Original TV series based on Arab and Muslim characters are beginning to go global, a Netflix executive said Saturday at the Red Sea Film Festival.
Ahmed Sharkawi, director of Arab content, Netflix Europe, Middle East and Africa, said that a new, distinctive voice was emerging from the region.
“Recently, a friend called me and her mother-in-law – who is 100% American – was recommending one of our Arab series [“Finding Ola,” starring Hind Sabri] to all her friends,” he said at a panel about writing for television.
“This wave [of Arab and Muslim stories] is beginning; the U.S. audience is becoming open to watching stories that are outside of the U.S. experience.”
The region was rich in a tradition of storytelling that meant there were many original scripts being written, he said.
“There are so many stories in this region that have not been told before, so [our job is] about harvesting that intellectual property.”

In the first look at the final batch of episodes, God wows his family/guests with food, but underwhelms in the whole dad department. And when He decides it is time to retire, twins Lucifer and Michael fight over the role.

The summer just got a little hotter as Netflix revealed that Lucifer will return in May for the second half of Season 5. The streamer posted the announcement on Twitter with a meme of Tom Ellis’ Lucifer and Lauren German’s Detective Chloe Decker.
“We know that more episode are what you truly desire. Season 5B arrives on Netflix May 28th,” the official Lucifer Netflix Twitter account shared on Monday.
The supernatural series, which initially aired on Fox for three season before coming to Netflix, follows Ellis’ Lucifer who is bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell. He resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for Los Angeles, where he gets his kicks helping LAPD detective Chloe Decker. In the fifth season, the stakes are higher than ever. Secrets will be revealed, beloved characters will die, and we’ll finally get an answer to the question, “will they or won’t they?...

The “Lucifer” Season 5B premiere date has risen. Netflix revealed Monday that the second half of the fifth season of the Tom Ellis-led drama will launch May 28.
That upcoming installment of “Lucifer” is set as the show’s penultimate, following Netflix’s June 2020 renewal of “Lucifer” for a sixth and final season. The eight-episode Part 1 of Season 5 launched last August.
“Imagine running a marathon and then getting right to the end and then they go, ‘Oh, by the way, the finish line is a little bit further.'” That’s how Ellis, who plays Lucifer Morningstar, described to TheWrap Netflix’s decision to renew “Lucifer” for a sixth and final season, after previously picking it up for a fifth and final season, after rescuing it for a fourth season following its cancellation at Fox after its third season.

Netflix dropped the trailer for the first half of Season 5 of “Lucifer” on Monday, revealing that Lucifer (Tom Ellis) will be returning from hell much sooner than you probably anticipated. Oh, wait, that’s because it’s not actually Lucifer — it’s his evil twin, Michael.
In the trailer for Season 5A, which you can watch via the video above, Chloe (Lauren German) is trying desperately to move on with her life after Lucifer’s decision to return to run his fiery kingdom at the end of Season 4. She has been focusing on work and hanging with Maz (Lesley-Ann Brandt) in hopes of healing — and then Lucifer pops right back up from the depths of hell. Except, um, we soon find out that who we think is Lucifer is his twin — and a rather evil one at that — Michael.
Here’s the official description for the first half of “Lucifer” Season 5, which launches Aug.

It’s official — Netflix has ordered a sixth season of Lucifer, which will be its last. The announcement (you can see it below) acknowledges the fact that the streamer previously renewed the series for a fifth season, which also was billed as final, calling Season 6 “Final final.”
The news comes almost a month after Deadline reported the series star Tom Ellis has closed a deal to return as the title character for a sixth season. Netflix started talks with series producer Warner Bros. TV about another installment of the comic book drama ahead of the fifth season premiere. The rest of the cast and executive producers Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson also closed new deals for another season.

“Lucifer” will live on, with Netflix announcing that they have renewed the show for a sixth and final season. The announcement was made on social media Tuesday morning.
This now marks the second time the show has been renewed for a “final” season at Netflix. After airing on Fox for three years before being canceled, Netflix revived it for a fourth season in 2018. It was announced last year that Season 5 would be the last. The show made a tongue-in-cheek reference to its surprising longevity, saying Season 6 will be the “Final final” season in making the announcement. No episode count was announced with the renewal. The longest season to date was Season 3 on Fox, which was 26 episodes.
“Lucifer” centers on Tom Ellis as the titular fallen angel and the Lord of Hell, who works with the LAPD to take down Earth’s criminals. The series also stars Lauren German, Kevin Alejandro,...

Netflix has saved “Lucifer” once again. The streaming service has renewed the Tom Ellis-led drama for a sixth season and final season after previously announcing the show’s upcoming fifth season, which premieres this August, would be its final.
The announcement was made via a tweet from the show’s official account Tuesday morning: “the devil made us do it. #lucifer will return for a sixth and final season. like, Final final.”
Netflix resurrected “Lucifer” back in June 2018, picking the series up for a fourth season after it had been canceled by Fox. Season 4 debuted on the streaming service almost a year later, in May 2019, and one month after the launch, Netflix renewed “Lucifer” for a 16-episode fifth and final season set to debut in 2020.

Netflix has finally set the premiere date for the first half of Season 5 of “Lucifer” with an announcement that is missing any mention of this being the show’s final season.

A sixth season of Lucifer is moving closer to reality after star Tom Ellis has closed a deal to return as the title character.
Netflix earlier this year started talks with series producer Warner Bros. TV about another installment of the comic book drama beyond the upcoming fifth season, which had been billed as a final installment. Executive producers Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson, who have been steering the show, quickly closed new deals for another season.
It took lengthy, difficult negotiations with Ellis but he also recently signed on to return. The rest of the cast are also on board, sources said. With all key pieces in place, Netflix is expected to proceed with the pickup.

“Sharp Objects” and “Run” producer-distributor Entertainment One is reassuring partners of its commitment to drama following its acquisition by toy giant Hasbro.
EOne has always cultivated a strong set of procedurals, such as ABC’s Nathan Fillion-starrer “The Rookie” and Fox’s Stephen Dorff-led “Deputy,” but has also gained traction with cable propositions such as HBO’s “Sharp Objects” and the forthcoming thriller “Run” from “Fleabag” creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who both produces and stars.
However, following Hasbro’s shock $3.8 billion all-cash deal for the business – an acquisition that made sense from a kids’ content perspective given eOne’s lucrative “Peppa Pig” franchise and “Pj Masks” property – alarm bells rang around eOne’s future prospects in scripted drama.
Now that the deal has closed, senior eOne TV execs – who last week hosted global buyers in London for the firm’s annual U.K. Screenings event – are assuaging fears about the company’s post-Hasbro pipeline,...

The upcoming fifth season of Lucifer may not be as final as it seemed.
Netflix is in talks with series producer Warner Bros. TV about another installment of the comic book drama, sources have confirmed to Deadline. I hear executive producers Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson, who have been steering the show, would need to make a new deal but would like to do another season.
If all comes together, I hear the plan is for Lucifer to go back into production in September. Star Tom Ellis and other Lucifer cast members already have been approached for broadcast pilots and new series on various platforms, so Netflix and Wbtv would need to step up their efforts to secure the actors. But they are available, and sources close to the situation are optimistic that a renewal would happen.

The producing team behind the upcoming Fox drama “Deputy” have set up their second development project at Fox this season, Variety has learned.
Both David Ayer and Chris Long of Cedar Park are set to executive produce the one-hour drama “Troubleshooter” currently in the works at the broadcaster. Netflix has decided to give the devil his due. The streamer has expanded the final Season 5 episode order for Lucifer, adding six more hours to bring the season total to 16 episodes.
The addition was announced Friday on the official NetflixUS Twitter account. The move to add additional episodes might have come from impassioned fan support, the same base that got the former Fox show moved to Netflix.
Last month, Lucifer executive producer Ildy Modrovich tried to break the news gently to fans that their beloved TV show is entering its final season.
In a Twitter post, Modrovich tried to head off efforts by fans who already were contemplating lobbying for a sixth season of the show. Netflix picked up a fourth and fifth season of the comic book drama after it was canceled by Fox after three seasons, in part because of the huge outpouring of support from fans of the series.

“We’re thrilled that ‘Lucifer’ fans around the world have embraced this series on Netflix, and we can’t wait to give them the big finish they’ve all been waiting for,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement.
“Lucifer” centers on Tom Ellis as the titular fallen angel and the Lord of Hell, who works with the Lapd to take down Earth’s criminals. The series also stars Lauren German, Kevin Alejandro, D.B. Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Scarlett Estevez, and Rachael Harris.

Deckstar fans might be taken aback by the Season 4 trailer for “Lucifer,” which reveals Chloe (Lauren German) is seemingly Ok after seeing Lucifer’s (Tom Ellis) true face — but that doesn’t mean she can accept him for who he truly is. You know who can, though? His “first love” Eve (Inbar Lavi). That’s right, Eve, of Adam and Eve.
The one-minute, 56-second trailer, released by Netflix on Thursday, we see the Detective return from a trip after discovering Lucifer actually is the Devil himself at the end of Season 3. And because she just wants to get back to work, Lucifer decides she’s clearly in denial. However, it starts to become clear — very quickly — something else is going on with Chloe, and she may not be ready for all this heaven and hell business after all. Enter: Eve.

The fourth season of “Lucifer” debuts next month, and whether you are a Lucifan who just needs a quick series-refresher or someone who has literally no idea what the Tom Ellis-led drama is about, Netflix has you covered with a crash course on Seasons 1-3.
Or, more specifically, the Devil himself does. In a promo released by the streaming service Friday, Lucifer (Ellis) recaps the first three seasons of the former Fox series ahead of the show’s Season 4 launch on its new platform on May 8.
“You know, Lucifer used to be God’s favorite Angel. Those were the days. Oh, where to start. Well, I’m the Devil,” Lucifer says, as he pours himself a drink before launching into his three-season recap, which you can view below.
And once you’re all caught up thanks to Ellis, here’s the description for Season 4: “Reeling from the aftermath...

So much smiling is going on in our first look at “Lucifer” Season 4, but we can’t yet tell if any of it is good.
In new photos released from the former-Fox drama’s upcoming fourth season of Netflix on Thursday, which you can view below, Lucifer (Tom Ellis) is hanging with two very different ladies: Eve (Inbar Lavi) and Chloe (Lauren German). And while Chloe appears to be smiling at Lucifer in a forgiving way that is going to tug at Team Deckstar fans’ heartstrings in the most sinful way possible, Eve’s smirky intro is equally entertaining.
Here’s the description for Season 4: “Reeling from the aftermath of Chloe seeing his devil face, Lucifer faces a new challenge: Eve, the original sinner herself, is back. Does she want revenge for when he tempted her out of Eden oh so many years ago … or something else entirely?...

Netflix has set May 8 (exactly 666 hours from now) for the Season 4 premiere of Lucifer. The date was revealed in a provocative video tease (watch above) featuring Tom Ellis’ devil emerging from a swimming pool.
The streaming internet network picked up the Warner Bros. TV-produced Lucifer for the upcoming fourth season after it was cancelled by Fox and following a big #SaveLucifer campaign that dominated the social media conversation for more than a month.

“Lucifer” is officially returning for Season 4–on Netflix.
The streaming giant has picked up the Warner Bros. TV series after it was cancelled at Fox last month. Fans have been fervently petitioning for the show to be saved with the hashtag #SaveLucifer since the cancellation was announced. One of the factors that complicated things was the fact that Hulu controlled the Svod rights to “Lucifer.”
Series co-showrunner Joe Henderson tweeted his thanks to fans once the news was official.
“Thank you thank you Thank You to all the #Lucifer fans,” he wrote. “You brought us back. You did this. So relax, take a breath, put some ice on those fingers that have been hashtagging up a storm… and get ready for more deviltime.”
This is not the first time that Netflix has saved a Wbtv show. Previously, Netflix also scooped up the WB drama series “Longmire” when it was cancelled after three seasons at A&E,...

What a feat — two canceled Fox shows this year made the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter, and now both have found new homes.
Netflix has made a deal for comic book drama Lucifer, which will become a Netflix original starting with its upcoming fourth season. The Tom Ellis–starring Lucifer joins cult canceled comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which landed at NBC after the Fox cancellation.
Netflix’s pickup decision comes just as the options on the Lucifer cast were about to expire at the end of day today. It follows a big #SaveLucifer campaign that has stayed in the social media conversation for the past month.
Buoyed by strong fan support, Lucifer producer Warner Bros. TV started shopping the series to steaming services and premium cable networks immediately after its cancellation more than a month ago.
There were multiple interested buyers, including Netflix and rival Amazon. It took time for a...

Lucifer‘s Cinderella story has ended after three seasons.
A low-key midseason entry in 2016, Lucifer, from Warner Bros. TV, exceeded expectations, earning a second-season renewal, a Season 2 back order and an early Season 3 renewal — all within nine months. Last season, Lucifer ran head-to-head in the ratings with its higher-profile, bigger-budget Monday lead-in Gotham, both averaging a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating in Live+Same Day and and 1.9 in L+7.
Both comic-based dramas are down this season, with Lucifer, now a Monday 8 Pm anchor, averaging a 1.1 in Live+7. (Gotham is at a 1.2)
Lucifer, based on the comic book characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for Vertigo, starred Tom Ellis, Lauren German, Rachael Harris, Db Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Aimee Garcia, Tricia Helfer, Scarlett Estevez and Kevin Alejandro, who is already being pursued by other shows.
