The festival of Diwali is like the magic ray that illuminates everything it touches and the celluloid is no exception. For years, Bollywood films and storytellers have captured the essence of one of the biggest festivals of India with many of them being immortalised on screens forever.
As the world gets drenched in the colours and shimmer of Diwali, let’s take a look at some of the most iconic sequences in Bollywood movies.
Chachi 420: Kamal Haasan’s 1997 classic ‘Chachi 420’, which was inspired from ‘Mrs Doubtfire’ has one Diwali moment that served as a major driving force for the plot. The titular character of Chachi scores the job as a governess for his own daughter (played by a young Fatima Sana Shaikh) by rescuing her when an errant firecracker injures her.
Vaastav: Remember, “pacchass tola hai pacchass tola”? Yeah it’s from the Sanjay Dutt-starrer ‘Vaastav’ in which he plays a gangster.

After Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible, there is the Kapoor Cruise. Rishi Kapoor won't be here for the release of his new eagerly awaited film All Is Well.
Explaining his absence the versatile actor says, "All of us are off on a 3-week Mediterranean cruise. It was planned long before. There's no way I'd give up that to be here for my film's release."
'All of us means' the entire Kapoor Khandaan. The matriarch Mrs Krishna Raj Kapoor, her three sons Randhir, Rishi (with wife Neetu) and Rajeev and two daughters Reema and Ritu, their husbands , children...and so on.
So is this cruise inspired by Zoya Akhtar's Dil Dhadakne Do? Rishi protests furiously, "Please! We've been doing this for years now. It's just that no one knew about it."
On Tuesday, before Rishi leaves for the cruise, he will be shooting an episode of Comedy Nights With Kapil.

To celebrate the choreographer’s birthday, we thought we would shine the light on his work in films! He truly has an eye for creating incredible creativity with his choreography on screen and we know you will enjoy watching every one.
‘Dhoom Again’ – Dhoom 2
The huge success of Dhoom 2 helped to solidify Hrithik Roshan’s career and no doubt his remarkable dance performance in the opening song ‘Dhoom Again’ showed him at his finest. Shiamak was of course responsible for the jaw-dropping choreography that can be seen throughout the song. It’s bold, edgy and something which we have never really seen in Bollywood before. Salman Khan insisted on the movie-shy theatre stalwart Nadira Babbar for his mom's role in Jai Ho. And the bonding is there for everyone to see. In the past it was Reema Lagoo who constantly played Salman's mother in film after film since Main Pyar Kiya. In his recent films barring Dabangg, where Dimple Kapadia played his mother, Salman's character has not had a mother-figure in his reel life. In the Dabangg sequel, the mother was no more. And that isn't a coincidence. Says a source very close to Salman, "Bhai takes the mother's role in all his films very seriously. There was a time after Maine Pyar Kiya when Reemaji (Reema Lagoo) was Salman's favourite screen-mom and he insisted on having her play his mom. After Reemaji the one screen-mom whom he really warmed up to was Hemaji." Apparently, when a screen-mom was required in Sohail Khan's Jai Ho,...

Out of all the characters that you will come across in an Indian film, one that you will rarely see go astray is a mother. That too, the hero’s mother. She is an entity that restrains him with no physical bounds, gives him strength like no other energy drink, drives him to lengths beyond imagination (all within 2.5 hours) and without her, teaches him lessons universities worldwide have yet to discover. From being a sari clad soap opera box drama queen to a sophisticated career driven business magnet, she has transformed in front of us but one thing remains. The positive energy one feels from our filmi “Ma”. It may be a scene or a song, but she is there and her love unconditional. Yes, there may be some stories that forget about her, yet there is no denying, our cinematic mothers have sometimes been the saving grace for our films.

Thiruvananthapuram, March 14: The Kerala Film Chamber has decided to ban actress Rima Kallingal's films because she is doing a TV show for a Malayalam channel, disregarding a recent notice of the chamber.
A warning was given recently by the chamber to mainstream stars who are involved with reality shows on TV channels.
Besides Rima, the list includes Siddique, Archana Kavi, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Kaniha.
All the others, except Rima, replied to the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (Amma) and the Kerala Film Chamber, and therefore the chamber has decided to take strong action against her.
Any of her.

We dropped back in at WWE Tough Enough to see how this current incarnation of the reality series is holding up. From the looks of it, it’s settled into its intended groove. Stone Cold Steve Austin is still a gruff host; Bill DeMott, Trish Stratus, and Booker T are still busting butts into shape; and the contestants are still chasing that not-so-elusive dream of becoming a part of the WWE (except for Ariane and Matt, who are wearing belts with the word “KMart” on them instead of the word “Champion”).
On the Non-spoilery side: tonight’s episode will feature Mickael taking his hatred of Ryan to new heights, Rima continuing to shed her image of a beauty queen, and guest appearances by WWE Superstar The Big Show — who helps the contestants work on reversals and rolls — and WWE Diva Stacy Keibler — who teaches the contestants the technique of cheerleading...

Vega made a big impact as a student in the title role of Saroja in Kollywood last year and was immediately snapped up for her first Bollywood break in the movie Aamras, where she plays the part of a schoolteacher. Was she happy with the outcome? "Yes. Very much so," she confirms, "Aamras is a small film with a comfortable mix of newcomers and established actresses like Reema Lagoo and Zarina Wahab. Pakistan's top actress Reema Khan has been making her latest film Life Is So Beautiful / Kitne Haseen Hai Zindagi in Malaysia with Johnny Lever and Muanmar Rana. "It's not easy for me to shoot in Pakistan because people recognise me and they stop me and ask for autographs which is fine but there is too much to do when you're a producer, director and actor," she explains, "People don't recognise me so much in Malaysia so I can go ahead and do my work."
Although not so well known internationally, Reema is often compared to Aishwarya Rai. "It was the Indian press who compared me to Aishwarya Rai when I went over to India," she says, "We have a lot in common because we're both leading actresses from our respective countries and I am the face of Pepsi while she is the face of Coca-Cola. She is the face of Lux and so am I.

2008 will always be known as an historic year — for the passing of gay marriage laws in two states (and the tragic reduction of those rights in four), for the election of the nation’s first president of color, and for the downturn of the economy.
Years from now, when we talk about 2008, it’s likely that we’ll be discussing these events, rather than any specific lesbian film that came out.
But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a banner year for lesbian cinema.
While there were still extremely few mainstream movies with notable lesbian/bi characters, the overall quality of representation was decidedly — and dramatically — on the rise.
2008 saw an encouraging dearth of murderous, victimized or man-hating lesbian characters in any level of production (from smaller indie flicks to big-budget movies).
Women of color were better represented than in many years past, gross stereotypes were avoided, and new talents emerged.
