I Know You Know
Stars: Robert Caryle, Arron Fuller, David Bradley | Written and Directed by Justin Kerrigan
The press release for I Know You Know describes the film as both a ‘touching coming of age movie’ and a ‘British father and son thriller’. From the cover art on the DVD, which depicts a furious Robert Carlyle brandishing a gun and newcomer Aaron Fuller running frantically, you might expect to find a ‘gritty’ action adventure inside. In truth, I Know You Know does not fit neatly into any genre in particular and carves its own niche.
In late 80s Cardiff, Charlie (Carlyle) and his son Jamie (Fuller) are on the run. Charlie is undercover, on a secret mission that revolves around the presumably nefarious activities of new satellite television company. Whilst Charlie goes about his top secret business, Jamie spends time at his Uncle Ernie’s house and enrols at a new school,...

Robert Carlyle stars in the long-awaited new film from Human Traffic director Justin Kerrigan. Mark checks out I Know You Know...
Nine years after writer-director Justin Kerrigan's award-winning feature debut, Human Traffic, he's returned with a much more gentle and personal effort in I Know You Know. Where Human Traffic brought the rave movement to the screen with electrifying realism, this instead focuses on a semi auto-biographical portrayal of the relationship between a father and a son, in tribute to Kerrigan's own late father.
Robert Carlyle plays Charlie Callaghan, on whom the film opens as he delivers a Travis Bickle-esque assurance to his bathroom mirror that he has everything under control. Specifically, he's on a dangerous mission against telecommunications company Astro-Sat on behalf of Her Majesty's secret service. However, he also has to look after his young son, Jamie, played by Arron Fuller.

La-La Land Records sent along info on CD soundtracks for two anticipated fall-2009 fright films it has released this week. One is the original score for the long-awaited Trick ’R Treat (which hits DVD and Blu-ray October 6), composed by Monster House’s Douglas Pipes.
Trick writer/director Michael Dougherty has great praise for Pipes, saying, “Like myself, Douglas was a newcomer to the industry, but he made one hell of an entrance with his score for Monster House. I’ll never forget watching that movie, bobbing my head to the music, and thinking to myself ‘Holy crap, who is this guy?!’ It was mischievous but scary, fun yet foreboding. It was like hearing Elfman or Goldsmith for the first time, and I was hooked.”
Pipes, who earned accolades and award nominations for his Monster House compositions, adds, “When I first spoke to Michael about Trick ’R Treat, his love of film music was quite infectious.

The heart that pounds away in our chests only does so a finite amount of time so we owe it to ourselves to milk the maximum amount out of every moment and explore as many avenues of interest possible. Why settle for a single profession, a solitary job, one in which we lock in and tread water for the rest of our lives? Every personality has many appendages and there is no crime in sating and expressing each and every one of them.
And, yeah, John Harrison is cool.
And while his name may or may not immediately mean something to you, rest assured, since he first got his left eardrum impaled upon a screwdriver in George A. Romero’s 1978 masterpiece Dawn Of The Dead, actor, writer, producer, director and composer John Harrison has spent his entire adult life pursuing his interests and perfecting his talents. Romero admirers most likely...

Upcoming Film Scores lists the ten most exciting, promising and anticipated film scores of 2009, according to its editor Mikael Carlsson who can't wait to hear what will come out musically of these projects:
1. Avatar (James Horner)
Director James Cameron and composer James Horner are of course best known for the multi-zillion-whatever-megahit Titanic, but they also gave us Aliens in 1986 which stands out as one of the most exciting nailbiter scores in sci-fi history. On that film, Cameron gave Horner a pretty hard time as judging from the composer interview on the special edition DVD, and basically what you hear in the film is the result of a composer writing under enormous pressure. On Avatar, the situation is the complete opposite. A luxury in film scoring today, the total time given to the scoring process on this film will probably exceed one year! Horner is currently working exclusively on this film,...

British composer Guy Farley, who recently had his score for the Richard Gere thriller The Flock released by MovieScore Media, is currently working on the original orchestral score for Clive Barker's Book of Blood, produced by the author and directed by John Harrison, a filmmaker who is also known as a film composer in his own right (Creepshow, Tales from the Darkside). Farley, who is best known for his melodic scores (Modigliani, Madre Teresa, The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey) has recently focused on darker subjects (The Flock is one example, The Broken and Knife Edge two others) and is writing for an orchestra excluding violins, featuring among other instruments ethnic flutes and percussion, a low brass quartet (tuba, cimbasso, contrabass trombone, bass trombone) and the unusual instrument Monochord. Recording should take place in London later this month. The film is produced by UK's Matador Pictures and stars Jonas Armstrong,...
