Rising young German actor Daniel Brühl ("Inglourious Basterds") has booked two new projects - "Der Ganz Grosse Traum des Konrad Koch" and "Canal" reports Oh No They Didn't via The Playlist
Sebastian Grobler makes his directorial debut on 'Koch', a based on real events story about an English teacher who takes up a position at a strict German school in 1874. The unorthodox Koch soon teaches them the strange English game of "football." Burghart Klaussner ("The White Ribbon") and Justus von Dohnanyi ("Men in the City") also star.
The story of Sebastian Mantilla’s "Canal" isn't known, but filming on it kicks off in December while Maria De Medeiros and Pilar Andrés also star.

In the wake of Inglourious Basterds, Daniel Brühl hasn't been nearly as speedy in booking new roles as other breakouts like Christoph Waltz and Michael Fassbender. That might be in part because those two actors overshadowed him slightly, but Brühl's turn as a German sniper hero was certainly impressive, and a linchpin of the film. Now he's got two new projects booked. Details on those, plus tales of four great actors vying for the lead in The Sweeney, after the break. Ontd, via The Playlist, reports that Brühl will play a teacher who brought soccer to Germany (ideal timing to announce that) and will also be the lead in Canal. The soccer film, Der Ganz Grosse Traum des Konrad Koch, is directed by newcomer Sebastian Grobler, and is described as such: "Loosely based on real events, the film is a "Dead Poet's Society" style tale of an English teacher who...

Cologne, Germany – Daniel Bruhl is set to star in a soccer-themed period film about the man who brought the beautiful game to Germany.
The "Inglourious Basterds" star will play teacher Konrad Koch in "Der Ganz Grosse Traum des Konrad Koch," the debut feature from director Sebastian Grobler.
Loosely based on real events, the film is a "Dead Poet's Society" style tale of an English teacher who takes up a position at a strict, German school in 1874. The unorthodox Koch captures his pupils' imagination by teaching them the strange English game of "football."
English fans probably rue that day. In its World Cup match with England last week, the German team soundly defeated soccer's mother country 4-1.
"Konrad Koch" also stars Burghart Klaussner ("The White Ribbon") and Justus von Dohnanyi ("Men in the City"). Anatol Nitschke of Berlin-based deutschfilm is producing together with Raoul Reinert of Cuckoo Clock Entertainment and Senator Film's Helge Sasse.
