The next chapter of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Monster anthology series has gained some significant star power as Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny join the cast as the parents of the Menéndez Brothers, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menéndez. The upcoming season, officially titled Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story, focuses on the Menéndez brothers, who were convicted of the murders of their parents in 1996.
According to authorities, the brothers murdered their parents to inherit their father’s fortune. However, the brothers say they killed their parents after years of mental and physical abuse. Nicholas Alexander Chavez (General Hospital) and Copper Koch (They/Them) play Lyle Menendez and Erik Menéndez, respectively.

Olivia Walton would never. The Waltons star Michael Learned recently reunited with her onscreen daughter Judy Norton for a cooking lesson and a chat about their time on the classic CBS drama. During their conversation, Learned admitted that in real life, she wasn’t quite as squeaky clean as her character on TV, much to the shock of some fans.

Christmas was a special time for the Walton family. Even when times were tough, Olivia and John Walton found a way to make the holiday special for their seven children, as seen in multiple episodes of the popular show, which ran for nine seasons on CBS. Over the years, The Waltons aired four episodes focused on the December holiday, in addition to the Christmas movie that kicked off the series. Here’s every Waltons Christmas episode ranked according to IMDb.

"Good night, John-Boy. Good night, Elizabeth. And good night, daddy. Good night, son. And good night, mama. Good night, Mary Ellen. Good night, Jim Bob." Even if you've never watched a single moment of the classic TV show "The Waltons," the impact the series has had on television continues on even to this day. With the series' roots stemming back all the way to one of the most hated episodes of "The Twilight Zone" in history, references to "The Waltons" have extended all the way to films like 2016's "The Nice Guys," where Matt Bomber's villainous Dr. Malek is given the code name "John Boy" as he shares a similar facial birthmark to John-Boy actor Richard Thomas.

Evan Peters and his “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” co-star Niecy Nash-Betts are currently the odds-on favorites to take home the Emmys for Best Limited Series/TV Movie Actor and Best Limited Series/TV Movie Supporting Actress, respectively. If both prevail in January, “Dahmer” will join a very small group of programs that have bagged both prizes.
Since the limited series/TV movie supporting acting categories were created in 1975, only four programs have won both awards. The first to do it was the telefilm “The Promise” (1986), which racked up victories for James Woods in lead and Piper Laurie in supporting. It was followed by another TV movie, 1996’s “Rasputin: Dark Servant of Destiny” (Alan Rickman and Greta Scacchi), and the two-part miniseries “George Wallace” in 1998 (Gary Sinise and Mare Winningham).
Rounding out the quartet is another miniseries, “Angels in America,” which triumphed for Al Pacino in lead and...

All season long, the Emmy race for Best Movie/Limited Supporting Actress has been a battle between two front-runners: Niecy Nash-Betts (“Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”) and Claire Danes (“Fleishman Is in Trouble”). Can anyone stop them from winning the trophy? Based on the combined odds at Gold Derby, the rest of the category is likely to be a mix of actresses from popular series like Maria Bello and Ashley Park (“Beef”), and beloved favorites from series not as much on the radar like Olivia Colman (“Great Expectations”) and Cherry Jones (“Five Days At Memorial”). But it’s still anyone’s game.

This year’s first-round Primetime Emmy nominations ballot includes a total of 51 Best Limited Series hopefuls. This is down from 2022’s unusually high total of 61, yet still much higher than 2021’s 37, 2020’s 41, and 2019’s 35.
All 20,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until June 26 to cast their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for programs. Unlike the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally. After six years of not having to limit their choices in any categories, members’ selections can now not be greater than the number of eventual nominations for a given award, which, in this case, will be five.
Unlike comedy and drama series, which simply appear on the ballot by name, the limited series submissions include plot descriptions and cast lists. Which of the shows listed below do you think will land in the final lineup on...

Welcome to Emmy Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Emmy race — via Slack, of course. This week, we revisit limited, where the supporting categories will have seven slots again.
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! We’ve reached the final push before next month’s nominations: Emmy voting is happening right now and the 2023 ballots were a boon to actors competing for attention in the limited series supporting actor and actress races. This year, like last year, there will be seven slots in those categories — meaning it just got a whole lot more likely that our favorite stars from “Beef,” “Black Bird,” “Love & Death,” and “Monster” will score deserved nominations. I went ahead and added Michael Learned to my supporting actress picks, and I know you’ve had the “Monster” star in there for weeks. The extra slot...

Dahmer – Monster may have been a dark series about a serial killer, but Michael Learned thinks she got the role as the cannibal’s grandmother by showing off her wry sense of humor.
While shooting a self-tape for the role of Catherine Dahmer, Learned’s manager suggested that she include a full body shot as part of the audition.
“I said, ‘oh God, if I’d known you were gonna do that, I would’ve worn a bra,” Learned recalls to Deadline. “I hiked up my boobs. I thought my manager was going to cut it out. But he left it in and I think I probably got the part because it just made them laugh.”
An ability to put viewers in stitches wasn’t exactly a requirement of the job. Instead, Learned was hired to portray Dahmer’s rather tolerant grandma who takes the young man into her home...

In the past decade or so, the television movie has been thought to possibly be dead. But don’t tell that to producer Sam Haskell, who won an Emmy for producing the 2021 television film “Dolly Parton’s Christmas On the Square.” In an exclusive video interview with Gold Derby (watch above), Haskell declares, “The TV movie is back!” He is back in the Emmy race this season as the executive producer of two films: “Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas” for Peacock and “A Waltons Thanksgiving” for The CW.
Both of Haskell’s films focus on the joy of the holiday season. For “A Waltons Thanksgiving,” a reimagining of the classic, Emmy-winning series,, the focus is on the Walton family encountering a troubled youth who will change the family forever. In “Mountain Magic Christmas” the focus is on the inimitable Dolly Parton and her struggle to put on a Christmas show that will lift audiences’ spirits.

Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! If the first Monday in May is reserved for the Met Gala, I can only assume the first Friday in May is all about the 2023 limited series Emmy race. That classification is maybe the most chaotic of the main Emmys races this year — we’re long past the days of “The Queen’s Gambit” and “Mare of Easttown.” At the moment, according to our odds, “Monster,” “Black Bird,” “Beef,” “Fleishman Is in Trouble,” “White House Plumbers” and “Daisy Jones & the Six” make up the expected list of limited series nominees. CBS’s hit series The Waltons told the story of a tight-knit family making do during the Great Depression. The show, which premiered in 1972 and ran until 1981, was based on creator Earl Hamner Jr.’s experiences growing up in rural Virginia in the 1930s. It made stars out of its cast, including Michael Learned, who played family matriarch Olivia Walton, and Richard Thomas, who portrayed the eldest Walton son, John-Boy. But what have Learned, Thomas, and the rest of cast been up to since the show ended? Keep reading for an update on the surviving Waltons cast members and what they doing now.

“The Handmaid’s Tale” is back in Emmy contention, for its fifth season, after sitting out last year’s cycle, which means Elisabeth Moss could cross into record territory. If she pockets a Best Drama Actress nomination on July 12, she will stand alone as the second most shortlisted actor in the category.
With eight bids in the category so far — five for “Mad Men” and three for “Handmaid’s” — Moss currently still shares that title with Sharon Gless, Mariska Hargitay, Michael Learned and Julianna Margulies. She could have achieved it last year with her lead turn on another show, Apple TV+’s “Shining Girls,” but she failed to earn recognition for the genre-bending thriller — which would have also made her the first person to garner drama actress citations for three different projects.

Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story premiered on Netflix at the end of September to a big reception, controversy, and attention from the True Crime world. The series has been making waves with its disturbing portrayal of one of America’s most infamous serial killers. While many have been focusing on Evan Peters’ chilling performance as Dahmer, there’s one classic TV star in the series that might have gone unnoticed.

Gunsmoke aired on the television network CBS for 20 seasons between 1955 and 1975. However, the cancelation surprised the cast and crew, who didn’t see it coming. An entire 12 years later, Gunsmoke returned in the form of movies made for television. This decision revived the beloved Western series for five films. Here’s a look at the IMDb ratings from worst to best.

Ryan Murphy‘s serial killer series spent seven weeks on the Netflix Global Top 10, making the list in 92 countries. It is currently Netflix’s second most popular English-language TV shows of all time, just behind Stranger Things 4. Squid Game remains the streamer’s most popular TV show of all time.

In November, Netflix ordered two additional installments of his Monster franchise following the success of Dahmer. The streamer didn’t disclose what the two additional installments of the Monster anthology franchise will cover but said that they will “tell the stories of other monstrous figures who have impacted society.

After a series of misses at Netflix, Ryan Murphy’s fortunes at the streamer are up in a big way. The producer’s two most recent series for the streamer, “Monster” and “The Watcher,” have been picked up for future seasons, Netflix announced Monday.
Both shows are true crime series that Murphy created with his frequent collaborator Ian Brennan, premiered this fall, and touted as one-season miniseries. “Monster,” which bore the full title of “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” during its first season, will return for two additional seasons as an anthology series, focusing on other “monstrous” figures in history. “The Watcher,” which Murphy and Brennan co-created with Eric Newman, has been renewed for a Season 2, and will presumably follow the same cast of characters as the first season.
“Audiences can’t take their eyes off ‘Monster’ and ‘The Watcher,'” Netflix global TV head Bela Bajaria said in a statement.

Netflix is going the anthology route with “Monster,” with the streamer ordering two additional seasons of the series. Netflix has also ordered Season 2 of “The Watcher.”
Both shows were created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. “Monster” launched Sept. 21, while “The Watcher” debuted on Oct. 13.
The first season of “Monster” was officially titled “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” and followed the life and crimes of the infamous serial killer. The two new installments will each focus on “other monstrous figures who have impacted society,” per Netflix.
“Monster” proved to be a massive success, debuting atop both the Netflix and Nielsen streaming charts. It was also the number one show on the Nielsen chart for three straight weeks. According to Netflix, it is the streamer’s second most popular English TV season ever.
“Audiences can’t take their eyes off ‘Monster’ and ‘The Watcher,'” said Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s head of global TV.

Ryan Murphy has another anthology after Netflix ordered two additional installments of his Monster franchise following the success of Dahmer.
The streamer has also ordered a second season of his drama series The Watcher.
Neither move is a surprise given the ratings success of both shows, particularly the outsized ratings of Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which is on course to reach 1B hours viewed in the coming weeks.
Both Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and The Watcher come from American Horror Story co-creator Murphy and Glee co-creator Ian Brennan.
Netflix didn’t disclose what the two additional installments of the Monster anthology franchise will cover but said that they will “tell the stories of other monstrous figures who have impacted society”.
Murphy is behind an incredible number of franchises including American Horror Story, American Horror Stories, American Crime Story, American Love Story, Feud and 9-1-1.

The true crime mini-series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is one of the biggest hits the Netflix streaming service has ever had, so a lot of subscribers have spent a good amount of time watching Evan Peters inhabit the role of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. Peters sat in on a panel with co-stars Niecy Nash and Richard Jenkins and Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story co-creator Ryan Murphy last Saturday, and during the panel it was revealed that Peters stayed in character for months while making the show.
Four months of prep and six months of shooting were required to bring Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story to the screen, and during that time Peters wore weights on his arms and lifts in his shoes to match the real Dahmer’s physicality and did extensive research to get his dialect right. Variety reports that Peters said,...

With another 205.33 million hours viewed last week, “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” is Netflix’s No. 2 English-language TV series of all time. Now above “Bridgerton” Season 2, “Dahmer” only ranks behind “Stranger Things 4.” Given the very significant gap, things will likely stay that way.
If you think 200-plus million hours of viewing in one week is a lot, it is. But “Dahmer” did a massive 300 million hours the previous week. In its opening week, “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” shocked by delivering the biggest Week 1 results (196.2 million hours viewed) for any Netflix series on record, English-language or otherwise. “Dahmer” debuted on a Wednesday, giving the Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan drama starring Evan Peters a two-day head start on many other Netflix premieres. With some variation, the streaming service typically premieres projects on Fridays.

This takes it to 701.37M hours viewed in its first three weeks after racking up 196.2M hours watched in its first week and 299.84M hours viewed during its second week.
For context, Stranger Things 4 saw 1.35B hours viewed in its first month.

Netflix’s “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” earned a whopping 299.84 million hours viewed in its first full week of availability. That performance makes the limited series the second most-watched English-language series in one week’s time behind “Stranger Things 4,” which technically had two larger weeks (335.01 million hours from May 30-June 5 and 301.28 million hours June 27-July 3).
The “English-language” distinction is important here as “Squid Game” is still the streaming service’s overall champ in both single-week and 28-day tallies. Netflix ranks shows and movies overall by their first 28 days; on that chart, “Dahmer” is already ninth (and damn close to eighth) all-time among English-language series. There is still lots of time left for “Dahmer” to climb up this chart:
Week 2 of “Dahmer” was way ahead of Netflix’s No. 2 show from September 26-October 2, “Dynasty: Season 5,” which was runner-up with 44.61 million hours viewed. Season 2 of “Fate: The Winx Saga” was...

The Ryan Murphy limited series, which stars Evan Peters as the notorious serial killer, has racked up 299.84M hours viewed during its second week on the service.
This puts it behind only Stranger Things 4 as Netflix’s second most watched English-language series in a week.
This is on top of the 196.2M hours watched in its first week after its launch on September 21.
For context, the fourth season of Stranger Things started with 301M hours viewed and its second tranche of episodes were viewed 335M.
The limited series has also surpassed the second season of Bridgerton, which topped off with 252M hours viewed.

The promotional train for Dahmer may have started late, but the lack of publicity for the series has seemingly resulted in more interest.
Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story beat Netflix records in its first week on the streaming service.
After just five days available, it secured 196.2 million hours of viewership, allowing it to hit the #1 spot in several countries.
The numbers make Dahmer the highest first week of viewership for a series debut on Netflix.
Granted, the numbers were probably helped by the fact that the series dropped on a Wednesday instead of a Friday.
We'll have more concrete numbers when the show has been available for longer.
The series narrowly beat Inventing Anna, which netted 195.97 million hours viewed.
Squid Game, which became the streamer's most-watched show ever, kicked off with just over 63 million hours viewed.

Our own Alex Maidy wasn’t very impressed with Netflix’s new limited series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which he gave a 6/10 review. A relative of one of Dahmer’s victims described the show as “cruel“. But Netflix subscribers certainly were curious to check it out. Netflix has announced that Dahmer debuted at #1 on the English TV list with 196.2 million hours viewed, making it the most viewed title on the streaming service this week. The series also broke into the Top 10 in 92 countries around the world. According to Deadline, Dahmer’s “hours viewed” number makes it one of the biggest hits on Netflix – at least since the streamer started reporting those numbers in June of 2021. The only shows that have had more hours viewed when they premiered were Squid Game, All of Us Are Dead, Stranger Things season 4, and Bridgerton season 2. Personally, I think it’s a...

Jeffrey Dahmer is a hit for Netflix and for Ryan Murphy.
Dahmer: Monster – The Jeffrey Dahmer Story drew a huge audience on its launch with 196.2M people tuning in since its launch on September 21.
Those numbers put it in the very top tier of Netflix hits since it changed the way that it reports ratings figures in June 2021.
Only Squid Game, All of Us Are Dead, season four of Stranger Things and season two of Bridgerton have beaten it in that period and the limited series beat shows such as Inventing Anna, which opened with 195.97M viewers, and the third season of You, which scored 179M.
It’s hard to compare to Murphy’s other Netflix series such as The Politician (September 2019), Hollywood (May 2020), Ratched (September 2020) and Halston (May 2021) as they all debuted before Netflix shifted the way that it reports its data, but it’s likely that The Jeffrey...

We have another look at Evan Peters as Jeffrey Dahmer, and it’s just as haunting as the last one.
While the first trailer aimed to show how Dahmer lured and killed his victims, this new glimpse at Ryan Murphy’s upcoming Netflix series “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” gives us an idea of just how many times the notorious serial killer was able to evade authorities.
The trailer opens with Dahmer driving down the road with giant, black trash bags in the back seat of his car. When he’s pulled over by an officer, he says that the bags are full of clippings from the yard. He’s sent home and, though we don’t see what’s inside the bags, the ominous tone leads us to believe it’s another victim.
The video then cuts to Dahmer’s neighbor, played by Niecy Nash, who is begging...

Why is Evan Peters so good at playing crazy? The new trailer for Netflix’s limited series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story showcases Peters’ extraordinary ability to get into truly psycho characters.
“I was very scared about all of the things that Dahmer did, and trying to commit to [playing this character] was absolutely going to be one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life,” stated Peters in an interview with Netflix’s Queue. “It was so jaw-dropping that it all really happened. Evan Peters is the latest actor to take on the role of notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and, as expected, his performance looks quite chilling.
Netflix released the first trailer on Friday for Ryan Murphy’s latest series, “Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.” In it, Peters’ version of Dahmer is determined to make sure his neighbors don’t find out about his nefarious activities.
The video opens with Dahmer bringing a man back to his apartment, who immediately complains about the smell emanating from the room. Behind him, Dahmer locks the door and closes in on the man and, while his murder isn’t shown, it’s heavily implied.

This year Showtime amassed a total of 17 Primetime Emmy nominations, the biggest chunk of which are for the new drama series “Yellowjackets.” The show could potentially score wins in six categories, including Best Drama Series and Best Drama Actress. That lead performing prize would go to Melanie Lynskey, who has now finally been recognized by the TV academy after two steady decades of small-screen work.

Her submitted episode, “Doomcoming,” involves the modern-day Shauna learning that the person who has been blackmailing her and her friends is not her paramour (who she killed out of misplaced suspicion) but rather her husband.
