It’s Alien crossed with Mad Max, and Demi Moore plays a lemon farmer. We look back at the 1982 sci-fi horror, Parasite...
All Hollywood stars have to start somewhere, and there are plenty of A-listers with low-budget B-movies in their early histories. A teenage Leonardo DiCaprio made an appearance in Critters 3; Kevin Bacon was a memorable victim in the original Friday The 13th. Then there's Parasite: a bargain-basement sci-fi horror that cheerfully slams together two popular 70s staples: Cronenbergian body horror and George Miller-style post-apocalypse. Oh, and Demi Moore makes her feature film debut as Patricia, who grows lemons.

I hate musicals. I never watched Glee. I only thought Once More With Feeling was okay. I like Crazy Ex-Girlfriend in theory but haven't watched since midway through the first season. I fell asleep trying to watch La La Land and the odds of me giving it another chance are directly proportional to whether or not my parents want to watch it when I'm visiting them. Needless to say, I'm not the target audience for Duet.
And, I mean, it's cool if you are. It's just that despite the countless hours that I, too, spent as a child watching musicals with my parents, it's the one piece...

The Raid remake is pressing ahead with Captain America's Frank Grillo and director Joe Carnahan...
Sitting in front of a Guys And Dolls poster, director Joe Carnahan and star Frank Grillo have just confirmed via Instagram that they’re now working on the American remake of Gareth Evans’ stunning action movie, The Raid.

If you’ve seen The Raid, you don’t need us to tell you that it’s some bar that Carnahan has set himself here. Both fine films.

As the Epic Movie team announce they have Star Wars in their sights, might we have a chat about Mel Brooks' Spaceballs, amongst others?
Readers of this site may have read last week's news that there's to be a new Star Wars spoof. This film comes from the team who brought us Date Movie, Epic Movie, and apparently something called The Starving Games which blissfully passed me by. Jason Friedberg and Aaron Selzer make relatively cheap movies that, despite critical maulings, tend to make money at the box office. When I worked at a cinema, an eleven year old boy went to see Meet The Spartans three times, proclaiming it the best film he had ever seen.

Rob counts down the top 50 episodes of TV's longest-running animated series, The Simpsons...
Since its debut in 1989, across 552 episodes and 25 seasons, The Simpsons has become one of the most revered and beloved TV programmes of all time. It’s a true cultural phenomenon that’s influenced not just animation, but all areas of TV comedy and sitcom. For so many of us, its quotes and catchphrases have permeated our everyday vernacular, from single words like “crisitunity” and “embiggen” to phrases “you don’t win friends with salad” and “everything’s coming up Milhouse.”
Personal opinions may vary, but for me the show’s peak years were from season 4 through to 10. They’re consistently funny, all killer and no filler runs with barely a dud episode to be found between 1992-1998. Past this point the standard becomes a little more mixed, and recent seasons have been distinctly average at best. The...

Fox studio has its eye on Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt to star as Nathan Detroit and Sky Masterson in a remake of the classic musical Guys and Dolls. There’s no director or writer attached yet to Fox’s new Guys and Dolls film. The involvement of Tatum and Gordon-Levitt depends on the script and who the director is. As for the two of the hottest young stars in Hollywood right now, they should have no problem singing and dancing on the big screen at all (from the Oscars to ‘Saturday Night Live’). Besides, the killer pair have worked together before in G.I. Joe: The Rise...

Guys And Dolls actress Jean Simmons has died at the age of 80.
The British star, who had been suffering from lung cancer for some time, passed away at her home in Santa Monica, California on Friday, a week before her 81st birthday, according to her agent.
Simmons rose to fame playing Estella in 1946 movie Great Expectations, she then went on to secure a string of leading Hollywood parts, including a role in Laurence Olivier's 1948 film Hamlet, for which she gained an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Ophelia. She received a second Oscar nod for 1969's Happy Ending.
Simmons is also known for appearing opposite Marlon Brando in 1955's Guys and Dolls, and Kirk Douglas in 1960's Spartacus.
The legendary actress married twice - once to British actor Stewart Granger, who she met while filming Cleopatra, before divorcing after ten years in 1960. The pair had one daughter, Tracy, together.
She then went on to marry director Richard Brooks the same year. They also had a daughter, Kate, but the couple divorced in 1977.
