There will be no third season for The Mysterious Benedict Society, the adventure series starring Tony Hale. The news, which comes more than a moth after Season 2 ended its run on the streamer, was revealed by co-creator/executive producer Phil Hay on Twitter.
“Dear friends- season 2 will mark the end of The Mysterious Benedict Society’s journey on Disney+. We love everyone who helped make this truly special and indeed life-affirming experience happen. No regrets- so proud of what we made!, Hay wrote. “The beauty of streaming is that the show lives on Disney+ and you can find it whenever you want to visit. Spoiler alert for how the story ends: the kids stay friends forever.”
Based on the bestselling YA book series by Trenton Lee Stewart, The Mysterious Benedict Society was originally greenlighted by Hulu and was one of the last series developed and sold by the late producer Jamie Tarses.

There are six novels in author Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy book series, plus a spin-off series called Bloodlines that also consists of six novels. Unfortunately, the live-action adaptations of this source material don’t have much luck. Back in 2014, the movie Vampire Academy (watch it Here) was released to theatres, and not many people really seemed to care to see it, or to like the movie if they did see it. According to Rotten Tomatoes, only 16 of the film’s reviews were positive (our own Chris Bumbray gave it a 2/10 review), and according to Box Office Mojo it made just 15.6 million dollars worldwide. Years down the line, the Peacock streaming service attempted to bring Vampire Academy to screens in the form of a TV series… and now Deadline reports that the Vampire Academy show has been cancelled after just one season.

Exclusive: A pair of YA drama series are coming to an end at Peacock.
The NBCU streamer has cancelled One Of Us Is Lying and Vampire Academy.
One Of Us Is Lying ran for two seasons, while Vampire Academy, which comes from Julie Plec, has ended after one.
Deadline understands that execs at Peacock were happy with both shows creatively but they just didn’t find the requisite audience to justify further seasons.
One Of Us Is Lying, which is based on Karen M. McManus’ novel, launched in October 2021 and was the first Peacock pilot to go to series. It was renewed for a second season earlier this year that aired in October 2022.
Vampire Academy was handed a straight-to-series order in May 2021 and premiered in September 2022.
Both shows come from Universal Studio Group.

Reliance Entertainment Studios, Risee Entertainment Acquired by Spac International Media Acquisition
Shibasish Sarkar’s New Jersey registered special purpose acquisition company (Spac) International Media Acquisition Corp. (Imac), of which he is chair and CEO, is acquiring India’s Reliance Entertainment Studios and Risee Entertainment.
A filing with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) on Oct. 22 reveals that the deal for the two companies is in the form of a total of 102 million in cash and 38 million in investment, spread over four tranches.
Sarkar was formerly CEO of Reliance Entertainment, which recently backed “Vikram Vedha,” starring Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan and “Goodbye,” featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Rashmika Mandanna, both of which underperformed at the box office. Coming up for Reliance Entertainment is “Cirkus,” starring Ranveer Singh.
Imac, set up to target the Indian media industry, raised more than 200 million through an IPO on the Nasdaq exchange in 2021. It also attracted a galaxy of Indian entertainment industry heavyweights as backers.

Exclusive: At long last, the opening-night film of the 2019 Sundance Film Festival has a distribution deal and a release date. Sony Pictures Classics acquired distribution rights in North America, France, India and several other Asian countries to After the Wedding, the Bart Freundlich-directed adaptation of Susanne Bier’s Oscar-nominated Danish film. Pic stars Michelle Williams, Julianne Moore, Billy Crudup and Abby Quinn. The film will be released in August.
After The Wedding got good reviews, with Oscar-bait performances for Williams and Moore. The filmmakers pondered several distribution offers, but Freundlich took his time finishing a film that was rushed to make Park City. Spc’s Michael Barker and Tom Bernard released Freundlich’s first film, The Myth of Fingerprints, and has done several with Moore including her Oscar-winning turn in Still Alice. They’ve reunited, and Spc plans an end-of-summer release leading into awards season.
