Premiered in 1989, the long-running animated sitcom, The Simpsons, is currently making headlines for fast approaching the end of its milestone Season 35. However, despite reaching an astonishing 766 episodes, the animated series shows no signs of slowing down. Co-showrunner Al Jean and writer/producer Matt Selman even revealed their future plans for the show.

Although The Simpsons will be wrapping Season 35 within a few days, it’s been reported that the show has already been renewed for Season 36 arriving next year. With the next season, the series will eventually cross the 800-episode milestone. And yet it seems there’s no potential end of sight for those helming the show.

"The Simpsons," now in its 500th season (okay, it's actually in season 35, but who's counting?) recently made headlines by killing off a character who has been with the show since the beginning. It's not the first time the classic animated sitcom has bumped off a character — Maude Flanders famously died, as did Bart's teacher Mrs. Krabappel, and both instances left poor Ned Flanders a widower. Bleeding Gums Murphy's death sent Lisa Simpson into depression. Dr. Marvin Monroe was said to have died, only to then return. Then, of course, there's the unfortunate Frank Grimes, who died after grabbing some electrical wiring in one of the show's most infamous (and best) episodes. In short, death is nothing new to Springfield — especially when you consider how long "The Simpsons" has been on the air. The characters may not exactly age, but time marches on.
However, this recent character death seems to be getting to people.

Larry Dalrymple is no more. The frequent regular of Moe’s Tavern was killed off in a recent episode of The Simpsons and fans are quite upset with the death of the long-time character.
While speaking with Variety, The Simpsons co-executive producer Tim Long apologizes for the death of Larry but offers an explanation for why they did it. “I’m sorry if some fans are upset, but we really wanted to use Larry’s death as a way to show that even the most peripheral people in our lives have dignity and worth, and that we really shouldn’t take anyone for granted,” Long said. “To paraphrase Shakespeare, nothing became Larry’s life like the way he left it: drunk, lonely, and with a butt full of sapphires.“
Long continued, “To me, it’s sort of fitting that some fans are taking Larry’s demise as hard as Homer and his friends do.

“The Simpsons” fans are still reacting to the surprise death of Moe’s Tavern regular Larry Dalrymple — aka Larry the Barfly — on Sunday’s episode, “Cremains of the Day.” And “The Simpsons” co-executive producer Tim Long has the explanation for why the show did it.

In today’s world of instant gratification, The Simpsons is a glorious anomaly. For 35 years and over 750 episodes, the iconic animated sitcom has entered the living rooms of many generations of audiences and has still managed to remain relevant. Apart from the main characters becoming like family, the show has also stood out for its periphery roles that have gained cult status.

One of these characters who has appeared since the inception of the show in 1989 is Larry ‘The Barfly’ Dalrymple. While he has mostly been a fly-on-the-wall personality, he endeared himself to hardcore fans of the show. Now, after almost three and a half decades, Larry The Barfly is officially dead. Executive producer Tim Long responded to the depressed reactions from fans and explained why this had to happen.

His name is…or, rather, was, Larry Dalrymple. He was not mentioned very much on The Simpsons, but he was a longtime patron of Moe’s Tavern, drinking his life away and earning the nickname “The Barfly.”
Through 35 years, he held down a stool at Moe’s. And now, he’s gone, and fans of The Simpsons can’t bear the loss.
Social media is in deep mourning for the animated Larry, whose demise was revealed in the latest episode of The Simpsons. He dropped dead in Cremains of the Day, the season 35 episode that aired this past Sunday.
Tim Long, a co-executive producer, said that the creative team of the show intended to shock and awe viewers. Talking with TMZ, he said that while he was sorry if the plot point upset fans, it points out how beloved the show is.

This article contains spoilers for the Disenchantment series finale.
A new animated series from Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons and Futurama, should have been a clear winner and modern cartoon classic. Oddly enough, Bean’s misadventures through Dreamland and its constant fantasy genre subversions in Disenchantment have barely left a mark on the medium. It initially seemed like Disenchantment had somehow learned the worst lessons from The Simpsons and Futurama through a focus on dense lore and heavy serialized stories. Disenchantment, while fun, would struggle with its growing scope and undergo a perpetual identity crisis on the type of series it wanted to be and what it does best.
It’s been a bumpy journey, but Disenchantment impressively pulls everything together for its final season. This last batch of episodes finally figures out how to use this big world and its many supporting characters after seasons of awkward attempts to connect these dots.

Disney's D23 Expo is taking over the weekend, and /Film's Dalin Rowell is there on the ground today reporting back on the latest and greatest news from the animation giant's lineup of shows and movies. The latest comes from the panel from the long-running Fox series "The Simpsons," which also included a faux announcement for the Simpson Cinematic Universe. Despite the extensive Marvel parody, the rest of the panel makes it sound like "The Simpsons" may still be sticking with the small screen for a while longer.
In a wide-ranging discussion that also included insights into the show's future guest stars and a super-sized Treehouse of Horror special, the team declined to confirm whether or not more "Simpsons" movies are on the horizon. The topic came up when actor Yeardley Smith, who plays Lisa and moderated the panel, asked writer Tim Long how it feels to watch old episodes of the show.

Just days after Fox made a portfolio pitch to advertisers at its upfront showcasing Fox shows, including The Simpsons, and Fox News in the same breath, Matt Groenig & Co. shot back.
Sunday night’s season finale of The Simpsons called out Fox News and Facebook for spreading misinformation, stoking fear and, well, a fondness for dictators.
At one point, a Tucker Carlson-like character is shown saying, “Putin for president, next on Fox News.”
At another point the lyrics, “Facebook feeds our fright. They convince us things were great when gas was cheap and men were white” are heard as a Mark Zuckerberg-like character presses a red button that reads “death of democracy.”
There’s also an eight-minute song and dance in which a musically-gifted janitor — voiced by High Jackman — helps Bart tune in to the collapse of the U.S. middle class.

Photo: ‘The Exchange’/Quiver Distribution First Impressions: Godforsaken, Canada Tim Long is from Hobart, Ontario in ‘Godforsaken’, Canada. Tim is an unpopular but intelligent high school student with a taste for ‘The Smiths’ and French New Wave films. Tim is looking for a best friend; an uber-cultured, European one, if possible. Ed Oxenbould - whom you might recognize from M. Night Shyamalan’s 2015 horror film ‘The Visit’ - plays this protagonist and narrator, Tim. His desperation for a like-minded companion leads him to submit an application to host a foreign exchange student from France, but his anticipation quickly turns to alarm when he finally meets his match: Stephane, played by Avan Jogia, who appears in a cool-toned, color block windbreaker and a single dangly earring; an image of mid-80’s euro-pop. His warm peculiarity is welcomed by the Long’s and the rest of the town, but Tim is less than thrilled.

The Exchange takes place in the fictional small town of Hobart, in Ontario, Canada, during an economic recession in 1986. In snowy Hobart, "home of the white squirrel," teenager Tim Long (Ed Oxenbould) feels alone and misunderstood. Nobody else seems to be interested in literature, the music of bands like The Smiths, or French cinema (his favorite film is Jean-Pierre Melville’s Le cercle rouge). Tim applies for an exchange program that brings French students to Canada, with the desire for a friendship. The boy imagines spending time with someone as cultured as him, however, when he finally meets the visitor, his expectations aren’t met at all. The film's co-star is Parisian Stéphane (Avan Jogia), a charismatic and lively young man whose main interests are limited...

The sentiment that The Goonies should be left alone is a popular one, especially now that the director, Richard Donner, has passed away. But the realization that there was a musical that was being worked on by Donner and his wife, as well as Tim Long, might interest some fans, but make others cringe. This appears to have become a type of trend, to mention or perhaps even make a favorite movie into a musical, as Back to the Future went this route, but wasn’t even considered for another movie. On one hand, making another movie would be pretty tough

Quiver Distribution has acquired U.S. rights to “The Exchange,” a new comedy from the co-creator of “Borat” and “Bruno.”
Directed by Dan Mazer, an Oscar nominee for writing the “Borat” movies and the maker of “Dirty Grandpa,” the film follows a socially awkward but highly enterprising teenager who decides to acquire a “mail-order best friend.” While he hopes to find a sophisticated exchange student from France, he instead ends up importing his personal nightmare, a cologne-soaked, chain-smoking, sex-crazed guy, who quickly becomes a community hero. The movie stars Justin Hartley (“This Is Us”), Avan Jogia (“Zombieland: Double Tap”), Jennifer Irwin (“Bad Teacher”) and Ed Oxenbould (“Wildlife”). Emmy Award-winner Tim Long (“The Simpsons”) penned the script.
Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed.
“Dan, Tim and the entire cast have created a laugh-out-loud comedy that audiences will unquestionably go crazy for,” said Quiver Distribution Co-Presidents Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman.

The Simpsons aired one of its most pointed parodies this past weekend, “Panic on the Streets of Springfield,” and the hits keep on coming. Animation Domination on Fox dropped “Everyone Is Horrid Except Me (And Possibly You),” the new music video by Quilloughby (with Lisa Simpson), which came out on The Snuff’s label, Total Despair Records.
The lyrics are inspired sub-genre satire. “Everyday I try to smile, but can’t help but frown, Every day I draw my bath and pray I will drown,” Quilloughby (voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch) sings, and heaven knows he’s miserable, now and forever. Listen and abandon hope.
The song captures the feel of the nihilistic depression rock of days past, and the episode caught the eye of the sardonic satiric subject.

The Simpsons recently struck a chord with former Smiths frontman Morrissey, whose manager Peter Katsis chewed out the long-running Fox animated series for “trying to capitalize on cheap controversy and expounding on vicious rumors.”
Late Sunday evening, Katsis shared a lengthy post on the singer’s official Facebook page responding to the show’s “Panic on the Streets of Springfield” episode, which aired on Sunday. It saw Lisa Simpson create an imaginary friend named Quilloughby, who leads the band The Snuffs. Voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, Quilloughby is a “depressed British singer from the 1980s” who may resemble the former frontman of The Smiths. While The Simpsons character may even look like the British rocker, the episode even features Morrissey-esque songs written by Flight of the Conchords‘ Bret McKenzie and Tim Long.

The parody by “The Simpsons” of British singer Morrissey wasn’t received well by Morrissey, or at least those close to him.
In a Facebook message on Morrissey’s official page signed by his manager Peter Katsis, “The Simpsons” was called out for “expounding on vicious rumors” regarding Morrissey, who has been criticized for comments in recent years on race. He has referred to Chinese people as a “subspecies” and mocked London mayor Sadiq Khan’s accent.
“Sadly, The Simpson’s show started out creating great insight into the modern cultural experience, but has since degenerated to trying to capitalize on cheap controversy and expounding on vicious rumors. While “The Simpsons”’ parody of a “depressed British singer from the 1980s” — clearly styled at least partially on erstwhile Smiths frontman Morrissey — has gotten rave reviews in many quarters, the man himself is apparently less than thrilled. The singer was satirized as an imaginary friend of Lisa Simpson’s named Quilloughby, from a fictional band called the Snuffs, who, like Morrissey, was a vegan with a quiff a glum outlook.
The character was voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch; the episode was titled “Panic on the Streets of Springfield,” in reference to the group’s 1986 single, and it features many references to the singer (an Oscar Wilde poster) and the Smiths’ album artwork.
Morrissey has made multiple questionable comments about race over the course of his career, particularly in recent years, in which he has supported a right-wing British political group, called Chinese people a “subspecies” and mocked London mayor Sadiq Khan’s accent.

This The Simpsons review contains spoilers.
The Simpsons Season 32 Episode 19
The Simpsons Season 32, episode 19, ” Panic on the Streets of Springfield,” is one of the most pointed parodies the series has crafted in a while. It takes on pre-teen angst with the dry iced wit of an 80s anti-Brit-pop band. But it also follows a slow, sad slide into anguished irony.
I was looking for a laugh, then I found a laugh, and heaven knows I’m miserable now. My head hangs heavy with the pain of laughter. Not only does the episode strip Lisa of what appears to be perfectly suitable accompaniment for a life of lonely elitism, it also makes us all rethink Slapify. It may offer Millennial rock at Baby Boomer prices, but it teaches Lisa good taste is a curse.
The spiky haired, middle child is very picky about her music. After hating everything she hears, Slapify...

Stop me if you think you’ve heard this one before: Benedict Cumberbatch guest stars as a moody 80s-era UK crooner who becomes Lisa’s imaginary friend on this Sunday’s episode of “The Simpsons.” Variety has a first look at this Fauxissey as he gives his take on the citizens of Springfield; scroll down to watch.
In the episode “Panic on the Streets of Springfield,” Cumberbatch plays “Quilloughby,” described as Lisa’s “new imaginary friend — a depressed British singer from the 1980s.” Also in the episode, “Homer becomes a truck guy in the all.” Helping write music for the episode: “Flight of the Conchords'” Bret McKenzie.
Of course, it doesn’t take much to realize “Quilloughby” looks, sounds and acts like noted moody vegan Morrissey.
“I grew up as a moody kid obsessed with catchy-yet-depressing indy music from England, so this show was sort of a natural for me,...

Updated with closing price. Apple’s $4.99-a-month entry into the streaming derby “won’t drive profits” but “will eventually lead to an Amazon Prime-like bundle” and also help its product ecosystem, in the view of Wall Street firm Macquarie Research.
Ubs said the price is “lower than most expectations, undercuts all other rivals, and should spur adoption.”
Investors have seemed to mirror analysts’ largely upbeat reaction to Apple’s major product event Tuesday, sending the tech giant’s shares up nearly 3% Wednesday to $222.33 per share on above-average trading volume.
CEO Tim Cook presided over the nearly two-hour unveiling of a range of hardware and other offerings, including a new line of iPhones. The devices have drawn mixed reviews among the Apple-rati and in the all-important market of China. But Wall Street has generally concluded that the pricing plan reflects a shrewd strategy to drive hardware sales in the way that...

Well this is very exciting! In what could be a match made in heaven, Amazon has acquired the acting talents of Jeff Goldblum and Danny DeVito to star in a new half-hour series for the streaming service. And if that wasn’t enough, the show is created by Tim Long, the writer-producer of The Simpsons, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
In the new show, the actors will play an “iconic music duo from the past” who reunite despite the fact that over the years they have come to hate each other. Holy Crap Yes! It has been announced that Danny DeVito and Jeff Goldblum will be working together on a series for Amazon. This brings me such peace. I love both of these actors. They are both funny, talented, and weird. They are also so unique and to see them paired up makes me so happy.
In the series, DeVito and Goldblum will play Matt Downey (Goldblum) and Arlo Finkleman (DeVito), an iconic music duo from the past (like Hall and Oates or Simon and Garfunkle), who hate each other, but have to reunite. It will deal with these two crazy artists trying to get along with each other as well as all their loved ones, who are equally crazy.
I think what excites me more than the casting is the thought of them as an iconic music duo. Goldblum has a beautiful if not odd singing voice, and DeVito I recall singing in Disney's Hercules,...

Molly Shannon’s post-“Saturday Night Live” career is a diverse one: supporting turns in festival favorites like “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” and “Life After Beth,” memorable roles in studio comedies like “Talladega Nights” and “Evan Almighty” and plenty of off-beat television for small screen fans. Later this year, she’ll co-star in the much-hyped HBO comedy “Divorce,” starring Sarah Jessica Parker. If it seems like she’s casting her net all over the place, it’s at least partly by design. For Shannon, the key to both Hollywood success and creative fulfillment is simple: Working hard and always looking for something different.
Every now and then, the industry takes notice. At the recent Nantucket Film Festival, Shannon accepted the Compass Rose Acting Award. While there, she also supported first-time filmmaker’s Chris Kelly’s Audience Award winner, “Other People,” which opened the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year,...

YouTube's favorite German DJ has gone from the Internet to the big screen to TV. Flula Borg, a musician known for his idiosyncratic personality, will star in Cuckoo, an NBC comedy pilot based of a hit BBC Three series.

The series will be co-written by comedy writers Mike Burns, who writes the Twitter account, and Tim Long. Per Deadline: "On the show, Karl Welzein has developed his own philosophy of life, indulging in dangerously generous helpings of booze, fast food, and American pride. Since his wife kicked him out of the house, Karl has been crashing at his buddy Dave’s and living like a “true bad boy” with “plenty of babes” — in his own mind. Can't wait for the weekend!
