Claire Foy and Richard E. Grant are set to lead a new period drama directed by Peter Glanz.
Titled “Savage House,” the eighteenth century black comedy also stars Bel Powley (“A Small Light”) and Jack Farthing (“The Lost Daughter”).
Kila Lord Cassidy (“The Wonder”), Richard McCabe (“Napoleon”), Vicki Pepperdine (“Poor Things”) and Pip Torrens (“The Iron Lady”) round out the cast. The film recently wrapped in the U.K.
“Set against the backdrop of eighteenth century England, a massive pox outbreak, and Jacobite uprising – this is a timely and darkly satirical story of Sir Chauncey Savage (Grant) and Lady Savage (Foy) and their blind pursuit of a better life,” reads the logline. “It is not without a tinge of irony that their family name is the Savages, for this is a Savage House indeed. Filled with duels, decadence, and bloodshed, this is a madcap play on class and power.”

According to our current combined predictions, Jodie Comer (“Prima Facie”) is the frontrunner to win Best Actress in a Play at this year’s Tony Awards with 12/5 odds. She already won an Olivier a couple of months ago for her work in the West End production. She would be the fifth Tony winner in this category for a one-woman performance.
In Suzie Miller‘s one-woman show, Comer plays Tessa, a barrister from working-class origins who must deal with an unexpected event that forces her to confront the patriarchal power and morality of the law.
When it comes to solo performances at the Tonys, four have prevailed in this category before. In 1977 Julie Harris won her fifth and final competitive accolade for her portrayal of Emily Dickinson in William Luce‘s “The Belle of Amherst.” In 1986 Lily Tomlin won for playing multiple characters in Jane Wagner‘s “The Search for Signs...

Writers know better than most how taking historical figures and dropping them into a world of fictional characters can sometimes run the risk of overwhelming the story at hand. The plot at the center of "Peaky Blinders," for instance, shares several parallels and intersections with actual historical events taking place during the time period that creator Steven Knight chose to cover -- specifically set during the moment in time between both World Wars in early 1900s Birmingham, England. While audiences have gravitated towards the drama of Tommy Shelby leading the Peaky Blinders from the local horse-racing scene in Small Heath to the seat of power at the center of the entire British empire, Knight wrote his scripts in such a way that he could easily integrate several historical figures into the action as well.

Myers will play 8 characters in total, including a Canadian journalist, a conspiracy theorist, a right wing radio host, "Lord Lordington" of The Pentaverate, an Ex-Russian oligarch, and a tech genius, among others. The Illuminati? So out of fashion. Comedian Mike Myers turns his focus on farcical secret society the Pentaverate in a new Netflix series of the same name. The series premieres May 5.
Myers plays eight different characters, including protagonist Ken Scarborough who is an old-school Canadian news journalist determined to uncover the secrets of the Pentaverate to win his job back. Other Myers alter-egos include that of a New England conspiracy theorist, a far-right radio host (slash conspiracy theorist…we’re seeing a theme here), a former Russian oligarch, an ex-rock-‘n-roll manager, a key Pentaverate tech genius, and the head of the secret society, villain Lord Lordington.
The six-episode series also stars Ken Jeong, Keegan-Michael Key, Debi Mazar, Lydia West, and Richard McCabe. Jennifer Saunders will also do double duty as a brother and sister duo. Rob Lowe and Maria Menounos will also make special appearances, and Jeremy Irons serves as narrator.

Comedy legend Mike Myers is back at it again, this time portraying eight different characters in the new Netflix limited series “The Pentaverate.” The show, from the mind of Myers, is based on a joke from his 1993 romantic comedy,“So I Married an Axe Murderer.”
In that film, Myers also played multiple roles, including not just the lead character, Charlie Mackenzie, but his father, Stuart. It’s Stuart who explains the Pentaverate as a nefarious secret society. Here’s the relevant quote:
Stuart Mackenzie: Well, it’s a well-known fact, Sonny Jim, that there’s a secret society of the five wealthiest people in the world, known as The Pentavirate, who run everything in the world, including the newspapers, and meet tri-annually at a secret country mansion in Colorado, known as The Meadows.
Tony Giardino [played by Anthony Lapaglia]: So who’s in this Pentavirate?

Netflix has dropped the trailer for “The Pentaverate,” Mike Myers’ new comedy series about a five-man secret society. Wouldn’t it be great if there really were secret societies holding ancient knowledge and the power to save the world? Maybe, maybe not, but if they had members played by Keegan-Michael Key, Ken Jeong and Debi Mazer, it’s a good bet we’d be fine either way. Luckily that’s the case in “The Pentaverate,” an upcoming Netflix series created by Mike Myers about a centuries-old organization (The Pentaverate) that ostensibly exists to save the world. But, based on the first trailer, appears to not be that great at it.

More than two years after the project was first announced, Netflix has released a title and details for a half-hour series in which SNL vet Mike Myers will play no fewer than seven different Scottish brogues characters.
The Pentaverate — now in production and produced by/starring Myers — will ask: “What if a secret society of five men has been working to influence world events for the greater good since the Black Plague of 1347?” As the six-episodes comedy series begins, one unlikely Canadian journalist finds himself embroiled in a mission to uncover that truth — and just possibly save the world himself along the way.

Mike Myers Netflix Series ‘Pentaverate’ Adds Six to Cast, Including Ken Jeong and Keegan-Michael Key
Mike Myers’ new Netflix comedy series has officially been titled “The Pentaverate,” with the show adding six new cast members.
Ken Jeong, Keegan-Michael Key, Debi Mazar, Richard McCabe, Jennifer Saunders, and Lydia West will all appear alongside Myers in the series, with Myers set to play seven new characters himself. Production is currently underway on the six-episode show.

Mike Myers’ limited series on Netflix just (read: finally) unveiled a whole bunch of details, including a title, plot and cast.
Production has started on the six-episode, half-hour comedy, now titled “The Pentaverate.” Myers will play seven brand new characters on the limited series, Netflix announced Tuesday.
“The Pentaverate” asks: What if a secret society of five men has been working to influence world events for the greater good since the Black Plague of 1347?
At the beginning of the streaming series, one unlikely Canadian journalist (we’re going to go out on a limb here and guess that’s one of Myers’ seven characters — he’s certainly Canadian) finds himself embroiled in a mission to uncover the truth and possibly save the world himself.
A final reminder for that character, straight from Netflix’s logline: Remember, the Pentaverate must never be exposed!

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for Season 4 of “The Crown” and British history between 1979-1990.]
Like the good public school types that they are, the British Royal Family isn’t above a bit of hazing to those who seek to enter its inner circle.
It’s known as “The Balmoral Test” and involves diligent bouts of outdoorsy activity at the Queen’s castle in Scotland. (Traipsing over steep hills in the mud! Stalking stags to kill! Wearing tartans unironically!)
Season 4 of “The Crown” debuts November 15 on Netflix, and early on you learn Margaret Thatcher wore high heels, brought a briefcase and a sneer to Balmoral, and unequivocally, catastrophically failed the test. Diana Spencer wore boots, bangs, and a sweet smile, and passed with flying colors.
In the end, though, they both lose the bigger game of conquering The Firm.
After a subpar Season 3, it turns out that what this ongoing narrative of Queen Elizabeth really needed was an enemy — or two.

"If we're not clever about this, no one will get to your brother!" Starting next week, Universal will release Sam Mendes' intense war movie 1917 in theaters worldwide. The nerve-racking film has been picking up numerous nominations and awards already, and is harrowing experience to see on the big screen. If you still need to be convinced it's worth seeing, give this final trailer a look. Set during World War I in the year 1917, the movie takes place over the course of one day, following soldiers on a "seemingly impossible mission" to deliver a message across enemy lines to stop a major attack. With one-long-take cinematography by Roger Deakins. Starring Dean-Charles Chapman and George MacKay, joined by a stellar ensemble cast with Benedict Cumberbatch, Richard Madden, Andrew Scott, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, and Richard McCabe. You can also still watch an extensive 10-minute featurette for 1917, as well as the first two trailers.

The “Game of Thrones” prequel pilot starring Naomi Watts is not going to series at HBO, Variety has confirmed with sources.
The cast and crew of the pilot were recently informed that HBO had passed on the project. The potential series was set to take place thousands of years prior to the events of the original series.
HBO declined to comment.
In addition to Watts, the pilot starred Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp, Toby Regbo, Miranda Richardson, Marquis Rodriquez, John Simm, Richard McCabe, John Heffernan, and Dixie Egerickx.
Jane Goldman co-created the project with George R.R. HBO is going to back to Westeros… again. The pay-cable network is nearing a pilot order for a second spinoff of its hugely popular “Game of Thrones” series, this one based on the Targaryen family, TheWrap has learned.
HBO declined to comment on the potential spinoff, which was first reported by Deadline, but an individual with knowledge of the project confirmed the report’s accuracy to TheWrap.
The series is from “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin and “Colony” co-creator Ryan Condal. It would be set 300 years before the events of the HBO fantasy series, which wrapped its eight-season run earlier this year. Representatives for Condal and Martin did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

HBO’s upcoming Game of Thrones prequel has yet to be given an official title, but that’s not stopping George R.R. Martin from trying to dub it himself. The author has referred in the past to the series as The Long Night, which the network has denied as being the name. “I heard a suggestion that it could be called The Longest Night, which is a variant I wouldn’t mind,” he says. “That would be pretty good.”

HBO is rounding out its ensemble cast for its Game Of Thrones prequel pilot. Marquis Rodriguez (When They See Us), John Simm (Strangers), Richard McCabe (Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams), John Heffernan (Dracula) and Dixie Egerickx (The Secret Garden) are set as series regulars in the drama pilot from writer Jane Goldman and author/Got co-executive producer George R.R. Martin.
Created by Goldman and Martin and written by Goldman based on a story by her and Martin, the untitled prequel takes place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones. It chronicles the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend — it’s not the story we think we know.
