The actor found fame as the cocky finance bro in The White Lotus. Now, as he stars in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, he talks to Tim Lewis about being ‘irritatingly competitive’, giving up music for acting – and whether James Bond really is on the horizon...
When Theo James read the script for the second season of The White Lotus, the British actor wasn’t immediately sure what he could bring to the part of Cameron. The character was “another finance bro”: cocky, suave and superficial. “Interesting,” he recalls, “but we’ve seen it a hundred times.”
At the audition, though, the 39-year-old James was won over by Mike White, who writes and directs the hit HBO series, a comic psychodrama revolving around the employees and hyper-wealthy guests of the fictional White Lotus hotel resort. The first season was set on Maui. The second, with a mostly new cast,...

The year’s shortest month gets the biggest bang as Severin Films today announced their February 27th releases featuring uncensored 4K restorations of the infamous 1960’s western ‘roughies’ from the depraved minds of exploitation legends Bob Cresse and Lee Frost, Hot Spur and Scavengers.

Previous limited edition title Spider Labyrinth also enters wide release.
Here’s everything you need to know about Severin’s February 2024 lineup…

The hugely popular TV series Ted Lasso is a case study of being nice and decent. As it reaches the final whistle, Tim Lewis meets its creator and star, Jason Sudeikis
Jason Sudeikis felt, weirdly, not that weird when he stepped into the Oval Office of the White House, back in March. Before he was the creator and star of Apple TV+’s feelgood global sensation Ted Lasso, he spent almost a decade writing and performing sketch comedy on the US show Saturday Night Live. One of his beats was impersonating politicians, and Sudeikis made recurring appearances as George W Bush and Joe Biden, when he was vice-president to Barack Obama, in a mocked-up version of the same room. So while his Ted Lasso colleagues were losing their minds – Brett Goldstein, the British actor who plays hard-nut ex-footballer Roy Kent, later admitted he was freaking out about what to do...

Mike Hodges, director of films like "Get Carter," "Croupier," and "Flash Gordon," has died in Dorset, England, at the age of 90, according to Variety. The site reports that Hodges' passing was announced by his friend Mike Kaplan, who worked on his film "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" as a producer. Hodges was known for crime dramas, with his last feature film released in 2003. He worked with Michael Caine in both "Get Carter," a British gangster drama, and 1972's "Pulp," about a pulp fiction author tasked with ghost-writing a celebrity's memoir, then solving that celebrity's murder.
Crime was a draw for Hodges, who said in an interview with Mulholland Books for his 2010 debut novel "Watching the Wheels Come Off," "Crime is the litmus that shows what's really going on below the surface. That's why I'm attracted to it. Besides, as one myself, sinners interest me more than saints." Writers also figured into another film from Hodges,...

“Fantastic Beasts 3” will be streaming on HBO Max next week, the streamer announced on Monday.

The third installment in the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise delves deeper into the backstory of Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) all the while the evil Gellert Grindelwald (now played by Mads Mikkelsen in a recasting following Johnny Depp’s exit) amasses his forces.
Unable to stop Grindelwald alone, Dumbledore entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?

Warner Bros’ Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is releasing ahead of domestic in 22 international box office markets this weekend, beginning in Holland and Belgium on Wednesday and including the UK, Australia, Germany, Japan, Spain and China through Friday. The latter, unfortunately, is not expected to serve up any magic given significant cinema closures.
Currently, estimates for the early offshore release are in the mid-50 million range. That’s down compared to the previous two films in the Wizarding World spinoff series. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in like-for-like markets and at today’s rates opened to 120M and 115M, respectively. Those films had gone out in a November corridor and played into Christmas, finaling at 580M and 495M internationally.
Again, China is a big drag this time around; the market contributed about a third of the opening grosses on the earlier movies.

For Ashley Walters, life has had its ups and downs. Now, ahead of a new season of Top Boy – not to mention directing and musical projects – the pieces are finally falling into place. He talks to Tim Lewis about loyalty, prison – and his new life on the Kent coast
Ashley Walters has noticed that, much as day slides into night, his greatest career triumphs are followed, often at alarming speed, by his most humbling derailments. He arrived in the early 2000s as a rapper, Asher D, with the 30-strong London garage collective So Solid Crew. He was a lead vocalist on their No 1 hit 21 Seconds, and they won a Brit award in 2002, a prize perhaps overshadowed by the altercation they had with the Irish boyband Westlife’s table on the way up to collect it. A month later, aged 19, Walters was convicted of possession of a converted air pistol loaded...

Kelly Macdonald loves to keep her audience guessing. After the drama of Line of Duty, the actor is now playing a secret agent in a wartime thriller. She tells Tim Lewis about big breaks and avoiding the spotlight
At 9pm, on a Sunday in early May last year, almost one in four of us on our scared, fractious, divided island hunkered down to watch the finale of the sixth series of the BBC police procedural Line of Duty. It was the largest television audience for a drama in Britain since modern records began almost 20 years ago. It was also a rare moment of mass connection, between genders, ages and demographics, that usually only occurs during football tournaments or the Olympics. One that felt especially heightened because of the crappy, house-bound year we’d all just lived through. Mainly, though, it was just fizzing, nerve-jangling TV.

It’s not often a young actor finds himself shooting scenes with the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Aniston or Michael Keaton. But such has been the meteoric career of Will Poulter. He talks to Tim Lewis about boomerang eyebrows, acting and activism – and his sneaker obsession
The actor Will Poulter arrives for our lunch date alone, 15 minutes early and, perhaps counter-intuitively, carrying a bag of his own food. He explains that he’s on a strict diet for a film role, but can’t tell me what the part is. He buys a juice from the café that I’m not sure he actually wants, and suggests we sit outside, which is pretty damp and cold if I’m honest, because he thinks it would be taking the piss somewhat to occupy a table inside when he’s only bought a drink. Poulter’s thoughtful like that. He then...

Fantastic Beasts 3 is set to shoot in the spring of 2020, with all of the main cast members returning.
Fantastic Beasts 3 – the untitled third chapter in the latest film iteration of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter film franchise – is still on the way, even if 2019 proved to be an unproductive year for the film, which was delayed by Warner Bros. back in January. However, there's no need to panic, since the production push-back will see the cameras start rolling in 2020.
Indeed, the threequel, which was initially scheduled to get underway in July 2019, will kick off after experiencing a substantial scheduling setback. It seems that the crew weren't ready to get started on the film after only just finishing up on the last one, Fantastic Beasts, The Crimes of Grindelwald, which was just released back in November 2018 to mixed reviews, but nevertheless yielded solid box office returns.

The acclaimed director talks to Tim Lewis about his new film, Peterloo, and, further down, answers questions about creative freedom, beards, James Bond - and what Rada didn’t teach him
Mike Leigh sits before me, in his Soho office, a man without regrets – certainly with regard to his work, but probably in most aspects of his life, one suspects. If this doesn’t make him unique in the film industry, then he’s certainly in a tiny minority. The 75-year-old British director has made 20-odd films – from his TV work in the 1970s up to his latest release, Peterloo, perhaps his most ambitious and certainly his most expensive project yet – and he has never once had his arm twisted to compromise on his creative vision. He chooses the subject, handpicks the actors and the version we see on the screen is exactly the one that Leigh intended.

Harry Potter fans got a big surprise this morning in London. Gathered at the King’s Cross railway station for the annual “Back to Hogwarts” day (spoiler: it’s when the witches and wizards in the Harry Potter stories head back to school), they were greeted by two of the film stars from the Fantastic Beasts series.
Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law of the upcoming adventure Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (the second film of an anticipated five in the series), joined the fun at the annual gathering, which celebrates the departure on an ancient stream train to Hogwarts via magical Platform 9 ¾.
The annual gathering is a big moment for the U.K.’s Harry Potter fans. Each year on September 1st, they flock to King’s Cross by the thousands, often dressed as their favorite character from J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, to commemorate the day.

To celebrate #BackToHogwarts Day tomorrow, J.K. Rowling is joined by the cast and crew of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald to reminisce over their favourite Hogwarts memories in this brand new featurette.
Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is the second of five all new adventures in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.
At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MacUsa (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.
In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead.

Idris Elba is powering through his midlife crisis – 007 rumours and all. He talks to Tim Lewis
Idris Elba is currently in the grip of a midlife crisis – “really and truly,” he insists – but it is also somehow the most Idris Elba kind of midlife crisis. No flashy little sports car or grunting Harley-Davidson. He’s not started dressing ridiculously, either: today, in a hotel room in London, the 45-year-old actor is wearing black, from his Vans trainers to his fitted polo shirt. He has something like nine tattoos peeking out here and there, the most eye-catching being a lion, representing Sierra Leone, inside a star, the emblem of Ghana, on his right fist.
Instead, Elba’s midlife crisis mainly seems to take the form of saying “yes” to new experiences. Untouchable as a profoundly charismatic, swaggering leading man, he’s currently more interested in making himself feel uncomfortable. He’s...

Peter Pan is one of those films that we’re going to live with, in one form or another, every few years… forever. Knowing this, when news hits of another one, we put on a brave face and hope for something that won’t overly disappoint. Well, many of us also hope that it won’t aim for a completely crazy spin that has very little to do with the original story.
Then Joe Wright comes along, and flying ships are turning sideways, Hook is something of a good guy, and Hugh Jackman is Blackbeard.
Now you wonder if you weren’t wishing for the wrong thing all along.
Pan is closing in, and there’s a new of images from the production that really sell the fantasy. Take a look.

Giving both the film and the filmmakers some extra breathing room, Warner Bros. Pictures’ action adventure Pan has been moved from its previous July 24th opening to fall and will begin its global launch with the new domestic release date of October 9, 2015.
The announcement was made today by Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, and Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President, International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.
In making the announcement, Fellman said, “We wanted to give ‘Pan’ the space to extend its theatrical run, so taking it out of the cluttered summer season made the most sense. For the second consecutive year, Warner Bros. Pictures International has exceeded the coveted $3 billion mark at the international box office. This benchmark comes on the heels of the release of The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies, a production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, which surpassed $400 million at the international box office this weekend and is still going strong.
Nine Warner Bros. Pictures films have exceeded $100 million internationally, topped by Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar (with Paramount Pictures), which has taken in an astounding $467 million outside of the U.S. to date, and Godzilla (with Legendary Pictures), which has earned $327 million overseas.

The slipper was designed by three-time Academy Award-winning costume designer Sandy Powell (“The Aviator”) and produced by Swarovski, and is a magnificent work of art.

I just wanted to give you a heads up that Tom Cruise's new sci-fi film All You Need is Kill has been re-titled Edge of Tomorrow, and a badass new poster has been released for it!
Personally I think All You Need is Kill is a much better title. Edge of Tomorrow sounds like a basic, boring movie title for a film I wouldn't be interested in seeing. It also sounds like a film Roland Emmerich would direct.
Warner Bros. has announced that they are officially bringing the movie to Comic-Con, and they will give fans a look at the first footage from the Doug Liman-directed film. I can't wait to see it! Especially after seeing this poster. Here is the press release with all of the details:
