Eminem opened up about the way his struggle with drug addiction was a constant, if unseen, presence throughout much of his early career in a new as-told-to in Xxl.
In the piece, Em explained that drugs really only became a part of his life after the release of his 1999 album, The Slim Shady LP. He and his friends would make regular trips from Los Angeles to Tijuana, Mexico to buy pills like Vicodin, and the rapper recalled one instance where customs officers threw one guy “on the ground and start...

For nine years, BTS have never stopped running. It began in 2013, when the South Korean septet, repped by a small, virtually unknown label, burst onto the scene with the brazen and critical “No More Dream,” and were constantly told they didn’t have what it takes to succeed. Still, they kept running — to their first Korean Number One, to the top of the Billboard charts, and eventually to the world stage. Proof, the group’s latest release, is its most ambitious yet, but not necessarily in the way many would expect.

Jack Viertel, whose 34 years with Broadway’s Jujamcyn Theaters included stints as both the Creative Director and, more recently, Senior Vice President, announced his retirement today, effective as of the end of 2021.
In a statement, Viertel said, in part, “as the song says, the days grow short when you reach September, although I feel like I’m really only in mid-August. Still, it was time to move along, with gratitude for everything Jujamcyn has given me.” Viertel said he is working on a new book and will continue to serve as a freelance creative consultant on other projects.
See his full statement below.
Viertel joined Jujamcyn in 1987, launching his career there that would include involvement in numerous award-winning and acclaimed productions, including such era-defining stagings as Into The Woods, M. Updated: In a newly-released letter, a variety of past and present female staffers of “Saturday Night Live” have offered their solidarity for former cast member and current U.S. senator Al Franken, recently accused of groping two women, once in 2010 and once in 2006. The letter is titled “SNL Women Offer Solidarity in Support of Al Franken” and, per the Boston Globe, offers a full list of signees, which include writers, performers, and producers, amongst others associated with the NBC sketch comedy series. Of those listed, only three are current crew members.

The Trump administration has been compared to at least a million things so far. We’ve made our characterizations and comparisons of this staff since day one. Kellyanne Conway got the Fatal Attraction treatment on SNL. Sean Spicer got the Melissa McCarthy treatment on SNL. Steven Bannon has been mocked by Rosie O’Donnell. Donald Trump has been mocked by everyone imaginable but my personal favorite has got to be Sesame Street. But today’s comparison may very well be the best of the bunch. According to Av Club Back when it first aired in 2003, Arrested Development’s Bluth family was pretty clearly

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Defiance, Game of Thrones, Finding Carter and Mistresses!
1 | Are Defiance’s Omec giving any Star Trek fans out there an Andorians vibe? Also, did not one producer question the optics of killing off in one fell swoop the show’s minority family in the same episode you bring on two black actors as ruthless, purple-skinned villains?
2 | Is it too big of a coincidence that Orphan Black‘s Castor and Leda original is Mrs.

Crime Wave
Written and directed by John Paizs
1985, Canada
A married couple attempt to rob a house while making a door-to-door sales call: one pitches the customer, the other fakes a trip to the washroom and searches for valuables. When their cover is blown, the husband bludgeons the man to death with a glass candy dish, and sticks a broom in the woman’s wheelchair spokes before ramming Milk-Bones down her throat. What villains! And all in the name of becoming the top sales team in the nation—that is until they’re gunned down by police at the National Sales Awards ceremony: a pitch-perfect ending to their violent crime wave.
The above is one of many zany and creative ideas Steven Penny (played by writer, director, producer, John Paizs) has for a color crime film he wants to make. The only problem is that he has no middle.

This Week in TV News is a compliment to the Week in Review feature, which will now be focused on film news.
AMC has guaranteed two seasons to the prequel companion series of The Walking Dead, as per THR. The announcement was made earlier this week, and comes as somewhat unsurprising news. The Walking Dead continues to be one of the channel’s highest rated shows, with its popularity showing no signs of waning as the show’s fifth season rolls along. In addition, AMC has found similar commercial and critical success with Better Call Saul, its new series that is itself a spinoff of Breaking Bad.
There’s no set title for the series as of yet, and working titles have included Fear The Walking Dead and Cobalt. The first season, much like the show that spawned this spinoff, will consist of six episodes, with creator Robert Kirkman working...

Ever since they wrote Good Will Hunting 18 years ago, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have been one of Hollywood's most well-known bromances. But no bromance is complete without some healthy competition, which is why we've gone back through the years since their first Oscar win and looked at their careers. With Samantha Highfill representing Matt Damon in one corner, and Joshua Rivera representing Ben Affleck in the other, here's how the fight breaks down: 1997 Damon: Good Will Hunting Sure, both Damon and Affleck won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay, but only one of them was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor,...

Newt Gingrich calls gays fascists, Benedict Cumberbatch is Richard III, segregation returns to the South
Debbie Harry has confirmed that she likes men and women. The blond legend says that while most of her lasting relationships have been with men, the rumors of her liking women is true. “Yeah. Let’s say women are more sensual.”
Vitaly Milonov, who wrote St. Petersburg’s original gay propaganda law, is now calling for the formation of a “morality police” that would regulate homosexuality, gambling and other violations of “traditional values.” Which sounds a lot like what they have in nations like Saudi Arabia.
Captain American: The Winter Soldier broke all April box office records, pulling in $96.2 million. Counting the overseas haul for two weeks, the film has grossed $303 million since opening.

Disney fans, this was a Saturday Night Live for you.
Going into the episode, it seemed likely there would be at least one musical sketch moment. After all, Anna Kendrick was a Tony nominee when she was just a teenager, starred in the cult classic Camp, and is perhaps best known as the lead in the a cappella comedy Pitch Perfect, which somehow spawned a huge radio hit for the actress with her cover of “Cups.” (Don’t worry. That was – cleverly – spoofed last night as well.)

Saturday Night Live’s “newest addition” isn’t actually a new addition at all. Colin Jost, named today as Seth Meyers’ imminent Weekend Update successor, has been writing for the sketch show since 2005 (shortly after he graduated from Harvard; underachiever) and was named its co-head writer in 2012. True, he’s only appeared on the show a handful of times — in just two sketches, according to IMDb — but that doesn’t mean Jost lacks performing experience: He’s also a seasoned standup comedian who has appeared on stages around the country and on programs including Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and...

Funniest Schtick: Watching Supernatural’s Dean play fetch, bark at the mailman and scratch himself was downright hysterical, even if his Dr. Doolittle routine got real old real fast.
Tastiest Art Display: In exposing General Hospital’s Franco as a fraud, Heather revealed that the painting around his new collection had been built was a portrait of a Blt!
Biggest Contradiction: Despite their being a blindside every week, the latest cycle of Survivor is relatively boring thanks to the lackluster folks occupying the island.
Quickest Ascension: Scandal’s James spent a day in the White House pool, landed an interview with the First Lady and this week, was put on the short list of top-journalists with Diane Sawyer!
Oddest Swooning: Top Chef’s Stephanie was so taken with guest judge John Besh that she acted as if winning the quick fire challenge would land her a date with the guy!

Greetings from the apocalypse! Rock of Ages didn't exactly rock it out this weekend. Proof that people would rather see Tom Cruise running fast and blowing things up than singing with major rock band hair, the movie opened with a dismal $15 million for a weak third place. Andy Samberg's decision to leave Saturday Night Live didn't seem to help drum up any attention for his and Adam Sandler's new raunch-com That's My Boy. The movie's limp fifth place opening with of just $13 million is one of the worst for a Sandler comedy and not the best kick off for Samberg's new post-SNL career. Meanwhile Madagascar 3 added $35 million this weekend, keeping it in the number one spot for a second weekend in a row and pushing it into triple digits for a to-date total of $120 million. Prometheus held on to second place, but dropped over 60% to just $20 million. Moonrise Kingdom doubled...

Usually when "Saturday Night Live" parodies a film, you can pretty much bet the farm that there will be a heavy dose of snark involved. Hey, they're in the business of making you laugh, not making friends. So it's just another tribute to the power of Oscar frontrunner "The Artist" that even "SNL" has to give in to its infectious goodwill.
Proof? Last night's whimsical silent dance-off featuring "The Artist" star Jean Dujardin himself.
And that wasn't the only bit of high-octane Hollywood fun last night, as Nic Cage took time out from his busy "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" media tour to drop by the Weekend Update desk for a little tete-a-tete with himself, "Adaptation" style.

Speaking Of Wisteria Lane… : Why the heck, you ask, are we still watching this increasingly lifeless show as it limps toward the grave? Completion issues.

Saturday Night Live‘s 2011 Halloween episode was the equivalent of that dude who shows up at a costume party in his street clothes and announces he’s dressed as himself. Whether there’s a lack of effort or merely a misguided sense of what’s hilarious, it’s just not funny.
Host Anna Faris, meanwhile, was stuck in poor Charlie Brown mode, holding out her trick-or-treat bag looking for a decent skit, but getting rock after rock after rock. Here are my picks for best (barely) and worst (a deep and contentious field) skits:
Best: Lord Wyndemere

We’re a few weeks into the new season and the greatness just keeps on coming. No, I’m not talking about me, but I’m flattered.
I’m talking about TV, silly. And judging by the volume of your tweets and e-mails, you’re enjoying it as much as I am.
Special thanks to everyone who has been sending me tweets and e-mailing questions as you tune into new episodes of your favorite shows. They keep me entertained when I’m bored and give me something to read when I’m trying to ignore someone on the elevator. Keep it up!

Most Welcome Return: The Vampire Diaries, whose writers not only continue to amaze us with their seemingly never-ending array of methods in which to extract blood from an ever-expanding cast of beautiful people, but surprise us with jaw-dropping twists following some surprisingly unexpected vampire-werewolf-hookup-hawtness.
Understatement Of The Week: Upon finding out in front of a studio audience that his former fiancé — whom he’d been hoping to win back — had gotten engaged to another man, Bachelor Pad’s Michael uttered, “I’m sorry, that’s super awkward.” He then added, “Really? The schedule is a little crazy, as usual, but makes for some interesting decisions. I've already broken down each network and their shows, but now let's look at how the full schedule shapes up.

Mike Myers is a walking contradiction. On one hand, he’s a huge star—one of the biggest comedy has. And yet the guy is forgotten about the second he’s not on your TV or movie screen. Proof is his relationship with Kelly Tisdale, who runs the cafe Teany with her ex-boyfriend Moby. Myers and Tisdale first hooked up in 2006 after his divorce from Robin Ruzan, with Tisdale telling the National Enquirer, “We’re actually surprised you guys didn’t find out about us sooner.” Well, the gossip hounds haven’t tightened their watch: Page Six confirmed that Myers and Tisdale got married five months ago…and no one noticed! We’d check if he was wearing a ring during his recent SNL appearance, but…eh.

"Difficult," Eminem's tribute to his fallen friend and D12 member Proof, leaked online in December.
The track has now been rechristened "Dudey" and features former Shady Records artist Obie Trice on the chorus.
The revamped track arrived online on Friday (February 11) and still features Em's somber rhymes. A hook has been added, however, on which Trice helps Eminem eulogize the Detroit rapper, born DeShaun Holton, who was murdered in 2006. Trice's words add grace to Em's sobering rhymes.
"I drop a tear in the rhyme, the day you find it is the day I stop missing DeShaun," Obie chimes in on the chorus. "Holton, it was written, it was woven for a soldier to leave so suddenly, got me wide open/ I could die, take my soul,...

Eminem has always maintained that the death of his best friend and D12 member Proof was one of the most devastating moments of his life, and four years after his passing, Eminem is still upholding the late Mc's legacy in his music.
On Thursday (December 30), the Em track "Difficult" surfaced on the Web, in which the Detroit lyricist devotes several bars to his relationship with his fallen homey -- who was gunned down in a Motor City nightclub in 2006 -- and how the memory of his trusted friend still lingers.
"Doody, most of my life it's just been me and you there/ I continuously stare at pictures of you/ I never got to say 'I love you' as much as I wanted to, but I do/ Yeah, I say it now when you...

Lil Wayne and Eminem are set to appear as musical guests on "Saturday Night Live" this weekend. Em and Wayne collaborated earlier this year on singles — Em on Wayne's "Drop the World" and Wayne on Em's "No Love" — and there's a possibility they'll perform both songs on the show.
But this is far from either artist's first tour of duty at Studio 8H. Here, we take a quick look back at the rappers' past 'SNL' glory.
September 2008: Lil Wayne appeared one time, back in '08, in an episode hosted by Olympian Michael Phelps. At the time, his album Tha Carter III was one of the year's biggest sellers. Backed by the 'SNL' band...

We start the Top 7. You finish the Top 10.
We here at The Scorecard Review love every color in the rainbow, especially when those colors are in a movie title. With Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren starring in Red (yes, the title is All Caps), which comes out October 15, it’s the perfect time to release Tsr’s Top 7 Movies with a Color in the Title. This is the first “color” film for Willis. Sure, he came close with Color of Night. But color isn’t a color people, so it doesn’t count. Unfortunately, neither does The Color of Money. I was never seduced by Juliette Binoche and the Three Colors trilogy (Blue, White, Red). I think we can all agree Eddie Murphy had an amazing decade in the 80s, but that doesn’t mean Golden Child earned a place on this list. Even Tom Hanks...

I’ve been saying for years that James Franco is super pretty, and now: Proof! Here he is in his drag finest, on the cover of the second issue of Candy magazine, “the first transversal style magazine.” The issue won’t be out until Oct. 24, and there are only 1,000 copies, so Francophiles, get your eBay fingers ready.
Does he look like Anjelica Huston to you, too, PopWatchers? Or are you getting sort of a draggy Blake Lively vibe?

Proof that Dane Cook and Christian Slater are indeed starring in "Guns, Girls & Gambling" found its way to Twitter-Wood today. Cook posted a pic into the mix, which also included some "Harold and Kumar" updates from Jon Hurwitz, James Gunn discussing Ellen Page's character in "Super" and a suggestion for Mel Gibson from Aziz Ansari.
Elsewhere, while the world was watching to see if Bp's oil leak solution was working, Horatio Sanz announced another less family-friendly problem that's emerged. You can find out what that was after the jump alongside Wes Craven's warning to unwanted photographers.
I'm @brianwarmoth, and everything below constitutes Twitter-Wood for July 16, 2010.

@jonhurwitz That's enough with the Harold & Kumar 3 set updates for now.

Rapper said he couldn't get tribute right before recording song from Recovery LP.

Eminem and Proof in 1999

Eminem tried, and in his eyes failed, to pay tribute to his late friend and D12 partner Proof in the past. Though the subject of Proof's death in 2006 weighed heavily on his mind, Em couldn't quite figure out how to put it into words.
But on the "Road to Recovery" special on Sirius' Shade 45 channel last week, the rapper explained that on "You're Never Over," from his new Recovery album, he finally put the right bars together. Produced by Just Blaze, the song grinds along on fuzzed-out guitars and a spare beat as Em rhymes, "The days are cold livin' without you/ The nights are long, I'm growing older/ I miss the days of old, thinkin' about you/ You may be gone, but you're never over ... If Proof could see me now,...

Now that ABC, NBC, Fox, CBS, and The CW have all put their cards on the table, the Fall 2010 TV schedule is locked down.
Some big changes are coming -- particularly at NBC, where Jay Leno freed up five hours of primetime realty by moving back into his "Tonight Show" seat. With 13 new pickups (eight for fall and five more for midseason), NBC hopes to recover from a year full of media scrutiny and audience criticism.
In a surprising move, CBS made the decision to move their most-watched comedy, "The Big Bang Theory," to 8 p.m. Thursdays, challenging NBC's Thursday night comedy block. Following that at 8:30 p.m. is the first ever television show whose title can not be said on air, the hotly anticipated Twitter-based "$#*! My Dad Says" with William Shatner.

The upfronts are done, the networks' schedules for fall are set (for the moment, anyway) and the marketing campaigns are starting. So you know what? It's time to start looking ahead to what the fall might bring.
Now, we haven't seen more than a few minutes of any of the two dozen new series that will be hitting the air come fall, so we're not going to be handicapping their individual chances just yet. But in looking at the schedule as it's currently composed, there could be several interesting ratings clashes shaping up when the 2010-11 season begins. Here are a few of them.

Sure, I think There Will Be Blood, Let The Right One In, Pan’s Labyrinth, Requiem For A Dream, Synecdoche, New York (etc.) are probably some of the best films of the decade as far as craft, performances, and technique goes, but they might not make the list (you have to read further to find out.) At long last, the wild rumpus can start now that Spike Jonze's "Where The Wild Things Are" is hitting movie theaters this weekend. Adapted from the beloved Maurice Sendak children's novel, "Wild Things" focuses on young Max, an imaginative boy that travels to a far land filled with menacing looking monsters—but at their core, these creatures are a lot friendlier than their gruff exteriors would have you believe.
In comic books, there is no shortage of similar characters that are ugly on the outside but beautiful on the inside—or, at the very least, characters that are misunderstood simply because of their appearance.
As a testament to this, here's a list of five of the most misinterpreted monsters in the comic book world.
