“Goze” is a term that stands for a woman, usually, but not necessarily blind, who works as a travelling musician and singer. The tradition dates at least back to the Edo period, and it was present in the rural areas from Kyushu island in the south to Yamagata and Fukushima prefectures in the north. It was active well into the second half of the 20th century when the last professional goze Haru Kobayashi retired from her work in 1978. “The Last Goze”, directed by Masaharu Takizawa, is a biopic about her, and too bad it is not a good movie.
“The Last Goze” is screening at Toronto Japanese Film Festival
The movie follows her from her birth, through her childhood and goze training and apprenticeships with different mentors, in the early adulthood and the beginning of her career as an independent artist, guild member and group leader. It starts with a warning printed on the screen,...

The Levi jacket worn by Ken Takakura as Ken Tanaka in Japan set thriller The Yakuza is not Japanese denim. It was not made in Japan but is nonetheless representative of a time when denim as symbol of burgeoning Americana in the East would take off into the stratosphere, and has remained so ever since.
Although Levi products were imported into Japan before the 1970s (Levi International was created in 1965), it was not until mid-decade that a Tokyo office was established. This was in response to growing popularity of all things American in Japan, especially denim and especially Levi. There was no single factor as to why, though most likely American G.I.’s being stationed in Japan after World War II played a part. Their civilian clothing was predominantly denim and khaki based. This caught the eye of Japan’s, until then, heavily regimented youth. Moreover when the G.I.’s...

Everybody Dies the childstyled book by Ken Tanaka and David Ury indeed does appear to be a book actually for children at first glance. The title is a bit morbid sure but it could be a feelgood book about coping with the loss of Grandma or something. But no. Everybody Dies is not for children and doesnt pretend to be It is advertised as A Childrens Book for GrownUps.

For a show often comprised of caricatures instead of characters, Glee sure knows how to flip the tone from silly to serious with the snap of a finger.
Or the shooting of a gun as the case was on tonight's return episode, "Shooting Star."
In the shadow of real-world issues with guns and violence and school shootings, television shows have to tread carefully to pay respect to the severity of the issues while also staying true to their characters and storytelling. In that regard, tonight's episode of Glee was spot-on. Bravo, Glee.
I came into tonight's episode with baited breath. From the synopsis, I guessed that the main story would feature a school shooting. As a former high school teacher, I was nervous to see which direction the writers would take. Would they employ a bullying storyline? Tackle another suicide attempt? Would there be a crazed gunman on the loose...

Warning: If you haven’t seen tonight’s episode of Glee, you might want to stop reading now. Everyone else, carry on.
Okay, deep breaths. Has everyone recovered enough from tonight’s gut-wrenching Glee that we can get around to the business of discussing it?
For starters, I know a lot of folks will probably ask if it was “too soon” for Ryan Murphy & Co. to tackle a story arc about gunshots ringing out in the hallways of McKinley High a mere four months after the real and unspeakable shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary. I understand that question, but the...

“Forgotten/Missing.” That is what Nalowale means in Hawaiian. It also happens to be the title of this episode of the series, which revolves around the teenage daughter of a U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines being found dead off the coast of Waikiki and the other daughter kidnapped. The Governor now tasks Five-0 in finding the abducted sister.
I promise not to go on my usual rant of why this show is the most fun on television right now, but will say this episode is no different in that respect. One of the best scenes in the episode deals with McGarrett and Danno, who are interrogating a douche bag, club prowler after seeing him “rufi” a drink to drug a girl and smuggle her to his partners. In the scene, Danno tells the guy to drink the drink or he’ll break his neck, while McGarrett shoves it down his throat.

After a summer full of cosmetic and reproductive surgery, McKinley High's New Directions is back for a new school year.
But first, Glee's own scandal blogger, Jacob Ben Israel (Josh Sussman), starts the new season out with one simple question asked on behalf of the multi-media empire that is his blog: "What did you do over your big gay summer?"
The first person he asks is the object of his extremely creepy affections, Rachel. And I couldn't really listen to her answer because I was so horrified by the big pillowy explosion of lips through which she was speaking. Not even her long, thick false eyelashes and broad swipes of blush could distract me from them. Especially the upper lip. It looked like a shapeless slug under her nose. Who did this to you, Lea?
Anyway, there was nothing gay about Rachel's summer, except, of course, her two gay dads.

The "Glee" Season 2 premiere is almost here, but until Sept. 21, Zap2it has more details on what to expect when you tune in.
Let's just say that for "Glee" fans, the episode titled "Auditions" is a treat and addresses many of the concerns that were brought up for the second half of the freshman season. That's not to say that everything's perfect at McKinley High, because what would be the fun of that?
Zap2it had the opportunity to screen the first episode back at the "Glee" premiere party Tuesday night (Sept. 7), and we're here to share some of the goodies with you.
Spoiler alert: We won't try to ruin the biggest surprises, but a couple plot points will be addressed, so if you want the full, unsullied experience, don't read any further.
What you'll see:
Jacob Ben Israel (Josh Sussman) gets a good chunk of screen time, and he's hilarious.

You might not know Patrick Gallagher by name, but any loyal TV viewer will know his face.

Compare that experience to your role as Ken Tanaka on Glee.

You've been hearing about it for a while – the Glee Madonna episode. Today Fox released the next three episodes to the press and I've done nothing this evening but immerse myself in Glee. The Madonna episode which will be airing on April 20 is Amazing! There's more awesome dancing in one episode than we've seen all year so far and this is a very good thing. Furthermore, the second half of season 1 seems to contain ten times more Brittany and Santana and those two are the funniest characters on this show. Every word out of Brittany's mouth makes me giggle like a 14 year old girl.
Fox has released a few promo photos and a synopsis for the April 20 episode, which you can view below.
You can also view a two and a half minute promo for the new episodes we previously posted.

Last week I posted a collection of five promos for the return of Glee. New episodes are starting back up again next week, on April 13. I also posted promo photos for the upcoming April 13 episode. Now we have a two and a half minute promo for you below. It shows some footage from the previous five promos but there is also a whole lot of new scenes that we haven't seen before, including the lead singer of Vocal Adrenaline (get past the first 30 seconds or so and you'll see a lot of new scenes). Enjoy!

Idina Menzel (who bears a striking resemblance to Lea Michele) will be making an appearance on the new Glee episode airing on April 13 as the coach for Vocal Adrenaline. A few days ago I posted five promos for the return to Glee on April 13 and now Fox has released promo photos, which you can scroll through below.

Since it went on hiatus at the end of 2009, every Tuesday that passes without a new episode of Glee means that another tiny piece of my karaoke-loving soul dies. But fear not, because all new episodes finally, finally, Finally return on April 13. And we're in store for many, many treats. Tons of new guest stars are expected, including Broadway vets India Menzel and Jonathan Groff, as well as Neil Patrick Harris and Molly Shannon. Then there's the Madonna-centric episode (a preview of which is featured in the promos below), guest director Joss Whedon, a whole lot of new songs to rock out to on your iPods and, most importantly, the return of Jane Lynch's Sue and her incredibly one-liners.
I've collected 5 promos for the new episodes for you below. The first one, featuring Lea Michele singing "Like a Prayer" is my absolute favorite, but they're all good. And...

The morning the Screen Actors Guild announced the nominees for the 16th annual SAG awards. The actual ceremony will be held Saturday, January 23rd. There are a lot of gay-faves on the list of nominees.
For starters, Colin Firth picked up a nomination for A Single Man,and Sigourney Weaver is in the running for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries thanks to Prayers for Bobby.
Freshmen series Glee and Modern Family are competing against each other for Beest TV Comedy Ensemble.
And surprisingly (at least for me) the cast of True Blood is up for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.
You can check out the full list of nominess after the break!

Fox has released a sneak peek for the December 9th Fall finale of Glee. It looks like the cat is out of the bag about Puck and Quinn and Mercedes and the others try to get Rachel to keep her mouth shut. Check out the sneak peek below (hopefully we'll get more closer to the date of the episode) and then check out the promo and photos we previously posted.

I'd like it to be known that Glee brings families together. At a family birthday party last weekend, my uncle and I danced to the Glee version of "Bust a Move". Ok, my uncle's no Matthew Morrison, but he was still bustin' it, even if he is nearly 50.
The Glee Fall finale will be airing on December 9th and it's the moment we've all been waiting for: Sectionals. Will the Glee Club win? Or will they pull a Mystery, Alaska and lose, but learn an important lesson about pride? (uh….sorry for spoiling Mystery, Alaska for everyone, but since it's so old I figured it was Ok). Most importantly, what song will they perform? Check out the photos we posted previously and check out the promo below.

Glee's all new tonight and we better savor it while we can, because after the December 9th episode, we're going to have to wait until April for a new one. I've already posted photos for tonight's episode, but now Fox has released two sneak peeks.

Meanwhile, Quinn makes it her mission to be in the Cheerios yearbook photo, and Will and Terri’s relationship is shaken to its core in the all-new “Mattress” episode of Glee airing Wednesday, Dec. 2 (9:00-10:00 Pm Et/Pt) on Fox. Only two more episodes of Glee before it goes on the longest hiatus ever – at least, it'll feel that way - until April 13th (at which point it will go head-to-head with Lost's final season on Tuesday at 9:00 p.m.). We've already posted photos for the December 2nd episode, but now Fox has released photos and a short synopsis for the December 9th episode, where the team must compete in Sectionals. It looks like we might be left with a cliffhanger.
It looks like Eve is back as a guest star again as the rival choir director.

The December 2nd episode of Glee revolves around the annual yearbook, but it fails to mention that the Glee club will be appearing in a commercial for a local mattress store, hence the name of the episode. Last week on Glee, Finn and Rachel kissed, Terri isn't pregnant with Will's baby but he doesn't know it yet, and Quinn and two other Cheerios joined Glee club to help Sue bring them down.
This week, Quinn convinces Rachel to speak to Mr. Scheuster about his lackluster choreography skills. They recommend that he go to Dakota Stanley to help with the dancing. In order to make up for his lowered self esteem, Will starts a boy band called The Acafellas with Ken Tanaka, the thumb-less shop teacher Henri and the stock boy Howard who works with Terri.
Glee club, lost without Mr. Scheuster, decide to hire Dakota Stanley themselves. Finn tries to tell the group that Will just doesn't have the confidence to lead the group at the moment but no one listens. Rachel aligns herself with the idea because she's still upset that her and Finn kissed and he's done nothing about it.

Fox has released the synopsis and promo photos for episode 1.05 of Glee "The Rhodes Not Taken". Kristen Chenoweth joins the cast for the episode (and, wow, she's short compared to the other guys in the cast). There's also bowling….and possibly the suggestive use of a bowling ball.
