It's no secret that "Blade Runner 2049" is a VFX masterclass. Denis Villeneuve's long-awaited sequel to the 1982 sci-fi classic "Blade Runner" showcases exactly what can be accomplished by filmmakers with a keen eye and a good visual effects team. The film's VFX even won big at the Academy Awards.
As well as picking up Best Cinematography for Roger Deakins, the film also won Best Visual Effects for the work of John Nelson, Gerd Nefzer, Paul Lambert, and Richard R. Hoover. It's no surprise, of course, "Blade Runner 2049" includes some of the most visually striking effects work in modern cinema, especially those beautiful scenes of...

The 90th Academy Awards has concluded and I think a lot of movie geeks are happy with the way things played out! I couldn't be more excited to see Guillermo del Toro win Best Director and his film The Shape of Water win Best Picture of the year!
We also saw Gary Oldman win Best Actor, which he definitely deserved! Frances McDormand, took home the Best Actress Award and Sam Rockwell won for Best Supporting Actor for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Then there was Jordan Peele, who won Best Original Screenplay for Get Out, which so freakin' cool!
Personally, the one film that I didn't think should have won was Call Me By Your Name for Best Adapted Screenplay. Molly's Game, Logan, Mudbound, and The Disaster Artist were all better films with better scripts!
Below you'll find a full list of the nominees with the winners bolded. Are you happy with the winners?...

The biggest craft stories of the 90th Academy Awards: Cinematographer Roger Deakins finally winning the Oscar (after 14 nominations) for “Blade Runner 2049,” and the Denis Villeneuve-directed “Blade Runner” sequel upsetting “War for the Planet of the Apes” for VFX.
Deakins, the greatest cinematographer of his generation, was honored at long last for his naturalistic brilliance, making the “Blade Runner” universe adapt to his aesthetic, and putting his unmistakable imprint on every visual aspect, including VFX. And “Blade Runner 2049” honored the legacy of Ridley Scott’s iconic original by limiting green screen, keeping sets close to camera, and making it look photographic. Yet the sequel also offered a major step in digital human animation with the recreation of Sean Young’s Rachael replicant.
However, with a third consecutive VFX loss for “Apes,” the Academy once again denied Weta Digital the Oscar for its remarkable Caesar (Andy Serkis) and Bad...

Best Picture: “The Shape of Water”
Noah Arlington: Knew it. Congrats to Shape of Water
Lord Freddy Blackfyre: Take that SAG stat
Nate: I can’t believe that only 6 women won Oscars tonight, 2 in categories specifically designated for women.
Eddy Q: We’re back to Best Director being more significant for Best Picture than screenplay awards. It had been the other way round for a while.
Best Actress: Frances McDormand (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”)
Miles: Nice way of playing off Foster’s injury.

It is not really difficult in coming up with cinema siblings and assessing their impact on the films they graced with humor, horror or hedonism. Whatever the combination–brother and sister, brother and brother, sister and sister–the big screen has always produced some of the most compelling siblings to entertain or shock us as the lights go dim at the local cinemaplex.
So who do you favor as your all-time favorite movie siblings? Perhaps you wouldn’t mind brothers Michael and Sam from 1987′s The Lost Boys? Or how about sisters Drizella and Anastasia from the 1950 animated film Cinderella? Maybe you could go for the transformation of television’s Brady kids into the film version of 1995′s The Brady Bunch Movie?

Hero is a word we hear often in sports, but heroism is not always about achievements on the field of play. “42″ tells the story of two men—the great Jackie Robinson and trailblazing Brooklyn Dodgers Gm Branch Rickey—whose brave stand against prejudice forever changed the world by changing the game of baseball. From Academy Award® winner Brian Helgeland (“L.A. Confidential”) comes the real-life drama “42,” starring Chadwick Boseman (“The Express”) as Jackie Robinson and Oscar® nominee Harrison Ford (“Witness”) as Branch Rickey. In 1947, Branch Rickey put himself at the forefront of history when he signed Jackie Robinson to the Brooklyn Dodgers, breaking Major League Baseball’s infamous color line. But the deal also put both Robinson and Rickey in the firing line of the public, the press and other players. Facing blatant racism from every side, even his own team, Robinson was forced to demonstrate tremendous courage and restraint by not reacting in kind,...

Sony Pictures announced soon after the release of the first movie, that they were going to be making a Smurfs sequel...and I died just a little bit inside. Well, Sony has now announced that they've made good on that promise and production on the second film has officially started.
I haven't enjoyed any of the cartoons turned live-action hybrid movies that have come out (Yogi, Chipmunks, and Smurfs). They felt hollow to me and a mere shadow of what made the original cartoons such classics. Part of that is the writing/story, but it's also in the fact that they're taking them out of the cartoon setting and into the 'real' world.
The worse part, for me, is that the damn things keep making a lot of money! So the studios are encouraged to keep pumping them out. Anyway, the press release came out this morning that production had commenced on the film,...

Chicago – Here is an alleged family film made with all the heart and invention of a cynical business deal. Not a single person involved in the production appears to have any concept of what constitutes quality family entertainment. It’s essentially 103 minutes of product placement, with the biggest product being the Smurfs. There’s also room for Rock Band, Google, M&Ms, the Blue Man Group and every single business located on Times Square.
Unlike James Bobin’s marvelously heartfelt comedy, “The Muppets,” which dug deep into the spirit of Jim Henson’s original work, Raja Gosnell’s “The Smurfs” uses Peyo’s beloved characters as mere vessels for stale cultural references. Just as “Star Wars” led to the dumbing down of mainstream American cinema, the Genie in Disney’s “Aladdin” inspired generations of lazy filmmakers to construct entire kiddie franchises out of stitched-together homages and in-jokes. Once Smurfette (voiced by Katy Perry) quips,...
