John Boyega wants to discuss the good book with you. Which book am I talking about? The Book of Eli, of course! Whispers around the watercooler imply that Boyega is prepping a prequel series based on 2010’s The Book of Eli. According to Deadline, Boyega will play a younger version of Eli, the character played by Denzel Washington in the Albert Hughes and Allen Hughes-directed film. Adding authenticity to the project is The Book of Eli writer Gary Whitta, who will create/write/executive produce the upcoming prequel series. The Book of Eli prequel series comes from Alcon Entertainment. They’ll bring the show to market to land a premium streaming venue.
In The Book of Eli, a drifter fights across a ravaged, post-apocalyptic America while protecting a sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity’s salvation. The story takes place 30 years after a nuclear catastrophe resulting in an ecocide.

Exclusive: John Boyega is set to headline and executive produce The Book of Eli, a TV series prequel to the 2010 post-apocalyptic action film that starred Denzel Washington in the title role, Deadline has learned. Boyega will play younger version of Washington’s Eli in the project, which hails from the movie’s writer, Gary Whitta, creator/writer/executive producer of the potential series, and its directors, the Hughes brothers, who executive produce. The film’s producer Alcon Entertainment is the studio on the TV project, which is about to be taken out to select premium buyers, I hear.
The neo-Western Book of Eli movie takes place 30 years after a nuclear catastrophe caused an ecocide. It revolves around Eli (Washington), a nomad who fights his way across a ravaged, post-apocalyptic America while protecting a sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity’s salvation.

Sometimes when you’re a cinematographer, the goal is to produce the richest and most exquisite possible look. Other times, it might be the opposite. The latter was the case for Pal Ulvik Rokseth, the Norwegian-born Dp who was tasked with producing the most downscale view of New York City possible for the three-part Peacock miniseries “The Continental: From the World of John Wick.” For this 1970s era prequel, Rokseth’s marching orders were to take the contemporary look and style of the four John Wick movies starring Keanu Reeves and turn them upside-down while exploring the origin of he iconic hotel-for-assassins centerpiece of the John Wick universe. He was tasked with capturing re distinctively grimy and decrepit look of the city in the 1970s, replete with trash-filled streets, steam churning out of the sewers and graffiti everywhere. It’s dark and messy and shadowy by design.

With poor box office predictions for “The Marvels,” the Marvel TV reckoning, and the ongoing “crisis at Marvel,” it’s clear that the most lucrative studio in Hollywood history has hit a rough patch creatively and otherwise. So where does Marvel Studios go from here? Will they keep Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conquerer as the “big bad” for the next two Phases of MCU films?

Exclusive: Peacock is touting the success of The Continental: From the World of John Wick.
The Lionsgate-produced series premiered its first episode on September 22, only to become Peacock’s biggest original launch of the year, meaning that the episode reached more accounts in its first weekend than any other original offering, according to NBCUniversal.
Following the release of the remaining two episodes, The Continental now ranks among the top five Peacock originals of all time in terms of reach, joining the ranks of Bel-Air, The Best Man: The Final Chapters, Poker Face, and Based on a True Story.
Based on the current top five, it appears Peacock is finding success with both existing IP as well as original concepts.
Of course, The Continental falls under the former, as it explores the origin behind the iconic hotel-for-assassins that is at the center of the John Wick universe. Though its already a billion-dollar franchise,...

The Continental: From the World of John Wick has wrapped up its three-episode run, but a number of questions were left unanswered, which has fans wondering whether season 2 might be in the works. I haven’t had a chance to watch the series for myself yet, so to be safe, I’ll just say watch out for Spoilers.

While speaking with GamesRadar, The Continental director and executive producer Albert Hughes said that while he “hasn’t heard anything” about a potential season 2, he has been “daydreaming” about the next stage of the story. “I would like to see if [Winston] becomes what he hated,” Hughes explained. “Absolute power corrupts absolutely. In the first “John Wick,” Keanu Reeves’ titular character — a former assassin brought out of retirement after some goons kill his dog and steal his car — confirms his return with the often quoted line: “Yeah, I’m thinking I’m back.” And one of the many joys of “The Continental,” the new “John Wick” spin-off series that concludes Friday, is the fact that Albert Hughes is back.
He directed “Menace II Society” and “Dead Presidents” with his brother Allen. For “The Continental,” he helmed “Night 1” and Friday’s “Night 3” – essentially two feature-length movies set within the “John Wick” universe.
Not that he was totally sold on the idea, at least initially.
Before Hughes signed on, they wanted a single filmmaker to do all three nights. He described that idea as “daunting.” But then he started thinking about the Old Hollywood system, where directors would make multiple movies every year.

This article contains spoilers for the premiere episode of "The Continental."
Even a casual viewer of the "John Wick" films can't help but be intrigued by the franchise's assassin-filled world. One of the unique pleasures of the original 2014 movie is the way it begins in a very grounded, incredibly recognizable reality, sliding bit by bit into a wilder, more garish, more violent, more intriguing underworld along with John (played in the films by Keanu Reeves), as he delves back into the life of murder he thought he'd left behind.
The very first spinoff/expanded universe/prequel to come from the "John Wick" films is the Peacock original miniseries "The Continental: From the World of John Wick," and it finds itself in territory that's both untouched and well-established. Each subsequent "John Wick" film (from Chapters 2 through 4) has developed the world of "Wick" on a grand, global scale, taking John to locales all around the world.

Albert Hughes "doesn't want to disrespect" anyone with the new 'John Wick' series. The 51-year-old director is at the helm of 'The Continental: From the World of John Wick' - which serves as a spin-off to the action movie series - and insisted that he never wanted to "copy" the films in the franchise as he insisted that was not what he was hired for in the first place. He told MovieWeb: "I would never want to disrespect by copying, and that's not who I am. They didn't hire me for that. There are plenty of no-talent directors that, if they wanted to push around, they could do that. The truth is there is not enough talent to go around. If they wanted, the copy would have done that. The highly-anticipated spin-off “The Continental: From the World of John Wick” premiered Friday on a streaming platform some in the industry would find surprising.
What makes the show stand out — apart from its miniseries format, comprised of three movie-sized episodes spread across three consecutive Fridays (a callback to television events of yore) — is the fact that the prequel, spun off from one of the crown jewels of the Lionsgate portfolio, landed on the NBCUniversal-owned streamer rather than on Starz, Lionsgate’s own premiere cable channel and streaming platform.
The question remains: Why?
The show takes place in New York in the 1970s, but exists in the same shared, blood-splattered universe where, decades later, Keanu Reeves’ John Wick would go on a roaring rampage of revenge.
Basil Iwanyk, founder of Thunder Road Films, the production and financing company behind “John Wick” and “The Continental,” said the decision to move the...

In the world of "John Wick," The Continental is a safe refuge for all contractors, a neutral ground that provides much-needed respite and assistance to those belonging to the criminal underworld. Not much is revealed about this mysterious hotel chain, except that its rules need to be upheld no matter what the cost, and certain branches -- such as New York and Osaka -- are ready to defend this sacred ground until their last breath. This preps the foundation for "The Continental: From the World of John Wick," a "John Wick" spin-off series that delves into how Ian McShane's Winston Scott (played by Colin Woodell in the TV series) presided over the New York branch as a young proprietor. This limited series is set to follow an alternate history of the 1970s while incorporating real-world events within the context of the franchise's deep and evolving lore.

The Continental, a 1970s-set prequel to the John Wick action franchise, is a fast-moving, stylish thrill ride. Named for the Wick-verse’s global hotel chain for assassins, it tells the backstory of dashing manager Winston and concierge Charon (played in the movies by Ian McShane and the late Lance Reddick) and how they unite to win the brutal fight to control the New York City location. The three-part series drops in 90-minute installments weekly on Peacock, starting September 22. The Continental: From the World of John Wick director Albert Hughes first crossed paths with John Wick masterminds Chad Stahelski and David Leitch in 2008. At the time, Stahelski and Leitch had only recently decided to make the jump from stunt work to the director’s chair, beginning with second unit. So they interviewed for the second-unit gig on The Book of Eli, which Hughes co-directed alongside his twin brother, Allen. Stahelski and Leitch didn’t end up with the job, but it didn’t stop them from achieving their directorial dream a handful of years later when they co-directed the Keanu Reeves actioner John Wick.

While promoting Peacock’s John Wick spinoff series The Continental: From the World of John Wick, executive producer Basil Iwanyk acknowledges the elephant in the room: How does one explore the John Wick universe without the eponymous star — played by Keanu Reeves — himself?

Keanu Reeves’ master assassin may have been left for almost dead at the end of the fourth John Wick film, but things are alive and kicking in the franchise, at least retroactively.
Or, to quote Mel Gibson, who plays the manager of the “precious” hotel for killers at the center of the ’70s and New York-set The Continental: From the World of John Wick: “Son of a bitch, where’s my f*ckin’ shotgun?”
With more than its fair share of Me Decade revolutionaries, rats (literal and figurative) and “fun fumes,” as Gibson’s feral Cormac exclaims, The Continental primarily is a throwback to the heroic bloodshed genre perfected by Ringo Lam and John Woo in the 1980s. With more than a nod or two to 2011’s The Raid, the limited series partially directed by Albert Hughes kicks bellbottomed butt in true John Wick style over its September 22-debuting three-part run on Peacock.

The "John Wick" films are action masterpieces, but let's face it: They're tightly focused on Mr. Wick and his battle against the High Table of assassins. With a world surrounding him that's enticingly rich, intriguingly layered, and ambiguously constructed, there's a wealth of possibility for other stories to be found within that world -- stories that have the potential to be just as exciting.
That's where Peacock's new three-night event series "The Continental: From the World of John Wick" comes in. Written by Greg Coolidge, Kirk Ward, Ken Kristensen, and Shawn Simmons and directed by Charlotte Brändström (Night 2) and Albert Hughes (Nights 1 & 3), the series is set in 1970s New York City and follows a young Winston Scott (Colin Woodell) as he attempts to avenge his brother Frankie (Ben Robson) and take over the mysterious hotel full of assassins known as The Continental.

Check into The Continental, the explosive prequel to the John Wick action film franchise. Named for the Wickaverse’s global hotel chain for assassins, this stylish three-part series (dropping weekly in roughly 90-minute installments) drills into the brutal 1970s-era fight to control the New York City location. Being on set “was an adrenaline rush,” says director Albert Hughes. He’s right—every minute is blood-pumping. Young wheeler-dealer Winston Scott’s (Colin Woodell) brother Frankie (Ben Robson) steals an ancient coin press used to mint assassin-world currency so he and Vietnamese-rebel wife Yen (Nhung Kate) can start a peaceful life. The machine’s keeper, and the brothers’ former criminal mentor, power-drunk Continental manager Cormac (Mel Gibson) and his studious Nigerian assistant Charon (Ayomide Adegun) pull out all the stops to get it back. We hope you enjoyed your stay at the Continental, because there's a lot more where that came from. The world of "John Wick" is set to expand with a new prequel series titled "The Continental" that has high hopes of recapturing the same magic that turned the Keanu Reeves-starring quadrilogy into the breakout hit that it became. From the humble beginnings of the relatively self-contained and low-budget 2014 film, the series has since risen to greater and greater heights on the big screen.
It'll have its work cut out for it, given that franchise icons Reeves, Ian McShane, and the late, great Lance Reddick will be nowhere to be seen. In their places will be a new cast of characters, though some will be playing younger versions of very familiar faces. Actor Colin Woodell has been cast to fill the enormous shoes left by McShane as Winston Scott, the fresh-faced manager...

‘The Continental’ Trailer Promises Plenty of ‘John Wick’-Adjacent Thrills in Peacock Prequel (Video)
Ready to return to the world of “John Wick?”
While the dog-loving assassin played by Keanu Reeves shuffled off the mortal coil earlier this year in “John Wick: Chapter 4,” the saga is alive and well, with the prequel series “The Continental: From the World of John Wick” debuting this fall on Peacock. The three-night event has all of the colorful villains, gratuitous bloodshed and rich mythology you’ve come to expect from the series, with a fresh 1970s New York setting that sheds some light on some of your favorite characters.
And you can watch the brand-new trailer above. It’s killer.
“The Continental” follows Winston Scott, played here by Colin Woodell and portrayed by Ian McShane in the “John Wick” movies, who is called back to New York from London by the Continental’s brutish hotel manager Cormac (played with scenery-chewing menace by Mel Gibson). It seems that...

If you've enjoyed watching the four Keanu Reeves-led John Wick movies, you know they're bursting at the seams with action.
When we heard about Peacock's three-part prequel series, there were some concerns about how that would translate to the small screen.
Thankfully, the official trailer for the spinoff teases a world familiar to fans of the iconic movie franchise.
Yes, we're taking a trip to the past, but expanding on the history of The Continental is a convincing hook for a series set in that universe.
While watching the impressive promo, I was baited into thinking I was watching a big-budget movie, and it's because no expense is spared here.
Far too often, franchise extensions leave a bad taste because they pale in comparison to the original material, but The Continental promises to be a show unlike any other.

Peacock has released the official trailer for “The Continental,” the latest addition to the “John Wick” franchise. The Mel Gibson-led miniseries is a prequel to the films starring Keanu Reeves, and centers around Winston Scott (Colin Woodell), who came to acquire The Continental, a notorious chain of hotels that Scott established as a neutral haven for housing assassins.
“The Continental” is an enthralling ode to New York in the 1970s, featuring Donna Summer songs, Studio 54-esque club scenes and lots and lots of guns against the backdrop of the city’s dark and dirty streets. The Lionsgate Television project first gained buzz back in 2017 and was originally planned to air on Starz.
Gibson plays ruthless kingpin Cormac alongside Woodell’s Winston Scott (previously played by Ian McShane). The three-part miniseries also stars Ayomide Adegun, Peter Greene, Ben Robson, Hubert Point-Du Jour, Jessica Allain, Mishel Prada and Nhung Kate.

The Continental: From the world of John Wick’ held its panel at the San Diego Comic Con (Sdcc) and showcased some intense footage giving us an idea about both its tone and action.
While the show will apparently have a somewhat lighter tone, audiences should not make the mistake that this will get McU-fied as it still contains plenty of amazing action, full of blood and gore. Set in the world of 1970’s New York City, the show will dive deeper into the franchise’s obscure criminal mythology, exploring both the origins of the eponymous hotel for assassins in New York, as well as how actor Ian McShane’s character Winston Scott became the proprietor of its New York branch.
As reported by Collider, the panel opened with a behind-the-scenes featurette, with a long intro primarily focusing on the setting and the new environments. The footage also showcased familiar settings...

Premiering in September as a trilogy of movie-length episodes, it’s an origin story for Winston Scott and Charon, with Colin Woodell and Ayomide Adegun taking over as the younger versions of the characters played by Ian McShane and the late Lance Reddick, respectively.
For executive producer Basil Iwanyk, getting from John Wick to The Continental has been a surprising journey. “It’s really surreal because this was a bit like the accidental franchise,” he remarks. Iwanyk has produced...

Marvel Studios and DC’s film studios, along with several actors, will be sitting out of this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. But the fans are not.
While it’s still early down here in America’s Finest City, attendees are already lining up, not simply for Hall H but for their Wednesday night or Thursday entrance to the trade-show floor. The outdoor tents and rails for queues are set up and remain in place outside the San Diego Convention Center’s Hall H lawn.

Mel Gibson is joining the “John Wick” cinematic universe, but at what cost?
The Oscar nominee, who infamously spewed anti-Semitic comments during his 2006 DUI arrest and later was accused of assaulting his former girlfriend, has been cast in a key role for “John Wick” prequel spin-off series, “The Continental.” The show premieres on Peacock later this year, with Gibson portraying original hotel manager Cormac who mentors a young Winston, later played by Ian McShane in the films.
“The Continental” executive producers Basil Iwanyk and Albert Hughes addressed Gibson’s controversial casting during an interview with IGN.
Iwanyk revealed there was “no” hesitation about offering Gibson the role, saying, “There just simply wasn’t a consideration about it.”
Fellow EP Hughes added, “I think he fit the role, he fit what we needed based on his film past. And I’ll leave others to debate the other stuff because it’s not a black-and-white issue,...
