Do not go in with the misconception that Red is a serious C.I.A. flick and there will be no disappointment. That being said, this film is not to be missed. The beginning seemed to drag just a bit, and the script seemed ridiculous at times, but once it got going, there was no stopping the entertainment!
For those who may have missed the trailer, Red is about four retired C.I.A. operatives trying to have a normal life yet find themselves missing the high impact adrenaline rush of their former employment. They get the chance to get back in action when the new generation of C.I.A. starts busting down their doors with machine guns in tow bringing all matters of chaos. However, the young pups soon learn the meaning of the term “Red”. (R)etired (E)xtremely (D)angerous.

To celebrate the release of Red, in cinemas now, we have joined forces with Entertainment One to give away five exclusive goodie bags (pictured above) including a Red branded record bag, hoodie, bullet shaped Usb and case, and note pad.
Frank Moses (Bruce Willis), Joe Matheson (Morgan Freeman), Marvin Boggs (John Malkovich) and Victoria Winslow (Helen Mirren) used to be the CIA’s top agents, – but the secrets they know just made them the Agency’s top targets.
Frank, who was the agency’s most effective black ops agent of all time must now track down and reassemble the old team. First on the list is intelligence specialist Joe who is charming, disarming and lethal! Next is hysterically paranoid Marvin – an explosives expert with more lives than a cat….or pig! And finally, a dangerous decision is to enlist the help of hot shot sniper Victoria!

One of the supporting roles in 'Red' is played by Rebecca Pidgeon, who is married to David Mamet and primarily appears only in movies written and/or directed by him. When you see Rebecca Pidgeon in a film, you think David Mamet must be involved. As it happens, that's not the case with 'Red.' But it was enough of an excuse for us to imagine what 'Red' would have been like if it had been written by David Mamet.
David Mamet's 'Red'
Frank Moses (Bruce Willis): F***ers shot up my house.
Joe Matheson (Morgan Freeman): Your house?
Frank: My house, the f***ers shot it up.
Joe: Those f***ers.
Frank: Sons of b******.
Joe: Who were these f***ers?
Fran : Dunno. The Company, maybe. Black ops? The hell do I know?
Joe: Did you get--
Frank: Here, I got--...

Red can best be described by simply shrugging one’s shoulders. It’s the perfect physical reaction to fit this action/comedy where there is very little to hold onto or be thrilled by. With such a talented ensemble, this isn’t nearly as fun as it should’ve been. Robert Schwentke’s latest is a decently watchable film which is difficult to be excited or completely bored by.
Schwentke’s comic book adaptation of Warren Ellis’s gritty material lacks in punch and smarts. For a film that runs just over an hour and fifty minutes it feels tired, similar to its protagonist early on. Schwenkte’s handle of pacing is not as tight and as breakneck as needed. The stretches of characters conversing at length about the conspiracy going on, which is paper thin to begin with, is almost difficult to watch. If one forgets what’s going on,...

Director: Robert Schwentke Writers: Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber (screenplay), Warren Ellis (comic book) Starring: Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Karl Urban, Ernest Borgnine, Julian McMahon, Brian Cox, Richard Dreyfuss Red begins with the introduction of Frank Moses (Bruce Willis), an infamous ex-cia black-ops agent who is now in early retirement in the snow covered suburbs of Cleveland. Every week Frank gets a pension check in the mail that he promptly rips up so he can call in and report it missing to customer service agent Sarah Ross (Mary-Louise Parker), so they can have another flirty chat. Frank's life has gone dull until late one night uniformed assassins in black enter Frank's house to take him out. Frank kicks back into action and hits the road to pick up Sarah and seek out the "old" team who might also be in danger. Getting the team back...

It’s been a long time since a single film has featured the acting talent assembled in Red. But if there’s one thing this halfhearted action-comedy proves, it’s this: even Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren and John Malkovich (not to mention Mary-Louise Parker, Brian Cox and Ernest Borgnine) can’t enliven a story as deadly as that crafted by screenwriters Jon and Erich Hoeber, based on the Warren Ellis/Cully Hamner graphic novel. Co-opting the age old, out of retirement for one last fling blueprint, the film follows retired CIA agent Frank Moses (Willis) as he and his former colleagues are forced back into the game when government spooks try to rub them out. Heavily armed and dangerous geriatrics Joe Matheson (Freeman), the wiry and paranoid Marvin Boggs (Malkovich) and the distinguished Victoria (Mirren) assist Frank in some serious butt kicking, supplemented by quirky quips and knowing, wizened...

Payoff for this flick is watching Helen Mirren wield an AK47 laying suppression fire. Awesome!
There’s a lot that’s so good about ‘Red.’ A star studded cast, action, comedy, travel, and even a love angle – but its failure is asking you to believe this type of mayhem would ever be executed by our government for such a purpose. Alright, I was no fan of the graphic novel by Ellis and Hamner, but I can’t believe they suggested such elaborate plots to achieve an end result in comic form.
Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Mary-Louise Parker, & John Malkovich lead this thriller that blends high powered explosions with some really great laughs. Frank Moses (Bruce Willis – Hudson Hawk) is a happily retired ex-cia operative who suddenly finds that the very agency he worked for all his life is now part of a government-wide manhunt hell bent on killing...

E1 Entertainment have just sent us this rather awesome new poster (which is a mash-up of the character banners we’ve posted previously) and the third trailer for their latest all-out action movie, Red (Retired Extremely Dangerous which stars Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Karl Urban and Mary-Louise Parker.
This third trailer is very similar to the one that we posted here. The first half is identical then it appears to be the same footage cut together in the different order although I think there might be a few new bits in there.
Red is directed by Robert Schwentke and is released in the UK 22nd October.

As you may have noticed, we’re dedicating some serious time this week to the upcoming Summit Entertainment release Red, an adaptation of the popular Warren Ellis comic about a former CIA hit-man who is targeted by the very agency to which he gave his life. You know by now that this isn’t the grim tale that Ellis and Cully Hamner put together in book form, but more of an action comedy with a strong focus on old timers who decide to put the band back together and make a comeback. It’s a concept that I was initially skeptical of, but after seeing what the film is starting to look like, I’m starting to become a believer. With that, we continue our series of tales from the set and poster reveals with Joe Matheson, played by Morgan Freeman. … [visit site to read more]...

The first teaser for Red, Robert Schwentke's (The Time Traveler's Wife, Flightplan, Tattoo) adaptation of Warren Ellis' (Astonishing X-Men, Planetary, Nextwave, Global Frequency, Transmetropolitan, The Authority) and Cully Hamner's (Detective Comics, Blue Beetle, Down) comic book miniseries is now ready for your viewing pleasure.
In Red, Bruce Willis plays a retired CIA agent, Frank Moses, who can't adjust to life as a civilian, similar to the character he played in The Whole Nine Yards and the sequel, The Whole Ten Yards. Another former CIA agent, Victoria (Helen Mirren), offsets domestic duties with contract kills. Yet another agent, Joe Matheson (Morgan Freeman), has retired to a nursing home. A fourth agent(!), Marvin Boggs (John Malkovich), is in permanent survivalist mode. Moses confides his personal and professional problems to his handler, Sarah (Mary Louise-Parker). Got all that?
