[This story contains spoilers from season seven, episode five of 9-1-1, “You Don’t Know Me.”]
A couple of months ago, 9-1-1 co-creator and showrunner Tim Minear reached out to actor Lou Ferrigno Jr. — who had guest-starred in three flashback episodes of the second season — about reprising his role as firefighter Tommy Kinard in the seventh season of the hit Fox-turned-abc first-responder drama.
Ferrigno Jr., who says he had nothing but fond memories of working with the writer and producer years ago, was instantly intrigued to learn that Minear was in the early stages of writing a multi-episode arc that would allow viewers to check back in with Tommy in the present. That storyline, as it turns out, would involve Evan “Buck” Buckley (Oliver Stark), the ostensibly straight character who would navigate his newfound attraction to Tommy in the landmark 100th episode, which aired last Thursday.

9-1-1 is adding a face from Bobby’s (Peter Krause) past for the second half of Season 7.
According to Deadline, Malcolm-Jamal Warner has landed a four-episode arc as Amir.
Amir is a nurse in a hospital’s burn unit with a surprising connection to Bobby.
Details about how the pair come into contact have not been disclosed, but given that we know Amir’s profession, there’s a good chance it will result from a character winding up in that unit.
If Amir’s tie is to Bobby, we expect it to be someone from the 118.
Let’s hope it isn’t Buck (Oliver Stark). He needs a break after his brush with death after being struck by lightning.
Could Malcolm Jamal-Warner become a new series regular?
It’s unclear whether the four episodes could become something more because 9-1-1 has already earned a Season 8 renewal at ABC.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 4 “Buck, Bothered and Bewildered.”] For its 100th episode, 9-1-1, one of the most consistently exciting, heartfelt, and simply entertaining shows on TV, delivers one for the books, setting Buck (Oliver Stark) up for a new romance and to figure out what that means for him. For most of the episode, Buck’s seemingly jealous that Eddie (Ryan Guzman) is leaving him out and has formed a new friendship with Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.), the former member of the 118 who flew them in a helicopter to Athena (Angela Bassett) and Bobby’s (Peter Krause) rescue when their honeymoon turned into a disaster. But now the question has to be asked. Buck spends the 100th episode “bothered and bewildered,” to borrow its title, upon realizing Eddie’s spending all this free time with Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.), the former 118er they just worked with to rescue Bobby (Peter Krause) and Athena (Angela Bassett). He seems hurt when Eddie talks about meeting someone and just clicking. He tries to get Eddie’s attention at work, then drags Chimney (Kenneth Choi) along to a weekly basketball game upon learning his best friend’s going with Tommy. And ...

When 9-1-1 co-creator Tim Minear signed up on Twitter (now known as X), he chose a telling handle to denote his legacy as a screenwriter and director: @Cancelledagain. “I was sort of infamous for all of my thundering failures over the years,” explains Minear. “Firefly lasted one season, Terriers one season, The Inside one season, Drive went for six episodes. Everything was canceled, so I just called myself ‘cancelled again,’ which actually worked out for me because these are all beloved little cult shows now.”
With the seventh season of 9-1-1, which he created with Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, underway and a milestone 100th episode premiering April 4, Minear now has a big, long-running show on his hands, plus a successful spinoff in 9-1-1: Lone Star, which will debut its fifth season in the fall. So much so that he’s considering a name change if he returns to the social media platform.

Now, in our clip, Buck’s visiting Tommy to talk to him about his work after the 118. “What got you into flying, aside from the fact that I assume it’s like having a superpower?” he asks. The first responders of 911 will keep putting their lives on the line at ABC.
The network has renewed 911 for the 2024-25 season, which will mark its second on ABC and eighth overall. The series, from Disney’s 20th Television, Ryan Murphy Television and Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision, moved to ABC from Fox this season. The renewal comes as 911 is set to air its 100th episode this week.
The show was Fox’s top-rated drama for several seasons, and it’s picked up that mantle at ABC. Through its first three episodes of a strike-shortened seventh season, 911 is averaging 5.29 million same-day viewers (versus 4.7 million last season), and the March 14 season premiere more than doubled its initial audience with a week of streaming and other delayed viewing, going from 4.93 million to 11.76 million viewers. ABC also says that 911 is the network’s most watched current series across all platforms this season.

At times, 9-1-1 can be spectacle television.
What other show do you know that's been able to have a tsunami, landslide, and sinking cruise ship disaster happen throughout its run and pull it off with such aplomb?
But that's never been all there is to 9-1-1. The characters are the heartbeat, which is so often not the case on standard procedurals, and that mixture of spectacle, found family, emotional warmth, and humor has always set it apart.
9-1-1 Season 7 returned from the strike-induced elongated hiatus like it had something to prove.
Moving from Fox to ABC breathed new life into a show that will conclude this season with over 100 episodes to its credit, a feat that's very rare these days.
Choosing to usher in its ABC run with perhaps the biggest spectacle of all could have been seen as a gamble, even though it's something the series is historically known for doing.

‘9-1-1’: Aisha Hinds Says Hen’s Still Hurting From Betrayal, Plus What’s Next to Save Athena & Bobby
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1 Season 7 Episode 2 “Rock the Boat.”] If there’s one thing we’ve learned about Hen (Aisha Hinds) over seven seasons of 9-1-1 thus far, it’s to trust her instincts. The latest episode calls that into question—twice! First, on a call, a man who caused a car accident in which a mother and daughter were injured—he was up and talking—refuses care. Then, he suddenly collapses. As captain while Bobby’s (Peter Krause) away, responsibility falls on Hen. During the investigation, she’s unofficially suspended. To her, it feels like Chimney (Kenneth Choi), Buck (Oliver Stark), and Eddie (Ryan Guzman) don’t have her back. She is cleared (tox results show the man was drunk and on drugs), but she has a new concern at that point: news of a hurricane where Athena (Angela Bassett) and Bobby’s cruise ship should be—it’s missing. ABC is creating synergy between their primetime shows, with 9-1-1 and The Bachelor coming together for a crossover episode.
Oliver Stark, who plays Buck on 9-1-1, had recently teased that two shows on the network were about to cross paths.
“It’s not a direct crossover, but there’s a feel of it,” Stark told People in a recent interview.
He continued, “There’s a really fun emergency, and it’s not necessarily the biggest in terms of spectacle, but in the fifth episode of the season, there’s one that kind of touches base with another ABC show. I’m really excited for that just because I think it will be a good watch.”
The outlet then received a photo of the 118 ambulance parked outside the mansion seen on The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and The Golden Bachelor.
It’s unclear what storyline will connect the scripted series and the dating competition.

Considering all the trauma that has been part of Chimney (Kenneth Choi) and Maddie’s (Jennifer Love Hewitt) relationship on 9-1-1 thus far, it can’t get worse, right? Well, their wedding is coming up… But before we get to that, there’s still plenty to cover. After all, Season 7 is in the middle of the big cruise ship disaster that’s covering the first three episodes—with Athena (Angela Bassett) and Bobby (Peter Krause) right in the middle of it. Then, there’s the show’s 100th episode immediately after that. Below, Choi (carefully) teases what’s ahead. What can you preview about the cruise ship disaster in the second and third episodes and how the 118 is going to get involved? [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the 9-1-1 Season 7 premiere “Abandon ‘Ships.”] Listen, if there’s one ‘ship we’re not ready to abandon, it’s Athena (Angela Bassett) and Bobby (Peter Krause), though they do have some things to work out in the 9-1-1 premiere. Fortunately, all is well for Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Karen (Tracie Thoms), as well as Chimney (Kenneth Choi) and Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt)—though multiple people need to tell him that!—and we’re not at all attached to Buck (Oliver Stark) and Eddie’s (Ryan Guzman) love interests, which is a good thing in one case. Early on in the premiere, Buck tries to make plans with Eddie over the weekend, but the other man is busy chaperoning, with Marisol (Edy Ganem), his son Christopher’s (Gavin McHugh) first date. When Eddie suggests he invite Natalia (Annelise Cepero), Buck reveals, “We broke up. I don’t know why I thought ...

Note: This story contains spoilers from the “9-1-1” Season 7 premiere.
The Season 7 premiere of “9-1-1” opened in a therapist’s office. In hushed tones, LAPD patrol sergeant Athena Grant (Angela Bassett) explained that she’s scared to go on a cruise with her husband for a very “9-1-1” reason: She was traumatized as a child by the 1972 ABC disaster thriller “The Poseidon Adventure.” As the flashback unfolds, scenes from the Irwin Allen disaster movie flash on screen along with a vintage ABC logo.
It’s a silly, so-on-the-nose-it’s-brilliant moment that’s perfect for one of television’s wildest shows. “9-1-1” is back, and it’s found a new home on ABC.
“That was so important to me,” series creator, writer and executive producer Tim Minear told TheWrap about the film nod. Dubbed the “Master of Disaster,” Allen defined the disaster film genre through movies such as “The Towering Inferno” and “The Swarm.

9-1-1 may be moving networks — and nights! — but does that mean that there will be anything significantly different about the show itself when Season 7 premieres on ABC on March 14? The answer is no — at least, not in terms of the content. It still has the big disasters. In fact, this season kicks off with a three-episode cruise ship emergency, with Athena (Angela Bassett) and Bobby (Peter Krause) at the center of it, (finally) on their honeymoon. It also has intense character stories, and Oliver Stark (who plays Buck) agreed it’ll be fully familiar to fans when TV Insider talked to him about just that. “The day-to-day of the show feels very much the same. I think the only thing that feels different, I would say, is just the level of freshness and excitement and it feeling like the rightful home for it and that being felt in the cast...
