Jeff Beck has stood silently in the wings smiling at all of us and every once in a while he will throw in a gem that will shine brighter than the best of them out there. Here is Jeff taking guitar expressionism to a new level. I use the word ‘expressionism’ because I consider the guitar an instrument of soulful interpretation as opposed to technical egotism. Darren Aronofsky's ballet drama The Black Swan begins shooting imminently, and is on the verge of securing co-financing and distribution by Fox's indie sub-label Searchlight, according to The Hollywood Reporter. No real surprise there, since it was Searchlight that picked up The Wrestler. Which did okayish...Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis have been undergoing intensive ballet training for the story of a life-or-death, slightly spooky rivalry between two New York ballerinas as a big performance approaches. It's now revealed that joining them in the cast will be Barbara Hershey and Vincent Cassel, plus Winona Ryder as "an older dancer". Not quite as old as Spock's mom, we hope, but this still makes us feel our age. Winona has moved up a generation! She's now playing mothers and mentors!Andres Heinz, John McLaughlin, Mark Heyman and Aronofsky himself have all had a hand in The Black Swan's script at one time or another.

Darren Aronofsky, director of the 2000 hit Requiem for a Dream, is back with his next project, Black Swan.
Black Swan is a supernatural thriller that follows dancers within the New York City Ballet. In particular, the film centers on Nina, a veteran of the stage who must fight to keep her place in the spotlight for a production of Swan Lake. Nina’s biggest rival is a dancer named Lilly, but here’s the kicker: Nina isn’t sure if Lilly is real, a delusion, or a supernatural apparition.
Casting details have been released, and Aronofsky has himself a cast that’s sure to deliver. Natalie Portman will be starring as Nina, with Mila Kunis playing the part of Lilly. Joining them on stage will be Winona Ryder, Vincent Cassel, and Barbara Hershey.

Winona Ryder has joined the cast of Darren Aronofsky’s upcoming supernatural thriller “Black Swan.”
Vincent Cassel and Barbara Hershey have also joined previously announced cast members Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis.
The movie, set in the world of the New York City Ballet, centers on a talented ballerina (Portman) who is tormented by a rival (Mila Kunis) who might or might not be a figment of the dancer’s imagination.
Natalie Portman stars as Nina, a veteran ballerina who finds herself locked in to a competitive showdown with a rival dancer Mila Kunis (Lilly). Nina is not sure whether her rival is a supernatural apparition or if she is having delusions.
Reports began circulating in August that the script includes a sequence where the two main characters (Nina and Lilly) have “ecstasy-induced hungry aggressive angry sex.”
Ryder will play Beth, a dancer who is coming to the end of her career.

We already knew that Mila Kunis had joined Darren Aronofsky's The Black Swan, as the rival ballet dancer who haunts Natalie Portman. But Kunis provides a few more details and titbits in this interview with Collider. She confirms that three months of production will begin in New York in November, and describes the intensive ballet training that's currently knackering her out, seven days a week for four hours a day.But she talks around rumours of hot jiggy-ness between her and Portman: "Something got out, but the script is so under lock and key that I can't imagine anyone really getting hold of it. But I can't really deny or confirm because I'm not allowed to talk about it."Helpful. But Kunis is allowed to say that Aronofsky has just completed a further rewrite on the script originally written by John McLaughlin and subsequently tinkered with by Mark Heyman,...

Empire Online reports that Mila Kunis (That '70s Show, Family Guy) has signed on for Black Swan, the next movie from director Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, The Fountain, Requiem for a Dream).
The "supernatural thriller" will star Natalie Portman as a veteran ballerina who develops a rivalry with Kunis' character, a dancer who may or may not be a product of the veteran's imagination. The movie is being produced by Phoenix Pictures and Aronfosky's own Protozoa Pictures.
John MacLaughlin wrote the original script, which was later revised by Protozoa's Mark Heyman. The movie will likely begin shooting this year, although there's no official word.
Aronofsky also planned a remake of Paul Verhoeven's 1987 sci-fi action hit RoboCop, but the future of that project is in doubt now that Black Swan is moving forward.

Darren Aronofsky’s next project could be the supernatural thriller Black Swan. If so, it might as well be named 'Requiem for a Robocop', at least as far as the director is concerned.
For months, Aronofsky has been mentioned in connection with both pictures, but deals for financing and distribution of Black Swan have fallen into place, Risky Biz Blog reports. Indie financier Groundswell Productions will be supplying some cash, and Fox Searchlight, which distributed Aronofsky’s The Wrestler, will be monitoring pre-production and may pitch in later.
Black Swan revolves around a dancer in the New York City ballet who is locked in a high-stakes competition with a rival. However, as a major showdown approaches, she starts to suspect this other dancer could be a supernatural apparition or a figment of her mind.

Darren Aronofsky's follow-up to the critically acclaimed and award winning film The Wrestler will be The Black Swan. Natalie Portman has signed on for one of the starring roles and shooting is being scheduled to begin in the next few months. Aronofsky first developed the supernatural thriller back in 2007 at Universal who decided to drop the project from their slate. With the success of The Wrestler,Aronofsky's bankable status has risen, giving him the ability to shop the studios who are all showing more interest in him and the project. The Black Swan, original penned by John McLaughlin has been revised by Mark Heyman who also wrote the script for Aronofsky's The Wrestler. The story involves a rivalry between two ballerinas as an important performance approaches - but one of the ballerinas is something different.

Natalie Portman is attached to star in the supernatural thriller "Black Swan" from director Darren Aronofsky ("The Wrestler").
The film is set in the world of New York City ballet about a ballerina (Portman) who's competing with a rival dancer. But is the rival a ghost or is Portman's character just having a mental breakdown?
Many folks who have read the script compares the "Black Swan" to "The Others." Hhhhmmmm, intriguing! John McLaughlin's original script has since been rewritten by Mark Heyman.
There's no studio attached to the project yet, but with Portman and Aronofsky on board, I heard many Hollywood players are now interested.

I can't tell you how happy I am to hear Darren Aronofsky has something more likely to get off the ground than that silly RoboCop remake as The Hollywood Reporter announces Natalie Portman is attached to star in Black Swan for the well-respected filmmaker. The film is described as a supernatural thriller set in the world of New York City ballet. I first reported on it back in January 2007 when it was set up at Universal Pictures with John McLaughlin penning the screenplay. Since that time Universal put the film in turnaround and Mark Heyman, a development exec at Aronofsky's Protozoa Pictures, has done a rewrite. Of course, the attachment of Portman to the project and I would expect Aronofsky's success with The Wrestler is sure to turn a few heads and perhaps get this film off the ground. The plot as detailed by THR says the film centers on...

Looks like Darren Aronofsky's next project, following his hot ticket The Wrestler, will be The Black Swan. Natalie Portman is already attached to star in the supernatural thriller, which could start shooting in the next few months.Aronofsky first developed the project at Universal in 2007, but the studio eventually dropped it. Post-Wrestler however, Aronofsky is riding a wave of kudos and bankability. The Black Swan, with John McLaughlin's script given a fresh pass by Aronofsky alumnus Mark Heyman, has been doing the studio rounds and is by all accounts getting some positive attention. The story involves a high-stakes rivalry between two ballerinas (one of whom is Portman) as a big performance approaches. Except that one of the ballerinas is either a spook or an hallucination. So, The Red Shoes meets The Sixth Sense? Sounds promising, but it does mean that Aronofsky's mooted Robocop reboot is now on the back-burner.

Natalie Portman is attached to star in Darren Aronofsky's thriller "Black Swan," a project that has been brought back to life after being stuck in studio turnarounds.
John McLaughlin wrote the original script, which Mark Heyman rewrote. The Hollywood Reporter describes the project as "a supernatural thriller set in the world of New York City ballet."
Portman would be starring as an experienced ballerina who's having a hard time dealing with a rival dancer. As the story develops, however, Portman's character is not exactly sure whether what she sees and experiences is real.
Sounds intriguing enough to me. Aronofsky recently helmed "The Wrestler," which quickly turned into my favorite film of 2008.
As for Portman, she recently boarded David Gordon Green's upcoming comedy “Your Highness." The charming actress has several projects coming up, including "New York, I Love You," Jim Sheridan's "Brothers" and "Love & Other Impossible Pursuits."...
