A unique combination of circumstances led to him landing in Bombay soon after the Partition and being tasked with directing a film, though his cinematic experience was limited to being a film journalist. He even managed to rope in a top actor – and on the very first day, questioned his rendition of a crucial scene.
Recalling the episode decades later, veteran Hindi film director and producer B.R. Chopra revealed that Ashok Kumar, who had somehow agreed to act in the film despite his misgivings at its totally green director, was taken aback.
“He then suggested that he would do the shot again in the way I suggested, and prints of both this and the way he had done, should be made, and he would check them the next day to see which was better,” he told Bollywood personality and chronicler Shashi Ranjan in an interview.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Had An Ugly BreakUp With Salman Khan, Followed By Vivek Oberoi. (Photo Credit – IMDb/Instagram)
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has always been a woman of dignity and substance. She has never crossed her line in front of the camera; neither has she ever behaved unreasonably. In fact, she has always maintained a one-arm distance from speaking or ill-commenting about anything.
She came forward only a few times in her life when she opened the Pandora box. For the first time, when she decided to give a tell-all interview against Salman Khan, where she literally announced her break up officially.
She tried to ignore talking about him on Koffee with Karan but did talk about her misunderstanding with Sanjay Leela Bhansali when they both graced the couch. She even talked about how she was replaced in films in an interview with Simi Garewal. However, it doesn’t mean whatever happened did not bother her.

If India ever had a star, it was Dev Anand. He was the mould in which subsequent generations of stars were cast. Dev Anand was born Dharamdev on September 26, 1923, in the Shakargarh tehsil of Gurdaspur district of Punjab. His father Pishori Lal Anand was a successful advocate and a follower of Mahatma Gandhi. Dev, the third of four brothers, graduated with English Honours from Government College, Lahore. He moved over to Bombay to join his older brother Chetan, who was trying to get a break in films.

While it is known that everyone has a time, nothing prepares us for losing those who are family and those who we have come to admire. While he may have been a bigger name even before I was born the name of Rishi Kapoor was an inheritance from my parents, who they themselves grew up in cinema halls watching his films and passing those memories onto me by showing me those films in whatever the technology of the time. For me, Rishi Kapoor was not the first dancing star, but he was the first to make it important for the hero to be able to dance.

The first time I spoke to the great Rishi Kapoor, he was running around trying to promote his directorial debut Aa Ab Laut Chalen. A mutual friend, Simi Garewal, introduced us and I spoke to him over the landline (there were no cellphones back then) at a recording studio.
He was polite and warm and I immediately liked him. But our very next telephonic interview where he spoke at length on many topics and said some harsh but true things about his pal Jeetendra’s daughter Ekta Kapoor, was a misfire.
The next morning he was on the phone berating me, “Arrey yaar yeh tumne kya likh diya.”
I couldn’t get it then. But I came to terms with it eventually. He would say things in the heat of the moment and then regret it and blame it on the writer(me). One night after a commercial actor won...

EntertainmentThe deleted scene involves Gemini Ganesan’s daughter Rekha who was born out of his relationship with Pushpavalli. Digital NativeDigital NativeMahanati, the biopic on the legendary actor Savitri, released to both critical acclaim and commercial success. The film threw light on Savitri’s life as an actor and her relationship with her husband and actor Gemini Ganesan, a legend in his own right. While there have been various controversies about the film with Gemini’s daughter through his first wife Alamelu, Dr Kamala Selvaraj claiming that her father was shown in poor light, the makers have now released a deleted scene from the film which shows Rekha and her mother Pushpavalli meeting Savitri and her daughter Vijaya Chamundeswari at their residence during the Navratri pooja. It is well known that Gemini was in a relationship with Pushpavalli when he was married to both Alamelu and Savitri and had two children out of it. Rekha, a popular Bollywood actor, had revealed that she never enjoyed a good relationship with her father and Gemini Ganesan, on the other hand, never acknowledged her as his daughter. In an interview with Simi Garewal, Rekha, when asked about her father, had said, “If you don’t taste something, you don’t know what it means. I didn’t know what the word “father” meant.” When Khalid Mohammed interviewed her in 2015, her perspective about her father seemed to have changed slightly as she said, “I adored my father but there was a distance which could never be covered. My father (Gemini Ganesan) wrote poetry fluidly, he was a man of literature. As an actor, he was a heartthrob for decades.” Rekha is an established actor in Bollywood with a number of hit movies to her credit. She made her acting debut in the Telugu film industry as a child artiste and went on to become a star in the Indian film industry. A talented actor, she has won numerous awards in her career. In celebration of Lord Shiva’s Maha Shivratri, one of the most prominent festivals of the Hindu calendar, we bring you some of our favourite Lord Shiva related Bollywood songs.
As we explore a few of the different shades that Bollywood has celebrated Lord Shiva through, we take you on a very quick journey beginning in 1950, with the song “Bhole nath se nirala” to end with Koyla’s (1997) mischievous “Bhang Ke Nashe Mein”.
Known by at least 1008 different names, including “Kailas” (One who bestows Peace), “Shambu” (Source of everything) and “Hari” (Sustainer and Destroyer), Lord Shiva is said to have married Parvarti on Maha Shivratri. Other readings of Hinduism state that Maha Shivratri is the night on which Shiva performed “Tandava” – the dance that led to the creation, conservation and destruction of the Universe.

Subhash Ghai has a tradition of building memorable characters on screen, from Ajit in Kalicharan to Anupam Kher in Karma to Simi Garewal in Karz. This stems from one of the core beliefs of Subhash Ghai, which is every character is important and no role is big or small.
One of the main reasons for the success of the characters in Subhash Ghai films is the excellent casting. “Saara shehar mujhe Lion ke naam se jaanta hai” is a line that one cannot imagine coming anyone else but Ajit . “Is thappad ki goonj suni tumne?” has been immortalized by Anupam Kher and has been repeated every time there has been a slap. Gulshan Grover who was an upcoming actor saw his career’s breakthrough performance as Kesariya Vilayati in Ram Lakhan and came to be known as the “Bad Man” in Bollywood after his lines from the film.
