The uniforms on the original "Star Trek" might be some of the most casual, comfy military kits ever seen. Captain Kirk (William Shatner) essentially wore a lightweight, tight-fitting long-sleeve t-shirt, a pair of black slacks, and some versatile patent leather shoes. Apart from his department color -- the gold hue indicated his status as a command officer -- and the rank stripes around his wrists, the uniform didn't seem to have any additional practical functions. It didn't have pockets, so communicators and tricorders needed to be carried as accessories.
One might assume that "Star Trek" uniforms were made from an ultra-advanced, super-breathable material that allowed its wearer to have a more evenly regulated body temperature, but that is mere headcanon; such details were never revealed on the show. It also wouldn't be true for the Enterprise's female crew members who were typically seen in minidress uniforms and black leggings.

Ever since Jonathan Frakes played the first officer of the USS Enterprise-d Will Riker, Frakes has gone on to appear in almost every Star Trek series since, albeit as transporter accident-spawned clone Thomas Riker in Deep Space Nine. Usually, fans love to see the adventurous Riker swing into a guest appearance on another series. But that wasn’t the case when Riker and Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) showed up in the series finale of Star Trek: Enterprise.
“It was sold as, ‘Oh, come on and do the episode, it will be a Valentine to the fans,’” Frakes told Variety when recalling his appearance in that show’s series finale. As the last episode in a continuous run of Star Trek series that began with Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1987, the Enterprise finale “These Are the Voyages…” sought to connect the end to the beginning. And so the episode follows...

While "Star Trek" takes place in a technological utopia -- a utopia wherein people can teleport great distances, live in holographic environs, or replicate any food or drink they should want -- there still appears to be room for old media. While the characters on "Star Trek" are typically military officers, they are often careful to attend the theater to see plays, where Shakespeare might still be performed.
On "Star Trek: The Next Generation," there are many, many classical music concerts, and performers still seem to have access to traditional brass, woodwind, and string instruments. Entire libraries may be accessed on a Padd, and Malcolm Reed (Dominic Keating) once noted that he was attempting to make his way through James Joyce's "Finnegans Wake." But other characters may be more comfortable holding an actual printed book on bound paper. One might be able to create a force field in the future,...

This is one for the C-movie connoisseurs among you.
For those of you who don’t know (you won’t), there’s a new sci-fi spoof on the way called Unbelievable!!!!! It stars Snoop Dogg, 42 former Star Trek actors, Michael Madsen, and a ficus on a skateboard. That ought to answer all of your questions.
In the can for what appears to have been an eternity (some of the footage dates back as far as 2013), the film does at last have a release date. I say at last, but I’m not sure it was at the top of anyone’s list of movie treasure troves. Anyway, if you’re feeling particularly trashy (there’s no shame in that), sit down for Unbelievable!!!!! in an online premiere this August 1st. The premiere will also come with a virtual convention.

Star Trek: Enterprise is probably the worst live-action show in the franchise. Despite boasting Scott Bakula as Captain Archer and the great core concept of showing the first forays of mankind into the wider galaxy, it never found its feet (and it had an absolutely terrible opening song). The series attempted to switch things up in the third and fourth seasons by focusing more on action, but it failed to convince audiences and was unceremoniously cancelled in 2005.
The legacy of Enterprise was explored in a virtual panel at last week’s Galaxy Con Live, in which Enterprise stars John Billingsley, Connor Trinneer and Dominic Keating discussed what did and didn’t work. Billingsley, in particular, didn’t mince words when it came to casting blame, saying the show’s flaws were the fault of the producers and network.

Dozens Of ‘Star Trek’ Actors Converge For Snoop Dogg’s Parody Pic ‘Unbelievable’ – Watch The Trailer
It’s a Trekkie delight. No idea why so many Star Trek actors thought this was a great idea, but they did. Snoop Dogg seems to be the furthest thing away from sci-fi as you can get, but he’s one of the stars Unbelievable, a parody film that uses a puppet for James T. Kirk. Watch the trailer for below.
The original score was written/composed by Emmy-winning, Oscar-nominated Gerald Fried — the last living composer from the original Star Trek series.
Snoop Dogg executive produced the film from writer-director Steven Fawcette that also stars Nichelle Nichols (who also co-produced), Angelique Fawcette (also a producer), Michael Madsen and Robert Davi. Also in the film are Casper Smart, Sam Asghari, Gilbert Gottfried and newcomer Katarina Van Derham.

Simon Rumley (director of Red, White & Blue, Fashionista & Crowhurst) has begun a six week shoot on the brutal gangster thriller Once Upon a Time in London – for Gateway Films – which dramatises the violent reign of two of London’s most notorious gangsters, Billy Hill (Leo Gregory) and Jack ‘Spot’ Comer (Terry Stone), charting the legendary rise and fall of a nationwide criminal empire that lasted until the mid-fifties and which paved the way for the notorious Kray Twins and The Richardsons.
Director and co-writer Simon Rumley commented:
Having spent the last decade or so writing and directing thematically disparate but collectively extreme dramas, it makes absolute sense for me to progress to the gangster genre where love, lust, greed, paranoia, betrayal and violence are every day occurrences. As I mentioned in last week’s column (Oh Boy), Scott Bakula also starred as Captain Jonathan Archer on Enterprise, which ran on the Upn network from September 2001 to May 2005, a total of four years. That’s one more year than Tos’s run, but three years shorter than its successful progenitors, Next Gen, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager.
Upn claimed that poor ratings caused Enterprise’s downfall; according to Wikipedia, it never rose above the Top 100 rank in the Neilson ratings system, debuting at #115, and continuing to sink until its final season, where it landed at #148. It’s generally perceived as a failure, and has been blamed for the lack of any Star Trek on either television or movie screens until J.J. Abrams’s 2009 film reboot of the franchise.

The voyage continues for the brave first crew of the Enterprise. It’s a bit disheartening as modern audiences (such as me) discover what a good show it was (although still some clunker episodes) now that the voyage is over. Paramount/CBS also ponies up some excellent special features to help tell the behind-the-scenes tales of why Enterprise stopped boldly going. The Nx-01 Enterprise is commanded by Capt. Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) crewed by chief engineer Charles “Trip” Tucker III (Connor Trinneer), tactical officer Malcolm Reed (Dominic Keating), communications officer Hoshi Sato (Linda Park), helmsman Travis Mayweather (Anthony Montgomery), alien Dr. Phlox (John Billingsley), and Vulcan science officer T’Pol (Jolene Blalock). Nearly five decades after the Starship Enterprise first set out on its mission to boldy go where no man had gone before, its legacy couldn't be stronger than it is right now. With the buzz about next year's Star Trek Into Darkness (as it will now be called) reaching fever pitch (not least about the identity of man of the moment Benedict Cumberbatch's as yet unrevealed villain), and the recent stunning Blu-Ray release of The Next Generation's first season (which Shadowlocked awarded five stars in its review here), fans in the UK are being well and truly spoiled by the upcoming Destination Star Trek event to be held at London's ExCeL centre on 19th to 21st October 2012.

Sherlock Holmes (2010)
Stars: Gareth David-Lloyd, Ben Syder, Dominic Keating | Written by Paul Bales | Directed by Rachel Goldenberg
Holmes and his faithful companion, Dr. Watson embark on their most dangerous case yet – saving London from an attack by fearsome monsters. The investigation takes the heroic duo on an incredible journey that sees them do battle with their arch nemesis, the mad mechanical genius Spring-Heeled Jack, who will stop at nothing to bring destruction to London. Holmes and Watson courageously fight to save London and its people from annihilation.
If you’ve ever seen one of The Asylum’s mockbusters, you should know what to expect from this film – Ott story, plenty of action, dodgy CGI and often risible acting. However this film eschews Aylum traditions and present a more serene tale of the legendary detective – kidding! Sherlock Holmes is as wild and crazy as the rest of The Asylum’s output,...

I’ve been talking about The Asylum’s ‘mockbuster’ version of Sherlock Holmes for a couple of months now, last time round I mentioned that Revolver Entertainment had picked the film up for UK distribution, and I’ve now recieved official confirmation of the UK DVD release, along with the DVD cover art:
Revolver Entertainment have announced the UK DVD release of ‘mockbuster’ production, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes, on April 26th 2010.
Not to be outdone by its Hollywood counterpart, Director Rachel Goldenberg brings together an ensemble of talent including Gareth David-Lloyd (Torchwood, Dr. Who) as Watson and newcomer Ben Syder as the adventurous Holmes. Dominic Keating (Star Trek: Enterprise, Heroes, Prison Break) features as their greatest foe.

If you haven’t heard already, Gareth David-Lloyd, aka Torchwood’s Ianto Jones is the co-star in yet another cinematic adaptation of Sherlock Holmes… Don’t get your hopes up folks, this version comes from the purveyors of low-budget, The Asylum. Starring along side David-Lloyd in the film are newcomer Ben Syder and Star Trek: Enterprise’s Dominic Keating in a story set in London sometime in the 19th Century.
Holmes (Syder) and Watson (David-Lloyd) are called upon to help track down and ultimately capture Spring Heeled Jack (Keating), presented here as a mechanical genius. Spring-Heeled Jack has been terrorising London with a steam-powered body armour that permits him to carry out crimes without fear of capture, as well as several robotic dinosaurs and monsters as a means of committing various crimes. During the investigations, however, Holmes and Watson learn of a plot by Spring-Heeled Jack to assassinate Queen Victoria by using a robotic woman,...

In case you got confused and thought this was the Guy Ritchie movie, it isn’t. This is the Sherlock Holmes movie with dinosaurs!. And robots. And steampunk battle armor. And sea monsters. And girls with guns. Well, that other Sherlock Holmes had girls with guns, too. Gee, but it’s kinda funny how Asylum Entertainment’s films often somehow seem to get mistaken for other movies. Like Alien vs Hunter, starring William Katt, which totally isn’t Alien vs. Predator. Or The Da Vinci Treasure, starring C. Thomas Howell, which -- hello! -- is absolutely not The Da Vinci Code. I mean, duh! Or I Am Omega, starring Mark Dacascos, which is soooo not I Am Legend that it’s not even funny. Why would people keep making such mistakes? No one, on the other hand, mistakes Asylum’s Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus for anything other than what it is.

Later this year we'll be getting the Guy Ritchie directed Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr. as a more caddish, bumbling, action-oriented world's greatest detective than we're used to seeing.. Opinions have already been quite mixed on this new action-comedy Hollywood take on the usually sophisticated and literate Sir Arthur Conan Doyle creation. What will the purists say when they find out The Asylum is getting into the Sherlock Holmes game?
Production has already begun on The Asylum's Sherlock Holmes starring Gareth David-Lloyd of "Torchwood" and Dominic Keating of "Star Trek: Enterprise" with a January 27th, 2010 DVD release date already set for the film's release. So what great mystery will The Asylum have Holmes unravel? Probably the mystery of how he went from being the world's most famous detective to a Van Helsing-style monster fighter. At least that's what the one sentence plot synopsis makes it sound like.
