Why We're Obsessed With 'Game of Thrones' Beer
We've got a cold beer for you Game of Thrones fans -- Brewery Ommegang has partnered with HBO to craft a new beer as fans await the epic premiere of season 7 in early July. Bend the Knee Golden Ale will be available on draft and in a series of three collectible 750ml bottles, all finished in matte black and adorned with one of the three Great House sigils: Stark, Targaryen, or Lannister. "With this next Game of Thrones-inspired release, we wanted a beer and a pack that was fit for a king… or a queen," said Brewery Ommegang President, Doug Campbell. The wildflower honey-brewed drink will be a perfect way to kick off the summer with a mixture of "maltiness...

365Flicks Podcast – Episode 18: Oliver Stone / The Dallas Action / JFK Assassination / The Truth In The Lies
This time we stray from our beaten path and delve into the 1991 classic JFK by Oliver Stone, but rather than talk about the movie and its numerous theories. We decided to take another route and figure out the fact from the fiction. Chris has become a fan of one our fellow Tangent Bound Podcasters, The Dallas Action.
The Dallas Action is presented by Doug Campbell a “Student of the Narrative” so he came on board from Tennessee over the Skypes and brought along his fellow Researcher Martin Rigby.

HBO‘s Game of Thrones is well known for its amazing production values, with unrivaled locations and a voluminous cast. Sometimes, though, the location and cast aren’t enough to convey the vast, epic sights and numbers required for the series. No worries, of course, because they have SpinVFX on board, with the most spectacular, seamless visual effects ever produced for a series.
We’re happy to share the latest gasp-inducing featurette released by the company, which showcases highlights of their Season 3 work, along with a press release giving credit where it’s due.

From 1991-1994, Doug Funnie and his multicolored friends were Nickelodeon favorites. But while Doug's Bff Skeeter was blue and the school bully Roger Klotz was green, Doug was white.
Jezebel delved into the reasoning behind Doug's skin color, and the answer isn't a great one. Simply put, Nickelodeon was catering to a white audience.
"The others didn't get Nickelodeon," one of Nickelodeon's founders, Gus Hauser, said in "Slimed!: An Oral History of Nickelodeon's Golden Age," via Bitch magazine. "Children who couldn't afford cable were getting some children's programming from PBS. Sure, it brings up issues of diversity and income level."
Executive producer Doug Campbell's reasoning wasn't any more satisfactory. "Look, we’re not black people, we’re not Mexican, but we want the cartoon to speak to all groups," Campbell said in "Slimed!" "How do we get past the barrier of ethnicity? And Jim [Jinkins, the show's creator] said, ‘Let’s try coloring them all different colors.

The League of Extraordinary Nerds takes over Saturday night with cultural exploration and charity fundraising.
The League of Extraordinary Nerds wants to reform the tired bar scene with some cultural infusion and a healthy dose of charity. Syyn Labs, the digital arts company widely known for helping make Ok Go's Rube Goldberg viral music video, invites dozens of their closest friends on a monthly excursion to explore cultural innovation around L.A. in their fanciest formal attire.
Last February, after a tour of Steve Glenn's famous super-green house, the tyrants capped off the night with four-hour bar crawl. The best part: A fraction of the proceeds from each event raise money for local charity. "We've now had two events; we've raised over $2,000 for charity while having a wonderful, fantastic, debaucherous night out on the town," says Doug Campbell, Syyn Lab's founder.

The geek darlings behind Syyn Labs have created feats of fancy for the likes of Google, Disney, and the band Ok Go. Now it's time for their biggest challenge yet: Create a business from their techy passion projects.

"We're a sensationalism service," says Brent Bushnell.
Ask cofounder Adam Sadowsky and he says, "We're a one-stop production company: We make physical art that moves people."
"We want to be the 'engineering is cool' group," Bushnell adds.
Another cofounder, Eric Gradman, sums it up this way: "We're a glorified drinking club with an art problem."
Syyn Labs, the art collective/budding company that Bushnell, Sadowsky, Gradman, and four others founded last year at Barbara's bar at the Brewery Art Colony in Los Angeles, is all that and more. It's the best of what happens when a bunch of nerds, including...

With so much fuss being made about J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot, it's easy to forget that there is another successful franchise out there with Star... in the title. That would be Stargate, which is due for its own sort of makeover later this year with the premiere of Stargate Universe. This is no sign that the concept is struggling, though. Indeed, the slew of awards that Stargate productions won at the recent Leo Awards in Vancouver, British Columbia (the home base of CinemaSpy) shows that it continues to be admired.
The Leo Awards are presented by the Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Foundation of B.C.. They were established in 1998 to celebrate excellence in film and television productions that are made in the province. Stargate series and movies are largely filmed in Vancouver. At this years Celebration and Gala Ceremonies for the Leos, which took place on May 8 and...
