I never understood why Jurassic Park was the only dinosaur-related franchise to outlive the dino hysteria of the 90s. Don’t get me wrong, Spielberg’s classic is clearly the best movie to come out of that trend, but that doesn’t change the fact that dinosaurs as a concept are in the public domain and should have been featured in countless other films.
Fortunately for fans of all things prehistoric, Scott Beck and Bryan Woods’s upcoming 65 (March 10th) promises a return to the Jurassic-Park-less thrills of completely original dinosaur movies. And with that in mind, we’ve come up with this list highlighting six of the best non-jp dinosaur thrillers for all your prehistoric media needs!
As usual, this list is purely based on personal opinion, but since this is Bloody Disgusting, we’ll be limiting entries to monster movies and thrillers. That means no Super Mario Bros...

As soon as I read the title The Velocipastor I knew I had to see it. I didn’t need to see a trailer, I didn’t need to read what the story was, that title had already sold me. Despite this, I did keep my expectations low.
I needn’t have worried though because The Velocipastor knows exactly what type of movie it is and relishes in it. The story itself is simple, after he witnesses his parents die a priest discovers that he has the power to turn into a dinosaur. At first he is horrified but he then believes he can use it for ‘good’ and fight criminals and the worst people of the world.

There are perhaps no more prolific actresses out there than horror icon Debbie Rochon. She has a list of credits to her name over 230 movies long and it's always growing. But she recently completed filming her directorial debut, Model Hunger, and can't wait to unleash it on the world.
Model Hunger stars Lynn Lowry, Tiffany Shepis, Carmine Capobianco, Brian Fortune, Michael Thurber, Aurelio Voltaire, Suzi Lorraine, Babette Bombshell, Geri Horn and Jayne Caswell. Rochon also enlisted the talents of well-known composer Henry Manfredini (who did extensive work on the Friday the 13th series) and a crew that she described as the best of the best for creating Model Hunger.
With such an extensive acting career, one wonders why Rochon never directed in the past as she's been in the entertainment business for most of her adult life. What finally triggered that desire to get her working on the other side of the camera?...

Word on a new project from MonsterPants, the New York-based, do-it-yourself non-studio behind such films as Satan Hates You and Hypothermia, landed in our inbox this week; and it's so unique and intriguing we just had to share!

To celebrate their 5th anniversary, the Arizona Underground Film Festival has expanded to a whopping nine nights on Sept. 21-29 for a cinematic event the likes of Tucson has never seen before!
The shenanigans kick off with the opening night film The Legend of Kaspar Hauser, an experimental Italian feature directed by Davide Manuli and starring Vincent Gallo as the hero and the villain to a strange young boy, then end with the closing night film Jason M. Solomon’s nostalgic documentary 7 Years Underground: A 60′s Tale, which profiles the legendary Cafe Au Go Go in NYC that hosted such up-and-coming acts such as Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, George Carlin, Lily Tomlin and more.
In between those two films lies a twisted carnage of movie mayhem, including Spencer Parsons’ demented homage to ’70s mystery cartoons Saturday Morning Massacre; Michael Melamedoff exploitative semi-doc The Exhibitionists; Stephen Amis’ Australian WWII sci-fi...

Gothic renaissance man Voltaire added to his international fame over a decade ago with the launch of the animated fantasy-horror webseries Chi-Chian, commissioned by the Sci Fi Channel (in their pre-SyFy days) and based on the artist's six-chapter comic book series. That 14-episode run ended in 2000, but the macabre jack-of-all-trades has recently revived the acclaimed series, which he's been hosting on his own official site. Hit the jump to read more about the return of Chi-Chian, and find out where you can check out this week's installment... The Chi-Chian character first appeared onscreen in stop-motion form as an animated Sci Fi Channel ID, then later became a cult celebrity during the flash-animated series'...

Musician-writer-animator-artist Voltaire is a man who wears many metaphorical hats - in addition to the rakish chapeau seen above. He cut his teeth as an animator, creating creepy IDs for networks like MTV and The Sci-Fi Channel in the '90s, and has continued to produce award-winning animated shorts. At the same time, he built a national following for his geek-friendly gypsy cabaret music. His songs have been in video games and on the Cartoon Network. He is also a writer (What Is Goth?) and comic book creator (Chi-Chian, Deady the Evil Teddy). Recently, FEARnet's Audrey Cleo sat with Voltaire to talk music, animation and Goth culture. Check out our two-part video interview after the jump. We ask...

One of the spectacular aspects of a movie that is labeled sci-fi even though we only really glimpse the science of the fiction at the very beginning and then near the end which, really, is the crowning achievement of this little film that could, is that this movie exists at all. For the fifth year in a row, October gets a little creepier and scarier when the Spooky Movie Film Festival rolls into the Washington, D.C. area on Oct. 21-25 for six terrifying nights of of feature films and shorts.
Every year, Spooky Movie redefines the very definition of “horror” by presenting an absolutely unique selection films from all over the world. This year the bloody offerings range from backwoods horror comedies to documentaries to Norwegian and British zombie flicks to Australian monster movies and more.
Most exciting, however, is the return of the father of the splatter movie himself: Herschell Gordon Lewis, who will be screening his latest gore extravaganza, the diabolical The Uh-Oh Show!. This is Lewis’ first gross-out flick in seven years and is an unholy combination of blood, social satire and fairy tales. Bad Lit’s seen it and thinks it’s a real hoot and a holler.

Tucson and Phoenix: Prepare to be rocked, shocked and defiled. Blasting its way into its third — and biggest — year on Sept. 18-25, the Arizona Underground Film Festival is a cacophonous concoction of angry transsexuals, bumbling hit men, slacker superheroes, living dolls, aliens, dead hookers, adventure-seeking blondes and other crazies.

The 4th annual Sydney Underground Film Festival, which runs for three days on Sept. 9-11, will screen about 10 features from all over the world and a veritable ton of short films from even further out there.

Stop-motion animation has been around since the very beginning of film and is still around today. The art of manipulating rubber puppets and bringing them to life by posing them one frame at a time on film has seen something of a renaissance in recent history with the release of such films as Coraline, The Fantastic Mr. Fox and A Town Called Panic. Unlike it's shiny and new cousin, computer animation, stop-motion has always had a home-made and somewhat surreal quality to it. Perhaps it is for that reason that it is often the technique of choice for filmmakers like Tim Burton and Henry Selick, looking to create a strange and spooky world (Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, James and the Giant Peach).

Singer and music producer Jeymes Samuel is preparing to direct a film adaptation of “Buskers”—a graphic novel he co-wrote with Sean Michael Wilson and artist Michiru Morikawa.
Kevin Spacey, Damon Albarn, Ian Brown and Mos Def are signed to star in the “Buskers” movie, Samuel told HeyUGuys, with the film expected to begin shooting in December. “Inglourious Basterds” producer Pilar Savone is also onboard and the London-based musical collective The BulliTTs will provide the soundtrack.
Released earlier this year by Insomnia Publications, the graphic novel follows a man who loses his high paying job as a banker and is forced to reevaluate his life as he falls into the underbelly of London’s busker community. "Buskers" are entertainers who perform in public for tips.
Samuel—who is perhaps best known for his single “When It Rains”—said the female lead has not yet been cast. The official “Buskers” website is already online.

Goth-friendly comic book series “Chi-Chian,” created by the multitalented artist/musician Voltaire—could be coming to the big screen courtesy of Framelight.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Framelight has picked up the option on "Chi-Chian" with an eye towards developing it into a feature film.
Originally published by Sirius as a six issue miniseries, “Chi-Chian” is a dystopian cyber-punk thriller that takes place in the far future where New York has been annexed by Japan and mammoth sentient worms serve as mass transit trains.
The story follows a young woman named Chi-Chian who must fight samurais, robots and zombies in order to protect her loved ones.
“Chi-Chian” has also been adapted into a series of 14 flash animated shorts for Syfy’s official website, as well as a role-playing game by Dreamcatcher in 2003.
Voltaire—whose given name is Aurelio Voltaire Hernández—is not only the writer of “Chi-Chian”, but also the artist.

Premiering tonight, November 27 at midnight on IFC Free’s Video on Demand channel, Jeanie (Teenland) Finlay’s Goth Cruise follows the annual event in which 150 Goths—young and old, American and British—set sail to the last place you’d expect: the Caribbean. Focusing on 14 of the vacationers, Goth Cruise sets out to be an in-depth look at the subculture.
What Finlay finds is a remarkably diverse, welcoming, open-minded group, one that is ultimately made up of people with similar desires and jobs to the rest of the world. It’s just that sometimes, their desires involve more leather.
At 17, northeast England native Finlay was the epitome of Goth and had planned to stay that way, until, she believed, she grew out of it. Recently, she attended the wedding of an old friend who still embodied that spirit and, as Finlay describes, “was a vision in black, channeling Morticia Addams.
