There aren’t many films around about 35-plus women taking off on an all-girls’ vacation .Producer Vinod Bachchan and director Kamal Pandey venture into this unexplored territory, with mixed results.
That Swara Bhaskar’s Shivangi, Meher Vij’s Mansi, Shikha Talsania’s Neha and Pooja Chopra’s Sakina are wretchedly unhappy and the great grumblers in the casino of life , is as clear as an over-sunlit daylight. One of them has to slog round-the-clock to keep her in-laws happy, that’s Swara slipping into her husband-fearing role with admirable confidence.
Another one , Shikha Talsania, hasn’t had sex with her husband for two years… a third, the token Muslim presence, is sick of her husband threatening to do a triple talaaq on her, although a politically savvy elder in the vicinity points out,...

Leading Indian producer Subhash Ghai has joined forces with Rome-based Navala Prods. to launch biographical drama “Osho: Lord of the Full Moon.” The film will be structured as a large-budget India-Italy co-venture.
The film’s focus is the controversial Indian mystic Osho, formerly known as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, who died in 1990. He proposed alternative rules for living and self-improvement. His 600 books remain hugely popular best-sellers, and he was recently the subject of six-part Netflix Original documentary series “Wild, Wild Country.”
The narrative film will contain action from the time that India gained independence from British colonial rule, as well as more poetic flashbacks. Beside Osho, the other main character of the film is a female TV journalist who puts her career at stake trying to discover if the guru is a con man, or an enlightened genius. Answering this question changes her life.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's much talked about comeback vehicle Jazbaa, which did not meet trade expectations, seems to have triggered a controversy even after months of its release. A few technicians who worked for the film have now alleged that they haven't received their dues for the film even now. It has been learnt that the Director of Photography Sameer Arya, screenplay writer Robin Bhatt, choreographer Ahmed Khan and dialogue writer Kamlesh Pandey are the ones who haven't received their dues for the film and it is being said that the total amount to be paid is approximately Rs. 20 lakhs. Kamlesh Pandey added that they indeed haven't received their dues and when they spoke to Gupta, the director mentioned that they are yet to get money from Essel Vision (who are the co-producers of Jazbaa). However, when Pandey asked Essel Vision on the same, they claimed that they have already...

On January 26, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's motivational classic Rang De Basanti (Rdb) completes 10 years. To commemorate the occasion the film's unassuming director has many plans. Rakeysh divulges, "The entire Rdb team meets on January 25 at the PVR Juhu. Ajay Bijli of PVR is flying in from Delhi to join us. PVR had just started when we released Rdb. It was a big moment for film distribution and marketing and we were proud to be part of it." For the momentous occasion Rakeysh and the Rdb team would be releasing the screenplay of the film in a book form, as well as a documentary on the making of Rdb entitled Ru-ba-ru. Explains Rakeysh, "The screenplay for Rdb was done by Kamlesh Pandey, Rensil d'Silva and me. The book puts together the screenplay. It also contains interviews with Aamir Khan, A R Rahman and 50-70 rare pictures. As for the documentary, Ru-ba-ru captures the film's journey.

In a film that works both on a physical and emotional level, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan returns as a working mother, working to balance career with domestic responsibilities. When hotshot lawyer Anuradha Varma’s only daughter is kidnapped during school sports day. Anuradha is stricken with guilt for not spending more time with her child. It’s a prevalent dilemma for working women, and Sanjay Gupta who has so far focused attention on sexy item bombs and sexier guns opens up a debate on the travails of the working woman with flair and gusto, never allowing the thrills to override the somber underbelly of the plot.
Gupta brings flamboyance flourish and a restless energy to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s agile yet feminine role of a mother desperately seeking her daughter. In some ways I was reminded of Anurag Kashyap’s Ugly where a daughter is kidnapped. Kashyap’s film was much darker and ominous.

The court battle between Sanjay Gupta on one side and Vinod Bachchan, Iftpc & Fwice on the other culminated yesterday with the High Court ordering Sanjay Gupta to deposit Rupees Twenty Lakhs in the Court within a specified time period. The Court also stated that in case of default by him in the payments to the Court, the non-co-operation directive instituted against Sanjay Gupta by the Jdsc of the Fwice & Iftpc would once again become operational and the amount deposited till then would be forfeit. The court granted Vinod Bacchan a certain time period to institute legal proceedings to recover the money. It may be recalled that various accusations had been made on Twitter and in the press by the Iftda President Ashok Pandit against the Fwice President Kamlesh Pandey & Gen. Secretary Dilip Pithva casting aspersions on their intent and character. There were also reports in the press of affiliates opposing the Fwice on this matter.

However, the present day status is that, Anupam Kher is no longer doing the film. The film's co-producer Nitin Keni reasoned that there were lots of shuffling of dates from their end. When Bollywood Hungama spoke to Anupam Kher, he said, "We were not able to match up with each other's' availability of dates. But, I am hopeful of working with Sanjay Gupta in the near future." Meanwhile, news is that Jackie Shroff has now been roped in for the role, which Anupam Kher was supposed to do. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is going full throttle for her comeback vehicle Jazbaa! Recently, the news was widespread that the actress, who is essaying the role of a fiery lawyer, will be mouthing some hard-hitting and startling dialogues in the film.
Ash, who has mostly played soft and elegant roles, for the first time will be seen in a tough avatar. In fact, if we look at the history of Indian Cinema, we haven't quite seen actresses uttering harsh lines. Very few Bollywood actresses (like Vidya Balan in The Dirty Picture) must have attempted to mouth crisp lines. Essentially, it has been the prerogative of actors like Salman Khan, who always impressed with their sharp yet striking punchlines.

On Wednesday, Karan Johar held an emergency meeting in his office with all the directors and staff of his production house Dharma Productions to decide a plan of action regarding the dust that's been kicked up by the Aib's 'Roast' where Johar played 'Horny Host'. According to a close friend of Karan Johar, the filmmaker is badly shaken by all the controversy that has flared up. On Tuesday, The Federation Of Western India Cinema Employees (Fwice) which speaks for 22 Bollywood-related organizations, issued a strongly-worded condemnation of the 'Roast'. The letter describes the Roast as "a travesty of basic human decency in the name of entertainment and a blot on the culture and very tradition that we need to safeguard." “What you seek is also seeking you.”
And I have been seeking stories. I guess they are also searching for me.
These were exactly my thoughts when I got a call from the Children’s Film Society of India (Cfsi) to attend Green Screen Script Lab 2012.
“Would you like to attend Green-Screen script lab for ten days?”
“Ten days?”
Ten days is a huge time away from work/life in Mumbai. I needed time to answer this question. I knew that I would meet a lot of new stories here.
Within an hour, I had decided to come, for it has been a dream to tell a story, to make a feature film. A dream I have not pursued enough. A dream of which I have talked with passion, but never had enough courage to actually go for it. A dream which has kept me awake each time I saw...

“My grandma never attended a script writing course. But she was an engaging story teller,” Kamlesh Pandey said enthusiastically. The 5th day at Green Screen Lab in Bhubaneshwar has a new chirpy guest who has written some of the most gripping scripts of the Indian cinema like Tezaab and Rang De Basanti. We were all thrilled and enlightened with his anecdotes and views on script writing and Bollywood screenplays. His insights provoked us to look at our scripts with a new lens. The hurdles in crossing an ocean of imagination to reach the shore with a superior screenplay, never seems to end.

New Delhi, March 5: The girl-meets-boy story is passe on the Indian small screen. The experimentation with mature themes like remarriage and middle age love is evident in shows like "Punar Vivah", "Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha" and "Bade Acche Lagte Hain".
Kamlesh Pandey, who wrote "Kuch Toh Log Kahenge", inspired by the Pakistani play "Dhoop Kinare", says, "On the small screen you have the freedom to be experimental, intelligent and different."
"I feel now some channel heads are ready to treat their audiences to different content. As we say in advertising, 'the audience is not a moron, she is your wife.' You cannot take.

Mumbai, Oct 4: He has been plotting and planning scripts for films and television for two decades and is still loving it. But veteran writer Kamlesh Pandey, who has rewritten Pakistan's cult soap 'Dhoop Kinare' as 'Kuch Toh Log Kahenge' for Indian audiences, says the small screen is the right medium for those looking for experimentation.
Pandey feels TV allows a writer to play with his characters for a long time, unlike in films.
'Television is an excellent medium for any writer to perform. He can play with his characters, make them die, love, fight....anything. He does in films as well, but the time space is.

Mumbai, Sep 15: Pakistani TV series 'Dhoop Kinare' was the rage on both sides of the border during the 1980s and Sony is trying to cash in on the popularity of the hospital rommance with its new show 'Kuch Toh Log Kahenge', an adaptation of the Rahat Kazmi and Marina Khan starrer.

Gone are the days when the script was the weakest link of a movie and multi-starrers were a sureshot way to success. As the mindsets of audiences change, Bollywood scriptwriters foresee a dignified growth for their kind though problems persist.'Now there is a need for good scripts because people have realised that films don't work only on stars. There is awareness, but that is not enough,' Kamlesh Pandey, who scripted 'Rang De Basanti' and 'Delhi-6', told us.In recent times, Vishal Bharadwaj, Ashutosh Gowariker, Karan Johar, Madhur Bhandarkar and Jaideep Sahni have shown the power of the pen by writing some of the best movies. The point to note is that most of them have directed their own scripts.Filmmaker Raj Kumar Gupta said: 'Scripts and scriptwriters are getting recognition more than ever. It is being considered the most important element in filmmaking now.

If nothing succeeds like success, then nothing fails like failure in showbiz either. Rensil D'Silva, who wrote Rang De Basanti, has found out the hard way that the price of failure is enforced exile. His name has been deleted from the credits of Raavan. While the writer directed his debut film Kurbaan for Karan Johar, Rensil D'Silva was the toast of tinsel town. Much in-demand as a writer as well as a director, he was busy scripting Mani Ratnam's Raavan and simultaneously directing Kurbaan. After Kurbaan bombed, Rensil D'Silva finds that his credit has diminished in the industry. The screenplay has been credited to Mani Ratnam and his wife Suhasini, completely obliterating Rensil's contribution to the writing.Rensil D'Silva, while admitting that he was "at one time" scripting Raavan, argued feebly, "No one took my credit away. I had to stop writing Raavan and start shooting Kurbaan.

As Ficci Frames 2010 drew to a close today, two issues remained predominant over the three days of the Global Conference on the Business of Entertainment. Looking at both of them, the conference can be said to be skewed in favour of cinema sidelining its other siblings like television in the arena of entertainment. All the same, two really important issues concerning India cinema by and large i.e piracy and the state of script writers in India were addressed in reasonable depth.
Yash Chopra, the Chairman of Ficci Entertainment Committee had urged the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ashok Chavan to take strict measures against piracy and enforce the Goonda Law in state in his inaugural speech on the very first day. The effect of it resonated till the last day when Ambika Soni, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting assured the full support of her ministry in combating piracy in...

The promos of Well Done Abba have the feel-good factor and are reminiscent of your last film, Welcome To Sajjanpur. The only thing common to both films are that they are comedies. Well Done Abba is a political satire on well-meaning social legislations to help those below the poverty line. Many of these schemes turn out to be scams. Isn’t it an adapatation of a novel? It’s been adapted from two short stories, Narsaiyyan Ki Bavdi and Phulwa Ka Pul. I’ve also taken elements from Jayant Kriplani’s script. In the past, we’ve seen writers haggle for credit, Kamlesh Pandey and ...

They are of the opinion that there is a dearth of good scriptwriters in India as a result of which the films are not getting the success that they get in other countries.
