The Walking Dead (Twd), an AMC series, is full of gory, outrageous moments that viewers will probably remember for years to come. There has never been a shortage of mayhem on the long-running zombie series, thanks to Robert Kirkman’s vicious characters, the walkers, and all the societal and personal drama. And Norman Reedus, who played the role of Daryl Dixon, knows a thing or two about mayhem.
Reedus’ character, a skilled tracker from the South who lives in his older brother Merle’s (Michael Rooker) shadow, was first introduced in the first season. As fans grew to love him and his go-to weapon, a crossbow, he would go on to become one of the most beloved characters on the show.

Similar to other Twd characters, Daryl has had a few moments throughout the show where some viewers have winced or turned away.

The intent of THR‘s annual list of the 50 Most Powerful Showrunners is to provide an accurate state of the TV union — a rundown of the writer-producers selling in an increasingly fraught media climate, making culturally relevant and awards-friendly shows and serving the masses at a time when consensus entertainment has all but vanished. It’s also a great opportunity to pick some brains.
Those showrunners who made the 2023 list were polled on a variety of subjects. If Suits can become a streaming hit years after ending, what other shows deserve a similar fate? What IP are they dying to get their hands on? What’s already a pressing issue for the next WGA contract negotiation with the studios? And if they found themselves with a burner social media account, what would they do with it?
Here are some of the best answers to those and more questions.

The Walking Dead spin-off The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (you can read our review Here) is set to continue with a second season that will focus on Daryl’s good friend Carol, played by Melissa McBride – and because of that, the second season has the ridiculous (and ridiculously long) title of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol. Thanks to a SAG interim agreement, the show was able to make its way through production while the actors strike was still going on… and now that the strike is over, Deadline has revealed that McBride is joined in the cast of the show by Manish Dayal.
Dayal just wrapped up a six season run on the Fox TV series The Resident. Some of his other credits include The Hundred-Foot Journey, Viceroy House, Holidate, Halt and Catch Fire, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Exclusive: The Resident alum Manish Dayal has been tapped for a major recurring role in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon — The Book of Carol, the second season of the Norman Reedus Twd spinoff.
Season 2 will revolve around Melissa McBride’s character Carol Peletier (hence The Book of Carol title), reuniting her with Reedus’ Daryl Dixon. It’s slated to premiere in 2024.
Dayal will play Ash, an engineer from Boston who moved to the family weekend house in Maine after the onset of the apocalypse. Ash lives by a strict schedule based mostly around his daily flights in a retrofitted single engine plane and mysterious visitations to his backyard greenhouse.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol was able to resume production overseas during the strike after receiving an interim agreement from SAG-AFTRA.

When it was announced that The Walking Dead was going to wrap up with its eleventh season, it was also revealed that there were going to be follow-up spin-offs, including one that would focus on the characters of Carol and Daryl, played by Melissa McBride and Norman Reedus. But then it was said that McBride had to drop out of the show when it was decided that it would be filming in Europe, as she couldn’t relocate for an extended period of time. So we got the Daryl solo spin-off, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (you can read our review Here). As it turns out, there was a plan all along to bring McBride into the show, and as Daryl Dixon wrapped up its six episode first season it was said that the second season would be called The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol. This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon finale.
When The Walking Dead‘s final season introduced zombie “variants” that could pull off physical maneuvers more sophisticated than your average walker, some fans were a little confused and perhaps even disappointed. One of those fans, it turns out, was The Walking Dead producer and resident zombie-maker-in-chief Greg Nicotero.
“The variants that were introduced in the last season of The Walking Dead didn’t make any sense,” Nicotero tells Den of Geek‘s Aaron Sagers. “Because it wasn’t earned. They were like ‘oh, if you go back to the first season, zombies use rocks and smash windows.’ It didn’t make any sense that after eleven seasons that we hadn’t seen any of that.”
As Nicotero mentions, The Walking Dead team did indeed try to explain away its walkers’ new skills by pointing to some examples...

This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon finale.
The mystery at the center of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon can be succinctly summed up as “why France?”
After 11 seasons of the flagship series taking place in the American Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Midwest, why did the first episode of spinoff open with the titular character drifting ashore on the beaches of Marseille? The first season’s fifth and penultimate episode answers that question to a certain extent. Daryl encountered some trouble in the U.S., was imprisoned on a French research vessel, and then threw himself overboard to avoid an amped up walker, eventually washing up in southern France.
While that explains the literal narrative reasons for Daryl’s French journey, it doesn’t quite capture the thematic reasons. What can The Walking Dead accomplish with the major character of Daryl Dixon in France that it...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 1 finale.] Norman Reedus‘ Daryl Dixon was on a mission in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 1 finale, and it was the same mission he’s had all season long: get back home. What he didn’t expect was to feel at home somewhere else. Leaving home and finding you belong somewhere else was the emotional core of Season 1, so said showrunner David Zabel at Twd: Daryl Dixon panel at New York Comic Con on Thursday, October 12, where the finale was screened in full for the excited audience of Twd fans and press. That theme rang true in Daryl’s final moments of the finale, which on top of scoring the historic Mont Saint-Michel as its filming location for The Nest also filmed a Daryl-walker battle on the beaches of Normandy. The setting had deep emotional meaning for Daryl. As revealed to Isabelle (Clémence Poésy...

After six episodes following a desperate and homesick Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) battling his way through France, the first season of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” ended on Sunday with a surprising twist: Daryl literally missed the boat back to America. Spoilers ahead.
According to series showrunner David Zabel, Season 1’s plan was always to end with Daryl standing on a beach, choosing to stay in France with Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi) and Isabelle (Clémence Poésy) rather than go home.
“That was really my first pitch on the story,” Zabel told TheWrap.
The executive producer explained that his series’ “central conceit” was always “in trying to get back home, what happens if you form a surrogate home in the place you’re trying to get away from?”
Zabel was careful to build to this emotional decision for Daryl. The first three episodes see Daryl slowly warming up to Laurent and Isabelle.

This Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon article contains spoilers.
Daryl Dixon always finds a way to get out of sticky situations and the season finale of his own spinoff show is no different. Not only does Daryl and his squad manage to escape the clutches of Genet and her drugged-up zombies but he manages to get both Laurent and Isabelle to the Nest in Mont-Saint-Michel (with a surprise assist from Codron).
It seems like Daryl’s job in France is done as he passes through Normandy, pays a visit to his grandpappy who died during World War II, and prepares to board a boat back to the States. That’s until Laurent shows up at the last minute, along with a horde of walkers who would love nothing more than to eat him. Now Daryl has a choice to make between staying with Laurent and Isabelle or heading home to his own family.

Throughout The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’s Season 1, we’ve seen Norman Reedus’ embattled protagonist fight both for and with Clémence Poésy’s Sister Isabelle. But is their biggest battle keeping their burgeoning feelings at bay? Do they even realize that they have feelings for one another?
“That’s a good question,” showrunner David Zabel tells TVLine with a laugh. “A deep connection has clearly formed between them over the course of the five episodes we’ve seen so far, and it continues to deepen in episode six” — aka Sunday’s finale (premiering on AMC at 9/8c).

The actress has signed on as a series regular for season two of the franchise’s latest spinoff series, Daryl Dixon, AMC announced Thursday at New York Comic-Con.

The Walking Dead reached the end of its eleven season run last year, and long before the show ended we knew the character Daryl Dixon (played by Norman Reedus) was going to be getting a spin-off. But when the Daryl spin-off was first announced, it was said to focus on the two-person team of Daryl and his friend Carol (Melissa McBride). That plan changed when it was decided that the show was going to take place in Europe, and McBride didn’t want to relocate for an extended period of time. So we’ve gotten the solo spin-off The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon… but showrunner David Zabel still has story in mind for the Carol character.

“The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” is off to the races in the ratings.
Per AMC, the premiere of the spinoff series centered on Norman Reedus’ fan favorite character is officially the biggest premiere in the history of streamer AMC+ with three weeks of streaming data available. That puts its ahead of fellow “Walking Dead” spinoff “The Walking Dead: Dead City” starring Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Maggie and Negan, which claimed the biggest premiere honor back in June. Both shows have already been renewed for second seasons.
Furthermore, “Daryl Dixon” is now on pace to become the most-viewed season of any show in the history of AMC+.
In the linear ratings, the fourth episode of “Daryl Dixon” this past Sunday hit new series highs in total viewership and the adults 25-54 demographic. In the Nielsen Live+3 ratings, the show hit 1.1 million viewers with its fourth episode. That includes 392,000 viewers in the demo.

There’s a certain image that comes to mind when you hear “‘The Walking Dead’ set in France.” It’s one filled with undead zombies tearing through Parisian streets and the Eiffel Tower framed by panic. Perhaps shockingly, that ambitious visual language is exactly what the second episode of “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” delivers.
“Any filmmaker will tell you one of the hardest things you can ever do is take over the center of a city to create chaos and mayhem,” Daniel Percival, the director of four episodes of “Daryl Dixon” including Sunday’s “Alouette,” told TheWrap. According to Percival, it took “months and months” of negotiating with Paris and city authorities to produce the opening of Episode 2.
“Alouette” opens on a flashback. The series wordlessly follows Isabelle (Clémence Poésy), documenting her life as a thieving party girl. The episode starts with Isabelle perched on the edge of a club’s balcony,...

The Walking Dead reached the end of its eleven season run last year, and the first season of the follow-up spin-off The Walking Dead: Dead City ran through its six episodes earlier this year. The next follow-up spin-off, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, is set to reach AMC and AMC+ at 9pm on Sunday, September 10th – and star Norman Reedus told Entertainment Weekly that are several elements to the show that will make it stand apart from The Walking Dead. He said, “The photography’s different, the acting style of the people I’m acting with are different, the writing is different.” He even went on to say that the zombies are different: “The walkers that we have on this show, they’re all dancers. They’re not extras, they’re dancers — so they bend and move in weird ways. It’s a combination of a horror film mixed with Cirque du Soleil.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon may not quite deliver an adrenaline shot to the heart of the stagnated Walking Dead franchise, but the new six-episode series is absolutely the television equivalent of a café au lait and a tarte tatin.
It’s comforting and familiar, with a European twist that brings an aura of classiness along with its light buzz. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is easily the best version of Walking Dead storytelling since the early seasons of the mothership. And, because it can easily be jumped into with little or no background knowledge, it offers the rare opportunity for the brand to welcome new or long-lapsed viewers.

Did we just have more time on our hands, or was it the immersive charm of long-running shows that had us coming back for more? Practically getting an entire generation of mainstream audiences hooked on the gory opium of the undead, The Walking Dead ran, and sometimes walked lackadaisically, for a whopping 11 years. In the span of almost a decade, the fandom has split up into multiple streams, with the show offering each group something to keep coming back for, even when the countless filler episodes and wobbly conflicts gave us reasons to be done for good. Despite knowing better than to root for a character in a show that’s bold and unpredictable with its ruthless kill-offs, it’s been a challenge not to hold out hope for the characters that happen to be the unfaltering backbone of The Walking Dead. The unhinged redneck who stood out the most...

Every time The Walking Dead launches a new spinoff, I approach it the same way: with cautious optimism. And more often than not, it lets me down. So you can imagine my delight to discover that the series’ fifth offshoot, Daryl Dixon — premiering on AMC Sunday, Sept. 10, at 9/8c — is, as the French would say, très bien. Pourquoi?

For better or worse, “The Walking Dead” TV world continues to grow. The latest spin-off series aiming to keep the undead dream alive is “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” premiering Sunday, Sept. 10, on AMC and AMC+. The show follows Norman Reedus’ Daryl on a solo trek across the Atlantic Ocean to France. Tightly packed in a polished and engaging six episodes, it seems that Scott Gimple’s universe has finally delivered a follow-up worth a pound of flesh.
“Daryl Dixon,” which was created by seasoned TV producer David Zabel, doesn’t spend much time rehashing old plot points. Instead, Daryl – and the audience – is dropped into the proverbial deep end in unfamiliar territory and expected to swim from there.
It doesn’t take long for Daryl to find himself in trouble – and thanks to a rogue nun named Isabelle (Clémence Poésy), he eventually aligns with a new team of do-gooders.

Exclusive: The Walking Dead spinoffs Daryl Dixon and The Ones Who Live and Interview with a Vampire are set to resume production after AMC Networks struck agreements with SAG-AFTRA.
The three shows are part of interim agreements with the Breaking Bad broadcaster that will allow filming to resume on the three high-profile series.
It’s understood that these agreements are specific to these three shows, rather than a blanket agreement between the company and the guild. AMC Networks, which produces the shows via AMC Studios, confirmed the waivers to Deadline, but didn’t comment further. AMC Networks is a member of the AMPTP but is not among the studios involved in the negotiations.
They mark the most significant television properties to strike such an agreement since the actors walked out. Other series on the interim agreement list include faith series The Chosen, Apple’s Tehran, which was handed an agreement due to its international nature,...

We are fast approaching the premiere of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon on AMC.
The latest chapter of Daryl's story begins Sunday, September 10 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt on AMC and AMC+.
The previous footage has showcased Norman Reedus' weatherbeaten character as he navigates a new sandbox.
Now, AMC has dropped the key art for the forthcoming spinoff, and it's as picturesque as you'd expect from a show set in France.
Reedus is front and center in a post-apocalyptic wasteland with the Eiffel Tower in the background for good measure.
Truthfully, the color tone reminds me of Fear the Walking Dead Season 7, which put radiation at the center of the storytelling.
Hopefully, Twd: Daryl Dixon is a cut above that.

The “Harry Potter” actress plays Isabelle, whom she describes as a nun on a “specific kind of mission.”
“She’s part of a resistance network called the Union of Hope, bringing in people from lots of different faiths,” Poésy explains in a behind the scenes clip posted to Twitter. “And they’re trying to regain some kind of faith in the possibility that humanity will get out of this test that they’re believing it’s enduring.”

AMC has been teasing us with snippets of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon for months.
On Friday, fans of the franchise got their biggest glimpse yet of the Paris-set spinoff during San Diego Comic-Con.
Because the cast and crew were unable to make the event due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, the cable network gave fans the official trailer for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 1.
While there have been many complaints about how Daryl (Norman Reedus) managed to make it to France after the conclusion of The Walking Dead Season 11, the trailer does deliver plenty of things the franchise has never seen.
The Walking Dead: Dead City has been great because it took us to a new location with a scaled-back cast.
With Daryl Dixon, it seems we're getting a show bigger in scope than anyone could have imagined.
The official trailer introduces us to a weatherbeaten Daryl...

The two-minute trailer shows Darryl walking through a ruined French countryside before he finds safety in what appears to be a repurposed nunnery.
