A new episode of the Real Slashers video series has just been released, and with this one we’re looking back at a movie that gave us two iconic slashers for the price of one: the 2003 monster mash Freddy vs. Jason (watch it Here)! Somehow it’s been over twenty years since that long-awaited match-up reached theatres screens, and you can hear all about what happened when Freddy Krueger crossed paths with Jason Voorhees in the video embedded above.
Directed by Ronny Yu (who previously worked with another iconic slasher on Bride of Chucky) from a screenplay by Damian Shannon and Mark J. Swift (with an uncredited polish by David S. Goyer), Freddy vs. Jason has the following synopsis: Get ready for the ultimate showdown! It’s been nearly ten years since Freddy, from the Nightmare on Elm Street series, invaded people’s dreams to exact his deadly form of revenge and murder.

It’s not even October, but Massachusetts is already being spoiled with horror events. A mere week after Silver Scream Con took place in Danvers, Terror Con slashed into the Royal Plaza Trade Center in Marlborough on September 15-17.
Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund, had the longest lines throughout the weekend. He was joined by several other A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise alumni: Part 1’s Heather Langenkamp, Amanda Wyss, and Ronee Blakeley; Part 2’s Mark Patton and Kim Myers; Part 4’s Lisa Wilcox and Nicholas Mele; Part 5’s Erika Anderson, Whit Hertford, and Beatrice Boepple; and Freddy vs. Jason‘s Monica Keena.
Other big draws included Lance Henriksen (Aliens), Edward Furlong (Terminator 2), pro wrestling legend Mick Foley, The Walking Dead‘s Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Chandler Riggs, Emily Kinney, and Katelyn Nacon, Danielle Harris (Halloween), Sherilyn Fenn (Twin Peaks), John Kassir (Tales from the Crypt), and a Fright Night reunion with Chris Sarandon,...

Freddy Krueger has a choice to make. On one side is Lori (Monica Keena), the woman he had been antagonizing throughout the movie Freddy vs. Jason, along with her wounded boyfriend Will (Jason Ritter). On the other is Kia (Kelly Rowland), Lori’s grouchy friend.
After dithering for a moment, Freddy (Robert Englund) looks at the Kia and smiles. “How sweet,” he says to the Black woman. “Dark meat.”
Remembering seeing the movie when it was released 20 years ago, Kumail Nanjiani described the audience’s groans at that line. “People were disappointed in Freddy Krueger,” Nanjiani recalled. “We’re okay with you murdering children with your needle gloves,” he quipped. “But racism?”
Nanjiani’s bit captures the public perception of Freddy when Freddy vs Jason premiered on August 15, 2003. Even though the character officially died in 1991’s Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare, the terrifying monster of Wes Craven’s 1984 film A Nightmare on Elm Street...

Ronnie Yu's 2003 film "Freddy vs. Jason" -- simultaneously the eighth film in the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series and the eleventh film in the "Friday the 13th" series -- finally brought together two of the most popular characters of the 1980s slasher boom and had them wail on each other in a series of supernatural monster fights. Most slasher fans would have appreciated a "Freddy vs. Jason" film about a decade earlier, but there was still magic in the air in 2003; Yu's film made over $116 million on a $30 million budget.
It also, in a very utilitarian way, gave audiences exactly what they wanted. There was a decent-enough retinue of teenage victims to slaughter (led by actress Monica Keena). The story hung together juuuust well enough. And the final fights between Freddy (Robert Englund) and Jason (Ken Kirzinger) addressed any late-night, heavily intoxicated concerns horror fanboys might have posited.

‘Freddy vs. Jason’ 20 Years Later – The Ultimate Horror Battle Still Satisfies After All These Years
I was somewhat of a late bloomer when it came to my exposure to horror. I lacked the cool older relative or friend that seems to serve as a customary gateway for many genre fans. I had seen a few horror movies growing up (Child’s Play and Scream each terrified me at different points in my youth), but seeing Freddy vs. Jason at the tender age of 15 is single-handedly responsible for the horror fandom that has consumed my life ever since. Without the movie — which hit theaters 20 years ago today — I very likely wouldn’t be writing for Bloody Disgusting now.
I knew of Freddy and Jason through pop culture osmosis, but I hadn’t seen any of the combined 17 films that comprised the Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th franchises when Freddy vs. Jason piqued my interest. Even with the advent of Netflix’s DVDs by mail,...

At the end of 1993’s Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, horror fans saw the sight of Friday the 13th slasher Jason Voorhees’ hockey mask lying in the dirt, after its wearer had been vanquished. It seemed as though the story of this villain had finally come to the end. At least until A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger’s blade-gloved hand popped out of the dirt and dragged the mask to Hell.
The scene seemed to tease an oncoming battle between Krueger and Voorhees, which fans had wanted. Horror geeks had debated who would win in such a fight, but for a very long time, it seemed like it would only exist in people’s fantasies and never in an actual movie. Until, of course, Ronny Yu’s Freddy vs. Jason came to fruition.

Filmmakers loves an underdog and movies have a long tradition of supporting the rights of workers, dating all the way back to the silent era. Here are some classic movies that celebrate workers’ right to strike for better wages and safer working conditions and the sometimes unlikely allies they find along the way. Many are based on true stories, including John Sayles’ masterful “Matewan,” about a coal miner strike in West Virginia, as well as Barbara Kopple’s Oscar-winning documentary, “Harlan County, USA.”

One of this week’s most notable new releases is Lionsgate’s big screen horror movie Cobweb, a horror fairy tale of sorts from first time feature film director Samuel Bodin. Bodin’s no stranger to the realm of violent fairy tales for adults; the filmmaker’s direction on Netflix’s Marianne unleashed no shortage of visceral scares unleashed from a fairy tale realm.
This week’s streaming picks center around horror fairy tales, whether they’re direct adaptations or inspired by them. All blend horror and fantasy to deliver cautionary bedtime tales.

When Heather Matarazzo’s indelible film debut “Welcome to the Dollhouse,” went to the Sundance Film Festival in 1996, the young star didn’t attend. “I didn’t go,” she told IndieWire during a recent interview. “Sony wouldn’t pay for me.” Now, it’s hard to imagine a breakout star of Matarazzo’s caliber, let alone the lead of a Grand Jury Prize winner, not being feted in the mountains of Park City.
At the time — and, as a tween herself — she wasn’t fazed by the decision on the part of distributor Sony Pictures Classics. “I didn’t know what a big deal it was,” she said.
Matarazzo’s performance as Dawn Wiener was a shock to the system. In Solondz’s pastel-colored New Jersey suburbia, Dawn is a gangly 11-year-old with glasses whose classmates call her “lesbo” and whose teachers chide her for being a “grade grubber.” Matarazzo,...

If there’s anyone that knows how to deliver a heart-wrenching death scene, it’s the team behind ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.” Created by Shonda Rhimes, the broadcast medical drama came out of the gate in 2005 with literal life and death stakes for its characters. Being set in a hospital meant that mortality was a constant theme that touched the lives of every one who walked through the doors, be they of-the-week patients or support staff, or full-time cast members — no one is immune to the cold touch of death.
Now showrun by Krista Vernoff, “Grey’s Anatomy” has become the longest-running medical drama on television and, as such, the show has accumulated a record-high body count.
There have been quite a few of memorable ones that caused tears to be shed but not buckets to be cried. Those include Bonnie Crasnoff (Monica Keena), who was admitted after a train crash...

By now I’m sure you know the formula for this column. I introduce one of our beloved horror icons as a means to steer you toward one of their lesser-known works. Nothing too complicated, but I’ve found it works. This time around, however, I worry that my usual spiel will bury the lede, as I’ve made a profound discovery in the made-for-tv horror fairy tale Snow White: A Tale of Terror, featuring Sigourney Weaver. This movie, ladies and gentlemen, is the silliest horror movie ever made.
I know what you’re thinking: But Bryan, how could you make such a claim in a world where movies like Sleepaway Camp II, Blood Diner, or any variety of wacky ’80s slasher movies exist? You raise a fair point, good reader, but the difference is that they were actively trying to be silly while Snow White: A Tale of Terror...

Exclusive: As Charles Manson gears up for his behind-bars nuptials to a young follower named Star, a February shoot has been set for long-gestating indie drama Manson Girls. Susanna Lo is directing the film about the female devotees who joined Manson’s flock in the 1960s and helped carry out brutal killings meant to start an apocalyptic race war. Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects) will portray Manson in the film, which TriCoast Worldwide boarded this month at Afm.
Rather than probe the twisted brain of Manson himself, Manson Girls will chronicle how eight young women in his brood came from diverse and even privileged backgrounds to become the most notorious female serial killers of the decade’s Love Generation. Director: Peter Engert. Writer: Christian McDonald. Cast: Edward Furlong, Monica Keena, Andre Royo, Bo Mitchell, Luis Da Silva Jr. and C.J. Thomason. Aftermath is a post-apocalyptic thriller from distributors Rlj Entertainment and relative newcomer Peter Engert. Engert's third feature takes place after a nuclear strike, which leaves several survivors exposed to radiation. The next hour or so consists of the survivors succumbing to radiation sickness. Light and fun - this film is not. Instead, the film focuses on drama and the dire situation in which the characters find themselves. The protagonist Hunter, played with lots of starch by C.J. Thomason, is a man without a past. It is only a matter of time before the survivors must face the unpredictable outcomes of a nuclear strike, including raging, mutated farmers. Aftermath is a very dreary film, which will leave many viewers haunted and wondering why. The film's story begins with Hunter.

From Rlj/Image Entertainment, Aftermath hits home media next week, and we have an exclusive clip of the horror thriller.

Ya see, when I read the description of the film, my head filled with images of an action-packed, blood spattered gorefest replete with slavering zombie-like antagonists mowin’ down hordes of terrified war-ravaged survivors like so much human wheat.
I’m going to lay it right on you cats: this movie is primarily a drama. A character-driven, dialogue-infused drama. So be forewarned, as your mileage may vary.

I know absolutely nothing about this movie, beyond the fact that it features Ed Furlong, and is supposedly some kind of post-apocalyptic horror film. I do love both Ed Furlong, and post-apocalyptic films, but neither of them have been very good to me in return as of late. I know most people hate the Night of the Demons remake, but I love it, and I love Furlong’s sleazy performance in that movie. Hopefully he brings what he considers to be his A-Game to this role, and there will be that for me to enjoy at the very least. Cj Thomason stars alongside Monica Keena and Edward Furlong in the new survival horror film Aftermath. Recently Thomason sat down with Dread Central to discuss his feelings about the movie.
"Aftermath is people surviving, doing everything they can to survive a nuclear fallout," Thomason said. "It's like it would probably happen in real life. They don't know why it's happening. They don't know who attacked."
He added, "They don't know the extent of the attack, and when it comes down to it, the movie is literally just focused on them surviving because that's where we would be. We're not going to have our iPhones updating us. We're not going to have our news media informing us... If you're lucky enough to be around a ham radio, you'll probably know a little bit of information. But it's a claustrophobic look at the survival of nuclear war."

With so many different apocalyptic interpretations floating around Hollywood these days, it’s always interesting to realize that the most underutilized Earth-destroying plot line remains one of the most realistic – nuclear fallout. Zombies hordes strike fear, Kaiju’s threaten massive devastation, aliens fight to control our brains, but a massive-scale nuclear war would leave entire cities vaporized, cause uncountable casualties, and create unlivable conditions for those “lucky” enough to survive. Even scarier is that although Aftermath is just a movie depicting what could happen if a governmental paranoia caused all-out nuclear war, these same fears have been around since Cold War era Russia – and with threatening terrorists, we haven’t escaped fears of life imitating art.
Radiation burns, illness, suffering – sometimes directors don’t need monsters and murderers as far as global horror is concerned.

It is amazing how many post-apocalyptic films that are coming out nowadays. The latest is titled Aftermath (formerly Remnants) and this title is from director Peter Engert. Aftermath was completed in 2012 and Image Entertainment will distribute this title July 18th, 2014, through video-on-demand. The film stars Monica Keena (Freddy vs. Jason), Andre Royo ("The Wire"), Christine Kelly (Samuel Bleak), and C.J. Thomason (Harper’s Island). Fans of the genre can preview the film's release with a trailer here. The story for Aftermath is a bleak one. A nuclear strike hits America and several survivors take refuge underground. These strangers find their refuge unsuitable as radiation leaks into their cellar. Radiation sickness effects many of the characters and then, events get worse. Others, forced to reside on the surface, are looking for supplies and shelter. They attempt to take over the cellar and these strangers will have to band together, in order to survive.

I love the end of the world movies. Really, can’t get enough of it. So Peter Engert’s “Aftermath” sounds like it’s right up my alley. Of course, whether the execution is worthy of my excitement remains to be seen, but hey, it’s got Edward Furlong from “Terminator: Judgement Day” fame, along with Monica Keena, so that’s not too bad. Check out the poster and some new images from “Aftermath.” No trailer yet, but that should be forthcoming, we suspect. What's the only thing worse than the world coming to an end? Zombies walking the Earth in its wake, of course. In Aftermath it's Edward Furlong and Freddy vs. Jason's Monica Keena that are tasked with beating off hordes of the undead.
Or fighting off, I should say. Beating off sounds... oh, never mind.
Check out the trailer for the flick, which will be released sometime this year!
Directed by Peter Engert, the film also stars Andre Royo and C.J. Thomason.

As someone who is a Freddy vs Jason fan, I am deeply saddened by the news and images below. Yikes. With a restraining order barring troubled Terminator 2 star Edward Furlong from seeing his ex girlfriend, former Dawson's Creek star Monica Keena, the two were spotted dining together at El Torito's Mexican restaurant in Sherman Oaks, Calif. When Furlong, 35, spotted the photographer watching them, he reportedly ran away. A few minutes later, an unrecognizable and disheveled Keena, 34, wearing ripped jeans and a loose shirt, was seen picking him up around the corner. Their reunion will likely breach his probation, as Keena has a restraining [...]...

Edward Furlong has been sentenced to six months jail. The 'Terminator 2' actor was been sent back into custody on Monday (04.03.13) for violating a 2010 restraining order banning him from contacting his estranged wife, Rachael Kneeland. It is linked to other legal troubles faced by the actor, where he was recently arrested twice for using force against his ex-girlfriend Monica Keena. Edward, 35, had been detained by cops after allegedly grabbing Monica's arm at Lax airport in October last year, then again in January after they had another argument, resulting in him facing a misdemeanour battery charge, which is still pending. Edward Furlong has been on a bit of a downward spiral in recent years. He has been in and out of rehab, suffered from a suspected heroin overdose, admitted to addictions to cocaine and heroin and been arrested for DUIs, public intoxication and violating a restraining order filed by estranged wife Rachael Bella.
Just in the past few months, he has been arrested twice for domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend Monica Keena. These arrests, plus violating a protective order Keena has against him, has led to Furlong being sentenced to 180 days in jail, reports TMZ.
The sentence stems from his probation from 2010, which requires that Furlong obey all laws during the course of his three-year probation. That 2010 probation was put in place after he violated a protective order by his estranged wife, the aforementioned Rachael.

Star Trek is pretty much unique when it comes to fan-made movies and episodes that pay homage to the sci-fi series. Left alone by CBS and Paramount (as long as they don’t try to make money from them) fans build elaborate sets and even bring in recognisable Star Trek actors to produce work that is anything but amateur.
The latest hoping to go into production is Star Trek: Renegades, co-written by Jack Trevino and staring Walter Koenig, Tim Russ, Garrett Wang and Robert Picardo among others, names that will be familiar to any Star Trek fan.
Jack Trevino is no stranger to the world of Star Trek. Having written the hugely popular fan-made miniseries Star Trek: Of Gods And Men which stared a number of Star Trek actors including Walter Koenig and Nichelle Nichols. The series was awarded ‘Best Web Production 2008’ by SyFy Portal which is now Alpha Airlock.

“Friday the 13th” is easily my favorite movie series of all time. It’s silly, ridiculous, entertaining, and filled with wonderful murders. Not to mention Jason Voorhees is my favorite movie slasher of all time.
With his iconic goalie mask and trademark machete at hand, Jason is an undead monster who can take any situation and use it as a means of viciously killing a hapless camper or passerby, and he’s shown a lot of ability for doling out painful deaths to people who have unfortunately crossed his path. Here are ten of the best.
10. Jason lends Freddy a Hand - Freddy vs. Jason
After an entire film of Monica Keena’s cleavage, Freddy tormenting Jason, Monica Keena’s cleavage, Jason being manipulated by Freddy, and Monica Keena’s Cleavage, character Lori pulls Freddy out of her dreams allowing a smack down of epic proportions between Jason and Freddy.

Boarding schools seem to be a hotbed of sexual experimentation, at least that's how it seems from watching them on film. Interestingly, it's a trend that doesn't seem to be going away anytime soon. We've seen all-girls dormitories as a plot device since the 1930s, and yet there have been three released in the last year alone. Is it a coincidence that four out of eight of our Best Lesbian Boarding School Movies are directed and/or written by out women, two of which are said to be based on real life stories? Seems as if boarding schools might not be punishment as much as they are places to find your first love.
