Creed’s Summer of ’99 cruise boarded in Miami on Thursday (April 18th), and the reunited band didn’t waste any time delivering their first concert in 12 years. Scott Stapp and company rocked a 16-song set for the thrilled passengers.
The band — featuring original members Stapp, Mark Tremonti, Scott Phillips, Brian Marshall, along with touring guitarist Eric Friedman — opened the set appropriately with the song “Are You Ready?” They proceeded to play favorites such as “Torn,” “My Own Prison,” “Weathered,” and “Faceless Man.”

The main set ended with the one-two punch of the sing-along anthems “With Arms Wide Open” and “Higher,” after which Stapp led the crowd in a rendition of “Happy Birthday” for Tremonti, who turned 50 years old today. The band then returned for an encore of “One Last Breath” and “My Sacrifice.”

What can one do when stuck on the metaphorical Paramount Mountain other than sing with Creed?
On Wednesday, Paramount Plus shared their fever-dreamish Super Bowl commercial starring Drew Barrymore, Patrick Stewart, Miami Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa, Peppa Pig, and Arnold from Hey Arnold as they figure out how to get over a snowy mountaintop.
“If it were a football, I’d be able to reach the top,” Taogvailoa says after throwing an anchor.
“What about a football-shaped head?” suggests Stewart, looking at Arnold from Hey Arnold. “We throw the child.”

An absolutely bonkers new Super Bowl commercial from Paramount+ features a wild cast of Creed, Patrick Stewart, and Drew Barrymore, alongside cartoon characters Arnold (from Hey Arnold!) and Peppa Pig, among others.
The clip, titled “Sir Patrick Stewart Does a Hail Arnold,” also boasts Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Survivor host Jeff Probst, and Reno 911 star Thomas Lennon, as well as Dora the Explorer, Sonic the Hedgehog‘s Knuckles, and Halo‘s Master Chief.
All of the aforementioned celebs and characters are trapped at an icy canyon on Paramount Mountain. Their solution is to have Stewart throw Arnold and his “football-shaped head” to the top of the mountain with a rope so they can all climb up.
While the celebs debate whether they should “throw the child,” we hear the opening guitar strums of Creed’s “Higher,” as we see Barrymore look over to see Creed’s Scott Stapp and...

It was Thanksgiving 2001, and America was still recovering from the 9/11 terrorist attacks from the month before. The wound was still fresh; the debris was still being rummaged through, and we were sad, angry, confused and lost. Desperately looking for some hope to cling to, so as Americans often do, we turned on the good old boob tube to watch some football Americano. It was halftime, which meant it was time for musical entertainment. But how could we rock n roll at a time like this? How could we bang our heads, jump around and wave our arms in rebellious joy when the pain from this tragedy still clouded our thoughts? Was it too soon to rock? That is what many people thought, but the members of the band Creed knew that music was exactly what we needed. Surrounded by Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders, American flags, and men literally flying overhead, Creed exploded onto the red,...

They are scheduled to start their reunion tour in Green Bay, Wisconsin, before ending on September 28 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Mark Tremonti is best known as the guitarist for Alter Bridge and Creed, but he’s also proven himself to be quite the crooner.
The veteran rocker is set to release a collection of holiday and Christmas standards titled Christmas Classics New & Old on October 27th, and he’s now shared the opening track, a rendition of “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.”
Tremonti sings a graceful version of the ubiquitous holiday-season anthem alongside a jovial horn section, proving why he has become a renowned Frank Sinatra interpreter in his downtime from Alter Bridge.
Last year’s covers album, Mark Tremonti Sings Frank Sinatra, received acclaim for its faithful and accomplished renderings of Sinatra staples and even led to a series of “Tremonti Sings Sinatra” concerts, including three that are set for January 2024: January 5th; January 6th; and January 13th.

It’s summertime, but don’t tell that to Mark Tremonti. The Alter Bridge and Creed guitarist has announced his first-ever holiday album, titled Christmas Classics New & Old.
The new release sees Tremonti singing and performing nine holiday classics and one original song. For the LP, Tremonti teamed up with the same orchestra that played on his recent Frank Sinatra covers album. Christmas Classics New & Old arrives October 27th, and is now available for pre-order here.
As for some of the holiday classics, Tremonti puts his own spin on traditional songs such as “Jingle Bells,” “The First Noel,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “O Holy Night” and more. His original holiday song is called “Christmas Morning” and features piano and a marching band.

With the racial controversy overshadowing this year's Academy Awards, last night was probably the most pointedly satirical Oscars ever. (Perhaps the “only” pointedly satirical Oscars ever.) It was also a terrific show. Chris Rock, who previously hosted in 2005, dispensed with any cute musical numbers introducing the nominated movies, and he wasted no time tackling what is now known by the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite. Taking the stage after a clip compilation of the year's major movies, he said, "I counted at least 15 black people in that montage." What followed was a sharp, clever standup set that managed to: 1. Nicely tweak the issue.

With #OscarsSoWhite showing no signs of abating as a trending topic, it would be a dereliction of duty if "Saturday Night Live" didn't offer a take on the controversy. Indeed, The Not Ready For Prime Time Players didn't disappoint this weekend. Read More: Consider This: Is #OscarSoWhite A Symptom Of Movies Losing (Even More) Ground To TV? "Screen Guild Awards" offers a pretty simple premise, running down the all-white nominations for Best Actor that get increasingly absurd in overlooking the black performers of the various pictures, which include parodies of "Creed" and "Beasts Of No Nation." And the punchline is both broad and pointed. Watch below.

Saturday Night Live was clearly not holding back this week. After Tina Fey returned to give her craziest impression of Sarah Palin yet, things took an even more political turn when the show offered its take on the #OscarsSoWhite controversy. If you're not familiar, this year's list of Oscar nominees depicts a shocking lack of diversity, overlooking stunning performances like Michael B. Jordan's in Creed and Will Smith's in Concussion. Celebrities have been quick to share their thoughts, and we've explored the topic as well. Watch SNL's take on the whole thing, above.

No controversy would ever be complete without Saturday Night Live providing a pitch perfect commentary on the matter. They’ve done it for the political process, celebrity scandals, and just about every major blockbuster released in recent memory. Their latest take on American culture involves the decidedly monochromatic Oscar nominations that recently caused a storm of controversy. Check out the sketch below to see it for yourself. The sketch opens with Cecily Strong introducing all of the best performances from the last year. Each entry represents a thinly veiled version of some of the year’s best films, ranging from Creed, to Straight Outta Compton, to Beasts of No Nation. Despite the racial themes and strong performances from black actors in these fictional movies, the men nominated for their performances are all white. Some of the men nominated barely had any impact on the overall plot of ...

Somewhere along the way, the idea of a band writing something that could intentionally be classified as ‘radio rock’ became tantamount to the antichrist.
Granted some do it better than others, and the overly-poppy likes of Seether’s recent output is definitely far more opaque when it comes to wanting to fill arenas versus simply cashing in as much as possible, but Sevendust have always stayed on the right side of that divide.
More than ever on Kill the Flaw, you have a group that know this formula better than the competition. Their secret weapon has always been the multi vocal-attack of Lajon Witherspoon and Clint Lowery, throwing out soaring clean harmonies alongside more guttural-sounding passages, biting lyrical delivery and staccato sections.
Such a well-rounded and immediately appealing sensibility routinely puts off the more ‘hardcore’ metal crowd, but to have such a close-minded attitude misses out on many...

The industry might be in a rocky state right now when it comes to adequately showcasing the best talent and getting it in front of the most receptive audiences, but for hard rock and metal acts, bands like Alter Bridge forever guarantee the best rewards are for those who seek them out instead.
Over the years they’ve soared like a phoenix from the embers of Creed, emerging as a band with a devout purpose; to combine the melodies and song-structures that got the post-grunge legends to the top of the charts and stadium headline bills the world over, with a hard-hitting workmanlike attitude that ensures they’d earn every seat in every chair.
So what does it mean to be an Alter Bridge fan in 2015? Do you know your Couer D’Alene’s from your Cauterize’s? Your freeform jazz interludes from your flamenco instrumentation sections?
Maybe so,...

From big blockbusters to small independent films, here are the movies I.m dying to see this Fall. (Official synopsis provided by studios)
September 18 (Friday)
About Ray When a young woman (Elle Fanning) decides to transition from female to male, her announcement is met with both opposition and support from her mother (Naomi Watts) and her lesbian grandmother (Susan Sarandon).
Black Mass In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster James "Whitey" Bulger (Johnny Depp) to collaborate with the FBI and eliminate a common enemy: the Italian mob. Every year the movies seem to be dying. The writing is on the wall with attendance numbers and box office receipts and the Golden Age of TV. Will people still go to the movies if they can now watch high quality, HD programming from their own home?
Theater chains themselves have been reluctant to give in to Netflix and VOD, but at the risk of being made obsolete entirely, two chains are doing an experiment suggesting they may be willing to play ball. THR reported this week that Paramount, AMC Theaters, and Cineplex have struck a deal regarding two of their upcoming films, the new Paranormal Activity movie, and Scout’s Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, both October releases. Traditionally, movies are not available on VOD or digital release until three to four months after their initial run in theaters is over, which can be anywhere from a month to six weeks for genre movies.

We always knew it was going to be good – but for Mark Tremonti (lead shredder of Alter Bridge and ex-Creed co-founder) to top his phenomenal first solo album, that was would have to be something mighty special indeed.
Luckily, when you’ve got one of the best melodic minds in modern metal (try saying that ten times fast) you don’t do things by half, and from the positively furious opening riff of Radical Change, through the soaring vocals of the title track and the unabashedly epic Fall Again or Providence, Cauterize is one Hell of an album.
Genre-wise it ticks boxes left, right and centre – seriously, when things like the mid-point breakdown of Tie the Noose kick in, no volume setting on earth can do it justice – easily slotting into everything from heavy metal to hard rock, with plenty experimental song structures and everything in between...

You know when you come across a band who just have wall-to-wall phenomenal material, every fan’s going to have their own favourite choruses, vocal moments, guitar solos and more – but it’s always fun to delve in and pick some favourites; a definitive top 10 you could recommend to everyone.
For Alter Bridge it’s been one hell of a ride getting to the top, with heavy metal-loving lead guitarist Mark Tremonti slowly injecting more crushing rhythms into the band’s work as vocalist Myles Kennedy’s becomes more accustomed to playing in front of huge stadium-sized audiences fronting Slash’s newest outfit, birthing a combination whose confidence shows more and more in everything they do.
Backed by one of the tightest rhythm sections in the business in drummer Scott ‘Flip’ Philips and Brian Marshall on bass, 2013’s Fortress is their most accomplished and experimental work so far...

It’s not hard to recommend a slew of phenomenal tracks when the band you’re delving into hasn’t had too many rise to the surface of mainstream recognition, but still, chances are anyone reading this has at least head of Alter Bridge. Either as “That band who used to be Creed” (although that’s starting to fade after over a decade of association), “Slash’s singer’s band” or “Those guys that did Edge’s wrestling theme song”, Ab are a band with talents elastic enough to stretch across a great many different places, becoming all three of these things – but also much, much more.
From the teeth-rattling riffs of lead guitarist Mark Tremonti – a man who sweats enough talent-juice to release sequential grade-a material for over a decade now – to Myles Kennedy, their frontman who tickles the moon with his high notes without even breaking a sweat,...

When Creed singer Scott Stapp posted a disturbing video on his Facebook page last week, many people began to worry about his well-being. During the 15-minute video, Stapp said he was "under some kind of pretty vicious attack" with rumors circulating that he was dead or on drugs. He also said that he was broke and living in a Holiday Inn. Although he has fought alcohol abuse in the past, Stapp claimed to be "as sober as can be." The video sparked concern for Stapp's mental state, but things grew even more disturbing when he released two more rambling videos.

Alter Bridge are a band that have been gradually getting heavier and heavier over the past decade. Although first album One Day Remains had some of the remnants of more Creed-like songwriting (three quarters of the band were former members) there’s always been glimpses of where they were heading.
With lead guitarist Mark Tremonti being a man who spends many hours a day fully immersed in both guitar theory and practice – and who schooled himself in the likes of Slayer and Celtic Frost growing up – fans of hard rock and metal have seen a far more practiced-yet-furious side emerge to The Tremonster’s playing over the years.
Last year’s Fortress saw the most complex arrangements the band have composed thus far too, with a far heavier bent throughout that helped build on the motions started through each album – in particular the fantastically dark Ab III.

If there’s one band anyone with a penchant for guitar-based music needs to keep their eye on it’s Alter Bridge. With a weekend-dominating set at Download (underneath Aerosmith no less) now in the rear-view mirror, they’ve been touring new album Fortress relentlessly – or as relentlessly as you can when your frontman also helps front Slash & The Conspirators.
Such is the life that singer Myles Kennedy, guitarist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall and drummer Scott Philips lead in 2014, although it seems they couldn’t be happier. With the former currently only seeing his hometown for a few weeks a year, Tremonti recording a followup to his bone-powderingly heavy solo album, Marshall keeping busy teaching bass on tour and Flip (hopefully) working on a second Projected album, the band rarely seem to see any downtime.

As time rolls on and the mainstream rock press look to championing a new band as the forthcoming headliner for the upcoming generations, Alter Bridge have already started receiving much positive coverage – and for very good reason.
Fronted by one Myles Kennedy – a man who after schooling himself as a jazz teacher would go on rehearse with Led Zeppelin’s reunion tour and front Slash’s current outfit – they’ve gone from strength to strength with every album, so far managing to maintain rocket-powered uphill momentum with each release. That’s not to mention the band themselves are built from the ashes of Creed, as whilst Scott Stapp has gone on to have a fairly middling solo career, guitarist Mark Tremonti – who himself is an absolute powerhouse of riffs, solos and musicianship – drummer Scott ‘Flip’ Phillips and bassist Brian Marshall joined up with Kennedy...

It’s no secret that any regular reader of WhatCulture.com’s music section has come across an Alter Bridge article or two, as thanks in no small part to the phenomenally sky-high vocal talents of one Myles Kennedy and the thundering powerhouse of a guitarist that is Mark Tremonti – along with an incredibly tight rhythm section in Brian Marshall and Scott Phillips – the band have gone from strength to strength over the last few years.
Speaking of Tremonti though, the man is absolute machine on and off stage, creating a style that’s all his own by cherry-picking hugely enjoyable techniques from the likes of Kirk Hammett, Dimebag Darrell, Paul Gilbert and more, along with his own take on the instrument to really become one of the best guitarists currently working today.
From searingly fast shredding leads to slower bluesy note-progressions and screaming high notes that whip Alter Bridge fans into a frenzy,...

Whether you’ve been with the band since the beginning or are just getting into them thanks to a myriad of phenomenal albums over the past few years, Alter have been on an incredible upward curve as they grab new fans left, right and centre, all culminating thus far in a guest slot under Aerosmith at this year’s Download Festival.

Alter Bridge are fast becoming a household name due in no small part to the angelic tones of lead vocalist Myles Kennedy’s stint as Slash’s frontman.
Take three of the four guys from one of the most (unnecessarily) hated bands in history; Creed, replace that bands’ Achilles heel with Mr Kennedy, coupled with the want to break away from all that’s gone before, and you have Alter Bridge.
Whilst their first album still appeared to be leaning on some subtle Creedian tropes with the likes of Broken Wings and Down To My Last, sophomore effort Blackbird was a knock on the door of the all-time greats, instantly propelling the band into their own category of melodic hard rock.
Kennedy was now fully on-board, contributing phenomenal melodies and a twin-guitar attack that would come to define them. Blackbird offered his genuinely jaw-dropping range powered by a technical beast...

Wolfgang Van Halen, son of Eddie Van Halen and bassist for the family's namesake band, has an itchy Twitter finger and no sense of humor.
Incensed by an insult allegedly hurled his way by the fresh-faced members of One Direction, Wolfgang took to social media to air his grievance, tweeting: "Fun fact: Was just insulted by that s****y boy band #OneDirection in the lobby of our hotel this morning! Greetings Birmingham!"
Van Halen, who was in the UK to perform with Mark Tremonti, didn't expand on the insult in question. He went on to call the boys "d***heads," and continued with an all too clever slam of his own, "They must call themselves that because all of their hair points in #OneDirection."
Okay, then.

There are certain indications when a gig is going to be good : first there’s the fact that the queue to get in begins to stretch beyond the limits of the venue’s walls by 4pm in the afternoon, and then there’s the pedigree of the acts. You know what you’re getting from Slash these days – as ever – and his fruitful team-up with Alter Bridge front-man Myles Kennedy has proved bountiful for both men – as anyone who witnessed their set from this year’s Download would attest. Rounding out the night’s entertainment were local hero Ginger Wildheart and Mark Tremonti, formerly of Creed and an Alter Bridge bandmate of Kennedy, all playing in front of a packed house at Newcastle’s O2 Academy.
Ginger opened proceedings, in front of a sizable early doors crowd, confirming what everyone suspected about the charismatic singer...

Just Another F-ing Observer - Jafo #12: When Did Eddie Murphy Stop Giving A Sh**? Watching Eddie Murphy in his latest picture Tower Heist I started to wonder just who was I looking at? Don't get me wrong, Murphy provides a great number of laughs in what is basically a poorly conceived comedy. Yet, even he doesn't have his heart in the picture, giving a performance that suggests the mega star is tired and worn out. I didn't go into this film expecting the Eddie Murphy of old; it has afterall been nearly thirty years since he burst onto the silver screen and essentially changed cinema with 48 Hrs. In 1982, Murphy was a young comedian fresh off of TV's Saturday Night Live whose infectious energy stole the thunder in what was intended to be a vehicle for Nick Nolte. Murphy was not only young, but he was hungry, a fresh face...

Monday is July 4th, on which Americans celebrate their independence from good taste and in some cases, fingers (fireworks go "Boom!"). It's the one day of the year that common sense is replaced by drunken rounds of Marco Polo and dangerous and unnecessary pyrotechnics.
It's all ooh's and aah's until the Catherine Wheel breaks from its moorings and rolls down the hillside, as screaming children and inebriated fools in porkpie flag hats run for cover.
Or at least, that's what I'm always secretly praying for.
In the spirit of the holiday, we've decided to honor some of our favorite all-American patriots!
Okay, some of these guys may not actually be American, and we may be stretching the use of "patriot" a bit, but these are all guys we have no problem saluting (and they can pull off red, white, and blue).

Nostalgia. It's a powerful thing. All of us have experiences in our life that we look back on with something beyond fondness, often wishing, sometimes desperately, that we could go back and relive those moments. Numerous scientific studies have shown that the mind tends to amplify happy moments into something far larger than the actual events. So in that vein, nostalgia tends to work as a reward system for the brain. Happiness is a natural state for human beings. We want to be happy and, when we take part in experiences that make us happy, our brain loves revisiting and magnifying those times so that it can be made happy again.
Movies in particular evoke an incredible amount of nostalgia among the movie-going public. And lo, we come to one of the greatest, if not the greatest, film franchise of the 1980s - Ghostbusters. The NYC comedy about the adventures...

As soon as we thought we could predict the outcome of the Oscars, here comes another surprise! This one's brought to you by the Writers Guild of America. Picked for Best Original Screenplay was Christopher Nolan's "Inception." The director, famously dissed for not getting a Best Director Oscar nomination, may just win the Best Original Screenplay come Oscar night. Oscar front-runner, "The King's Speech" was not nominated because it didn't quality under union rules which prompted Nolan to say during his WGA acceptance award that he looked forward to a time when he could accept the award "without qualification."
That could be the beginning of a great script Mr. Nolan, go write it :happy
For adapted screenplay, I'm happy to report that Aaron Sorkin's fantastic script won! Based on "The Accidental Billionaires" by Ben Mezrich, "The Social Network" was the only film last year that I predicted to win this very category.

A Conversation With Creed's Mark Tremonti Mike Ragogna: What's up with Creed's latest tour? Mark Tremonti: It runs through September. We're trying to get a single out at the same time that we're recording right now, and hopefully, we'll finish it up in the next few weeks. That's about it going on in Creed world. Mr: You have a new single? Mt: I spent about a month before the tour putting ideas together to try to get a single on the radio, just to get some attention on the tour. But with Scott (Stapp) having a new baby, and us all being apart, it was hard to really get it recorded. So, we had to wait until we were doing rehearsals for the tour to get it started, and all we have to do now is finish up the vocals and get it out...
