Helldivers 2 is one of the most popular live service titles online at the moment. This game is not unique, but it does everything perfectly. With this perfection and continuous support from developers, it has reached incredible heights of popularity. Then there’s Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, the latest game in the Final Fantasy remake trilogy. This game is popular thanks to its brand and fanbase.
Both of these games do what they do incredibly well. People who have purchased these games are no doubt very happy with what they got. Both of these games are incredibly successful and satisfying to play, but one of them comes out as a clean winner, despite having a huge flaw.

Xbox is missing out yet again with another game, and it’s not just a filler title but possibly the biggest game of the year: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The timed exclusivity deal that PlayStation has with the developer and publisher is a major blow to the rival company and is a clear indication that regardless of how powerful their hardware can be, it is futile without games to play with. Xbox Legend Parris Lilley weighs in on the negative impact of exclusivity on the gaming community in general and hopes it goes away for good.
PlayStation and Nintendo excel in the same aspect, which is their exclusive games. While Xbox may have a more powerful console, the quality of their first-party games is not comparable to that of their competitors, which is holding them back.

It’s not just video games that dominate the digital airwaves on platforms like Twitch — there’s a huge contingent of viewers who yearn for the old days of pen and paper, with tabletop RPGs making a huge splash virtually in the last few years. In fact, once-niche games like Dungeons & Dragons (which turns 50 this year) have taken on new life in the age of livestreaming, and more popular than ever.

A new episode of the Revisited video series has just arrived online, and in this one we’re looking back at a movie that was just released last year, writer/director Joe Begos‘s holiday horror film Christmas Bloody Christmas – which got an 8/10 review from our own JimmyO that you can read Here and is available to watch on the Shudder streaming service. To find out what we had to say about Christmas Bloody Christmas one year after its release, check out the video embedded above!
Christmas Bloody Christmas has the following synopsis: It’s Christmas Eve and fiery record store owner Tori Tooms just wants to get drunk and party, until the robotic Santa Claus at a nearby toy store goes haywire and makes her night more than a little complicated. Santa Claus begins a rampant killing spree through the neon-drenched snowscape against a backdrop of drugs, sex, metal and violence,...

Anyone who knows the voice acting world knows of Matthew Mercer. In anime, his work can be heard in the English dubs of mega-hits like Attack on Titan, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, One Piece, as well as some small show you may have heard of about dragon balls. In gaming, he’s ubiquitous, having appeared in series that include Resident Evil, Mortal Kombat, Sonic the Hedgehog, Overwatch, Fortnite, and even League of Legends.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a fantastic game and the measuring stick for all Zelda, and most open-world games, going forward. However, it is far from perfect. In the minds of some fans, that title has two major flaws: its atrocious weapon durability system and a distinct lack of dungeons. While Nintendo isn’t getting rid of the first problem in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, it might fix the second one.
Recently, Nintendo unveiled a new Tears of the Kingdom trailer that has a ton of people talking. Some of the most important takeaways include a “rehydrated Ganondorf” (who is voiced by Matt Mercer), but I’m more interested in what I believe is evidence that dungeons will return in Tears of the Kingdom.
For the sake of clarity, it should be noted that dungeons technically exist in Breath of the Wild.

Ganondorf’s voice has been the talk of the Legend of Zelda community since it was revealed a couple of Tears of the Kingdom trailers ago. At that time, fans had a pretty good idea who that voice actor was (or who they hoped it would be). Well, it turns out those fans were right all along.
Matt Mercer recently confirmed via Twitter that he is portraying Ganondorf in Tears of the Kingdom. Some of you may know Mercer from his hit D&d web series, Critical Role, but he also has extensive video game voice acting experience. Fallout 4, Persona 5, Overwatch, Destiny 2, Red Dead Redemption 2…Mercer’s roles aren’t always big, but there’s a very good chance you’ve heard his voice in one of your favorite recent games.
Mind you, many fans were convinced that they heard Mercer’s voice in that Tears of the Kingdom trailer as soon as Ganondorf spoke.

Now streaming on Screambox are several Dark Star Pictures classics, including the completely gonzo Bloody Disgusting collaboration Dementia: Part II, which delivers absurd gross-out humor and nonstop mayhem.
Here are some of the titles in addition to new Screambox arrivals Evil Little Things, Crispy’s Curse, Clownface, Clownado, and the previously released Killer Sofa and FeardotCom.

Also called “Children’s Night,” Achoura is a religious celebration. In Morocco, children splash water on each other and gather around a bonfire.
In the film, four friends reconnect when one of them, who disappeared 25 years ago, suddenly comes back into their lives. Together, they will have to confront the terrifying events of their youth and fight a monstrous creature born of a horrible legend.

Writer/director Joe Begos‘s holiday horror film Christmas Bloody Christmas – which got an 8/10 review from our own JimmyO that you can read Here – is now playing in theatres, and is also available to watch on the Shudder streaming service. While Violent Night is lighting the box office on fire, there’s another film featuring a Santa with a bit of bloodlust: Christmas Bloody Christmas. Thankfully this Santa is much less friendly and a lot more homicidal. I was fortunate enough to talk with the writer/director, Joe Begos, and pick his brain on this wonderful little title. He talks about how it started as a Silent Night, Deadly Night remake, only to evolve into a killer robot Santa film. This is probably my favorite conversation yet, so don’t miss it!

Back in 2014 first-time director Joe Begos exploded on the horror scene with Almost Human, an alien abduction movie drenched in 80s flair. Now he’s back with his second feature, Supernatural Forces aka The Mind’s Eye, another film that’s not afraid to wear its love of 80s horror on its sleeve. In this case referencing the work of David Cronenberg and Brian De Palma, and films like the Scanners franchise, Carrie and the classic telekinetic fear flick The Fury.
Confession time: I’m not the biggest fan of David Cronenberg’s Scanners. If not for exploding head scene and the final battle between Revok and Vale, the film would be a very dull futuristic thriller.

Make no mistake about it: this was a great year for horror fans. It was so good, in fact, that making a list of “favorites” is almost impossible because there’s just too much I want to talk about. The independent horror scene continues to crank out new classics and minor gems, but even studio horror was good this year: The Conjuring 2, Don’t Breathe, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Lights Out (not my bag, but a lot of people really enjoyed it), The Boy (not a lot of people’s bag, but I really enjoyed it), The Purge: Election Year, and so on. Even better? Pretty much every one of them was successful at the box office. As more and more horror moves are released with the limited release / VOD model, it’s nice to know that good movies still play to big audiences at the multiplex.

A Vcr board game threatens to steal your soul in a retro-style faux commercial that serves as an atmospheric promo video for Jackson Stewart's Beyond the Gates, co-starring Barbara Crampton, and we also have a look at Doug Kovacs' tarot card artwork for the film.

Intrigued, the boys pop in the tape, press play, and soon discover that, far from an ordinary game,...

You've got to watch this trailer for a fun looking throwback horror thriller called Beyond the Gates. I wasn't really sure what to make of this film when I first started watching the trailer, and then it got to a point where the main characters start playing a VHS-type board game in which they have to play to save their missing father's soul. That's the concept that grabbed my attention, and I love the whole VHS throwback vibe of it. It looks like it will be an entertaining flick! You can read Ben's review of it here. This is the synopsis:
The movie stars Graham Skipper (Almost Human) and Chase Williamson (John Dies at the End) as "two estranged brothers who reunite to sift through the contents of their missing dad’s VHS rental store. Among the inventory, they discover an interactive Vcr board game, which their father viewed just before he vanished.

Touted as “the best Scanners sequel we never got,” The Mind’s Eye is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on October 4th! The Blu-ray cover art has been revealed by Rlj Entertainment, and the Scanners comparison is uncanny. The Mind’s Eye follows Zack and Rachel, humans born with super abilities who are imprisoned by a psychotic doctor hell-bent on capitalizing on their powers.
“Zack Connors and Rachel Meadows were born with incredible psychokinetic capabilities. When word of their supernatural talents gets out, they find themselves the prisoners of Michael Slovak, a deranged doctor intent on harvesting their powers. After a daring escape, they are free from his sinister institution, but the corrupt doctor will stop at nothing to track them down so that he may continue to siphon their gifts for his own use.”

Writer/director Joe Begos’ second genre effort, The Mind’s Eye, feels like it could have been an early ’90s spin-off from the world of Scanners, with the up-and-coming filmmaker wearing his influences proudly on his sleeve. However, the difference between The Mind’s Eye and other recent projects that evoke feelings of grungy horror nostalgia, is that Begos never relies too heavily on our love of the movies of yesteryear, instead creating a film that can stand proudly on its own two feet.
That being said, there are aspects of The Mind’s Eye that are a bit rough around the edges, and one of the film’s actors almost derails the whole effort, but by and large, Begos’ latest feature is an ambitious throwback telekinetic tale that’s explosively fun and a solid step forward for Begos as a visual storyteller.

Whoa! Rlj Entertainment has released a crazy first trailer for Joe Begos' new body-horror / psychological thriller The Mind's Eye, which won Best Horror Director at Fantastic Fest last year. Graham Skipper plays Zack Connors, and Lauren Ashley Carter plays Rachel Meadows, two people born with "incredible psychokinetic capabilities" who are hunted by a doctor that wants to harvest their powers. The cast includes John Speredakos, Larry Fessenden, Noah Segan and Matt Mercer. The film has been described as an homage to the early films of David Cronenberg and Brian De Palma, and the poster has a quote calling it "the best Scanners sequel we never got." This definitely looks trippy and weird, and perfect for a late night. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Joe Begos' The Mind's Eye, direct from YouTube: Zack Connors and Rachel Meadows were born with incredible psychokinetic capabilities. Last week at the 2016 Los Angeles Film Festival, the supernatural throwback horror film Beyond the Gates premiered to a packed audience in Culver City, and hot on the heels of the successful debut, Daily Dead caught up with co-writer/director Jackson Stewart and co-star/producer Barbara Crampton to talk about their collaboration.
Also written by Stephen Scarlata (Jodorowsky’s Dune, Final Girl), Beyond the Gates stars Graham Skipper, Chase Williamson, Brea Grant, Justin Welborn, and Matt Mercer, and follows two estranged brothers (Skipper, Williamson) who return home to deal with their father’s video store business after he’s gone missing, only to uncover a mysterious Vcr game that may be directly linked to his disappearance.
Congrats on the film, guys, I had a lot of fun with it. Jackson, can you talk about where this idea came from and the process of working on the script with Stephen?

Filmmaker Mickey Keating, an indie-horror workhorse who churns out films quicker than SyFy and their Sharknado obsession, has even more updates out of South By Southwest on his new film, the simply-titled Psychopaths.
To this point, we know who the cast is comprised of, and it’s a venerable wealth of genre riches. As announced so far, actors include Mark Kassen, James Landry Hébert, Ivana Shein, Ashley Bell, Angela Trimbur, Jeremy Gardner, Helen Rogers, Graham Skipper, Matt Mercer, Sam Zimmerman, and Larry Fessenden. This is common knowledge, but what comes next is a little taste of the film’s body and soul.
While chatting with Keating about his SXSW Midnighter, Carnage Park, he let me know what to expect from Psychopaths:
…I wanted to make Psychopaths ultra-glamorous, and really colorful. All about composition and camera-movement as much as it’s about the characters. We looked to movies like Dressed To Kill,...

The new video from thrash metal legends Anthrax, Blood Eagle Wings, is so ghoulishly gory you’ll never believe yer eerie eyeballs (and you can see it below, my creeps!) So naturally I had to send out an invite via carrier crow for the clips die-rector Jack Bennett to join us for a lil’ convo in the Crypt o’ Xiii, and wadda ya know, here he is now!
Famous Monsters. Let’s get right down to brass tacks, Jack! How did the story for Blood Eagle Wings evolve? Jack Bennett. It just began with Scott Ian sending me the song and saying it was about how civilizations evolve throughout history on a foundation of violence. He only had two stipulations about the video; he didn’t want it to be performance-based, so no band playing the song, and there had to be someone actually blood eagle’d onscreen, which I had to look up.

Back in 2014 first-time director Joe Begos exploded on the horror scene with Almost Human, an alien abduction movie drenched in 80s flair. Now he’s back with his second feature, The Mind’s Eye, another film that’s not afraid to wear its love of 80s horror on its sleeve.
However...

One of the biggest surprises of 2013 for me was Contracted – Eric England’s tight little body-horror flick about a “Patient Zero” who hopes to destroy mankind by spreading a deadly Std. Weaker stomachs might have to watch most of the action through interwoven fingers, but as a contagion thriller, England’s style ensures that societal horrors come first and foremost.
Fast-forward two years, and we’re here to discuss Contracted: Phase II, a sequel that doesn’t see any involvement from England himself. First-time screenwriter Craig Walendziak and music video director Josh Forbes (you know, the guy who totally had an awful time at the MTV VMAs) take over as the creative team behind IFC Midnight’s hopeful successor, which provides the opportunity for a refreshing new take on England’s origin. Contracted is only the beginning of the end! Walendziak and Forbes had limitless possibilities for their world-continuing biological disaster,...

In the first film, audiences were introduced to a savage infection that caused the mental and physical breakdown of one of the infected and for Contracted: Phase II, the implications of the virus (and the mysterious man behind it all) are revealed to be something much bigger and more dangerous than anyone was ever prepared for.
Daily Dead recently chatted with Forbes about his involvement in Contracted: Phase II and discussed the pressures of directing a sequel, collaborating with the film’s stars and much more.
I'm curious, just because I noticed this was your first feature, how did you end up getting involved with Contracted: Phase II? Was this something that was brought to you?...
