Twilight Time, bless ’em, hands us another treat to go with their 3-D discs of Man in the Dark, Miss Sadie Thompson and Harlock Space Pirate 3-D — and this time it’s a fun bit of 1950s horror — with a hot pair of short subject extras.
There have been plenty of theories as to why horror films became scarce after WW2; it’s as if the U.S. film industry took a ten-year break from the supernatural, and partly...

True-Crime Terror! Richard Fleischer and Edward Anhalt’s riveting serial killer makes extensive use of split- and multi-screen imagery. One of the most infamous murder sprees on record fudges some facts but still impresses as a novel approach.

Rita Hayworth in 3-D, in a hot story that was acceptable for 1925 and 1932, but too racy for repressed 1953. On a tropical island, a prostitute cabaret singer battles a fiery preacher missionary inspector for her freedom. Hayworth is dynamite, and it takes all of her talent to keep the show afloat, with so much interference from the equally repressed censors. *a screener of this film was provided by Mti Home Video.
Director: Steven Peros.
Writers: Steven Peros and David M. Flynn.
A necrophiliac doctor, a sexually inappropriate physician, a murdering ghost - how could this film go wrong? The Undying seems to have been put together for a television debut. Instead, this film finds itself being released on DVD through Mti Home Video December 13th. Understandably, this is director Steven Peros' first film, but the chills of the horror genre are left behind in favour of a more supernatural and romantic approach to filmmaking. The result is a pretty tepid thriller.
Robin Weigert ("Deadwood") plays Barbara a night doctor who has taken residence in a new locale. Recently, her fiance died by idiocy when he backed up into speeding traffic while taking a picture. Now, she laments his demise but she has something to keep her distracted. A Civil...

The Undying is a supernatural thriller created by first time feature filmmaker Steven Peros ("The Lot"). This is a haunted house styled film that incorporates other themes of romance and possession as character Barbara (Robin Weigert) falls for a Civil War ghost. Can she make him mortal? Surely only gods can do this, but Barbara's passion ensures she will at least try.
The Undying has received some positive early reviews and Peros freely admits being influenced by other horror films including The Changeling and Robert Wise's The Haunting (IMDb). This title also has a release on DVD December 12th through Mti Home Video and those interested in an intriguing storyline of death, possession and rebirth can preview the film's trailer below.

Lonely female doctor falls in love with the Civil War ghost haunting her new home. Lonely female doctor schemes for them to be together by having his spirit inhabit the body of a coma patient. Possessed coma patient wakes up; also turns out to be a serial killer. Bad things happen. A ghost story in the classical sense, obviously.
That’s the basic gist of The Undying, a supernatural chiller of ghostly romance gone horribly wrong, that Mti Home Video will be releasing to DVD on December 13th.
Robin Weigart (Calamity Jane on “Deadwood”), Anthony Carrigan (“Parenthood”), Jay O. Sanders (Green Lantern), and Wes Studi (Avatar) star in this Steven Peros film he co-wrote with David M. Flynn.
Seduced by the ghost of a Civil War soldier, whose spirit dwells in her new home, Dr. Barbara Haughton contrives to have him live again in the body of a man who died in her hospital.

"The finest Western you'll see this year is set in aristocratic 16th-century France, in the heat of Counter-Reformation," declares Nick Pinkerton. Segueing into his interview with Bertrand Tavernier, Aaron Hillis, also in the Voice, sums up the gist of The Princess of Montpensier: "Adapted from Madame de la Fayette's classic novel, the film concerns a nubile, wealthy heiress (Mélanie Thierry) who loves a rugged hothead from the wrong clan (Gaspard Ulliel), but is forced by her father to marry another prince (Grégoire Leprince-Ringuet), leaving her to dwell on the too-modern desire for free will — defiantly bucking against the rigid traditions of her breed." Back to Pinkerton: "The setting always serves the performers rather than vice versa — though the film is also greatly enhanced by the costuming, the rugged French countryside photographed in outdoor-adventure CinemaScope, and Philippe Sarde's baroque-tribal score, its martial and romantic poles matching a tale of...

The calm before the blockbuster storm. This weekend's offerings are mostly limited releases from notable film festivals. For starters we have the the critically-acclaimed Amardillo, A Screaming Man and The Princess of Montpensier making their post-Cannes debuts. And if that isn't your cup of tea there's always The Imperialists Are Still Alive! and The Double Hour, as choices because other than that, I wouldn’t put much stock in studio fares like Wes Craven’s reboot-rehash Scream 4. U.S Indie Atlas Shrugged: Part I - Paul Johansson - Rocky Mountain Pics. This questionable adaptation of Ayn Rand’s free-market manifesto is short on acting, story and production value. With computer-generated bullet trains and dystopian cityscapes, more suited for the syfy channel, this film from first-time producer John Agialoro was dead on arrival. Wynant, Pippa Scott People often escape to Hollywood to start their lives anew...and once upon a time a young woman (Sybil Temtchine) wearing a green dress takes that quest quite literally. The woman mysteriously awakens, sprawled across the famed footprints and handprints in front of the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. We never learn her name (she seems to have amnesia) and she rarely speaks, but we are given the opportunity to listen to her internal dialogue. A series of "quirky Hollywood types" try to "help" the dazed and confused woman, including a vagrant (Jeris Lee Poindexter) and a man wearing a bolo tie, Victor (H.M. Wynant). Is she Mira Sorvino? Is she Wonder Woman? Is she Daisy? Why is William Wyler's 1949 film The Heiress important to her? And who the hell is "fountain boy"? With Footprints,...

If someone were to awaken sprawled across the ground along Hollywood Boulevard with no recollection of how she arrived there, it seems improbable that she would also be well-dressed and meticulously manicured. Somehow, the amnesia-ridden heroine of Steven Peros’ film “Footprints” wakes up in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre without a wrinkle in her bright green dress and not a hair out of place. While meant to add to her enigma, it is also the sort of borderline-ridiculous narrative device that makes “Footprints” oscillate from oddly creative to just plain odd.
The story of this woman’s day in Hollywood and her mission to discover her identity is just an excuse for an homage to the Hollywood of yesteryear, a subtle mystery meant to replicate the era it celebrates. Despite an honest effort, “Footprints” cannot capture...
