A couple months ago, we heard that Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of the slasher sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer by giving the film a 4K release, just like they did for its predecessor I Know What You Did Last Summer last year. Now we’ve learned that the unpopular trilogy capper I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (watch it Here) will also be getting a new release on the same day I Still Know reaches 4K (September 26th) – but this will be a Blu-ray release instead of 4K.
Directed by Sylvain White (who replaced Damon Santostefano two weeks before filming began) from a screenplay written by Michael D. Weiss, I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer is about a group of small town teens who accidentally kill a fellow friend in a 4th of July prank.

When we talk about the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise, we often only talk about the original 1990s slasher and its sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. Both films have been upgraded to 4K Ultra HD, but they’re not the only two films in the saga.
Direct-to-video installment I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer was released in 2006, and Sony is giving the sequel its Blu-ray debut on September 26, 2023.
Special Features include…

Way back in 2005, it was announced that Paul W.S. Anderson – following the success of his video game adaptations Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil – had signed on to direct a film adaptation of the Castlevania video game franchise. That project ended up being stuck in development hell, and as years passed Anderson decided to produce the film rather than direct it. At first, he passed the helm over to Sylvain White (Slender Man). Then in 2009, James Wan (Saw) signed on to direct. Wan wasn’t involved with Castlevania for a long time… but in a recent Instagram post, he revealed that he was involved long enough to contact Nicolas Cage about playing Dracula!
Wan mentioned our near miss with a Castlevania movie starring Cage as Dracula after watching Cage play Dracula in this year’s horror comedy Renfield:

Summer jobs for high schoolers are getting a lot cooler.
IndieWire has confirmed that Kane Parsons, the 17-year-old creator of “The Backrooms” YouTube series, has been tapped by A24, Chernin Entertainment, 21 Laps Entertainment, and Atomic Monster to direct a feature-length adaptation of the series. The film is being written by “Dmz” creator Roberto Patino, who will also serve as an executive producer on the project. Production will take place during Parson’s summer vacation.
“The Backrooms” became a viral phenomenon in 2022 when a YouTube user named Kane Pixels (which has been revealed to be an alias for Parsons), uploaded a nine-minute found footage video of people exploring creepy empty rooms. The video capitalized on the Internet’s fascination with liminal spaces, a.k.a. spaces that exist adjacent to our reality without being a part of it. Even The Losers get lucky sometimes. Before the Dceu was formed to compete against the ever-expanding, cash cow that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the approach at Warner Bros. was far looser. With the booming business of comic book adaptations in full swing, the studio was throwing money at several eclectic comic book titles like Watchmen and Jonah Hex, trying to stay competitive and seemingly more adult than their rivals. Hence before leaving to create his own superhero project, Hancock, writer-director Peter Berg started penning an adaptation of DC/Vertigo’s The Losers, bringing in French director Sylvain White to helm the picture.
Produced by Joel Silver, The Losers centered on a team of elite, black-ops Special Forces operatives betrayed by their handler. Director White connected with the material immediately.
“What appealed to me about The Losers was that it wasn’t the typical superhero-with-superpowers thing,” White told MTV. “It...

Chris Evans might have shot to worldwide fame as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Captain America, and Steve Rogers will more than likely always be viewed as the defining role of his career no matter what he goes on to accomplish now that his time in the world’s biggest and most popular franchise is over, but the 39 year-old has starred in his fair share of comic book adaptations that don’t require him to throw on the star-spangled spandex.
As well as featuring as the Human Torch in Tim Story’s two Fantastic Four movies, Evans also voiced fan favorite character Casey Jones in the forgotten 2007 animation Tmnt, appeared in a supporting role in Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, took the lead in Bong Joon-ho’s Snowpiercer, and even though it wasn’t based on a comic book, he still played a superhero in Paul McGuigan’s severely overlooked thriller Push.

Today’s Top 10 most-watched movies list on Netflix is filled with a handful of interesting films, such as the new Christmas rom-com Holidate, which is currently sitting at #1. There are quite a few other seasonal pics hanging out on there, too, like Christmas to Order, Christmas Under Wraps, and My Christmas Inn. So, it’s clear that subscribers are already diving headfirst into the holidays.
Of course, it’s no secret that when Netflix added their Top 10 system earlier this year, it made it much easier for folks to keep an eye on what was popular on the service around the world. Most surprisingly, however, is just how often overlooked or forgotten films tend to pop up in the rankings and find a whole new audience.
One such pic that stands out on the Top 10 most-watched movies list today is an often forgotten Chris Evans effort that you may want to give a look.

Netflix dropped the trailer for “The Umbrella Academy” Season 2 on Wednesday, proving that Five (Aidan Gallagher) was right — as per usual — and messing with time travel to save Vanya (Ellen Page) in 2019 was a bad, bad idea.
This bad idea has landed each of the Hargreeves kids in a different point in time in the 1960s in Dallas, Texas, and at first they aren’t even aware if their siblings survived. But once they do find each other, Five informs them that they must get back to the future to stop yet another apocalypse. Great.
The trailer is set to “Here Comes The End,” an original song from Gerard Way, the My Chemical Romance frontman who wrote the “Umbrella Academy” comic book series and is a co-executive producer on the Netflix drama.

Apple's new streaming service has ordered anthology series Amazing Stories, a revival of the 1985 NBC series of the same name. Steven Spielberg will return to executive produce the series through Amblin Entertainment just like he did with the original version.
The original Amazing Stories was little-watched but greatly admired. It ran on NBC from 1985 through 1987, wracking up 12 Emmy nominations and a few wins in the process. The series told...well, amazing stories, mostly in the sci-fi genre. It featured plenty of talent onscreen and even more in the directors' chair with Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Irvin Kershner, and more all helming episodes.

Columbia University, with two wins, was the only other school with multiple winners.
“We are honored to recognize the next generation of filmmaking talent as we celebrate the 25th Annual DGA Student Film Awards,” said DGA president Thomas Schlamme. “These awards are part of our ongoing efforts to encourage inclusion in the filmmaking community, and we’re proud that a number of our past winners have found success in film and television. Red Arrow Studios International has secured a raft of deals for feature-length documentary “Slender Man: The Untold Story.” The true-crime documentary, about the case of two girls whose obsession with a fictional internet character was cited for their attempted murder of a friend, was picked up by Nine Network in Australia.
European sales have also been closed with Svt for Sweden, TV2 in Norway, Vtm in Belgium, and Rts for French-speaking Switzerland.
“Slender Man: The Untold Story” debuted in the U.S. on Hubbard Broadcasting’s Reelz network in January under the extended title “Slender Man Stabbing: The Untold Story,” resulting in a 54% increase in the network’s average viewing figures.
Produced by the Red Arrow-owned Dorsey Pictures for Reelz, it documents the 2014 case of two 12-year-old Wisconsin girls who lured a friend into local woods before stabbing her multiple times. The documentary follows the trial and includes exclusive interviews with police officers,...

Rafferty Grierson and Damian Callinan in ‘The Merger.’
Glowing reviews and copious publicity for Mark Grentell’s The Merger and Jeremy Sims’ feature documentary Wayne counted for very little as both titles had mediocre openings last weekend.
That surprised and disappointed exhibitors as the business was heavily reliant on the buoyant second weekend of Crazy Rich Asians and a feisty debut by The Nun, a spin-off of The Conjuring franchise.
McQueen, the biopic of the brilliant but tortured British fashion designer Alexander McQueen, had a middling opening. Underlining the challenges facing the ailing art-house market, You Were Never Really Here, Juliet, Naked and The Miseducation of Cameron Post bombed. Clearly each relied on festival screenings as the main revenue source.
Umbrella Entertainment launched The Merger, the warm-hearted comedy-drama about a struggling, small town football team that recruits refugees to survive, on 80 screens, generating $93,000. The total including festival screenings for the...

Based on an internet meme that led to a brutal stabbing, this doctored frightener has truly missed its moment
A Slender Man movie might well have been a commercially viable option earlier this decade, when the spectral figure created by Eric Knudsen for somethingawful.com was one of the internet’s creepier memes. That was before the near-fatal 2014 stabbing of a 12-year-old Wisconsin girl by classmates claiming to serve the fictional creation, the objections the victim’s father raised to the then-shooting project, and the cuts designed to both appease the relatives and secure a teen-baiting rating. Sony have hustled the results out into scattered late-night slots without fanfare, perhaps understandably, as there’s not much left to distribute: if you thought the bogeyman was slender, wait till you see the film.

New releases led by Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman and a duo of family animations are hoping to light up the UK box office this weekend (Aug 24-26) after last weekend was dominated by holdovers.

“Crazy Rich Asians” (Warner Bros.) scored an impressive #1 box office position, topping $25 million for the three-day weekend and a five-day total of $34 million. Strong word of mouth and huge Asian-American audience interest fueled the box office.
Its appeal to an underserved niche audience was key, but more than 60 percent of its initial audience wasn’t Asian-American. It also pulled broad female interest (about two thirds of attendees) in a romantic comedy after a recent void in the marketplace; “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” opened a month ago.
Timing helped “Crazy.” Theaters were due for a comedy geared to the strong majority female audience in domestic theaters. But overdue doesn’t begin to describe how underserved the large and burgeoning domestic Asian-American audience is for films. They mark eight percent of frequent moviegoers. In the past quarter century, American studios have released only two wide pictures with Asian casts (1993 contemporary U.

“The Meg” swims into theaters this weekend and is looking to nab the No. 1 spot at the box office with an estimated $40 million from 4,118 North American locations.
The estimate is significantly higher than earlier predictions, which had placed the film in the $20 million to $22 million frame. The Warner Bros. film took in $16.5 million on Friday and stars Jason Statham as a scientist who, along with his team, tries to stop a prehistoric 75-foot Megalodon shark from terrorizing a beach.
Jon Turtletaub directed “The Meg,” which has received mixed reviews from critics and carries a 50% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie is based on the 1997 book “Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror” by Steve Alten and was in development for over two decades.

Shark thriller “The Meg” will take a bite out of the North American box office with about $32 million in its opening weekend at 4,188 locations, early estimates showed Friday.
“The Meg,” starring Jason Statham and a 75-foot prehistoric shark, is over-performing forecasts, which had been pegged in the $20 million to $22 million range. The movie — which has been in development for two decades — generated a solid $4 million in Thursday night previews, double what “Skyscraper” took last month on its way to a $24 million opening weekend.
Paramount’s third weekend of “Mission: Impossible — Fallout” is declining about 57% to the $17 million range to finish second. Disney’s second weekend of “Christopher Robin” and the launch of Spike Lee’s “BlacKkKlansman” will be battling for third in the $11 million to $13 million range, followed by Sony’s debut of horror movie “Slender Man” with about $10 million.

It was only a matter of time before some major studio made a movie out of Slender Man, the frightening internet meme about a faceless, gaunt and betentacled specter who kidnaps children and also loves photobombs. He seems tailor-made for classic Hollywood boogeyman status, with a distinctive character design, a creepy gimmick and a pre-ordained cinematic style, which dictates he must always be looming in the background, like the killers in “The Strangers” but with a better tailor.
Sylvain White’s “Slender Man” was not worth the wait. The film takes what might be the most fascinating 21st century horror monster and does almost nothing with him. It’s slow, it’s boring, and it’s not scary. The horror in “Slender Man” could be easily replicated… for free… at home… by turning off the lights and playing atonal violin music on your laptop.

Shark thriller “The Meg” swam to an impressive $4 million on Thursday night.
Meanwhile, Sony’s horror movie “Slender Man” launched with $1 million at 2,109 sites in previews. Focus Features did not release numbers for Spike Lee’s crime drama “BlacKkKlansman.”
Warner Bros.’ “The Meg,” starring Jason Statham, has been forecast to finish in the $20 million to $22 million range at 4,118 domestic sites during its opening weekend. Before I start this review, I feel that I should go ahead and admit this right off the bat: I know very little about just what exactly “creepypastas” are, or how the mythos of Slender Man inspired the real-life tragedy involving a pair of young girls in Wisconsin who brutally stabbed their friend to satisfy the fictional character. All I can really speak to here is the film itself, directed by Sylvain White, which is what I will be focusing on. So, keeping that in mind, I will say that I ended up liking Slender Man a lot more than I thought I would, due to some solid casting and haunting visuals that do a great job bringing this Internet urban legend to life.

Eric "Victor Surge" Knudsen is the original creator of Slender Man, having conjured the iconic character nearly one decade ago in a Photoshop competition. For years, Surge offered glimpses of the Slender Man haunting humans with his imposingly tall, terrifyingly tentacled form in photos shared online. Now, Surge has brought the Slender Man back to the online realm. With a movie based on the urban legend slated to haunt Us theaters this Friday from Screen Gems, we've been provided with an exclusive look at two photos of the Slender Man ahead of the movie's release, giving readers a closer look at the enigmatic character's ominous presence over the years.
After a period of Slender Man sighting inactivity from Victor Surge, he just recently started posting a series of new photos and explains the reason why:
As a child, I was plagued by terrible sleep paralysis that made me feel like someone was always watching me.

A tasteless and inedibly undercooked serving of the internet’s stalest Creepypasta, “Slender Man” aspires to be for the YouTube era what “The Ring” was to the last gasps of the VHS generation. But while both films attempt to mine full-fleshed horror mythologies from spooky viral videos, luring their hapless characters into an unwinnable war of attrition with an evil force that lurks on the fringes of the visible world, there’s one fundamental difference that sets the two movies apart: “The Ring” is good, and “Slender Man” is terrible.
And while the awfulness of a mid-August studio movie can easily be taken for granted, “Slender Man” isn’t just bad, it’s also disappointing. As problematic as it was always going to be, the idea of a horror film based on the world’s most pervasive digital folklore was full of raw potential. The character of Slender Man has...

In “Slender Man,” the title demon is one of those spectral showbiz creeps from another dimension who’s coming to get you. He’s like Freddy Krueger, in that he targets teenagers and spirits them away the moment they let their defenses down. He’s like the force from “Ringu,” in that the trouble all starts when you watch an evil black-and-white digital file full of flickering imagery that looks like “Un Chien Andalou” crossed with a Tool video. He’s like Candy Man, in that he’s a historical ghost with a two-word name ending in “Man,” or Pennywise from “It,” in that he targets a close-knit group of friends, knocking them off one by one.
In this case, though, when you glimpse the character of Slender Man (Javier Botet) in the background of photographs or amateur videos, or even when you see him up close, he remains an oblique phantom: tall and spindly,...

The dog days of summer are upon us.
And no, not just because “Dog Days,” the canine comedy starring Finn Wolfhard, Nina Dobrev, and Vanessa Hudgens, opens on Wednesday. Unless “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” remains exceptionally strong in its third outing, it looks like a low-$20 million debut from Warner Bros.’ big-budget shark thriller “The Meg” will be enough to nab the top slot at the domestic box office.
Will “The Meg” be worth the wait? Estimates show the action feature about a prehistoric Megaladon shark is targeting between $20 million and $22 million when it opens on over 3,900 screens. That’s not a promising start for a movie that’s been in development for over two decades and now carries a hefty $150 million price tag.
We've got a new trailer for the upcoming Slender Man horror film for you to watch today. After the first trailer was released it was slammed by people for being distasteful because the legend caused two young girls to try and kill someone in real life. Other's gave the film grief for being made way too late. The legend has been around for a while and it's not as popular now as it used to be, but Screen Gems is moving forward with the release and they are obviously hoping to make some money out of it.
For those of you not familiar with the legend, the character came from a Photoshop challenge on the Something Awful forums. The challenge tasked users to take boring or dull photos and add a nightmarish element too them. The Slender Man idea came from the mind of Eric Knudsen a.k.a. "Victor Surge,...

"Those who hear the three bells toll accept his invitation." Sony's Screen Gems has debuted the second, full-length trailer for the spooky Slender Man movie, based on the internet meme/myth about a tall, creepy, "slender" man that haunts kids. The whole Slender Man idea has already worked its way into pop culture and reality, and of course they have made a horror movie about it. Slender Man stars Joey King, Julia Goldani Telles, Annalise Basso, Jaz Sinclair, Javier Botet, Kevin Chapman, and Michael Reilly Burke. This looks like it has some creepy moments, but doesn't look like anything other than just another creepy horror movie about a weird creature/spirit that follows people around. Who knows if it's actually any good or just a horror they're dumping in late summer, after being delayed from its release in May this year. Here's the second official trailer for Sylvain White's Slender Man movie,...
