastically frenetic Holmes. So this week's Friday Fiver is a celebration of the men who came before Miller - the five greatest actors to bring Conan Doyle's detective to life on the small screen... > TV Shows That Need a Sequel: Friday Fiver

Often named as the greatest on-screen Holmes in any medium, Brett made for a wonderfully neurotic, fiercely intellectual Sherlock, paired first with David Burke and later Edward Hardwicke (more)...

Daniel Radcliffe, The Woman in Black
The Woman in Black sequel — has a plot. Jon Croker, a story editor in the first film, is writing the new — and apparently original — Hammer Films project. Jane Goldman wrote the first Woman in Black adaptation, which was based on Susan Hill’s novel.
According to a synopsis found at Shock Till You Drop, the Woman in Black sequel centers on a "beautiful young nurse" striving to help World War II soldiers suffering from combat trauma and other psychological ailments. As if the soldiers’ mental woes weren’t enough, the Woman in Black has begun haunting the local military hospital.
No director, cast, or titles — “The Woman in Black 2″? “The Return of the Woman in Black”? “The Curse of the Woman in Black”? “The Woman in Black Strikes Back”? — have been announced as yet.

You can keep your Cumberbatch and Rathbone. Of the 75-odd actors who have played Sherlock Holmes on screen, Jeremy Brett is the man
You can keep Basil Rathbone, fond as I am of him. You can keep Robert Downey, Jr, Benedict Cumberbatch and Peter Cushing. You can even keep Michael Caine in Without A Clue (my secret favourite portrayal of Sherlock Holmes on the big screen). You know why you can keep them? Because, in exchange, I get Jeremy Brett, the Sherlock for the connoisseurs.
Jeremy Brett is the Sherlock Holmes of my childhood, and perhaps (as with the Doctor or James Bond) we simply attach ourselves to the first one we see. But I don't think so. In the ITV series which began in 1984, and ran until a year before Brett's early death in 1995, Sherlock Holmes was as close to his literary roots as he has ever been on screen.
