George A. Romero's "Night of the Living Dead" was the blueprint for the zombie-horror genre we know and love today. Despite never using the word "zombie" in his 1968 directorial debut, Romero brought the shuffling undead to life while creating a tense atmosphere of dread that permeates throughout. Interestingly, all the human survivors in the film display spineless passivity save for one: Ben (Duane Jones), the only level-headed individual among the group, puts the human instinct for survival to good use in an intensely nightmarish situation. So, when Ben, the only Black person in the film, is mistakenly shot down by police officers while actual brain-eating zombies ravage the land, the ending feels like a punch in the gut, even 55 years later.
When Romero was looking to cast the core group in the narrative, he understood the importance of casting the right person for Ben, as this character formed the crux of the central conflict.

The Yellowjackets will probably be literally hungry for quite some time, but the people who play them may not be for much longer, figuratively. After being overlooked twice in a row, “Yellowjackets” is predicted to cook up its first drama ensemble nomination at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, according to our combined odds, in which it currently sits in fifth place.
Unlike the last two times it was eligible — for the first seven episodes of its debut season at the 2022 awards and for the final three at the 2023 awards — the Showtime hit is now competing for a full season as all nine episodes of its second installment aired during the current calendar year. Not just that, as a two-time Best Drama Series Emmy nominee, it’s now an established awards player than could benefit from SAG-AFTRA voters trying to play catch-up, as they have done with many buzzy titles in...

Christina Ricci is living her best life on vacation with her partner, celebrity hairdresser Mark Hampton. The Yellowjackets star recently posted loved-up photos of the couple on lounging in Hawaii.
This vacation comes after drama with her ex, James Heerdegen.
Last month, she went on a trip to New York City with her oldest son, Freddie, whom she shares with Heerdegen.
According to Ricci, Heerdegen initially gave her permission to take their son on the trip but then later changed his mind. In response, Ricci requested an emergency court hearing with her ex.
During the hearing, Ricci stated, “Jimmy’s refusal to agree causes me concern because he clearly was being vindictive and retaliatory when he initially refused my request to travel for the additional dates. As recently as Monday, June 19, 2023, Jimmy was agreeable to allowing Freddie to travel with me, but apparently, he still wants to wait until our hearing to discuss it.

Jenna Ortega is sharing some major insight into "Wednesday" season two. "It's still coming together, but we've decided we want to lean into the horror more," Ortega, who stars as Wednesday, told Elle Fanning in an article published by Variety on June 7 as part of their "Actors on Actors" series. "We're ditching any romantic love interest, which is really great. We're going to get bolder, more dark."
Netflix announced the show had officially been renewed on Jan. 6, with a short teaser featuring footage of Ortega alongside scenes from the show and clips of fan events. The video also used Lady Gaga's "Bloody Mary" as its soundtrack, a song that became associated with the show on TikTok. "The global phenomenon will return for season two," Netflix said in the clip.

During this week’s episode of WrapWomen’s “UnWrapped” Podcast, “Yellowjackets” star Christina Ricci opened up about the “abuse” and “childhood trauma” she faced growing up and how she continues to navigate her mental health as an adult.
The actress, who got her big break playing Wednesday Addams in the 1991 film “The Addams Family” said that mental health wasn’t a big topic back then. Ricci has said she suffered from anorexia as a teenager and was sexually assaulted as a child. “There was no discussion at that time about trauma, and about recovering from those things, about Ptsd,” she said. As a result, she ended up “acting out and coping in ways that weren’t good.”
Nowadays, the mother of two still finds it hard to find time to focus on her mental health. “I have a baby and an 8-year-old. So my days are really busy,” Ricci said.

“Bad Sisters” had a terrific night at the BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday 14, May. After winning Best Titles and Graphic Identity at the BAFTA Craft Awards, the Apple TV+ show took home Best Drama Series and Best Supporting Actress for Anne-Marie Duff on the Sunday just gone, bringing its awards total up to three BAFTAs.
The show follows the five Garvey sisters, led by Sharon Horgan‘s Eva, who all try to kill the abusive husband (Claes Bang‘s Jp) of Duff’s Grace. Meanwhile, two insurance agents (Brian Gleeson‘s Thomas and Daryl McCormack‘s Matthew) attempt to prove the sisters’ involvement in Jp’s death. As Grace, Duff gets the plumb role of the show — combining both ferocity and vulnerability to give a performance that ultimately becomes the heart of the series.

Christina Ricci has been acting since she was a child, and she doesn’t really know life any other way. Making her on-screen debut at only 9 years old, The Addams Family star has had a variety of roles and has more than proven that she can transform into any character. The Emmy nominee recently opened up about starting her Hollywood career at such a young age, saying how she enjoyed “escaping” into acting as a child. As it turns out, Ricci “didn’t like being a kid.”
Christina Ricci began acting as a child
New York Magazine reports Ricci got her start following a “spectacular grade-school freak-out.” Her school was holding auditions for The Twelve Days of Christmas, and the actor was in danger of losing the lead part to someone else. She devised a plan, taunting the other kid so much that he punched her, and when she told on him,...

This post contains spoilers for "Yellowjackets" season 2.
"Yellowjackets," named for the girls' soccer team that get stranded in the wilderness after a plane crash, follows its characters in both adolescence and adulthood with alternating timelines. This enables the show to contrast how they've changed (or haven't). When we meet the original four leads in the series pilot, they mostly seem to have moved on from what happened.
Taissa (Tawny Cypress) is the only one who is "successful" in a stereotypical sense — a well-to-do lawyer now running for New Jersey State Senate. But Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) is a bored housewife and Misty (Christina Ricci) has a stable job as an elder care nurse; there are definitely worse fates considering what they went through. The only exception is Natalie Scatorccio. Played in conjunction by Sophie Thatcher in 1996 and Juliette Lewis in 2021, we first meet her in rehab and it's soon revealed this...

Throughout the first episodes of “Yellowjackets” Season 2, the thriller’s younger cast members are emerging as series MVPs. Increasingly harsh living conditions and emotional fallout from Jackie’s (Ella Purnell) death have provided them with the show’s most complex and devastating material yet. Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Courtney Eaton and Sophie Thatcher’s standout performances deserve as much Emmy consideration as those of their adult counterparts.
As Shauna, seven months pregnant and grieving her best friend under less-than-ideal circumstances, Nélisse is giving a darker, more psychologically challenging performance than she had in Season 1. Clayton Davis reported in Variety that, despite having been campaigned alongside her ‘96-timeline co-stars as a supporting actor for the show’s maiden Emmy bid, Nélisse will this time around compete for a lead slot. The shift doesn’t come as a surprise, given how many Season 2 write-ups have singled out the rising star. While...

If Misty is as intelligent and clever as Sherlock Holmes, she needs her own Moriarity. This is how the new character Walter presents himself in "Digestif," the third episode of "Yellowjackets" season 2 — although we still have much to learn about him. Elijah Wood made a stealthy appearance as Walter in the first episode, narrating a post as PuttingTheSickInForensics on the online citizen detective community that Misty frequents. PuttingTheSickInForensics shatters Misty's confidence that the murder cover-up of Adam Martin went smoothly when he asks citizen detective users to consider Adam's "mystery lady friend."
During Misty's pursuit of Natalie, Walter promises to help her with the motel's old security camera if she stops downvoting his comments about Adam's disappearance. "Yellowjackets" makes it clear in the second episode that Walter has just as great investigative skills as Misty. He tracks Misty down at the nursing...

The latest Warner Animated DC feature film adapts the 2000-2001 Elseworlds miniseries Batman: The Doom that Came to Gotham. The fun of the Elseworlds comics, and soon the live-action versions under the new artistic regime, is taking the familiar and imagining them in other times and other places. Here, we do back to the early 20th century and overlay it with a dose of Loftcraftian horror.

At the age of nine, Christina Ricci made her breakout debut in the 1990 film “Mermaids” alongside Cher and Winona Rider. Now, at 43 years old, Ricci has over three decades of credits to her name and could be on the brink of a historic double Emmy nomination for her roles as Misty in the Showtime drama “Yellowjackets” and Marilyn Thornhill in the Netflix comedy “Wednesday.” Bids for both would make her the second woman in history to be nominated for Best Drama Supporting Actress and Best Comedy Supporting Actress in the same year. The first was Nancy Walker in 1975, nominated for “McMillan & Wife” and “Rhoda.”
Ricci’s role in “Yellowjackets” earned the actress her second Emmy nomination last year. She was first nominated in 2006 for a guest-starring role in “Grey’s Anatomy.” During a recent appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Ricci revealed she was “terrified” to return to...
