As the film that bridges the two decades of Mario Bava’s output as a director, 1970’s Hatchet for the Honeymoon feels strangely trapped between two worlds. It contains the traces of gothic horror with which Bava made his name, as well as elements of the supernatural and the psychosexual leanings of the giallo genre he more or less helped create. At the same time, it’s steeped in dazzling colors and psychedelia—it feels seedier than his usual output even though it’s far less graphic than some of his other works.

This week, for the second time in five years, jurors returned guilty verdicts against a New York man who fatally shot his mother, stepfather and stepbrother during the summer of 2011, People confirms.
A court official tells People that Matthew Slocum was convicted Tuesday of all charges, including second-degree murder, arson, tampering with evidence, petit larceny and weapons possession, and now faces at least 75 years behind bars when he is sentenced on July 14.
He could be sentenced to a life term. The jury deliberated for nearly six hours before returning the verdicts, according to the court official. (Neither prosecutors nor Slocum...

‘Game of Thrones’ Star Kit Harrington Talks Toilets, Ancestry, and Crappy Aspects of His Job (Video)
Ever wonder how Kit Harrington’s “Game of Thrones” character, Jon Snow, has managed to survive three whole seasons? Maybe it’s because the creators, writers and producers are eternally grateful to the actor’s ancestor, along with the rest of the civilized world. “You might have the greatest thing ever in your family tree,” Jimmy Kimmel said on his ABC late-night show on Tuesday. “My family is very, very grateful to your great grandfather on a daily basis.” “His name was John Harrington. He lived in the 1600s, and he invented the toilet,” Harrington explained. “Thus why it’s called,...

A staff shake-up in the celebrity magazine market could be good news for celebrities hoping for less salacious coverage of their personal lives.
People magazine senior staffer Alexis Chiu is heading for Bauer Publishing’s In Touch magazine to take on the job of executive editor, according to the New York Post, at the same time that Bauer's Life & Style Editor-in-Chief Dan Wakeford will also be the head of sister pub In Touch.
This magazine version of musical chairs could be beneficial for the Bauer publications.
"As People is perceived as the nice tabloid, the best of a bad bunch by most celebrities and agents, I'd say Bauer's poaching means they want to send a message: We can be trusted; we can be classy -- something they've battled with since launching," said Sarah Ivens Moffet, the founding editor of Ok! Magazine and author of the new memoir "Amerikarma."

Oh Clyde. Fear not. Your mother, Betsey Donovan, did not die in vain. Her passing taught us all a valuable lesson: What that shelf behind toilet seats is really for.
No, not for housing any plumbing equipment. It's somewhere to place your comic books while you straddle your toilet seat "Reverse Cowgirl" style. Oh, and what a glory hole is really for. Hint: not your penis.
Clearly Matt Stone and Trey Parker have been dealing with a combination of some nagging girlfriends and your standard air travel violations. Strapping yourself in to your toilet after having your anus inspected? Only slightly less painful than air travel or "The Entity."
I thought the shots at Tsa, although not as timely as some other South Park efforts, were pretty hilarious.
Obviously things were a satire to some of the more recent changes at airports, from the inappropriate pat downs to the full body x-rays.

The term “giallo” initially referred to cheap yellow paperbacks (printed American mysteries from writers such as Agatha Christie), that were distributed in post-fascist Italy. Applied to cinema, the genre is comprised of equal parts early pulp thrillers, mystery novels, with a willingness to gleefully explore onscreen sex and violence in provocative, innovative ways. Giallos are strikingly different from American crime films: they value style and plot over characterization, and tend towards unapologetic displays of violence, sexual content, and taboo exploration. The genre is known for stylistic excess, characterized by unnatural yet intriguing lighting techniques, convoluted plots, red herrings, extended murder sequences, excessive bloodletting, stylish camerawork and unusual musical arrangements. Amidst the ‘creative kill’ set-pieces are thematic undercurrents along with a whodunit element, usually some sort of twist ending. Here is my list of the best giallo films – made strictly by Italian directors, so don’t expect Black Swan, Amer or...
