When Andre Agassi was rising the ranks as a professional tennis player — en route to becoming one of the greatest American men to ever hit the circuit — he often felt forced to defend his hometown of Las Vegas.
“I was born and raised here,” Agassi said last Saturday during a press conference to promote The Netflix Slam featuring superstars Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz. “When I turned pro in 1,972 years ago, there was about 300,000 people that lived in this town. I would travel the world representing Vegas, having to answer some very basic questions such as, ‘What’s it like to live in a hotel?’ It was like, wait a second, Vegas is more than just a strip [of hotels]. To watch it evolve to a point where now we’re seeing not just sports come here, but we’re seeing the greatest environments for sports to participate in the Super Bowl and Formula 1 now here.

“Ok, I can die now.”
So said a woman seated behind The Hollywood Reporter inside Mandalay Bay’s Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, host of the inaugural The Netflix Slam. She had just snapped a selfie that captured superstars Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz warming up on center court over her shoulder. Sure, it was a dramatic statement but it wasn’t obscene for such an occasion. There’s no shortage of gasp-worthy moments in Sin City, and there’s no doubt many of the 9,489 seated guests could relate to the sentiment.
The Sunday afternoon showdown, the latest in Netflix’s push for live streaming events, pitted two superstar Spaniards in an exhibition match that could be one of the final few times they meet across a net. Former Atp No. 1 John McEnroe and his brother Patrick McEnroe are in the East African nation of Tanzania, where they encountered a gravely disturbing incident.
Dubbed the "World's First Serengeti Tennis Match," the Epic Tanzania Tour kicked off at the start of December and will last a week in one of the world's most iconic game parks. The McEnroe brothers are in Tanzania to explore untouched African safari and promote tennis.
The McEnroe brothers are amongst the most prominent siblings in tennis and have both enjoyed successful playing careers. Both have transitioned to become respected pundits due to their insightful tennis knowledge.
On December 5, the two brothers squared off in a 10-game pro set in front of aspiring young tennis players, government officials, dignitaries, and tourists. But disaster struck when a snake slithered onto the freshly minted court in the middle of roaming wildlife.

Brothers John McEnroe and Patrick McEnroe are set to play an exhibition match in Tanzania, but their decision has come under fire from human rights organizations.
The McEnroe brothers are one of the most successful siblings in the world of tennis, as they have both enjoyed a lot of success on the Atp Tour, and now with their careers over, they are both staying close to the sport.
Both serve as Team Captains for Team World at the Laver Cup, while John is doing commentary, among other things, while Patrick has his own podcast.
On top of that, they are also taking every opportunity to return to the court, even if it's not a tennis court. John McEnroe played in some pickleball exhibitions, but this time, he's set to compete against his brother.

Patrick McEnroe joined the choir in singing praises to Novak Djokovic after he confirmed his status as the world's best player in 2023.
Djokovic won a truly captivating year-long battle ahead of Carlos Alcaraz in the final tournament of the tennis season. He defeated Holger Rune last Sunday to put the crown on top of a stellar year, one he called one of his best seasons on tour.
This is the eighth time in his career he has finished a season as the year-end No. 1, the most of any Atp player. He's two clear of Pete Sampras on that front and three more than Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal - two of his greatest rivals.
Djokovic will officially conquer another landmark next week, becoming the first singles player to record 400 weeks as No. 1. And tennis commentator Patrick McEnroe did not miss out from lavishing praise on the Serbian's latest milestone in...

Novak Djokovic celebrated his win over Ben Shelton at the 2023 US Open by using his celebration, and Patrick McEnroe added his thoughts to the occasion.
Djokovic and Shelton battled for close to three hours in New York, with the Serbian ultimately ending up as the victor. He marked the win by copying the celebration Shelton made famous at this year's US Open, which was interesting to see.
Djokovic doesn't generally celebrate wins in any particular way, so fans were curious why he did this time. Apparently, he liked it so much that he used it. The handshake was a rather cold one, even though Shelton didn't say anything special about the whole thing after the match.
Patrick McEnroe has seen a lot of handshakes in his life, and he added his thoughts on the whole matter.
People commenting on the conclusion of the Djokovic-Shelton match. So let me say a couple of things about it.

Carlos Alcaraz was praised by John McEnroe after the Spaniard reached the US Open semi-final on Thursday, but it wasn't for his tennis ability.
Alcaraz cruised into the final four at the US Open after he defeated Alexander Zverev in straight sets during the quarter-final clash. Next up, the world Atp number one will face either Danill Medvedev in the last four as he aims for a second consecutive US Open final after winning the competition in 2022.
During his pre-match interview, Alcaraz was spotted wearing a pair of Nike Mac Attack sneakers, which were originally designed in 1984 for the former Atp great. McEnroe also noticed Alcaraz's shoe choice for the post-match interview and the former American player turned pundit had a link to the Spanish player via his brother, who was conducting the interview with the world number one.

Coco Gauff is very gifted but also has some flaws in her game at this stage of her career; understanding that some things need fixing.
Coco Gauff has had a very solid season so far but there is a prevalent sense that she's not really playing up to her level. Remember, this is a player who broke out as a 15-year at Wimbledon winning a couple of matches before establishing herself as a regular part of the Wta Tour as a 16-year-old.
Her Roland Garros final last year was one of her significant runs, and there are certainly more to come. Some have expected her to win a Grand Slam final by now and while that might be a bit unrealistic, we've seen it before. She is supremely gifted and this year, while fair, has not been up to the standard many expected her to play.
It's interesting because she started well.

Sebastian Korda will be playing in the 2023 Cinch Championships semifinals after besting home hero Cameron Norrie .
Without a doubt, the 22-year-old American is one of the most talented grass-court players when playing his best tennis. According to renowned coach Rick Macci, he will win Wimbledon one day , and even Patrick McEnroe named him a threat at the event .
But Korda has been away from the Atp Tour for a while after picking up an injury in the quarterfinal match against Karen Khachanov at the Australian Open. Since then, the American lost three matches, and won only one as he entered the grass-court season.
But that's the surface that suits Korda, and it didn't take long before it showed. First, he defeated Daniel Evans , then he outplayed Frances Tiafoe, and pumped after the win, he called himself one of the Wimbledon favourites .
Many considered the claim to be quite bold, but...

For the first few games, we saw both players hold their serve relatively easily with a few good rallies in there. Korda made the first step by breaking Evans midway through the first set to take a lead which he held for the rest of the set.
It's really good to see Korda playing tennis again because he's one of the most talented players of his generation according to long-time legendary coach Rick Macci. He...

Carlos Alcaraz had a chance to prove himself as a really great player against Djokovic at Roland Garros recently but he failed.
The Spaniard didn't lose because of his tennis but because of his mind as he simply got overwhelmed by the moment. It's not the first time Alcaraz dealt with something like that as he spoke about pressure more than once by now.
The mind is actually one thing that Djokovic does better than probably anyone, certainly a youngster who didn't play that much. His behaviour in the final was questioned by one former player who wants to see him learn to handle the moments better. His tennis for the most part was fine during the match but the cramps really derailed him.
By his own admission, it's probably more mental than physical which Patrick McEnroe agrees. Alcaraz looks formidable on the court so exertion likely didn't contribute to the cramps though it might.

Novak Djokovic is one of the greatest tennis players of all time but according to Patrick McEnroe, he's the greatest in some aspects.

Even if you don't consider him that, he's likely going to end up with the greatest tennis career of all time which is incredible. Former player Patrick McEnroe has raved about Novak Djokovic in the latest episode of his Holding Court podcast.
McEnroe, like most of us, watched the Roland Garros final and saw Novak Djokovic make history by winning his 23rd grand slam trophy . The Serbian was amazing at Roland Garros and he once again proved his greatness with the undertaking.
Not only did he outlast Carlos Alcaraz in brutal conditions, but he also downed Casper Ruud comfortably in the final, never seeing any trouble whatsoever. His win was major in many ways but to McEnroe, it proved just why he's the greatest ever. He just has the ability to adjust to any game, any opponent, any conditions, it's just magical.
Novak has that ability, which is part of the reason why he's the greatest ever. Understanding when he needs to be aggressive, when he needs to be neutral, when to be defensive,...

Coco Gauff didn't have as good of a run at Roland Garros this year, losing in the quarter-final of the event and it's probably her realistic reach for now.
Gauff played a really solid match against Iga Swiatek, pushing her the most she did in all of their matches so far, but ultimately Swiatek once again proved better . It was a disappointing end to her Roland Garros experience but probably a realistic one as she still has flaws in her game that she needs to take care of.
The run in Paris saw her work together with Patrick Mouratoglou again, though he won't be joining her team as her coach. She asked him for help during Roland Garros and he obliged as she has been part of his academy since she was ten.

The most anticipated match-up at Roland Garros would be a match between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic and we could get it before the final.
Alcaraz taking on Djokovic in the final of Roland Garros would be a very fitting end to a grand slam as they are the two biggest favourites for it. Unfortunately for tennis fans, it would not be a final because Novak Djokovic will be the 3rd seed at Roland Garros with Alcaraz being number one.
Medvedev's recent surge allowed him to rise all the way up to number two on the rankings and secure the second seed at the event. Djokovic dropped down to number 3 after a very lacklustre clay season so far that saw him battle an elbow injury among other things.
It's unfortunate when we see these matchups earlier in the event and it happened last year when Nadal played Djokovic in the quarter-final.

Patrick McEnroe thinks that Rafael Nadal's Roland Garros participation will be in serious doubt if he doesn't make his return in Rome.
Nobody really knows when Nadal will make his return to the tennis courts as there is very little information about it. In a recent update, Nadal himself admitted that recovery hasn't been going as well as the initial prognosis suggested.
His uncle was adamant recently that Nadal won't miss Roland Garros basically confirming that his nephew will take to the courts in Paris. Patrick McEnroe is not optimistic considering how things went so far. He shared his thoughts in his podcast.
So for those top guys obviously they’ve got injury issues as well. Rafa has more injury issues than Novak since he hasn’t played. Novak has had a little bit of an elbow problem but he’s been able to play so they’re fine with skipping Madrid.

Rafael Nadal is currently ranked outside of the top 10 but Patrick McEnroe feels like he should be seeded either first or second at the Roland Garros.
This year's Roland Garros will likely see Nadal with his lowest seed in years. The Spaniard is ranked outside of the top 10 at the moment and he's only going to trend downward as his return to tennis is still not clear. There might be even a chance that Nadal misses the event altogether, especially after his recent grim update but many would agree that he's likely going to play at any cost.
The question about Rafa is much dodgier. We don't know if he's gonna be ready. We've seen some video of him practicing. Normally he likes to play a lot on clay to get himself ready. He's the kind of guy that needs matches but does he really need that many matches at this point in his career?...
