At this point, our excitement levels for "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" is probably classifiable as "inhuman." The Matt Reeves-directed sequel to 2011's surprise critical and commercial smash "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," which takes place 10 years after the events of that first movie, while planet Earth is slowly transitioning from on being ruled by humans to a world controlled by primates, opens later this week and it looks like a corker. Most of this is due, of course, to the staggering work of New Zealand effects-house Weta, who once again bring their artistic precision and technical expertise to the forefront. With this exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette, you're let in on how they brought these apes to life.
"As 'Dawn' begins, the feeling is that it's the dawn of a new species," Reeves states at the beginning of the piece, once again sporting his patented 18th...

London, Nov. 2: A Bristol inventor has created the world's first glow in the dark ice cream using a synthesised version of the protein, which is responsible for making the jellyfish light up.
Charlie Francis came up with the recipe of the luminous dessert, which costs 140 pounds for a single scoop, after studying jellyfish and persuading experts in China to create the protein, Metro.co.uk reported.
Francis said that the protein used in the ice cream reacts with your tongue at neutral pH, and as your mouth warms up the protein it will raise the pH level and the ice cream will glow. (Ani)...

"Blue Bloods" is getting some new blood, from someone familiar to fans of "Oz" and "Fringe."
Now in its fourth season, the CBS police drama has cast Kirk Acevedo as the brother of Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) -- NYPD detective Danny Reagan's (Donnie Wahlberg) partner -- in the Friday, Nov. 22, episode, Zap2it has learned exclusively. His sudden reappearance is guaranteed to make things less than comfortable for his sister.
They have a strained relationship to begin with, since he's a longtime criminal. He's trying to leave that life behind, but a "wrong place, wrong time" situation keeps him there, likely putting an added strain on Maria's camaraderie with justice-devoted Danny as she struggles with professional duty vs. family loyalty.
The HBO prison drama "Oz" boosted Acevedo's fame through his portrayal of inmate Miguel Alvarez. He worked for the cable network again in the miniseries "Band of Brothers," then was...

Leslie Howard is best known for playing Ashley Wilkes in Gone With The Wind, noble and yet ineffectual against the machinations of Vivien Leigh’s Scarlett. It was a great role, but not one of his best performances; he could be funny, charming, wise, driven, intense, comedic, tragic – take your pick. He had a pale, thin face with a high forehead and a pointed jaw, giving him an intelligent look over which directors loved to throw shadows.
I always thought he was one of those actors that black and white suited better than colour; he looked more handsome, more interesting that way. I was mesmerised by the old movies of his that appeared on television on a Sunday afternoon, where he would...

Fringe 3x15: In Which Little Peter Wants to Go Home and Walternate Gets a Clue
As a sequel to last season’s 'Peter', this week’s 1980’s flashback stood out as one the show’s most poignant, most revealing episodes to date. No gruesome offerings, no FBI interrogations, no lead actors save for John Noble – 'Subject 13' was a stark look back at the six months following Peter’s abduction by Walter from the Other Side.
Things That Made Me Happy (and by happy I mean teary-eyed):
The Teaser – Despite the lack of gruesome or grotesque, the opening sequence was chilling and eerily disturbing as we saw little Peter trail across the icy Reiden Lake in an attempt to go home and Elizabeth Bishop racing to save her ‘son’ from dying a second time. The desperation and sadness really set the tone for the rest of the episode.

Remember when Sam Weiss told Olivia that he’s older than he looks? In Season 2’s “Olivia. In the Lab. With the Revolver” Sam says he’s so old that he can barely remember his childhood. “I’m also taller than I appear,” he adds. I can’t help thinking that we have another Jacob-esque character on our hands, which wouldn’t be a bad thing for Fringe. This show is the quintessential science fiction thriller, questioning the limits of science and cautioning against the danger of advancing technology, but, thus far, it lacks the spiritual-mystery component that made Lost so unique.
Though the mystical side of Lost concluded in a not-so-mysterious way, the timeless questions about the nature of the cosmos echoed throughout the series. As long as they remained unanswered, or at least not definitively answered, the mystery of the show was intact, no matter the scientific and...

Before you delve into this, bear in mind it is me thinking out loud on a page, to see what people think about something I found intriguing.
We are now four episodes into Fringe's third season, and it's about time we started looking forward at what is to come for the season ahead. After all, four episodes into season two, we were given our real sign into where we where headed (literally), as Newton was un-decapitated, William Bell showed up to fill in some of the blanks about the alternate universe and Charlie Francis' imposter was exposed and killed in the corker of an episode that was 'Momentum Deferred.'
It felt kind of poetic that precisely one season after he was introduced, Sebastian Roche's villain, Newton was killed off, despite an outcry in my head that I didn't feel we had had the full potential of,...

Only three episodes into the third season and the Fringe writers are already starting to play with our emotions and, more importantly, our loyalties. Just a few months ago we were convinced all those characters over there were up to no good. I mean, how could they with their ominously advanced technology, questionable hairstyles (Charlie Francis with a buzz-cut? Puh-leez!) and their less-than-friendly welcome to our Fringe team? But after the most recent episode, The Plateau (read our review), we’re starting to second guess. The writers are slowly showing us that some of those alternates aren’t so bad. Despite his Freddy Krueger skin, Agent Lincoln Lee is very likable and Charlie is more-or-less the same guy we know and love. The question is, who are we supposed to root for now? Surely not both of them, right?

Episode Title: "The Plateau"
Written By: Alison Schapker & Monica Owusu-Breen
Story: A series of unfortunate coincidences unfolds in the world of "over there," prompting Fringe Division to investigate the deadly string of events. Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv), now convinced that she's the Olivia of the alternate reality, readjusts to life on the task force alongside partners Charlie Francis (Kirk Acevedo) and Lincoln Lee (Seth Gabel), but a figure from her past wants her to remember the life she's left behind.
Back to Work: It's an odd-numbered episode of "Fringe" season three, so you know what time it is. That's right, it's alternate reality time! Once again, viewers are thrust "over there" where nothing is quite what it seems. Ballpoint pens are apparently a forgotten relic of the past, and there are casually placed locations around New York City where oxygen is virtually non-existent. Just another day in the town, folks.

I have to say I completely agree with Sam’s review about Fringe. It really is the best show on TV right now. Sure it has its ups and downs, but honestly? When they make an effort, Fringe is excellent. Although, really, it is a confusing show. If you’re not up to date with the mythology, you can easily get completely lost in its alternative universes and weird events.
With that said, the producers have been able to give us a really solid narrative that allows you to follow their mind-bending plot twists and double characters. When we last saw our heroes, they were trying to cross over back to what we’re calling “over here”. Olivia and Walter had crossed over to the other universe in order to rescue Peter, who had gone with Walternate (his real father) believing he could help fix his original world. Walternate had...

Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) knows who she is. She knows who her friends are and why she came to the Other Side. And she knows she has to get back. But, unfortunately, she's still Walternate's (John Noble) prisoner, and he's doing everything he can to keep her there. Even if he has to replace her memories, with those of her alternate's. The episodes will alternate between settings, one week in Other Side-verse, the next in Our-vers. In this season opener for one of my favorite shows on TV, Fringe (TV), we see that our Olivia is being told, by one of Walternate's doctors, that she's crazy. Her life, her job, and all of the people she knows on the other side of reality are just figments of her imagination. She belongs there -- or so they say. It seems that Walternate's evil plans include brainwashing our Olivia into becoming her alternate.

Season one of Fringe can only be described as procedural. Sure, each case was connected by the thread that was the Pattern, but for the most part, we were treated to stand-alone cases that were like CSI plus melting brains. That's not a bad thing by any means; Fringe was so well-written and had strong enough characters that each episode was a clear development on the last, making for a brilliant season.
Season two changed up that dynamic, and began to throw in more polarized episodes. Some were more standalone ("Fracture," "White Tulip"), while others were deeply routed in mythology ("Jacksonville," "Over There"), and one didn't even have a case ("Peter"). That's when the series really hit its stride critically, and became one of the best shows on television.
Season three looks to change up that dynamic even further, it appears. Sources claim that, with Olivia trapped in the alternate universe by Walternate,...

Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson) flies over the alter-nyc in a helicopter, getting an electronic run-down on all of the problems set into motion the day his father, Walter (John Noble) crossed over to take him as a child. It’s a sobering sight, holes of temporal instabilities, Fringe-like catastrophes on a larger scale than the ones he’s seen on the other side. I doubt the burden of guilt could get much bigger for the poor guy...but, this is Fringe (TV). Just wait. Olivia (Anna Torv) and William Bell (Leonard Nimoy) have located Walter in a local hospital and spring him just before alter-Olivia and side-kick, Agent Charlie Francis (Kirk Acevedo) can arrive to stop them. They must find Peter in order to stop him from being the catalyst that will bring about the collision of the two universes, and some how re-open the door to their side...

Hot diggity dog, that was a stellar episode of Fringe.and a rather mind-blowing start to the two-part Season 2 finale! Last night in the first half of "Over There," up was down, right was wrong, black was white (as far as Alt-livia's lingerie was concerned), white was black (in terms of the President on the $20 bill), and supernatural phenomena were "natural disasters." Episode Title: "Over There, Part 1 of 2"
Written By: J.H. Wyman & Jeff Pinkner & Akiva Goldsman
Story: Peter Bishop has gone over to the alternate reality to join his real family in a world where Walternate has great influence. In light of Peter's disappearance, a distraught Walter realizes that his "son" has the potential to bring about the end of the world, leading to a daring infiltration into the alternate reality to rescue Peter.
But the plan hinges on the assistance of an incommunicado William Bell, leading to some unexpected consequences for several characters.

It hardly seems like it's time, does it? Fringe's second (and best) season is drawing to a close, beginning on May 13 with "Over There, Part 1." And folks, it looks like a good one. It looks like we'll finally get to see Olivia cross over to the other dimension, and it doesn't exactly look like a fun place. First of all, Olivia's ginger. Not that I have anything against gingers — I'm a ginger myself — but Olivia just doesn't look right with red hair. Just like Charlie Francis doesn't look right bald. But Phillip Broyles certainly looks badass in the alternate universe, I'll give him that.
But first, there's the question of getting to the alternate universe. That's going to involve getting some of the Jacksonville kids back together, including Nick Lane from last season's "Bad Dreams." Last time we saw him, he was being put into a medically-induced coma and...

Genetic mutations, anti-matter devices, telekinesis...and now a musical. Fringe has finally out done itself with its exploration into the bizarre and inexplicable. Because the execs at Fox know that musical numbers equal ratings, thanks to American Idol and Glee, we will be treated to Fringe: The Musical or "Brown Betty" as the episode is titled, as part of Fox Rocks Week. Despite the obvious play by the nework to turn the Glee/Idol crowd into Fringe fans, executive producer, Jeff Pinker told EW's Michael Ausiello, "We didn’t set out to do a musical, we set out to do an episode that explored Walter’s state of mind — he’s dealing with some very upsetting news. When we realized that the way Walter would deal with such news would be to try to anesthetize himself with copious amounts of marijuana, well, singing and dancing became a natural outcome.

Back in January, I unleashed upon you a myriad of spoilery goodness for the season premiere of Lost, "La X, Part 1." The quiz game proved to be both a lot of fun to create and a lot of fun for you to solve, so I'm doing it again in hopes that lightning can indeed strike twice in the same place.
This time, the episode we're looking at is "Peter," the spring premiere of Fringe. Having seen the episode, I have to say that it's one of the best episodes of the show ever, and you'll definitely want to tune in on April 1 to see what happens. Until then, here's just a little taste of what's to come, with ten questions revolving around some of the plot points of the episode. Of course, I won't tell you whether or not your guesses are right or wrong, but you're free to discuss them in the comments,...

Tonight's episode is the penultimate episode before the long, seven-week break that will make room for their new drama Past Life. Next week's "Jacksonville," will be the last episode until April 1, when the episode "Peter" will air. The simply titled episode is likely to be one of the most revelatory episodes regarding the younger Bishop since we found out that he was taken from this universe in the season one finale, "There's More Than One of Everything" (Fringe seems to veer between really long and really short titles, doesn't it?).
So what major revelations will "Peter" bring? “It’s a window into the mysteries of Peter that have been promised since the first season,” Akiva Goldsman told Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello. “It’s an episode that’s fundamentally about his relationship to Walter and the truth of where they are right now, which is pretty revelatory to the characters and hopefully the audience.

We're well into January, and that means that we're close to having reruns and crappy "investigative" news specials replaced with the kind of distracting scripted television shows we like to shut out the world with.
A few — Leverage and Fringe, for example — have already kicked into gear with new episodes. Most others will be back up before the end of the month.
Here's a list of some favourites I'm looking forward to watching again, and a few others that you might like, even if I could care less. Today, we're listing in alphabetical order. Broadcasting networks are listed in brackets, U.S. first and Canada second, if there is a network in Canada with rights to the show in question.

This review may contain spoilers. After a break from the actual season, "Fringe" returned with a (real) new episode this Thursday. Note how it actually took place in the continuity that we've come to know this season, note how it doesn't have Charlie Francis strutting about town or season one hair styles and note how it makes a lot more sense. Of course, it wouldn't be a real 2010 episode of "Fringe" with at least a little strangeness surrounding the actual episode itself. The episode was originally titled "Edina City Limits," pretty straightforward title without betraying any of the episode's plot. Eventually, the title was changed to "Johari Window" -- a title which Wikipedia helps in explaining the concept much better; a Johari window apparently helps to compare self-perception ...

Two things connected Castle and a special, Monday night episode of Fringe last week. The first: a rose. The second, and more interesting, love triangles with men at the centre.
Fillion and Milano, sitting in a tree ...
For a couple of months, Nathan Fillion has been Tweeting about how much he enjoyed working with guest star Alyssa Milano. To the point where he's pledged to find a way to get her and her character back on the show.
Given the chemistry between the two of them on "A Rose for Everafter", which aired this week, Castle producers should pay attention.
Milano was playing Kyra Blaine, Castle's love from long ago, "the one that got away". She was, of course, connected to a murder mystery. In this case, the violent death of one of her bridesmaids. There was some kind of money and inheritance involved, and the culprit wasn't who you expected it would be.

"Unearthed" is a straggler from the series' shortened first season, and one has to wonder just why Fox would even air this episode. The cliff hanger at the end of the episode could imply that the show will return to this plot point later in the season, but it's really just a standalone until proven otherwise. This is an episode that tackles religion, particularly religion versus science. When 17-year-old Lisa Donovan mysteriously comes back from the dead, she returns with a few new skills, like the ability to spontaneously start speaking Russian or see dead people. The Fringe Division -- complete with a living Charlie Francis (Kirk Acevedo) and a first ...

Ok, first of all, thank God for Twitter. When Charlie Francis showed up in a scene, I immediately turned to my Twitter friends and said, "What the heck?! Someone please explain why Charlie is here when I thought both Good Charlie and Evil Charlie were dead and gone."
About 500 other people were asking the same question, and a few smart ones gave us the answer: It's an unaired episode from season one. That's what they said. I can't confirm or deny, but it makes sense. Doesn't it seem weird, though, to air such an old episode? Why not just put it on the DVD rather than confuse us? Whatever. More after the jump.

Episode Title: "Unearthed"
Written By: Josh Singer
Synopsis: A teenage girl is taken off of life support after being declared brain dead, only to awaken in the midst of surgery spouting out an alphanumeric code and showcasing a newfound fluency in Russian. When it becomes apparent that the girl is sharing knowledge with a missing soldier, Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) and Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson) investigate the mystery while Walter Bishop (John Noble) posits his own theories.
Blast From The Past: As expected, "Unearthed" was a bizarre and unnecessary episode rooted in the first season's continuity where Charlie Francis (Kirk Acevedo) is still alive, the alternate world is hardly known and Astrid Farnsworth (Jasika Nicole) once again has nothing to do. For those that aren't aware, "Unearthed" was filmed during season one but somehow got lost in the shuffle, so here it is now. Like I said, bizarre.

So you've heard of the special Fringe episode, right? The one from season 1 that was never aired? Fox has decided to air it on January 11th (there's also another new episode of Fringe on January 14th – check out promo photos for the episode).
Fox has now released promo photos for the special unseen episode, which you can view below.
Girl With Unexpected Ties To A Missing Soldier Requires Some Fringe Intervention On A Special Unearthed Episode From Season One Of “Fringe” Airing For First Time Monday, January 11, On Fox
After a teenage girl is pronounced brain dead, her mother takes her off life support, but when doctors operate quickly to remove her organs, the deceased girl shockingly awakens screaming an alphanumeric code. Equally as perplexing as her resurrection is that she is now somehow able to speak Russian and possesses classified information only a high-ranking soldier would know. While the girl’s mind-bending condition intensifies,...

Today, Fox released the new press release for Fringe's unaired episode from season one, "Unearthed." It feautred the general Fringeesque storyline about a girl who was thought to be brain-dead waking up, speaking alphanumeric code, and suddenly knowing all kinds of classified information. It sounds like an average Fringe episode from season one (not a bad thing, mind you, just not as good as the content we've been getting in season two), but the press release then says that "Unearthed" may not be from season one, or from season two. It may in fact be from an alternate universe, the press release claims.

Fox will be airing a 'new' episode of Fringe this January, a season one episode that was allegedly – and inexplicably – "lost" and recently recovered. The episode will feature Charlie Francis (played by Kirk Acevedo), who was killed off early in season two. The plotline centers around a teenager who, when taken off life support after an accident, suddenly wakes up, speaking Russian and with a surprising knowledge of classified Russian secrets. There are so many reasons that I think this is a marketing trick. First off, a "lost" episode of a Jj Abrams show just in time for the final season of his other show, Lost? Second, the episode is entitled Unearthed – that...

"Fringe" is a show that's built entirely on the idea of opposing alternate realities, and that central premise is about to leak over into our realm of reality.
According to Sci Fi Wire, Fox has decided to air an episode of "Fringe" titled "Unearthed" on Monday, January 11th, in an effort to combat NBC's "Heroes" return. The catch? "Unearthed," while a new episode for viewers, is hardly a new episode for the "Fringe" cast and crew — it was originally filmed as a season one episode.
"Rumors had floated around that there was a missing ['Fringe'] episode that had been filmed in season one but had never aired. Well, those rumors are true," reports Sci Fi Wire. "There's no explanation from Fox as to why the episode was never aired, although their theory is 'Is it from an alternate universe?'"

Many fans have been begging Fox to move "Fringe" out of what they are calling a death slot in the middle of Thursday programming with some of the biggest competition there is. And Fox seems to be listening. At least for a single week. "Fringe" will get a chance to lead-out from "House" on Fox Jan. 11 with a previously unaired episode from the first season called "Unearthed," according to The Fringe Report. The mythology obviously will be a little bit off from where it left off a couple weeks ago, and even will even have an appearance by Kirk Acevedo as Agent Charlie Francis, who was killed off at the beginning of the second season and replaced for a short time by a shapeshifter from Overthere. Unfortunately, Fox doesn't plan on keeping the "House"/"Fringe" coupling permanent. The slot, ...

Episode Title: "Snakehead"
Written By: David Wilcox
Synopsis: When a boatload of Chinese refugees washes ashore in Massachusetts — apparently killed by four foot long worm-like parasites — the Fringe Team is understandably called into action. Throughout the investigation, Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble) strives for independence from his son Peter (Joshua Jackson) and lab technician Astrid Farnsworth (Jasika Nicole), though his desire to be on his own leads both Peter and Astrid into harm's way.
Don't Drink the Worm: I'm not sure that tonight's episode of "Fringe" surpassed my irrational fear of alien chestbursters, but it sure came close. There's absolutely nothing appetizing or fun about the idea of massive worms growing inside you and then bursting out of your face. On that front alone, I give the latest "Fringe" a major pat on the back for delivering an absolutely grotesque mystery of the week — even if the actual plot surrounding...

The November 19th new episode of Fringe is Observer-centric. I posted promo photos for the episode a while ago and now, thanks to EW, we have the first 2 1/2 minutes of the episode for you to enjoy. You can also view a promo.
Interesting to note, Kirk Acevedo is listed in the cast, so I wonder if he'll be making an appearance or whether that's just an oversight.

When they say absence makes the heart grow fonder, they were talking about Fringe. After taking a few weeks off for Baseball, Fringe returns to Fox with a run of brand new episodes for November sweeps. Kicking things off is the curiously titled "Earthling". Curious in that the title could be perceived as suggesting someone in the episode is Not an 'Earthling,' and Fringe has thus far avoided anything more than the very vague notion of aliens. Whether or not there is an alien encounter in this week's Fringe remains to be seen, but if you are looking for a sneak peek at the episode – that's another matter all together. Episode Title: "Dream Logic"
Written by: Josh Singer
The Story: The team is sent out to Seattle to investigate mysterious murders inflicted by people in a waking-dream state. Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble) returns to his lab in Boston to experiment on one of the killers' corpses, making a startling discovery that Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) and Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson) have to follow up on. Meanwhile, Olivia deals with the ramifications of an old friend's death.
A Literal Snooze Fest: This latest episode was all about dreams, which was pretty ironic considering it nearly put me to sleep. Not that this was a particularly bad episode, just a bland one. I'm most intrigued by "Fringe" when the overarching plot is at play, like last week's tremendously awesome episode. This week, I guess I was fine with it — thanks largely due to the cool effects seen in the accidental killers'...

Episode Title: "Momentum Deferred"
Written by: Ashley Miller & Zack Stentz
The Story: More shape-shifters from an alternate universe begin to emerge, with an odd proclivity for collecting frozen human heads. While Walter Bishop (John Noble) and his son Peter (Joshua Jackson) try and find a way to identify the shape-shifters, Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) finally recalls the entirety of her conversation with the elusive, reclusive Dr. William Bell (Leonard Nimoy).
For Whom The Bell Tolls: Well, wow. That was certainly worth the wait. Based on their conversation, Dr. Bell is potentially permanently bound to the alternate universe. Not only that, but his longstanding relationship with Olivia served a very profound purpose — according to Bell, his and Walter's experiments on Olivia were to shape her into "a guardian, someone to watch the gate between this side and [hers]." While it's not exactly news that Olivia is to "Fringe" as Neo was to "The Matrix,...

Episode Title: "Fracture"
Written by: David Wilcox
The Story: An apparent suicide bombing takes place in Pennsylvania, but there are no traces of explosives. The strange incident sends Agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) and Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson) across the globe to Iraq to solve the deadly mystery. At the same time, Olivia struggles with her continued memory loss, currently manifesting in the form of vicious headaches. Walter was on fire this week. Among the best Fringe quotes from the evening:
Peter: How's it going, Walter?
Walter: I plan to urinate in 23 minutes.
Peter: Good to know.
Walter: I'm telling you because I'm going to need help unzipping my fly. I can't feel my hand. | permalink Sheriff Golightly: Be damned if I...
